  • Throughout our time in Chenyu Vale, we heard about an unnamed god who was the master of the three adepti of the area. In this video, I talk about why I think this unnamed god could be Guizhong, the God of Dust and why she would do what she did.

In this video, I had a bit of trouble giving an exact reason as to why Guizhong would betray Morax. However, I discussed this theory more with Ashikai, and she thought that Guizhong could have pulled a similar move to Andrius or Orobashi. She knew Morax was a better candidate for Archon, so she set up her own death as a sacrifice of sorts.

I would think so too! Not to mention Fujin mentioned Gods going mad for power during the Archon war… making me think of corruption from Forbidden Knowledge. Maybe she thought this would be a reasonable end for her so her friends would have at least thought she put up a fight instead of being willfully ended by Morax. Great video btw. I always thought this unknown God would be Orobashi but this makes a whole lot more sense when observing the scenery and books closely.

The vital piece of lore we dont know is why the archon war was fought, my tin foil theory is that a portion of the gods in the archon war had been changed in some way (possession, corruption, forbidden knowledge) so that they were minions for some other entity. Much like xiao was under the control of one of these gods during the war (that zhongli defeated and set him free) In baizhu's story quest when xiao meets chang sheng they BOTH nod in affirmation to each other.
I dont think guizong in her right mind would EVER kill thousands of people with a flood just to get the better of zhongli, so it either wasnt her, or her will wasnt her own.

@@Necrochaosium Or given the fact that prior the Archon War the Heavenly Principles was almost rendered powerless and had to essentially co-rule with the second throne, I think a part of the reason for the War was to compensate for that. As in what would be more sensible to do before you go into a period of indefinite and inactive rulership - organise a tight system with only a few gods (one per region, to ensure centrality, uniformity and order) or leave hundreds of deities to roam around and do as they please. There would be so many different nations, factions, civilzations of people following their own deity, beliefs and principles.

For those keeping score, the 3 items of the Rite of Parting ceremony performed by Zhongli were a bell created by Guizhong, a perfume that fits the taste of older women and was made of Guizhong's favorite flower, and incense used in Adepti Worship ceremonies, which was received after completing a quest named "Guizhong" which centered on repairing a Guizhong Ballista that was probably made by Guizhong herself and replica Guizhong Ballistas made by copying the newly repaired original Guizhong Ballista were a major part of the climax of the Archon Quest which resulted in Zhongli finalizing his retirement from Archon-hood.

The only reason I could think of Guizhong's betrayal is to push Zhongli to win the archon war in Liyue. It seemed at the start they were only defending against other gods. But maybe Guizhong knew such a tactic would not last long and that of the two of them, only Morax could protect their people to the end.
And interestingly soon after her death, Morax became serious with the war and became decisive in winning it.
The reason why Cloud Retainer and Streetward Rambler weren't able to come immediately might be because she made sure they were far. The two would surely see right through her betrayal and would know she was trying to sacrifice herself.
If Fujin, Herblord, and Lingyuan were her adepti then Guizhong would also know they would be against her plans.
Somehow I'm reminded of Focalors and how she orchestrated her death. Guizhong is wise and love her people, I'm pretty sure everything she does or make always have her people in mind.
Regarding the contracts, I feel the same that Morax started establishing contracts with adepti to prevent betrayals due to Guizhong. In cases of using the people's safety to threaten him like how Guizhong might have done.
Then the chasm people's god. I also shared the same theory. In Stone Tablet Compilation Vol. 1, Guizhong said, "My people left their home and came to this place-" She sounded as if her people had an original place. Then the ancestors of chenyu vale talked about emissaries that might described seelies and Gui is so seelie-coded.
The cleansing bell was focused with Guizhong's death so if she remained inside it, would answer why it can continue to produce melodies for the rite of departing. She's still inside composing melodies.
Anyways I'm obsessed with Guizhong so I really love hearing any lore, takes, theories regarding her. Thank you for your videos, it made me see other things i might miss.

