They got a great deal on there's for a little under $1800 new in box. I just put mine on a Polish Beryl rifle. Worth every penny! Imagine spending big money on getting these to equip your army and then ordering them with the G36 reticle. Classic Bundeswehr move. That being said, the concept behind the Specter is super cool and deserves more development.
It's interesting that the Bundeswher bought Elcan specters when the currently procured Hensoldt 4x30 and 4x30i are absolutely fantastic. A lot of NATO militaries didn't purchase the dual role variant, but only the 4x fixed which sort of defeats the purpose. At least the Germans purchased the DR variant. Still seems like a general waste of resources when current the current Hensoldt 4x30/4x30i are in service.
@@Ilost11 Apparently they chose the Elcan for a different reason. Look up TILO-6MA. Their SOF already have them, rumors say all combat arms personnel will get them issued. It utilizes the killflash thread on the front for mounting and requires a 1x setting because the TILO does the magnification digitally when its used.
Awesome, thorough review. I've been blessed in my work to have the choice of an excellent assortment of rifle optics, both for close work and longer engagement ranges. I just keep coming back to the ELCAN. It's easier and quicker to zero, it holds its zero even with rough treatment, good for close work, good for longer work, good for passive shooting under nods. It's just a good, reliable all-around optic. Still my go-to after more than a decade.
I was issued the 1-4 Ekcan from 2010 to 2017 and used it in AFG. I liked it. Wish I could justify one now. Used it as a RDS but had the 4x when I needed it. For a 16" or less barrel length catbine, carbine,, I think its better than a LPVO. I own 2 LPVO.
@geebeaux I don't have a Razor. I have a PA Raptor and a Swampfox 1-8. Both work great. For me a scope even on 1x is not a RDS. The Elcan on 1x is a RDS and a 4x capability. Wish I had one now.

I'm extremely happy to see this optic in for review. One of my personal all-time favorites in my optic collection, the glass on 4x is absolutely phenomenal. I would just mention that the ARMs levers loosen overtime and are sized for mil-spec rails which not all receivers fall into spec for. They're fine new, but lots of complaints exist after years of use. Not really a problem for the military as the armorer can readjust them. One can upgrade to MKII ARMs levers to fix the issue somewhat, but it is a shame they aren't included at this price point. The battery compartment for the CR2032 variant can have loose contact too and should be better built for the price range. Your review is top notch as always. I would not bother with the 1 & 6 DR and 1 & 3 & 9 TR Elcan variants. For whatever reason they aren't optically as competent as their smaller brother. They're not bad, but the Elcan 1 & 4 DR seems to be the most coherent, refined and optically impressive of all the designs. My unit was given one of these in 2007 for T&E. Before its first patrol, it got fine sand caught in the elevation adjustment mechanism and it just wouldn’t budge. Couldn’t get it working again. It never left the outpost. It has taken me a long time to come back around to the optic since that experience, but it has clearly proven itself since then.
Yeah, I think it was a freak fluke. And I also think they made improvements over time. It definitely shaped my opinion for a long time though, until I saw enough positive feedback. I’m glad it worked out you and so many others.
The ARMS QD levers are made out of essentially pot metal. I bought a set of ARMS rings and the QD lever sheered in half the first day I had it. I would never trust them again.
I hear everyone talking about the used market for optics. I just can’t find anything worth even looking at. Am I looking in the wrong places?? Do I have to download facespace for the market in question???
I would love to see a review of the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42, especially since there are so few MPVO options out there that aren’t oriented towards hunting.
I’ve had an older generation Elcan for a while now. The glass quality is excellent and the illumination is great. That said, for most use, I just leave it off. On a side note, these are actually pretty good under night vision goggles.
Also, it’s worth noting that the form factor on this is actually quite compact for what it is. It takes up a lot less rail space than a lot of other LPVO/mount combinations. On something like a Mk18 with a 10.3” barrel, this thing is excellent because it fits cleanly on the upper receiver. It feels most at home on my 14.5” AR-15, where the magnification levels match up very nicely with the barrel length. Jeff Gurwitch of Modern Tactical School (check out his channel) talks about this optic a lot in his History of the SOPMOD Block II video, which is really in part an “early history of military optics and the gradual shift into military use of LPVO’s by way of SOCOM.” He said that the Elcan is probably responsible for more on target rounds down range than anything else in the Block II program, and I’m inclined to believe him
Windage on the Vortex Razor UH-1 (Gen2) is also external. You can wobble it by grabbing and "twisting" the optic. And grit can get under the screw. Can you do the same thing with this ELCAN?
@@nathan_k The manual I'm referencing is a 2017 edition. B&H Photo's copy might be a different one that's older. I bought one after witnessing the amount of abuse my fixed 4x elcan on my 240b , took and would still hold a zero. They are bombproof with crystal clear glass. If you have the money buy one.
