If Charles wasnt hurt, he likely goes down as the best. He was holding the highest ypc until his last season where he tried playing hurt and it sank his overall stats. He was significantly better than Holmes, Holmes ran behind one of the most legendary OL's in history, Charles had one of the worst in the league and still averaged over 5 ypc. He was the ONLY weapon on the team and everyone knew he was running the rock, and they still couldnt stop him.
I remember that Priest was a Chief, but had no idea he was this formidable. Thanks for giving credit where credit is due. I hope he had as successful a career after the injury cut his magnificent years of dominance short. Well done sir....
To answer the video title of "the most dangerous running back in NFL history" the answer is obviously O.J. Simpson. Maybe not the best, but definitely the most dangerous.
Remember Ray lewis said Holmes was top Rb hands down when playing with Kc. That oline was special! Never seen or see big guys run blocking down field. Check out some of that old footage! Watch Holmes move when they move! Just like that....smashing DT LB throwing DB
Been a Chiefs season ticket holder since 98 so I was at all those games. So many good memories. Also gotta give props to the Oline, one of the best of all time: Shields, Roaf, Waters, Weigmann & Tait. And can't forget Tony Richardson one of the best FB's leading the way for Priest. Priest's ability to read his blocks was on a different level & he had all pro-bowl maulers opening up holes
Priest had incredible patience for blocking development, vision and insane lateral movement. But that 2000s Chiefs O-Line was CRAZY. Also Larry Johnson put up those numbers while only starting NINE GAMES 🤯 had he started all 16 he would’ve for sure set the single season rushing yards record 💯
I’m glad and appreciate u spoke on how good Priest was…I’m a Washington commander(redskins fans) and in Clinton portis career when healthy he was in the top 5 atleast in rushing and got snubbed a few times ..I think the RB is gettin devalued and alot of players has been unappreciated in their careers
Shoutout to Joe Delaney -- another Chief great with a career (and heroically, his life) cut short! The Priest years were special. Our defense couldn't stop a nose bleed if you gave them 10 lbs of gauze and 20 minute head start in those years.
First of all if Barry had Emmitt's O'line , and offense he would be on another level and multi championship ring wearer if he had that offense. Secondly Barry barely got into playoffs as much as Emmitt did and retired early. Barry made the most of a bad situation with the Lions, I wish he got out sooner, many fans did but he stayed with Detroit which a bad move on his part but an honorable one for those times .
I agree, Holmes racked up all the fantasy points when that began years ago. He did it consistently for some years too. He was the stud Rb in the NFL. He was a top Ten all time Rb. But he wasn’t Walter P, OJ, Barry or even Earl. But he was a beautiful back to watch run like my favorite, G. Sayers. Holmes was in his time period the most dominant Rb in the NFL
As chiefs fan, Holmes was incredibly fun to watch. I think he should be in the HOF. I wonder if he burned too bright. Maybe voters blame him for having an amazing O-line
This video was very well done. The 2000s truly was the golden era for backs. When I watch CMC play today , he reminds me of Marshall Faulk and LT from that time. He’s a throwback to 20 years ago, in a sense. If running backs were as valued today as they were then, Christian McCaffrey would’ve won MVP this past season, and in my view, should have..
Ya know, sometimes you have a running back who is just THAT GUY. And this imo is not one of those times. The Chiefs had the best oline in the league in the early 2000s and it stayed that way for a while. Larry Johnson followed the Priest years with consecutive 1700 yard seasons. The next year, in 07, the line fell apart and Larry and Priest together combined for 700 yards. The special ones: AP, Jamaal Lewis, CMC, they get it done whether there's studs around them or not. Priest had an amazing run, but was NOT that guy on his own.
Priest Holmes was such a BEAST with the Chiefs after winning a Super Bowl Ring with the Ravens in 2000's but he should be in the Hall Of Fame no doubt about it
priest actually brought tears to my eyes when he first came to KC i remember an early game against the pats that he brought us back in the 4th quarter when running the ball was a bit of a surrender but holmes blew up. The Chiefs lost but it was a coming out party.
There was that Jerry Rice guy that broke the heretofore impossible touchdown record set by Jim Brown. But yeah Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders for me. OJ would probably be right there if he wasn't a murderer. As a Catholic, I can't look past that.
