Above all I really appreciate that ABC and Muir gave Asian Americans a voice on this debate unlike other news outlets. This is a deeply personal issue to a lot of people either as students or as parents and almost everyone will be biased because of their personal experiences. Giving people of all sides a voice without judgement is the best we can do.

We as a society have somehow come to the understanding that racism is ok when it is done to this group but not that, for whatever reason "progress" is no longer about equality for all but rather equality for the select few while oppression is ok for others. In 50 years people will look back on today and realize with horror the kind of racism that was casually thrown around in the name of diversity.

Bravo Alex!!!! It's so rare to see a main stream news network give an Asian American an opportunity to voice opinions that represent so many Asian Americans' true thoughts on this matter. Thank you Alex, from the bottom of my heart, for your courage to speak the unpopular truth that many people much older than you cannot say out loud, and for representing! Discrimination against Asians is DISCRIMINATION on the basis of race, it is no less unfair and upsetting just because it is done under a different label. Acknowledging the discrimination against Asian students in the college entrance context is not pitting minorities against each other (an argument often made in main stream media as if Asians can be fooled into silence and submission and not recognize that such an argument is just a distraction from the real issue), it's correcting something that is clearly wrong!! My step-son is an immigrant. He came over from the Philippines as a student who was near the top of his class at a private high school and at a college as well. He was offered no scholarships so he went to a junior college by working at Target during the day and going to school at night. After he got his 2 year degree he was offered a job at Target as a robot mechanic. He started at $26/hr. Four years later he makes $46/hr. But John Deere was hiring their robot repairman away from them so Target raised their salary to 47.5/hr to match John Deere. My step-son also joined the Army reserve and is leaning diesel mechanics and will have his college paid for by both Target and the Army as he works toward the higher degrees. He didn't whine because other minorities got scholarships he might have been more qualified for. He went to work and succeeded on his own. Some say this "cannot be done." But he did it. I contributed only $6,000 to his education. He didn't need any more he said.

It’s simple. Best players will get to play in the best league. It’s because they worked hard for it and earned it. Coming from an underprivileged background should not be a deciding factor. Same knowledge should apply to schools and society. You need to earn it. Not asking for it just because.

However, African Americans still face unfair and often unconscious racial bias that might manifest itself in admission decisions, and I'm sympathetic to how this policy was meant to balance that out a bit.
The biggest problem perhaps was how it lumped Asian American students together. Two immigrants from Asia could be from vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds. Some Asian countries or regions within are very poor. Their children then might grow up with different conditions and opportunities.

You never know what any individual has gone through in their life.. The only way to know is for them to tell you. That should not be a surprise. And I'm absolutely positive that there are plenty of minority people who had perfectly acceptable or even privileged lives. On the opposite end i know there are majority citizens that were not given any more advantage than a minority. Proving that special treatment based on any one or few characteristics is not the answer. There were and are laws that prohibit discrimination based on solely color, religion, sex etc... calling out infractions on this and enforcing discrimination laws was and still is the only honorable answer. As a black American I hate to be the one to point out that the woman who spoke first is from Nigerian immigrant parents, she said. Her family was not part of the struggle for equality in America. I'm sure they came after the heavy lifting was done. I don't see her argument as credible.
Ending AA will not benefit Asian students in short or long run. Top schools have never looked only at grades and they know when you joined the debate club in your senior year to fluff up your resume.
The supreme court decision is a good decision because it takes the "I did not get in because I'm not black" complaint off the table. Now those high scoring Asians, who still will not get in will just have to say "I did not get in because my essay and the world view it exposed, was not compelling enough." Harvard's freshman class is 24% Asian. If you did not get in, it's probably moe than just you not being black. Your presentation sucked.
Nobody is impressed with the kid who spent 12 years with his head in the books and never applied what he learned in a meaningful way to his life. This is opposed to a kid who also got very good grades but did more in launching a business, demonstrating passion for a meaningful cause by their actions and contributions or making a difference in the world already.
Some good test-taking Asians will still be rejected. They'll just have to find another excuse as to why.