First time seeing an elcan from a 1st person pov. Looks great. But at 2k, might as well get an acog with RMR. 50k battery life. Or a holosun 509t since its enclosed and titanium.

No clue if you’ll get this… Wanted to let you know I found a scope in this Black Friday add from bass pro shop. Original msrp of $249.99. Cabela’s covenant ar 1-8x24. Skeptical to no end when I saw it was $100 off for Black Friday $149.99!!! Asked the gun counter clerk to see it… Blown away! Said can I see the strike Eagle 1-6? Looked like a tasco in comparison… Burris rt6? Like a tasco in comparison! Said can I see the viper pst gen 2? Finally a $600 scope was comparable to a $249.99 scope!? I would love to see you get one. Absolutely amazing for what it is. Turrets are positive as a speed bump, and zero play in them! It seems too good to be true. So I bought it lol.
In Austria it costs €3.000+! I just picked up the newest AUG version with the newest Elcan 1-4. The rifle was a little cheaper 🤦🏻♂️ BUT worth every cent of durability. Got 4 shot group into 1cm² at 50m
Meh.... I didn't get to look through the optic for long but atleast got to incorporate some live fire through the optic. It's nice glass but far from 2k + glass. The 1x looks like a better LPVO but the 4x is pretty rough, especially if you compare to acogs, any high end LPVO and hell, even the trijicon tr24 has a better 4x. What I didn't like most was how much of the scope body took away from the 1x.
@@TerminalM193 I don't know if you're stupid, but this far exceeds any LPVO or Trijicon for that matter. The 1x is good, but the 4x is phenomenal on the Elcan. If you knew anything you would at least make reference to top tier brands. Trijicon is far from the best and the glass on TR24 is good, but far from this class. The glass on the 4x Elcan fixed or DR well exceeds my Trijicon ACOGs by miles.
@@Ilost11 Like I stated, I didn't get much time behind one and it was a sample size of just 1. They've had a series of QC hiccups over the years so this could be a possibility but I doubt it because it was still clean glass with good transition. The 4x was good but not acog good. I'd like to actually get more time behind one, maybe an entire carbine course but for 2k + that's rather doubtful. Even used models are around 1700-1900 bucks. I would maybe contemplate purchase if it wasn't for how chonky the scope body looked under 1x. It felt like an actual distraction. I did love how bright the red dot on it was though.
No explanation of the reticle, or the range-finding elements within the reticle? My experience-yes, the glass is EXCELLENT. You can't touch this quality in an LPVO without spending big money as well. The speed of magnification change cannot be beat, all while keeping your cheek weld. Go ahead and get the MK II levers from ARMS-they will work better and allow usage on out-of-spec rails and prevent breaking the levers on rails that are on the wide side of spec. Again, the glass is ridiculously good, and it can't be overstated how much more important that is than total magnification-the ELCAN gives better resolution at 4X than many mid-tier LPVOs do at 6X.
@@CDOESwow man thanks for the reply! You make such great content didn’t expect a reply. Thats awesome to hear! I just got a 1-4 on the way but am interested in the bigger models for an AR-10.

Wonder when they shot up in price? I bought one brand new from eurooptics in 2020 for $1700. At that time they could be bought pre owned for around $1300-1400. I really love the Elcan its very nostolgic but not at 2k though. The ARMS mounts and poor eye relief sucks. 🤷♂🤷♂
Still looking and doing research to buy my 1st LPVO. Budget is about 600 max. Not a fan of the primary arms. Just don’t like the reticle. Any suggestions. Just want to one and done
I am unable to find the MOA or MRAD values for the BDC on this scope online (even looked at a PDF of the manual). Does anyone have any idea where I can find this information? Want to see if this can work with M193 and a 12 - 16 inch barrel.
@@maxfortune4466 me too; maybe I'll use the moa drops for that as an rough estimation of the drops on the bdc. It won't be exact but maybe it'll be enough, unless I want to reach out to the manufacturer.
It works well. The 32 mm objective lens allows enough light transmission to mount a -14 behind it and still be effective. Not so well when helmet mounted, unless you use a riser under the Elcan, but the Eotech will still be better.
I think the ACOGs with Piggyback red dot (like a Holosun, not an RMR) combo is probably the best option on the market for a jack of all trades optic setup. When will we see you get your hands on that?
Literally looked at it yesterday in person, and suddenly Google knows what I looked at. They are spying on us. Also...wouldn't purchase it for 1000. Eyebox is so tight, and this thing is as heavy as a brick. I looked at 1.5x/6x variant
Because lpvo and mount weightthe same and often weigh more. You can just go off the weight of the lpvo because it doesn’t include mount weight, but the ELCAN does.

Any chance you’ll get your hands on a TA02 ACOG? That would be this optic’s closest competitor
Love this optic and your channel
Give me this old Tony vibes. Good stuff
The pew pews alone earned the like and subscribe lol
I sure I'm not the only one who's subscribed that has an ACOG maybe one of us could let you borrow it lol
Would gladly send mine in. Have the ta31-ch with dual illuminated rmr
When you said 2 grand I was shocked? Who is buying one of these, and why?