Great upload bro! I’m thankful as a Chiefs fan to be able to witness Holmes magnificent runs… he was unstoppable! And even in the old madden I’d play my brother in and he could never stop Holmes. The man was a beast ❤️😊
It should be noted that Dick Vermeal’s offenses produced prolific seasons for both Marshall Faulk and Priest Holmes. Not taking away, but a nod should be given to how prolific his designs were
Holmes also had a legendary OL. Jamaal Charles was far more impressive running behind one of the worst OL's in the league and still averaged over 5 ypc.
Great video ! IMO he should definitely be in the HOF ! I know he was a BEAST because I ALWAYS managed a way to get him on my fantasy league team ! I was loaded a couple years I had him, Faulk, Tori Holt, Andre Johnson and Peyton at QB
It was nuts! He played second fiddle to Ricky Williams at the University of Texas, was under utilized in Baltimore, then he EXPLODED with the Chiefs. Then he was done. Such a roller coaster of a career. Plus, he always seemed like a great guy!
He had a late start and an early end to his career. A phenomenal stretch, but I don’t think he makes it that the hall of fame. Longevity is definitely not a defining characteristic, but you need more than 4 years of HOF play.
I worked at Arrowhead in 2003 and he was really fun to watch. his OL may have been one of the best OL's that great RB's ran behind. I sometimes wonder what a player like Jamaal Charles would have done in that offense as he was the only weapon in KC and everyone knew he was getting that ball and somehow he still leads all RB's in YPC
And I think it’s a crime that running backs are undervalued these days. Only a few teams really feature the running back, and those teams are usually consistently good. The running back should be valued, they should be used more often and they should go back to running the ball like they dated in the early 2000s. Who doesn’t love a great running game? I know passing is the name of the game today but after a while it gets boring honestly. I prefer well balanced attack but a great running back is so much fun to watch and teams can really grind out and demoralize the other side by running the ballso they should really stop the valuing the running back it’s a damn shame.
Great video. I love priest but you gotta remember that line he was running behind had 3 hall of famers and a probowl center. But yes Baltimore definitely underutilized holmes.
Shaun alexander played the two worst run defenses in 4 games. 20 of his TDs were against the bottom defenses. He was totally nutralized against above average teams. Plus it was an isolated season.
Holmes used to CARRY those teams in games, one after another. He was the ONLY reason KC was ever a contender in those years. Too bad they threw away his career with a lack of wins when it counted. Truly, we miss him here.
Great video! I remember watching him when I was younger and thinking he might be the greatest back ever, only for it to be cut short. Again, great video...but please don't ever pose the question of who is the best running back in NFL history, and not mention Walter Payton and Jim Brown
From a managerial standpoint it’s worth paying a top 5 or even top 10 running back good money but just not guaranteed money for multiple year contracts. It’s just such a risky position with so many injuries and super short career spans on average.
Barry was one of the most explosive backs of all time. He was a threat to take it to the house whenever he touched the ball. The most explosive was Gale Sayers. He had many, many long runs.
Holmes had a great run but he also had an incredible O-line, best in the league during his tenure. Will Shields, & Roaf? That was a potent offense too.
Dude, Priest was amazing. Great video. Yes Barry was all that but Priest did some things that Barry didn't touch. We don't have to take away from Barry to acknowledge the Greatness of Priest. He always worked on Sundays!
As a r9ers fan - a Rams hater - Marshall Faulk is the most dangerous all around HB in the NFL. Running. Catching. Blocking. "Never" fumbling. Not just catching a screen either, Faulk caught passes all over the field like a WR. If you make an all-time team, Faulk would prove to be the best back on the roster.
Before I continue with the video, let me just say that running backs deserve so much more credit than what they are given these days. I'm having such a hard time with my top 3 let alone top 5. And I believe that running backs transcend ages. Derrick Henry and Barry Sanders could swap places and both would still dominate.

Chiefs have had some pretty amazing RB's over the years. Jamaal Charles was another stud.

Another great back from U of Texas
He still has the highest ypc of anyone @@dalehammers4425
Priest was cold even back at the University of Texas. Unfortunately, another generational talent was there also, Ricky Williams.
Don't forget now...Priest was held out of his Junior season at Texas due to ACL tear in spring practice. That's why Ricky had to step up.
Jamal charles came from texas
If Terrell Davis got into the HOF, then Holmes deserves a spot, too.
Dude, Holmes was AMAZING
Far from the best though
