    Okay, you sold me on the design. The idea of being built to cruise at max warp thanks to purpose built sustainers is the kind of clever Trek tech exploitation I love. It’s a fairly straightforward extrapolation of tech we have already seen, without the condescending attitude of them using their own tech incorrectly.

      There is an NX-01A, it isn't a starfleet ship, but it is disguised as one. It is Arturis' ship from the Voyager episode "Hope and Fear," and Arturis called it the USS Dauntless, at least for the the sake of the ruse.
      The USS Horizon has elements that look similar to the USS Dauntless NX-01A.

    I really don't understand the fascination with the Multi-vectored attack mode. Taking a presumably well-armed, powerful ship with the delta-v for subspace maneuvering and power for shields and whatnot, then splitting it into smaller thus, weaker ships. Resources are divided among them including all the internal volume that is wasted on delta-v reservoirs, warp cores for each, not to mention each segment requires a command staff that assume C&C at a moment's notice. Also, if even one segment is destroyed in combat, the larger ship is that much weaker going forward if it's even able to so at all.

    • @SGUDistantHope
      @SGUDistantHope 6 лет назад +1

      Well the USS Horizon cant separate, either saucer saucer separate or multi vector :) a single ship design!

    • @Exaris79
      @Exaris79 6 лет назад

      Agreed, it's better to deploy drones like the PreFed Andorians did. I was thinking more of using the Minotaur class warp fighter/bomber as drones that can be deployed in battle. Have several of them docked to the ship's hull in hardpoints and be able to make more of them as they're supposed to be expendable. Better yet, use several automated Delta Flyer as expendable attack drones.

    • @steeltimberwolf
      @steeltimberwolf 4 года назад

      Sorry to resurrect a old comment, but I think the reasoning for a multi-vectored attack mode ship is when in a one on one battle the enemy is able to shunt power to the shield facing the enemy making it harder to breach the shields and taking longer in battle. Having a ship able to split up into several and attack from multiple vectors allows for a faster take down of the shields as energy resources are spread trying to take defend from multiple angles. We see this in the Voyager episode Message in a bottle when the Romulan controlled Prometheus is able to disable a dominion era Nebula class ship while at warp, and they did so extremely fast. It's harder for a single ship to defend against multiple targets. Plus each segment of the Prometheus was designed to either be controlled by the ships computer via attack patterns or by each segments bridge/ battle bridge.

    The front hull is more shark nosed. I like the way you integrated in a second set of warp engines there and they curve down enough that they get line of sight to comply with cannon. It is probably a tactical ship so that shark like nose makes the statement.

  • @MrPingn
    @MrPingn 6 лет назад

    First off it's very pleasing to the eye. As someone who likes the Prometheus. The would be the moment where I say this is where I feel it should progress to. The "saucer" section kinda looks like a rounded sharks tooth. Again pleasing to the eye. The side profile is pretty good too. It doesn't look clunky like with the saber. The layering effect as it goes up in levels is a nice touch I've always enjoyed. I even get a sense that the Dauntless is incorporated into the hull shapes. Just it's overall roundness, narrow areas, and drawn in under the saucer.
    Regarding the nacelles, it makes more sense once explained. I also like the captain's way of describing it. A marathon runner as opposed to a sprinter. It's a nice trade off. I like how the Delta Flyer's tip nacelles were incorporated. They feel more natural than a lot of other hull borne nacelles. The rest look well placed. The cant on the main ones even fits.
    The double hanger is a nice touch.
    For some reason I wanted to think this was smaller too. For me the windows and such simply suggested it used it's space more wisely. Thus it could be made more easily. The windows made me feel it less tactical in purpose.Though there is no reason why a design couldn't be used for multiple purposes.
    I can't wait to see more. The only thing left is... I'll take one in gun metal grey. There's extra gold pressed latinum in it if you add WWII style nose art on the tail before it curves to the shuttle bay doors. Make it of Bender saying the words "Bite my shiny metal ass!" Have him one foot resting on a Borg cube Captain Morgan style.

Buuuut I have to admit I would leave the underslung nacelles out, those nested in the main nacelles. O think they deter from the primaries and the lowermost set. Those on the other hand look like extender fuel tanks under a fighter plane, which I like. OUTSTANDING work, Cmdr.C

    Love the top 3/4 view and the saucer integrated warp nacelles. That’s how the Prometheus should have made its saucer warp capable rather than that dinky little pop up nacelles. The bottom is a little busy but you sold it the specialized function. That said, no Quantum Slipstream? Some of the shapes seem almost too specifically Dauntless inspired to be anything but a design based on Voyager’s scans of said ship. I guess they could’ve had this in the works before Voyager got home/starting communicating back and forth, and the advances in standard warp hull geometry just happen to be similar slipstream geometry. A bit coincidental since while it was plausibly Federation, the Dauntless was stated as pretty different “I’ve never seen that kind of hull geometry, it’s looks like their taking a whole new approach to starship design”. I always imagined something like that would happen when Voyager got home. The original slipstream tech was perfectly stable, Voyager just had the wrong hull geometry for it. The later modified version created to work with Voyagers hull geometry, with the Borg tech and benamite crystals, was the unstable one. Maybe it’s oversimplified but designing a ship based on the Dauntless hull geometry and that original tech would be job one for figuring out slipstream. And that’s what this read to me at first glance with that very specific Dauntless shape. Instead we got the Vesta that was supposed to be the first, which I love too but that to me should have been a later slipstream capable class. But very cool in any case, maybe I’m overestimating the similarities with Dauntless, but it really reads that at first glance.

