Originally seen in the final TNG episode "All Good Things...," these were known as Voodieh-class. They had slight design differences from the Negh'Var-class, such as the disruptor cannon on the bow of the ship. Re-used and slightly redesigned for DS9 use as the Negh'Var.
Seems to me that the Klingons would want four engines to get the most survivability possible out of the Negh'Var - not so they can retreat and fight another day, but so they can continue the chase if one of the nacelles happen to be knocked out. Maybe the underslung smaller nacelles are not operated until they are needed.
I love the good mood the captain is in this episode! :) Great newer Klingon ship without being a kitbash. Thanks Rick Sternbach and thanks Trek Yards for sharing the great discussion and views of it with us!
Regent Worf's Negh'Var could be bigger due to the vast resources the alliance have obtained, now they control the Alpha Quadrant. But who I am to say anything lol?
I realize I’m a little late to the party here, but if there is one nitpicky thing I personally would like to see is a slight downward wing slope leading to the engines as is typical of much of the Klingon fleet. Overall a fantastic design that is worthy of the Klingon mantle.
Being a warship design, I think that is 4 nacelles, with a heavy deck/armor section between them... in a ship for war you want back ups everything.. not sure designer was thinking in that detail however.
the shift in klingon ship design comes from piece with the federation giving them the time to make larger ships that thay have needed since the enterprise C was able to make such a show of force and hold its ground alone far to long vs a klingon attack squad yesterdays enterprise influence excluded.
I read somewhere (cant remember where though:( ) that the different Klingon houses modded their ships that could explain why their seem to be so many variants like the different colors and added weapons.
+ZeroB4NG Cardassian and Ferengi ships are both Klingon hulls that are reversed and then modified to look different. It is a cost cutting measure the model department often resorts to.
It was my impression the etched panels that look bird-like IS the cloaking device since it generates a graviton field around the ship to bend the natural and ship generated radiations of space.
To the point about disruptors on the bottom I'm pretty sure the Negh'var fires the torpedoes (or disruptors, they do look more like torpedoes.) from that area in the previous image.
Hi Stuart, since you do all of these videos featuring information on star trek ships, I was wondering if you can help me out with what color the triangular panels called pylon vents on the refit are. Seems like everyone out there does them differently. I would like to get mine somewhat close to the filming model as I am going with the green/gray strongback colors. Thanks for any info you can share. Jim Paul How are you coming along with your refit build?
I know you guys both have very good aesthetics in terms of what you like and don’t like on these ships. It would be interesting to see you do a follow up what you might tweak. Like if you were each to tweak the ships designed by 10% each. So I had to still maintain the general look of the ship but how you would improve it
I have a good idea on were the Klingons new designs could be coming from. The Klingons have an empire. They could be learning from the years of peaceful relations with the Federation. The Klingons could be tapping into the creative energy's of the many races they allow to live within the Empire. Not much has ever been written about the member races of the empire. They are rarely talked about in any of the shows or movies. However these races are spoken of every once in a great while. This vessel could be Klingon Tech but built by a subject race. With the Cardasian war then the founders incursion most Klingons would enter full military service. It would be interesting for the Empire to get fleshed out more. Who are the non Klingon subjects of the empire. How do they effect the development of the Empires military machines.
I never got why they didn't just stack a bunch of warp cores/singularity cores in the biggest romulan/federation/klingon ships and just channel shitloads of energy into the weapons and shields to get just get a much more powerful ship abiet a lot less space inside for living/research/cargo
Well it's a pretty powerful ship but the great fail at all klingon ship types is the neck and putting the controll section in the front of it yes this one is a bit stronger but at the most of theyr ships is cut of the head and they are wasted
I don't think speed is really main thing for this ship it's a heavy battleship go in devastate your target leave speed isn't its main roll it's still fast but doesn't need to be as fast as starfleet I think anyway
Why exactly do the impulse engines need intakes? The drawing at 14 minutes shows them, you comment on them but you don't explain what they're supposed to be good for. The way impulse engines work, they're powered by fusion-generated plasma and there's nothing they need to take in in order to work. It's not like a jet engine in an atmosphere where it needs to take in oxygen to burn fuel, after all. To me, this looks like whoever made that drawing didn't think it through properly.
That's what the bussard collectors at the tips of the nacelles are for. The impulse engines are powered by fusion reactors, which in turn are fed from the ship's deuterium tank.
bleh. I'd rather die on the bridge of a beautiful D-7, a cunning Bird of Prey or an intimidating Vor'Cha than on the bridge of a Garbage Scow like this... Sorry, I meant to say it should be hauled away, AS garbage.
Listening to your trek is not good younger guy, you lack knowledge . And you're really condescending and rude towards the older guy. never the less I will stay subscribed to support trek channels and the older guy,