Fujin, Herblord and Lingyuan's story will result in massive timeline problem if Guizhong was truly the Chenyu God.
Based on Mao's recount (from Lingyuan's side) Chenyu God should be alive when the clash between Chenyu Warriors and Millelith happened during the Archon war. The god went mad and trying to wiped off Morax and the Millelith whose stationed around Bishui River.
Millelith was formed only after Zhongli established Liyue harbor, and gave them Lithic weaponry. Guizhong already perished by that time.
Echoes of Artifact lore highlighted Fujin's wish to visit Guili Plains and Liyue Harbor, the adepti of Jueyun prepared a teapot to aid her journey. looks like they made the plan before Chenyu disaster happened (aka b4 the God went mad) and she "perished" as a result of the disaster.
the interesting part, the friendship between the adepti didn't really affected by the Gods they worship (Zhongli is the leader of Jueyun Adepti including Cloud Retainer, While Fujin followed Chenyu God). They literally keep each other's business and rituals separated in their own area. this is maybe the reason why Zhongli left the area alone for a very long time after the god was described to die in a foreign land.
The betrayal, Guizhong's moon motifs actually still perfectly working without connecting her to Chenyu Vale. From the Lantern Rite story it is pretty clear that her bond with Jueyun gang is stronger, and we don't know from where OR why she brought her people to live side by side with Zhongli's people and building a new city called guili assembly.

one weird thing i noticed in chenyus vale main quest, is that when we were near the carp and snake murral, we had to hit a big vase to progress in the story. the thing is once we did it gave us both cor lapis and noctilucous jades. this area doesnt have those minerals anywhere + if cor lapis literally represents morax then noctilucous jade has to represent guizhong. not just by the color palette but also the fact they are found in the chasm too. if this wasnt part of the quest i wouldnt really be looking into it but, considering everything youve just said it does make some sense.

  • @TinkRomero
    @TinkRomero 5 месяцев назад +85

There’s a few things that I noticed that would definitely support your theory.
Firstly, the Simulacrum in Chenyu Vale, the definition of a Simulacrum is the depiction/representation of someone/something else. In Liyue, we see many Statues that are meant to be depictions of their god, Morax. So the Simulacrum in Chenyu Vale are very likely the same, and the depict an owl which should relate to their Gods appearance in some manner.
Owls are wise, and one of Guizhong’s 4 Commandments are “teach with wisdom”. (Which interesting enough may indicate that Guizhong’s alternate form is that of an Owl.)
The main difference between these Simulacrums and Morax Statues is that … Simulacrums are much more mechanical, and if they’re meant to depict Guizhong, whose mechanically genius even surpasses the Adepti Inventress Cloud Retainer, then … this would also make sense. (And also indicates that Guizhong is very likely the one who made the Simulacrum.)
Now, as a God of Dust, her ideal is that of Dust … and I was just wondering … what would an ideal of Dust even be??? So I looked into it and … a main symbolism of Dust is Gods Creation of Mankind … and Guizhong is a genius creator.
A little fun fact that may relate to the Herblord: I came across the name Fuxi in one of the stone tablets in Chenyu Vale, a quick look into the name showed me … (long explanation short) a Chinese Sovereign Deity name Yuxi, who was born with a serpent body. So, now I am wondering if Yuxi was Changsheng’s original name. Plus, in the stone tablet, it said the Yuxi wouldn’t be able to go back to her friends, which could connect to the Herblords defeat by their master.
Edit: I decided to look into Chinese symbolism of Owls and found out that since Owls go “Hu” which means “to dig” in Chinese, that people relate Owls to death … and Zhongli is working as a consultant for a FUNERAL PARLOR under HU TAO, and since HU comes first, Hu Tao’s family is the HU FAMILY. (With this being said, the Chinese characters for Hu in the Hu Family and Hu in “to dig” are different.)
Additional Edit: I should also mention that Owls symbolize many other things, such as a god of war, or a god of lightning/thunder. Mystery, mysticism, secrets, and intelligence. They are called Mao-tou-ying (cat headed hawk) and Xiao (bravery).