    • @SGUDistantHope
      @SGUDistantHope 6 лет назад

      Such connections...or in universe coinsidental Dauntless connections are all worked out and will be talked about at a different time, as we didnt want to give it all away for the mission briefing.
      No she cant slipstream as for me that breaks the universe if everyone can go that fast, then the quadrent...and just space becomes much much smaller and many stories just cant be told, so since those books arent canon...and im trying to make this feel like a voyager S8 ship..i just went on a development of the canon we saw :D
      Love your paragraph here...nice to see fans can break down my thought process..just from the design....as i said...form most follow function...which means you can extrapolate function from form ;)

    I was about to comment that it should have been named "Marathon" before the Captain's last comment. It is an interesting concept. One thing that I think it making the ship feel a little smaller than it is is the size of the RCS thrusters on the saucer. The only other change I think I'd make is to remove the bussard collectors on the quarternary nacelles. This is really cool, though, and absolutely perfect for the time period.

    It's an alright looking ship. I do like the overall shape, though I was a little dubious of those primary hull nacelles when I saw them. Then I saw the other four nacelles and said to myself: "Alright, mate...can we back it up just a little?" It's good that they all have a useful purpose that fits its design profile; I'm totally on board with the warp sustainer concept. But it just looks a little too busy. Overall, I'd give it a 6/10.
    Also, why are the little integrated warp nacelles considered the secondary system?

    Trying to figure out the mission profile for this ship. If it's just being used in the Alpha Quadrant, it would be a superfast courier but that's not what's needed for that many nacelles and just needs a faster than warp propulsion if it's available. The Quad Warp Nacelle assembly of the Constellation class is what's the long range sustained high warp was designed for. As the tertiary nacelles, i was thinking more of an optional addon feature that would only be needed in case of very long range sustained travel like Voyager returning back to the AQ. This looks more like an experimental new warp tech like Prometheus was a testbed for the Multi-Vector Assault Mode design. Was hoping that the ship would be using alternative FTL propulsion methods like coaxial warp or graviton catapult and that the extra pairs of nacelles are dedicated for them. IMHO, the hirogen ships are designed&built to use a graviton catapult using their communication array to jump between nodes travelling faster than warp and that's something that post Voyager ships should incorporate into their design. Actually any post Voyager ships should be able to deploy coaxial warp modifications without any major changes to the standard starfleet ships design. The ravtion catapult being something that the main deflector and primary warp coil can do as it's very too similar to what Barclay did with the Ent-D to take the ship to the Cytherian star system. Anyway what did the liquid deuterium Voyager duplicate developed for their Faster Than Warp propulsion, does the USS Horizon has deployed something similar to warrant that many warp nacelles.

    Watching this in the far future, and right at 17:35 you guys made me imagine.... Voyager.... with 4 nacelles..... but manticore style, right on top of each other. Its current nacelles would work perfectly for it to. If they can make the delta flyer? Idk it could be too had but if you could sustain high warp for longer...

    Just from the thumbnail I’m saying! Fuck yes!

    I love it. Reminds me of the Prometheus class without multi-vector assault mode. Exploratory/Scientific version of the Prometheus. I say that simply because of the lack of 4 warp nacelles. I could be wrong. I haven't watched enough to see what it's really designed for. This is just my first impression.

    damn, great job on this ship, would love to play with it in STO. It really does seem like a natural post Voyager era progression

    You're clearly very talented Cockings, as designs go it's highly detailed. I'm not a fan of the shape though, but nor am I a fan of the Intrepid or Prometheus, I just don't like that aesthetic. The Sovereign is about as pointy as I like, anything more and it loses me. But this is purely a taste thing, the design is excellent, especially if you are a fan of that aesthetic.

      Yep thats fair enough! We all cant like every ship...like the Ent J 50% love it 50% hate it...and many still hate the Ent D design?!?!...so yeh...cant please everyone...but thanks for seeing past that at the details and the thought put in! Enjoy the episode!

    Awesome ship and progression links to fleet. I know this ship has gotta separate like the Prometheus. Can't wait for part 2.

    • @SGUDistantHope

      It actually does not separate! :O :D

      @@SGUDistantHope wow Commander it sure looked like it could from the bottom view and separate into 3 like Prometheus. It's still an awesome looking ships all the same. I'm sure Rick Sternbach and Captain Foley are extremely proud of your design as you are. LOL you could have left the non separation detail for your big mic drop for part 2 lol.

    A ship needs only barely bumped on one engine and the first words out of an officer's mouth is warp drive offline.
    4 pairs of engines seems silly but hey, you get shot three times in a row and still have warp escape capability.

    Now the captain can get his hands on her ample nacelles if you'll pardon the engineering parlance.He's got plenty to choose from. :)

    First impression, I really liked it. Then I noticed the extra nacelles and I was like huh. I wondered if the hull was a bit long to be in proportion with the nacelles but the extra ones balance that out. Looks built for speed.
    I wonder about the phaser coverage for the leading edge. There might be some blind spots unless the emitter strips function like turrets at the edges which would be cool.
