    To improve the taste I would really recommend to mix in the soya sauce with some honey or sugar and the vinegar and garlic all together and then mix it up on a high heat

    You may don’t like how her meals look and whatever but you cannot disagree that Kay is doing her videos with such honesty and passion that it’s just heartwarming.

    Upd: Okay, let's be honest. I came on this channel like week ago to have my minute of laughter. Not to write any bad comments or something. Just for a laugh. But than I felt empathy for this women since to me she seemed like a lonely person and doing her videos just for herself, you know. Some people are having really boring life, especially aged ones. I've seen her dislikng the feedback she recieves and was thinking something like "Well, they(Kay and her son) seem to enjoy it so why do people even bother?" . But I didn't know that she acutally falsely copyrighting people. And I mean I can understand this. Though not approving it. Maybe she's feeling attacked by the bad feedback or videos(let's be honest most of those are about making fun of her) or something. Firstly I wrote this comment to cheer her up, but now... I don't even know anymore man...
    (Also maybe that's not her but her son who's copyrighting other ppl I don't know still pretty bad)

    Kay,
    Hello from Tokyo.
    I have some questions about your teriyaki chicken.
    1. Why didn’t you coat the chicken in a starch?
    2. Why are you using garlic?
    3. Where did you get your recipe?
    Please redo this video with THIS basic Japanese recipe.
    Ingredients:
    Chicken thigh (bite-size) 100-200 grams.
    Potato starch (or corn if you can’t get potato) 1 tablespoon
    Soy sauce 2 tablespoons.
    Mirin 2 tablespoons
    Cooking sake 1 tablespoon
    Sugar 1 tablespoon
    Vegetable oil 1 tablespoon
    Directions:
    1. Place the chicken in a ziplock bag.
    2. Add the starch and close the bag.
    3. Shake the bag so the starch coats the chicken.
    4. Warm the frying pan.
    5. Place the oil in the frying pan.
    6. Place the chicken in the frying pan. Cook 3-4 minutes per side. (It should look golden brown, if it looks more gray than brown it’s ok. It means the chicken wasn’t coated with enough starch.)
    7. Add the sake, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar.
    8. Cook until the sauces thicken and coat the chicken.
    9. Plate, top with kewpie mayonnaise, and enjoy.
    Kay, you’re a lovely person making fabulous attempts at cooking. I think you need to change where you get your recipes from.

Your food is not great, everyone knows that, the funny aspect is how bad it's, that's the essence of your channel.       @@itsweb1584 I’m commenting on teriyaki sauce in general. Also, if you look at the consistency of the soy sauce it must be sweetened. Sweetened soy sauce is the closest thing to teriyaki sauce if you don’t have it.

    Please tell me that this channel is a joke. It is too painful to see how these meat are wasted. To make Teriyaki Chicken (鶏の照り焼き), first, fry the chicken and added the sauce. Then wait until the water in the sauce (soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar) to evaporate and the sauce sticks to the chicken.
    PS: I am Asian.

    Kay, please don't strike Deadwing Dork anymore, if it was actually you doing it. All of his fans love you, and you bring a bit of happiness to him and us when he watches your videos to take the edge off as he trudges through the worst scum on the internet. None of us have an ounce of malice or dislike for you in any form, and when the things he looks at get a bit too dark, we often urge him to switch to your videos for a few minutes so we can have something heartwarming and wholesome to remind us that the world's not all bad.

    Hey Kay, I'm not sure if you had a recipe for this one but teriyaki chicken is sweet. I'm sure it would have had sugar in the recipe. I know sometimes you don't want to follow a recipe because you don't think it will work, but please try to follow all the steps. A lot of the time you don't think something will work but it is a vital part of the dish. Thanks for another vid though :) always good to see you upload

    Always have the oil heated up before putting in the meat. This way the meat will seer and the juices of the chicken won't leak out like it did :)

    Kay you need to marinate the chicken in the soy sauce for at least 30 minutest so that the chicken will absorb the flavor. Next, drain the soy sauce from the chicken and heat up the oil in the pan. Don't put the chicken in before the pan is hot, othwerwise the chicken will "boil" and taste like boiled chicken and will not not brown. The browning of the chicken is important in developing flavor. Add the garlic and lower the heat so that the garlic will not burn. Cook until garlic is just brown. Add some broccoil and cook until broccoli is tender crisp. Add some water and beef stock mixed with corn starch to create a slurry, so that the sauce will be thick. Add some sugar and sesme oil, and taste. Adjust flavor to suit your taste. Serve with steamed rice.

      @@aarons6935 Not really. I stripped it down to the basics: soy and sugar, which are the two most important ingredients to create the sweet and salty taste, typical of Japanese cooking. Chicken teriyaki does not use many ingredients. Ginger and mirin could also be added, but it wouldn't fundamentally improve the basic recipe.

    Loved the 'How?!' so much! My suggestion would be that the flavour got kinda washed off at the end with the water (and I really wonder why it was there in the original recipe). If you ever want to give this another try, I'd suggest to use a hotter pan and not crowd it so much (maybe use only half the chicken), that way you may get it to fry and go brown, this time it looked like it was poached in its juices maybe? Make sure to remove excess liquid. For the sauce, I would add some mirin or sugar to the soy sauce to help it caramelize and use enough to coat all of the chicken. Pour that onto the chicken, fry until the liquid is gone (careful, soy sauce burns easily). That way some of the taste should stick to the chicken.

    The reason that it didn't have any taste is because too little sauce was added. That much chicken would require 3-4 times the amount of sauce. I would recommend using a supermarket teriyaki sauce, which will give it the sweetness that watered down soy sauce cannot.

      No just add sugar, that's how you make Teriyaki. Sake, soy sauce and sugar. It's a process, you add the sake (and mirin which is sweetened sake but you can omit it) when the chicken is just over half cooked, the soy sauce at the 3/4 stage, and last the sugar to thicken it.

    If you dint crowd the pan you can get a little brown char on the chicken. Doesnt make a massive difference but it does make a noticeable one. When the chicken is over crowded water forms at the bottom of the pan preventing the browning.

    Try this..1 large chicken cut up...1 cup soy sauce..1 1/4 cup sugar...1 tsp oyster sauce...1 tsp mirin ( sweet sake)...1 clove garlic chopped...1 small piece ginger chopped... 1/4 cup sake or sherry...mix and soak chicken for 15 minutes place in pan and roast at 375 degrees F for 1 hour...baste often

    As a chef in a Japanese restaurant, whose specialty dish is teriyaki chicken, and who trained for a year in Japan to hone this dish - that is definitely how we make it.

    Kay the pan and a tiny bit of oil should be screaming hot before you add the chicken. That way it's sealed and not just soaking up the fat. Too many times have I seen people making a 'stir fry' when they glug extra virgin olive oil (cos it's healthy right ;) ) and then dump all their stuff into a cold pan with cold oil. All it's doing is making everything greasy and nasty. When it's really hot it cooks quickly and doesn't absorb all the oil. Just a thought ;)

    So you see the gloppy water around your chicken...drain that stuff off before adding your flavours, and DOUBLE your flavours. Also dont burn the garlic, thats another flavour loss

    Kay, an easy way to make garlic very fine is sprinkling some course salt over the the garlic first then pushing and dragging with the side of your knife, it makes it into a sort of paste that combines with the meal a lot nicer!