4:24 It wouldn’t make sense for Guizhong to do something so bold and aggressive. After all, her closest friends are in Guili Assembly, the place that she herself co-rules. The whole idea of the pledge to Morax was because of humanity

If zhongli and guizhong did fight and resulted in guili assembly collapse (and possibly betrayal from guizhong's end), why zhongli doesn't hate her? Why do her adepti friends still as heartbroken as zhongli is?
There is a voiceline from xianyun that said guizhong was a genius. Genius in a way she has a baffling thought process yet still make sense. This girl is amusing character honestly. I can't wait the archon war lore gets revealed more
Plus I have read something interesting about incense usage in china. In some religion, incense is used to communicate with the god. And some god have their particular fragrance. If you remember the liyue archon quest, zhongli put wild glaze lilly into the incense burner (and pestering us to get the wild one too, he doesn't want the gardened glaze lilly). Did Zhongli try to communicate with guizhong through the incense? One century she was friendly with Morax and the other adepti, the next she was willing to kill her own people by flood, to get the upper hand over Morax? Doesn't make sense.
Or perhaps, she too, just like Orobashi received an offer from The Heavenly Principles that she couldn't refuse. "Either you go impale yourself on the nearest spear willingly, or you get to watch the people you have cared for die. Now choose!"

Still, the god of chenyu vale was at war with Morax, she tried to flood the valley to drown his Millelith stationed downriver, and if Morax lead an army to Chenyu vale, it makes no sense for Cloudretainer to be unaware of him killing Guizhong. I also very much don't like the idea of Guizhong trying to sacrifice her own people, though it was decribed as an act of madness.

In the quest with Soraya and the stone tablets there was this quote "...and there they fought upon the Guili Plains, where black dust choked the heavens and a thousand rocks splintered..." Perhaps black dust meant that Guizhong was already corrupted by that time.

I clicked this video because I was curious as to why Guizhong's presence seems hinted at in these new areas. I'd noticed the abundance of glaze lilies in the new regions, as well as all the mechanical creations and the similar teapot realm. In particular, glaze lilies in the wild are quite rare, and I feel I've seen more in Chenyu Vale than in the rest of Liyue's wilderness. That strikes me as very odd. So, first a compliment: I think that you made a lot of interesting observations in this video. I hadn't noticed a lot of the design similarities in the architecture and appreciated you pointing them out.
However, there are some serious plot holes in this theory:
    1) How does Guizhong lead two totally separate groups of people simultaneously? According to this theory, she'd be the god of Chenyu Vale and the (co-)god of Guili Plains at the same time. The idea of Guizhong having essentially a secret second family just makes zero sense to me.
    2) Why would Guizhong fight Morax? It seems obvious that she would lose, for one thing. But it also goes against all the lore we have of her as a clever alliance-maker.
    3) Why would Guizhong put her own people in harm's way or sacrifice them? This seems completely out of character.
I suppose 2 & 3 could potentially be explained by Guizhong being corrupted by something. It's virtually impossible to imagine her acting that way unless she had totally lost her mind / ethics or was forced. This option is technically possible until Mihoyo gives us a lot more details about her death... but I'm skeptical. The way Zhongli and the other adepti speak about Guizhong doesn't suggest betrayal, or a god who would sacrifice her own people.
Also, that still leaves the first issue I raised. The idea that Guizhong would have two separate groups of followers just seems completely illogical and at odds with all the other god lore we have. The only explanation I can come up with is that the two groups did not exist at the same time. Maybe she first led people in Chenyu Vale, and only after her failed battle against Morax did she make an alliance and go to Guili plains? I feel like the timeline on this doesn't make a lot of sense, though (and did she just leave half her people in Chenyu? seems unlikely). That said, the Archon War timeline is extremely unclear so I suppose it's possible.
Ultimately, I'm not convinced that Guizhong could be the original god of Chenyu Vale because this god's story differs so radically from almost everything we've learned about Guizhong. However, there are enough design similarities and hints here (plus my meta knowledge that Mihoyo loves a wild twist that no one expected), that I can't totally dismiss the possibility. There are still too many mysteries about this era to make many definitive statements.