The 3 birds of prey seen in the rear are probably To'duj fighters seen in Star Trek online.
My favorite Klingon ship. Great show.

There is no FASA Negvar since the trek dept was ceased in the 80's. Someone may have done some fan-made FASA stats though.

Wow, I've never learned so much in one episode. Thank you!!!
Is the Negh'Var more powerful than a Romulan Warbird (D'deridex-class)?
I miss the Klingon LCARS backdrop that was used on the BoP episode. Y'all should use that on Klingon vessel episodes.
+Michael Loar We do and will again however for Mission Briefing we keep the same Lcars for all, its a show specific LCARS :D

7:18 from that angle the 3 Cardassian Hidekis totally look like Ferengi Ships, just backwards.
+ZeroB4NG Cardassian and Ferengi ships are both Klingon hulls that are reversed and then modified to look different. It is a cost cutting measure the model department often resorts to.
i was sp excited the first time i saw this and the vorcha
i always thought this was the d7 and some serious hulk level steriods
It was my impression the etched panels that look bird-like IS the cloaking device since it generates a graviton field around the ship to bend the natural and ship generated radiations of space.
Was FASA even DOING Star Trek Stuff by the time this ship came out? I did not think so.
To the point about disruptors on the bottom I'm pretty sure the Negh'var fires the torpedoes (or disruptors, they do look more like torpedoes.) from that area in the previous image.
the spikes in the Excalibur image aren't on the previous image.
I love this ship. Thanks guys!

How are you coming along with your refit build?
4:26 "What is the point of the spike?" Because it's friggin' cool
"Why are you making your communication antennae sharp?"
"Because it's friggin' cool!"
Halo Battle ship have them too

I'd love to see a show on the Ambassador class!
1 fully upgraded Klingon Negh'Var class vs 1 Imperial Star Destroyer! Which would win? I'm putting my money on the Klingons!
Jamie Olberding Klingon vs anything is a win

Glory to you and your show...
😳 (Gowron Starr)
Idk my Head canon when they divert power its from the warp core not the coils nacelles that produce the warp field

This ship is the reason Galaxy X was made.
Where is the Rick Sternbach Negh'Var episode?!
KLINGON MODERN DESIGN SEEMS TO BE BAT/DRAGON SHAPED
I would say Dragon.
Remain is more obviously bat-like opposed to the Romulans bird aesthetic.
+The Gay AnCom *Reman

Aren't those 2 front spikes on one of the pics u showed , from the alternate universe ?
Never mind ... asked b4 I saw the whole vid 😂
another good show (MAJ)
so those are the "Mega-disrupters"??
Corbon Dallas A good foil to the Enterprise's phaser lance, isn't it?
I don't think speed is really main thing for this ship it's a heavy battleship go in devastate your target leave speed isn't its main roll it's still fast but doesn't need to be as fast as starfleet I think anyway
Yes and it is stated as "maximum cruse" not an "emergency or battle speed" as seen on Federation ships.
Do an episode on Lazarus' spaceship
You should do an episode on the poster/wall of ships
4.3 million tonnes
How do you pronounce it?
nay-G var (rhymes with far)

Dhindara Vrel hydrogen collectors?

Dhindara Vrel I know how Impulse engines work damn it. I was just suggesting that they are ram scoops.
Vorcha is better;P
O.
Kabl di mok
