I don't know. Lisa definitely has a better deal in some ways- not least because she isn't being physically abused like Bart- but if anything she's the one who gets neglected. Marge told Bart that music means a ton to Lisa so told him step down. While watching The Simpsons I notice how many times Bart is shown to have great talent but always was ignore or had to give it up because Lisa couldn’t handle being ignored. We see Bart always giving up his bit of recognition for Lisa to be happy, and rarely does Lisa do the same for Bart. In fact Lisa’s ego tends to get more bloated and she has become even worse in the newer seasons.
At the beginning Bart was the smartest Simpson. He was unfocused, ignored or neglected. And most of his plots revolved around wasted potential or him not being able to cope with this. Maggie was the talented one. Lisa was the child that was protected and helped into success. This episode captures that.
Technically he’s 12 just for this episode as it showing Bart’s entire childhood and some of Bart’s adulthood and how Homer, Marge and Lisa attitude and behaviour towards Bart effected/impacted him. All other episodes he’s ten years old it’s even been stated in a few episodes by Bart and some of the other characters
As a child with 5 siblings most of them high achievers i can get the feeling of being neglected and alone but my grandparents where the ones who brought me out of that and I love them.
The thing about Bart is, he isn't dumb. He struggles intellectually yes but he more than makes up for this by being socially able in life. However, since he is neglected, he tends to put much of these skills into bad things.
I agree. I see a lot of my brother in Bart. He had a hard time growing up, but ended up with a job (garbage man) he liked and eventually, a family of his own. I think with a little more interest, Bart might have had a similar result.
@@turpasauna Sometimes, having a higher EQ is better than having a higher IQ. Bart clearly doesn't have that high of an IQ like Lisa but he certainly has better EQ than her.
Barts always shown signs of being gifted and thrived when he was given the support he needed like when he needed glasses, took medication for ADHD or when he was a drumming prodigy. When the special attention moves away from lisa you almost always see her react in a way that forces bart to suppress that side of himself.
In my opinion, part of the reason Homer and Marge are so neglectful towards Bart is because he was conceived outside of wedlock. They weren't ready to become parents yet, but they took up the responsibility of giving Bart a stable family situation. Lisa and Maggie were both unexpected pregnancies, but the situation was different for them than it was for Bart. They shower Lisa with so much attention because she showed a level of intelligence that was nurtured in a Simpson way. Bart is more creative in his intelligence. It's how he was able to pull off so many elaborate pranks. He actually gets that creativeness from Homer, who could have become an award winning songwriter with massive royalties come in so that the family wouldn't be on their 6th or 7th mortgage. Homer and Marge focused so much on giving Lisa every opportunity that they subconsciously already put Bart on the side burner and failed to recognize that he can achieve just as much as Lisa, just in a different field.
You know what really made Lisa awful in this moment? Not that she announced her achievement when she did, but the fact she was ANNOYED when Marge asked her to be more considerate to Bart.
Dang, that birthday party scene was rough. What makes the scenes with the family work is that no one is actually malicious, it's just people making compromises.

He’s using a different type of slingshot to what he normally uses.
His grandpa treats him better than his actual parents
Watching the Simpson's now that im older hits different. Theres so many dark and depressing scenes i never knew were dark.
At the beginning Bart was the smartest Simpson. He was unfocused, ignored or neglected. And most of his plots revolved around wasted potential or him not being able to cope with this. Maggie was the talented one. Lisa was the child that was protected and helped into success. This episode captures that.
“I guess the reason I act this way is because mom and homer only stayed with eachother because of me, by being a bad kid they can’t leave eachother.”
I love how its been 30 years and Bart is only 12.
1:47 oh wow, the way Lisa frowned when Marge mentioned it was Barts birthday😒poor Bart😞
It's kinda shitty for Lisa to be mad that Marge pointed out it was Bart's birthday. Lisa could've at least waited instead of stealing the spotlight
“Nope can’t do it my grandfather lives there”
Grandpas are always the best father figures
0:12 me with my mom telling her that she forgot my phone at my dad home and she say that no we getting it tomorrow
its one day w/o your phone youll live

As a child with 5 siblings most of them high achievers i can get the feeling of being neglected and alone but my grandparents where the ones who brought me out of that and I love them.
At least his grandpa cares about him.
Bart father's = no
Bart mother's = no
Bart grandpa = yes
I never really understood bart until this episode..
0:41 _”Gotta leave room in the budget”_ 😂
Good on Grandpa for getting Bart a bike. 🙂
1:48
The way Lisa frowns like she's the one being slighted there...
I like the detail of him wearing his blue earlier design shirt as if the older design was a young bart
I feel bad for Bart, it’s like your parents don’t know your even there! They act like Bart isn’t even their kid!
1:17 the cake number faces away from bart
1:20 the number has been turned around and is now facing bart
Killian Moore 🤯
bruh its double sided
•Sid•The•Serotonin•Kid• How do you know
DAYDAY 2102 most birthday candles are, it would be weird for only one side to see the number
Watching millhouse get tazed was the laugh I didn't know I needed 😂😂😂💥
This is more sad the funny moments.
Honestly this episode isnt bad at all. It's got some funny moments, and feels well written. Far better than any new SpongeBob episode.
And for once it isn't a "lisa is awesome and the greatest" kind of episode.
@@TWhiteTiger Yup!

@@nickyoknickyok4863 Lisa is, why would she talk about being the best student on bart’s birthday if she knows he has a problem with it?
I can relate to bart all the time
Same here. What can you relate to him?
You know what really made Lisa awful in this moment? Not that she announced her achievement when she did, but the fact she was ANNOYED when Marge asked her to be more considerate to Bart.
This must mean that in this year, Homer is 41, Marge is 38, Lisa is 10, and Maggie is 3.
Yes. Exactly.
i would totaly get back to watching the simpsons if they did a whole series like this
The quality is better then my life
1:47 I hate that Lisa gets mad at Marge when she says that it's Bart's birthday. She can't let Bart have the spotlight EVEN ON HIS BIRTHDAY.
Dang, that birthday party scene was rough. What makes the scenes with the family work is that no one is actually malicious, it's just people making compromises.
The world turned their back on Bart when Lisa was born, and Bart turned his back in return. At least his Grandfather understands him.
"My sister was born lucky i was lucky to be born". Bart and Lisa in a nutshell everyone.
Bart: nope can't do it my grandpa lives there
Bart looks more like a teen than me and he’s only 12 lol
First “No more ay caramba” 💀😂
There a little older now
He respects his grandpa enough to not break the light