    • @Aferaline
      @Aferaline 5 месяцев назад

Imo, the timeline was in different phase of Archon War. Fujin befriended Cloud Retainer before the war where she can swam freely braving the waterfall of mt. Aocang. The plan to invite Jueyun Adepti to tea party with herblord also seems like from before Archon war era.
Based on the chalice of the Font, the adepti also wishes for her to visit Guili Plains and Liyue harbor (yeah, the harbor also mentioned in world quest, which means their friendship survives after Guizhong's death, and nothing happened in Chenyu yet)
Archon War ~Liyue Edition~ escalated and reaches the peak after Guizhong's death, which implies that Guili managed to hold the fort for a while before got dragged and annihilated in the war.
Considering that Zhongli became more active in the war after he built Liyue Harbor in order to protect it and established formal contract with the adepti (stationing Millelith in Bishui Rivers area and occasionally clashed with Chenyu Warriors), it is logical for the other Gods in Liyue to be wary of him.. and Chenyu Vale's God went mad will be aligned with this timeline.
We definitely need more detailed timeline for this tho.

there are several glaring plothole(?) and question with this theory :
    1. Sacrifical jade lore literally mentioned that God of Chenyu Vale died in Foreign Land. Guizhong+Morax alliance will automatically make both Chenyu Vale and Guili their territory. and Guizhong died in Liyue area.
    2. Why Zhongli let Chenyu Vale "rot" when he evacuated his people from flooded Guili Plains? Guizhong's people should become his, too. especially when it is explained in the Stone tablet compilation that Guizhong brought her people to the Guili Plains. Why the need to "evacuate" And build new city in Guili when Chenyu is pretty much fine with Herblord and Fujin's hard work?
    3. Zhongli didn't immediately assume the guardianship of Chenyu Vale until the people scattered everywhere. he put all of his resources into guarding Liyue Harbor. his contract is to protect Liyue Harbor. Why did he ignore Chenyu Vale when it potentially became part of his land when Guizhong died? they are former allies.
    4. If Guizhong is Chenyu's adepti's master, why didn't she ask Zhongli to illuminate Fujin and Herblord? Zhongli is not really stingy with knowledge and The Mighty and Illuminated Adepti of Jueyun are stronger than Fujin (based on her remark about true adepti).
    5. Why did Guizhong stay and put her strength into raising her people in Guili Plains and merge with Zhongli's (who definitely lived around mt.Tianheng with his people and taught adepti at Jueyun Karst). is there any need to separate chenyu people from her people in Guili? both civilizations are running simultaneously based on Fujin's story of befriending Cloud Retainer (before Archon War).

Very interesting theory. But, if Guizhong was really the original God of Chenyu Vale, I don't think Guizhong was ruled over the Chasm before. Because Fujin and the gang are natives of Chenyu Vale, so their master too. They lived in Chenyu Vale for thousand of years until humans came and resided in Qiaoying Village, thus they were fond of humanity and started to make relationships with humans.
In comparison, I also watched a theory about Fujin's master is could be Orobashi. We can read in Genshin's wiki that Orobashi could not defeat Deus Auri or the golden god and fled from Teyvat. And Deus Auri is another Zhongli name that was confirmed in Neuvillette's voice line about the Geo Archon. As a huge snake, flooding the Bushui River would make it easier for Orobashi to swim to Guili Plains and attack Zhongli and his people.

The theory is good but severely implied that Guizhong literally abandoned Chenyu Vale when she brought her people to create Guili Assembly (which is not matched with her personality) and left the area Godless when the war happened. Her 4 commandments are for Guili, her research was kept in Sea of Clouds, her best friends are Jueyun Adepti, while Chenyu lost everything.
Both Guizhong + Morax were ally at that time but if the Chenyu Adepti are her servants, there will be no reason for adeptal art imbalance with Jueyun Adepti because Morax will also take Fujin and Herblord as his disciple (Fujin didn't seem to use sigil. The adeptal power was stored in simulacras, and she is not privy to subspace creation).
Guizhong also the social type and often invites adepti to the gathering, but no Chenyu Adepti mentioned, Fujin IS a good friend of Cloud Retainer and Mt. Shaper, which made it weirder. Fujin never able went to Guili Plains and Liyue Harbor (harbor was built after Guizhong's death) even though the teapot to carry her is ready.
    And the last thing is..
Zhongli and Jueyun Adepti evacuated guili people real quick after the flood (yes, Guizhong's people too) and built Liyue Harbor, while his influence entered Chenyu Vale much later in the war when the Chenyu people reduced to little tribes and Fujin went MIA 😢. Why the blatant discrimination when Guizhong still counted as his and Jueyun adepti's friend even after her death. (For reference, He left whatever happened at Sal Terrae alone because he has no connection to Havria but still accepted her people regardless).
Guizhong as the God of Chenyu Vale also defeated the purpose of creating Guili Assembly as a CITY because Chenyu was not under any threat before archon war and could sustain on their own with the God and her adepti follower.
Stone tablet compilation recorded that Guizhong brought her people to the north of Mt. Tianheng and they are content in their new home. Why left Chenyu(?). Why Guizhong wishes for a new city?