Looks really good optically compared side-by-side with most everything in cdoes other videos. Really awesome optic
When I seen your car collection I knew this was out of my price range but thanks for the "pew pew" laughs. Hopefully, you were 'trying' to be funny. 🤣
1.5-6 in the future?
@@markrobison2549 it's in production 👌
@@CDOESwow man thanks for the reply! You make such great content didn’t expect a reply. Thats awesome to hear! I just got a 1-4 on the way but am interested in the bigger models for an AR-10.
Fantastic! I'm looking at using this for my 556 rifle. Hoping it'll last a long ass time. The build I was going for was something I won't have to replace or upgrade for years down the line, and I think this would tidy it up nicely
How often do you normally replace the guns you have?
This optic will practically outlast your rifle.... If anything happens to it the QC is amazing.
There is a new MPVO 1-12 roger Berra has one he just reviewed would like to see what your thoughts are on one maybe you could score one for the channel looks very interesting
Great vid!
These things are always so tempting, despite being so niche/esoteric, etc
If you’re gonna look at the Elcan, just do a TA31 and get it over with.
Thank you for the video! I would like to see a review on the SIG BRAVO4 Battle Pack.
came for the review, stayed for the "piew piews"
Wonder when they shot up in price? I bought one brand new from eurooptics in 2020 for $1700. At that time they could be bought pre owned for around $1300-1400. I really love the Elcan its very nostolgic but not at 2k though. The ARMS mounts and poor eye relief sucks. 🤷♂🤷♂
Have you really missed the supply chain shutdowns, lock downs, and 30% inflation making literally every thing more expensive?
I wish someone would review its bigger brother the 1.5x 3x 9x version
ARMS mount being better than a LaRue mount lol. That's a first. If you damage the rail with a LaRue mount it's because you didn't adjust it properly
Great review, how would you compare it to a acog?
Do you have any plans on reviewing the Meopta Meosport R 3-15x50?
That garage goes kinda hard tho
Pew pew 🔫
What are your thoughts on the 1.5-6x version?
If I want to send in an optic for review, how would I go about doing that?
Reddit would be the best.
Still looking and doing research to buy my 1st LPVO. Budget is about 600 max. Not a fan of the primary arms. Just don’t like the reticle. Any suggestions. Just want to one and done
Vortex Viper PST Gen 2
Can you please test 1.5-6x too?
I am unable to find the MOA or MRAD values for the BDC on this scope online (even looked at a PDF of the manual). Does anyone have any idea where I can find this information? Want to see if this can work with M193 and a 12 - 16 inch barrel.
The only info I could find is that it is calibrated for 62gr from a 16“ barrel.
@@maxfortune4466 me too; maybe I'll use the moa drops for that as an rough estimation of the drops on the bdc. It won't be exact but maybe it'll be enough, unless I want to reach out to the manufacturer.
Night vision scope reviews?? Really looking forward to you reviewing an ATN Thor series scope
Is the Steiner P4Xi still your favorite?
i want one of these so bad...but i don't think i can justify buying one at that price xD
I’d like to see how this thing works with nods I’ve heard the light transmission is great
It works well. The 32 mm objective lens allows enough light transmission to mount a -14 behind it and still be effective. Not so well when helmet mounted, unless you use a riser under the Elcan, but the Eotech will still be better.
This range upstate NY?
I think the ACOGs with Piggyback red dot (like a Holosun, not an RMR) combo is probably the best option on the market for a jack of all trades optic setup. When will we see you get your hands on that?
I like offset reddot more because you can keep your cheekweld when switching
I wish I could afford this optic!
The BDC is great. I could hit a torso plate from 700m with the 2nd shot.
Literally looked at it yesterday in person, and suddenly Google knows what I looked at.
They are spying on us. Also...wouldn't purchase it for 1000. Eyebox is so tight, and this thing is as heavy as a brick.
I looked at 1.5x/6x variant
The PewPew sold it for me.
Nice optic but not worth 2k not even close
Pew pew
I would totally have an Elcan if they cut the price and weight in half
If it was either lighter or cheaper I’d get it. But until then, no.
Holy hell at that weight why not go LPVO 😂
Because lpvo and mount weightthe same and often weigh more. You can just go off the weight of the lpvo because it doesn’t include mount weight, but the ELCAN does.
Weird.... Says video was uploaded 24min ago but comments say 2 weeks+
Because Patreon donors get to see videos early
@@riskyflash6812 ahhh that explains it then, ty!
ARMS levers are horrible.
Man I wish I could afford an Elcan haha
Omg the weight
The same, or less, than an LPVO with mount. So, what's your concern?
@@allenmurray3981 carried c79 optical on a c7 for years. elcans are too heavy