As a first generation Asian American, I don't see how using AA to correct past discrimnation is even a sound argument when AA discriminate against Asian students. We arrived at the US later than most other minority races, and most of us came poorer than the poorest African American or Hispanic Americans. While African Americans were freed in the 1860s, we Asians had to endure chinese exclusion acts until 1940s, the Japanese Americans put into concentration camps when African Americans first got their GI bill. 30 years ago, we were still looked down as people who did laundrys. When we immigrated 30 years ago, we weren't eligible for food stamps, medicaid or social security because were not citizens. My dad made $900 a month and my paper delivering, new paper recycline money helped to put food on the table. But we didn't waste our energy complaining or blaming others for being poor and late arrival to the US. We just studied and worked our butts off until we made it out of the ghetto. Not saying past discriminiation is fair, but you can moan about it or you can spend that energy building a new life by studying hard. Looking as my fellow Asians, I think we got the right idea.

Frankly, there are fewer Asians than there are Blacks and Latinos in the United States... so who really is the minority? When it comes down to it, race should NOT be a factor... because it's racist. It should be based on MERIT. I don't understand why that's such a complicated thing to grasp. Many Asians are also from low socio-economic backgrounds being immigrants themselves or children of first generation immigrants. Many Asians also face hate based on their race and racial discrimination in the US. Asians were in internment camps during WW2. Asians lived in ghettos when arriving in this country and had no rights. They built the railroads, they were indentured servants and then were deported. If you want to even things out, give students from low socio-economic backgrounds more financial aid or scholarships. There shouldn't be quotas based on RACE. It should be based on MERIT alone.

Subject: Cease and Desist: Misclassification of Americans of American Indian and Colonial European Descent
      To Whom It May Concern,
We, the American Indian Empowerment PAC, hereby issue this Cease and Desist notice to all legal, elected, appointed, juristic, citizens, residents, resident aliens, for-profit and non-profit corporate persons, and all other non-governmental organizations under the jurisdiction of the United States.
It has come to our attention that individuals, organizations, and corporations are deliberately misclassifying Americans of American Indian and colonial European descent as "Black" or "African American" for profit. This misclassification violates treaties, constitutions, and covenants, and it is imperative that this practice be discontinued immediately.
Misidentifying Americans of American Indian and colonial European descent as "Black" or "African American" erases their unique cultural heritage and history, infringing upon their right to self-determination and self-identification. The Indian Bill of Rights, Indian Civil Rights Act, and American Indian Self-determination and Education Assistance Act of 1975 were enacted to protect the rights of American Indians and colonial European descent Americans. Furthermore, treaties such as the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, the Treaty with the Cherokee, and the Treaty of Delaware were established to safeguard the sovereignty and self-determination of American Indian tribes. The Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States also ensure the fundamental rights of all Americans, regardless of their race or ethnicity. Additionally, the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples recognizes the right of Indigenous peoples to self-determination and the preservation of their cultural identity.
By perpetuating the false belief in race and imposing the identity of "Black" or "African American" on Americans of American Indian and colonial European descent, these individuals, organizations, and corporations are promoting a caste system identity that does not exist and undermining the principles of liberty and justice for all upon which the United States of America was founded.
Therefore, we demand that all social media companies, elected officials, public servants, public corporations, and their agents and partners immediately cease and desist from using terms such as FBA, Black, Afro-American, African Americans, minorities, people of color, communities of color, ADOS, or any other marketing slogan or racist term to describe and determine the identity of Americans of American Indian and colonial European descent with ruddy, tawny, brunette, fair, swarthy, and dark skin tones as "Black" or "African American."
Failure to comply with this Cease and Desist notice will result in legal action to protect the rights and identities of Americans of American Indian and colonial European descent.
This notice is issued under the authority of PUBLIC LAW 93-638, Indian Civil Rights Act of 1968 (ICRA), 25 U.S.C.§§ 1301-1304 (ICRA).