One interesting thing i find about Guizhong is despite being a god of dust, which should’ve themed more to either earth or wind, Guizhong’s colorscheme and things related to her, like glaze lily, seems to be themed to moon. I think someone made a video about Guizhong’s possible connection to moon or seelie? (I think it was Ashikai?). While to moons supposedly had died, and we dont know when Guizhong was born, i wonder if she was born from the remains of the moon sisters (I think there’s a greek god born from remains of old gods, she’s probably just like that). Maybe the dusts she was god of was actually the dust of the moon instead of earth. Not trying to ship here, but if she’s really related to moon, it made her dynamic with zhongli far more interesting. Zhongli was theorized to be connected with sun, so they are like earth/sun-moon, rock-dust, which basically both being companions and antithesis of each other. I wonder if Zhongli met Guizhong because he followed the traces of the fallen moon sisters, which he witnessed when he was young and found Guizhong.

Fujin mentioned the Harbor (jueyun gang told her about their new city) in world quest, meaning that she still serving her God in Chenyu after Guizhong's demise and Zhongli built the harbor. Echoes of an offering implied that she already befriended jueyun adepti before the disaster of archon war.

There’s a lot of contraptions that remind me of gueizhong as another tinkerer like cloud retainer. I think her death was brought about by the erosion morax talks about and is troubled by.

    • @Aferaline
      @Aferaline 5 месяцев назад +2

Memory of Dust clearly stated that there is no formal contract between Guizhong & Zhongli. Guizhong approached him and they agree to made alliance. Guizhong brought her people to build a new city together with Zhongli in Guili Plains. At this time. Fujin should already served the Chenyu God, and there is no threat for Chenyu before archon war while Guizhong seems like she brought refugees from somewhere and choose to work with another (stronger) god.
Fujin is actually the crucial point to the plot. Her friendship with Jueyun Adepti is not related at all to the Gods they worship. Guizhong is the visionary type of person, she will definitely seek to improve the power of her servants.
If Fujin & Herblord are her servants she will definitely allow them to take the trial of Heaven and Earth, a SYSTEM of reaching the path of adepti established by the Jueyun group. Cloud Retainer readily provide her floating abode as a testing ground when Zhongli gave his consent (his Taishan Mansion was the place for earth trial). GUIZHONG & Ping happily supporting this decision. as the God of Chenyu, why she meddling around with Jueyun Adepti cultivation system but not giving Chenyu the same chance?. There was a power and knowledge difference between both (acknowledged by Fujin herself)
Fujin IS a good friend of Cloud Retainer to the point of her wish to invite CR & MS to her tea party and Ping even gifted her a teapot to help the travelling plan to Guili Plains AND Liyue Harbor (yes, harbor). This friendship started b4 the war (Guizhong lived in Guili) and abruptly cut sometimes after the establishment of Liyue Harbor (AFTER Guizhong's death). So based on Fujin's story (and the most logical reason why Cloud Retainer invited her to the harbor), the Chenyu Flood was not happening until Zhongli built the harbor and stationing millelith around Bishui River.
Goddess of Chenyu Vale died in another land, Guizhong died in Liyue area. Why Guili Plains area (and Cuijue Slope nearby) counted as another land when it should be their territory?

