    Some brutal facts. If Harvard or any Ivy League School (or any other extremely competitive school) admitted students based on academic achievement, there would be less than 1% black in these schools. Would that mean less blacks going to college? No, it just means that good black students would attend less competitive schools that they are better suited for and where they are more likely to graduate. I hope Harvard loses this lawsuit. But i have VERY LITTLE faith in our Court System to do the right thing.

    No, Please do not confuse the issue, This is neither about affirmative action nor diversity, this is about Harvard discriminates against your fellow American sugar coated under the name of scores of "AA-likeability, "AA-integrity" and "AA-courage," (How on earth can they objectively rating this ...Mind you all ... Even your mum and your dad would give you different scores !!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
    Worse ... This is racism in its purest form. Proof ? Here is Oxford Dictionary definition for racism: "The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races."
    Bytheway, I am a VietAmerican and I am sure that I am NOT less (or more) "likeability," "integrity" and "courage" than any average American or any average other nationalities (or race) :-) :-)

    This is absolutely disgusting. It's time for South and East Asians to vote for the party that will end this discrimination. If the black community hasn't gotten their act together then that's their problem not the wide American populations problem. Harvard has a general acceptance rate of 10% whereas blacks who apply have an acceptance rate of almost 17%. Asians with a 3.4 to 3.6 GPA have an acceptance rate of 30% for medical school whereas black applicants with the same GPA have about 85% acceptance rate. I'm done with this.

  • @WolfPredator89

    Why am I not surprised that Gregory Dawson a black man, supports Harvard on this issue and supports Affirmative Action. It's well known that unfortunate trait in human nature is that individual humans only care about themselves, their own needs and their own livelihoods and could not care less if their actions negatively impact others. Unfortunately some African American people in America support Affirmative Action because they want to give black people a "leg up" and "special treatment" in education and employment and they don't care how much that could discriminate against OTHER RACES such as White or Asian people.
    This sort of reverse racism and pandering towards black people as compensation for the "hundreds of years of ravial inequality" such slavery & racial segregation and is completely wrong, unfair, racist itself and unconstitutional.
    No one should be denied entry into their desired Universities simply because they're NOT BLACK!! Universities should not have an agenda of admitting more black students for the sake of "diversity"

    • @rand0md00d
      @rand0md00d 6 лет назад

      The culture STRONGLY emphasizes prestige and validation of one's work. Asian-Americans are raised to work their asses off because in their minds, they NEED those high test scores to validate that they're smart. Just an acceptance letter from Harvard and other top schools is one of the highest forms of validation an Asian-American can hope for. Oddly enough, I think many immigrant families stress so much about entering a top college that they have no idea what's actually supposed to happen in college to get a great career afterwards.
      The truth is to have a great career and life, plenty of wonderful programs around the country are available to teach the skills heavily demanded in the marketplace. And I think it takes a full generation for Asian-Americans to realize this, as second and third generational families care much less about where their kids end up in college.

      @@rand0md00d I don't think validation is the only consideration. Being a Harvard alum opens doors in a manner that is unimaginable. And that's a straight up fact. You cannot just set up a parallel institute - Harvard has hundreds of years of credibility behind it(questionable as it may be - Harvard grads heavily feature in white collar crime). So if do all things right, if a quota is the one thing holding you back, you will act. Keep in mind that Harvard does accept grants from the government - grants that are probably disproportionately funded by the community that is facing a perceived discrimination.

It gives the immediate impression that only Harvard's side is highlighted. It will be much better to have a thumbnail with all three speakers' faces shown. Of course, due to studio topography, face will be partially shown for the speaker on the left, while the other two's faces (Greg and Swan, from two different sides on the issue) can be fully visible.

    Merit is BS! The the definition of “merit” is fluid and tends to reflect the values and interests of those who have the power to impose their particular cultural ideals. In other words, people who have economic and political clout - people who are predominantly white - decide what we measure and how we measure those things. That is how “merit” is engineered into the American education system, which in turn recreates wealth and power in America.
