Hello Mr Baton. This Saturday, I think I was able to put a face to your name: like you, I went "back and forth" on the Mall to follow each Band of the Guards. I was therefore able to appreciate your courage (we are not so young anymore, neither you nor me, though…), your professionalism and the heavy equipment that you have to carry for several kilometres. I believe that followers do not imagine what you endure to offer us your videos for free! On the other hand, you yourself, do not imagine the pleasure you bring us! We can only go to London twice a year but your videos allow us to live there all year round and also constitute, thanks to you, wonderful souvenir albums! All our friendships from Belgium!!

@@MrBaton74 hello MrB! I’m gratefully watching this with eager anticipation as I shall be attending the Major Generals review next week🥳 It’s videos like yours that have inspired me to do so. So I thought who better to ask than you as what is the best time to be at the parade ground in order to see the bands and troops arriving please? That, to me, is very much a part of the whole occasion which, according to the tickets starts at 10.30 but I think everybody would be in place then?🤔 I hope you don’t mind my asking😌

@@AnnofWales21 Hi, the bands should be leaving Wellington barracks at about 10am or so, from what i've been told and seen on other videos this year the arrival of the bands will be slightly different to previous years, but I would think if you're sat down by 10.00/10.15 you should not have long to wait. Fingers crossed for a dry day, I'll be on Horse Guards for the Major Generals Review as well. You do need to allow a little time to get through security but in my experience they do get you through quite quick. Hope you have a great time on Saturday.

@@missread7781 Eggsactly! The Military side is the best part, Marching Soldiers who perform intricate movements, Massed Bands who also perform intricate movements of a different kind & provide the Soundtrack to it all, The King's Artillery & the magnificence of the Mounted Band & all those Horses & the sight of polished Cuirasses & Plumed Helmets of the Cavalry! I'm not even interested in the Royal Contingent & I certainly am not interested in watching the Queen Consort following the King round the inspection of the Troops in a carriage forsooth, not only is it a break from Tradition, she's probably a better Horsewoman than most mounted Officers & Troopers on Parade. I don't like breaks with Tradition, solely to pander to someone's ego & insecurities. I don't recall ever seeing Queen Consort Mary, Elizabeth Bowes-Lion or Prince Consort Philip ever Inspecting the Troops with the King or Queen at Trooping the Colour, not that I'm old enough to remember George V or Queen Mary.

Wow, look at the fury of those Gunners horses, beautiful! As a musician myself and owned horses, and been on active duty for years. Do you know how hard it is, to move while playing, and stay on the line, that are hours of drill to get these skills? If we were drilling new conscripts, we learned this. But the first time we let them try by their selves. And what happened, they all end up almost of the middle of the pack. It's something human and fun to see. So it's hard to do. And even riding a horse and line up, and play is even more challenging. And my trained ears tells me these are serious musicians, even I heard a small rhythmic hiccup on the household frontmen with the big kick drums. But bad notes? Not that I can hear one. Great work. And great video. And I love the traditions from the Brits. And commonwealth, of course.

After watching this excellent video for the Umpty third time, I have come to the conclusion that the Reason the Regimental Bands of the Household Division are so good, is that they start the Musicians off very young, as children in the ranks. Unfortunately, the need to skip hop to get back into step, tends to ruin the dressing & overall neatness of the Band. Also, not a good look to position them alongside 6ft + Bandsman, in the Ranks. I did have a little giggle when Senior DM Gareth Chambers M V😂O, was happily marching along to Wellington Barracks, in his own little World & suddenly realised his Band wasn't there, necessitating an about face & tactical marching Backwards until they caught up! love it!!!😂

You can definitely pick out the Melody in the first part & the second part is the Traditional Arrangement. @@vickyRoyalHistory Hello Vicky! Hope all is well! I think it must since you don't have to cook! 😂
Anyways, The Band of the Household Cavalry is just one Band, they are trained to ride horses and march on foot. They're the same musicians, the Snare Drummer and the Bass Drummer that march on foot are the Kettle Drummers when the Band is mounted. The Band when on Foot is lead by the Band Corporal Major (BCM) and when Mounted by their Director of Music (DOM), when on Foot the Director of Music is either Behind the Band or in the Ranks. His position in the Band changes depending on the Number of Musicians on Parade. If the Band is on Foot and all the Ranks are full the (DOM) Will march behind the band.
Some more info which you might already know, but it's always nice to have. The Band of the Household Cavalry is made of two Regiments. If you look at the Band half is wearing Blue Tunics and the other is wearing Red Tunics. The Blue is for the Blues and Royals and the Red is for the Life Guards. They used to be two separate Bands but the government cutbacks sadly made them into one band. They decided to keep the uniforms of both Bands and thus we have the half the Band wearing Blue and the other Red. They used to come together as we see them now for Trooping the Colour in the past. But, other than that they were separate Bands. Hope this helps you in winning the argument even more!! 😂

To be fair, to the uninitiated, Nijmegen could be difficult, it's not spelt phonetically & with a 'j' could throw people. Having said that, professional Broadcasters are supposed to check out unfamiliar words & spellings, that's just sheer laziness & unprofessional if they don't.
Unfortunately more & more Americanisms are creeping in to every English speaking Country in the World. Personally, I hate it, in my world, I still go to the Shops, Stores are the place Shops keep their stock. I walk to said shops on a footpath, I have no idea how to walk to the side, unless I was a crab I suppose. I get my letters from the Postie, in my Letter Box. My letter Box is not sexed so I don't know if it's a Male Box or a Female Box. My Alphabet ends with the Letter Z as Zed, Zee makes me think of Foreigners who don't have English as their first language, trying to say 'The'. I'm of the opinion that Americans Speak American English, not proper English & raise my eyebrows when they complain Brits don't speak English, I mean Brits have been speaking English for longer than USA has been a Country. They also can't weigh stuff, measure stuff or count he number of floors a house has accurately. I'll just stay in my own little world thank you & ignore Pseudo English Americanisms.

Oh gosh. Them again, waking up the poor night shift workers, wanting to get some sleep during the day.

Rather disappointing that in the title shot all the assorted WO's leading the parade are so badly out of step with each other. Not particularly impressive.