So the Chenyu Vale god, which is also Guizhong in your theory. Was ruling Chenyu, but also spending her time ruling Guili and hanging out with Rex Lapis' Adepti instead of her own adepti, then she's desperate to win the war (according to Fujin) and returned back to Chenyu to flood the river, after that she came back down to Guili to be killed by Morax?
    what a busy god.
She enlisted another god to protect her people because she's aware of the gulf in their power... but at the same time, she multi-tasked ruling 2 areas? Why not she asked her trio adepti to help with Guili? If she could freely hang out with the Jueyun Karst adepti, then why did Fujin need a teapot given by Ping to visit them? Why not Guizhong just take the carp with her?
You're desperate to make relevant, you destroy her character and lore. You need to accept that none of Xianyun's character nor the new area mention anything significant of her.

Yeah, the inconsistency with the timeline and the basic reason of the establishment of Guili Assembly is the biggest plothole in this theory.
The discrimination is pretty bad for Chenyu Adepti because even though Guizhong made alliance with Rex Lapis, Fujin and Herblord was never get illumination and learn Sub Space creation like the Jueyun gang 😢. And Fujin is actually friend with the Jueyun Gang... Why the different treatment?

I have a question that is Xiao and other yakshas also served under this 'evil archon' (Guizhong according to your theory)? Since Xiao's signature weapon has obviously the same design as jade cutter.
And about Guizhong's ability, according to the world quest, the archon of Chenyu Vale had some certain authority dealing with 'dreams' if I'm remembering correctly. And we also know that the people of Chenyu Vale were able to connect with Celestia which means Guizhong might be one of the Seelies (we can also see that Guizhong has that blinky paimon effect when she walks from last year's LR cutsene).

You so bad at lore information that's ridiculous. The first thing about Guizhong that you should always mention is "Memory of Dust". She obviously was scared of Morax(his powers) and if they will fight she'll lose immediately. THAT'S WHY SHE WANT TO BE ALLY NOT AN ENEMY WITH HIM . Morax smart and powerful, Guizhong only smart. She pretty well knew that situation in world is dangerous (before the Archon War there were many battles between the Demon-gods). Therefore, she needed a protector in the person of Morax for her people. And just reading the lore of the Adepti of the Jueyun Karst, think how stupid your theory about the betrayal of Guizhong sounds.
Chenyu's Vale Goddes was Changsheng (her melody(theme) playing in Yaodie Valley) Or maybe not . But it's definitely not Guizhong.

I think this person tried so hard to connect Guizhong to Chenyu Vale. He heard a "former master" and instantly thinks it is Guizhong and making proof using the usual fanon misconception of her. Take Cuijue Slope for example, he failed to mention that Zhongli created the monument so that the next generations remember the horror of war and not once mentioned about it for Guizhong. Also using the legend of Gallant Heart, so he wants to say that Guizhong is a blood-thirsty individual that mercilessly killed Mililleth? Yeah. Not gonna let that woman anywhere near Zhongli now, She is a bad influence (this is a joke btw)

Personally, I do subscribe to the theory that Guizhong died there, and I think it's very likely that that's _why_ the Nine Pillars of Peace were built there, in her memory, as she was the god who wanted peace the most. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's never said who built the pillars, is it? Only why they were built. I'm not saying it wasn't Zhongli, but the inscription on the tablet reads more like it was written by a human to me.

The inscription thus implores any who would break the seal to take the treasures within and defend Liyue"
That's from the wiki and remember, to unlock the nine pillars, 9 stone of rememberance needs to be gathered from the Geo Archon statue hence the believe he's the one who built it. It's close than saying the place is for Guizhong because a weapon says "black dust" and she's goddest of dust, therefore the place is connected to her because the sky is black.
Nothing about her memory when the monument is talking about 9 human desires at bay. You can headcanon that place as her tomb but it's merely a fan theory that has no connection with her unless you twist certain lore and make them about her. how about the dark sky? Wuwang Hill has a permanent dark sky too, add that we have places like Guyun Stone Forest and Chi of the Qingce where bigger, even more dangerous gods are sealed yet no enviromental hazard where shown there.
