Considering you’re getting a phenomenal 1x with a daylight bright 6moa dot, insanely nice crosshair reticle that often precludes needing said dot, and the ability to illuminate the entire reticle at dusk / in low light / night time, and it really works well …. And oh yeah, you flip the switch, not unlike flipping down a magnifier except less effort, and your “magnifier” is almost quite literally an entire 4x ACOG, with much better eye relief, almost the exact same field of view (6.5 degrees vs 7, or 34.5ish feet vs 37 feet left to right at 100yd), and that red dot was second focal plane all this time, so on 4x? 1.5 moa. Oh yeah, and all that comes in an insanely tough shell, with a quick detach mount with a true return to zero as long as it goes in the same rails. I got my latest one (after foolishly selling my first one to a friend who said he would sell it back, then decided he liked it too much 😮) around last new years , for an “end of year” 15% off sale price … this resulted in low $1800 + if I recall, and all I can think of is getting another one. Especially now that I’ve learned reptilia makes saddle mounts for the ACRO P2/T2… and the Elcan, by design, doesn’t sit in some high 1.93” or beyond mount … the standard height means that a top dot is able to be used while still maintain a cheek / jaw weld … I don’t want a 1.5-6, I don’t want a 1.5-6, I don’t want a 1.5-6 …. Just another “legacy” 1-4 , because we can all agree that an ambidextrous magnification lever and a picatinny rail on top isn’t worth $3k+ … but guys. You gotta try one. It’s a red dot / magnifier in its final form, where your red dot has both an etched reticle AND T2 level brightness, and your magnifier is essentially an ACOG TA-31, but with the eye relief of the TA-11, and that 6moa dot is still there but has transformed to a 1.5moa dot on account of it existing in the second focal plane and staying the same size while everything else got bigger. Whew lad. Whew. …… whew. I need one more.

Elcans aren't actually that heavy. The weight is comparable to an LPVO and mount combined. Unmounted, it feels heavy because it's dense. I haven't tried the 1.5-6, but I really like the 1-4.
Yeah. My Sig MSR 1-6 with the factory mount weighs 22. Actually that's why I usually run prisms, even the ones everyone complains about being hogs are still 8oz lighter than LPVOs. It's all relative to your wants and needs.
I bought a BNIB Elcan SpecterDR 1-4 on TacSwap for $1300 and sold it 2 days later for $2k… While I love my current set up of a Romeo 8T on a Unity FAST riser and the brand new Unity 4x FTC magnifier behind it, I honestly still regret selling that Elcan sometimes.
They’re extremely similar reticles, and in a pinch one will work with the other caliber. Now … if you’re talking about the 1.5-6 in addition to the 1-4? I was previously in the camp of “why would you possibly…” …. Until I recently learned of the reptilia mounts for the ACRO / T2, and the fact that you can maintain a cheek / jaw weld while using said top dot …. Then buddy, if it IS the 1.5-6 you’re considering ? …. Me too, man. Me too. Sigh
I used to own the 1.5-6x its IRL girth CAN NOT be understated. On an AR platform its laughably huge, you could beat someone to death and itd still hold zero tbf

I feel like the 7.62 reticle would be a fantastic option for a Recce/DMR 16” LR308. Realistically it’s less than a Razor 1-10, and only a little more than a Razor 1-6.
Which reticle is that on the TA31D? It didnt look like it had a 200 meter crosshatch on the bdc on my end. That 200m stadia always bugged me cause it makes it too busy, but ive never seen an ACOG crosshair reticle without one
This is cool, and if I had 3k to throw down on an optic, I would do it in a heartbeat. Sadly, I don't have 3k to throw down... but if they just do a 1x/8x or 2x/10x, I'll probably sell my soul to get that. I like my LPVO's, but I really don't need the in-between settings. Give me a 1 or 2x and then the max mag.
Are there any decent fixed power scopes in 6+ power? I see people get various VPOs (LVPO, MVPO etc.), but they piggyback red dots on them. If you cover the lower end of the magnification with a reflex sight, why not mount it on a fixed power scope? Or is it just not in vogue with the gun community?
On the weight. My nx8 1-8 with badger c1 mount is 24.3 oz. This is not a heavy optic considering that the mount is integrated. Big misconception about the Elcan; especially the 1.5x 6x.
I care about the 6x performance, the 1.5x is a bonus, since I don't need it to be great at the ranges I'd be shooting with 1.5x magnification, just hold zero.

Interesting, even though it's calibrated for 5.56, it feels like the zoom levels would be perfect on a ar10 / semi auto 308. The price is outrageous so I'll likely never get one.
I have practical experience with it on 7.62 rifle, and it’s sucks, especially for so expensive optic. - mount doesn’t hold enought … optic slides back and forth every time you shot - parallax is set on 300m … really bad for zeroing at 100m - practical eye relief really short + huge ocular .. it hits you on your eye if not in perfect shooting position .. anyway it hits you on your helmet every time. - back iron sight felt off after couple of shooting (without helmet).. and also hitting you in helmet every shot - iron sights are useless - 1.5x sucks .. its far away from 1x - SFP sucks .. in dynamic and tactical shooting people forget to switch to 6x .. switch is “finicky” to use - mechanism is exposed .. you never know when something fucks your zero - reticle not bad, but also not great .. BDC never match your ballistics - center dot to big for using it on 1.5x and ranges further than 50m - price should be 3 or more times cheaper for what you get Better to buy normal LPVO, if possible FFP … “ Primary Arms much cheaper and much better “

ARMS levers are pot metal "soft" mounts. Pat Rogers educated us on these circa 2003. I can honestly say I haven't seen anyone using these mounts since 2005 and never see the L can on any rifle used by any Law Enforcement Agency including Feds or dialed in Civilians. The only one I did see was in a DRMO box for a nearby police department. He put it on his rifle and tried it for a month then gave it away....
I’m in law enforcement and all my friends are in law enforcement or the military, or both. This is literally the best combat optic on the planet. You don’t see it because it is expensive and made in Canada. Direct competitor of Trijicon.

I recently played with this thing's ray trace optic after looking over their patent. It's really a mess at low power.

Because a 12x prism optic would be HUGE.