Black peoples skin color is their religion, artificially created to no fault of their own due to it being a requirement for them specifically at the time of their trafficking and after just in order for them to remain among the living in a country that's designed to impair them simply for the color of their skin. Since this only seems to apply to colleges, what will be next? Also, why is there no anti-black hate crime bill but yet there's an Asian anti-hate bill? Seems like liberalism and multiculturalism outside of black people, and their issues is the very real danger which needs to be spotlighted. Wow. Okay, I’m an African foreign student who studied in the US (working on getting into Harvard for a particular masters degree, John Hopkins and others were okay and I got in, but I really like this specific program) and let me tell you, I am more than ecstatic about this decision of eradicating AA. There is a clear difference in average performance between international students of minority groups vs those that are local (aka USA natives). Based on my experience and other students experiences in different states, foreign students do much better than these local students of the same race and we have an even tighter margin than Asian Americans to be accepted in a school and we all come from VARIOUS backgrounds. It was infuriating having to prove my placement in the university. Yes, I was the kind of person who was usually chilling in the late 90’s (even if I failed), published some fiction work for fun while getting rewarded for it, magazine features and had various board memberships. However, people who didn’t know me or my achievements would judge me purely on my race - and affirmative action affected me (and other internationals) negatively by shoving me into a privileged beam of light that was not even there to begin with.
Some genuinely well-rounded African Americans even stated this absurdity as well. It’s ridiculous to be honest. Other countries only accept the best so why should America cripple itself to cater to those who are honestly incompetent. Majority of those who are admitted through AA and don’t actually have what it takes fail out or struggle unnecessarily.
Honestly, life will never be fair and, if you can’t swallow that fact and play your cards right and work hard and smart, just know you are destined to get the short end of the stick. Otherwise, we’d all be billionaires.
Anyway, I’m more than happy with this ruling. Now getting in will be purely on those with evidence of great potential.
May the odds be in your favour because I have nothing to fear really. I know my limits and use that to my advantage pretty wisely. Then again, I come from a very competitive background so I’m used to this.

If there aren't enough alumni to get things kickstarted, then a fund or charity sponsered by the governments of those minorities, Noble Peace Prize, the Science Council, a probono law fund, even regular peeps who want to donate a little for future role models, etc, could maybe work. This could all just be a white assertion flex and facade, and the existing majority of toppers don't honestly want diversity. Doctors won’t be able to practice if they aren’t qualified and don’t go through years of monitoring and testing to ensure they’re ready. Have you never heard of residency? You don’t graduate med school and then magically get a job to start operating on people.
Please don’t use talking points that don’t match up with reality.

What do you call the doctor that graduated at the bottom of their class?
      "Doctor."
I do understand what you are saying by avoiding employers who do not want to hire people of certain groups, but they are not legally forced to, rather, they can be sued if the person of said group can prove they weren't hired due to being a part of this group, (being over 40, a veteran, being a born female, disabled, chronic illnesses such as HIV, or a racial minority.) From my understanding employers can receive tax credits for hiring people who fall under these groups.

There are some people who was under AA who went to Harvard and graduated at the top of their class. What you saying is extremely dangerous. You act like these children were getting 2.0s. Some people were well over 4.0.

Both students responded succinctly to the Supreme Court's ruling ending affirmative action in college admissions. One student said it was a "hard" decision that would have a negative impact on minority students. The other said the ruling highlighted the need for alternative solutions to address the issue of diversity in college admissions.

There can be 2 different universities. One university for meritorious students and another for diversity university.
I, as a patient, will go for a meritorious doctor.
I, as a traveler, will take an airline that employs meritorious pilots.

They should have different universities to serve different IQ individuals:
      1. being the highest
      10. being the dumbest
That way everybody knows where they should belong. Don't reward lowly IQ individual at the highest if they can't compete. In fact, you're not doing them a favor....they would not be comfortable EVEN if they get in. You can't throw a hellish person into heaven and expect them not to writhe in pain before they start diving (head first) back into hell where they belong.

I’m sorry, but was she serious when she said that this update to the law will make colleges put race at the forefront of their decision making process? That’s literally the opposite of what’s happening.
Y’all chose a poor representative for this argument

No she said that student will now have to write more specifically about how race affected their experience growing up. Since race can’t be considered, personal struggles can, so that’s the way to get “around it”.

@@freddyt55555 i don’t think they were necessarily denying that, they were just filling in the blank where I had a misunderstanding.
Realistically yeah, if a student still wants to use their race as a reason for hardship, then they just need to write about it now vs have it be assumed.
I think this is how things should be though. If you truly have had a harder modern life due to your race, then putting that in your essay should be totally fine. But the idea that colleges will just accept anybody based on race due to preconceived ideas of hardship, then we take away from the people who truly work to make a life for themselves in this world.
