Wow,..!!! You are awesome . I can not thank you enough for taking the time out in your life to video and explain how to do this !! You saved me hundreds of dollars and now I can even hand adjust my headlights with the screw. I wish there was more people like you in the world,..you are a blessing !!!! THANK YOU !!!!!!!
Thank you for making this video and thank Brutal for coming up with it. You saved me $1400 bucks at the stealership! The headlights STILL auto level on start-up even after you do this mod. I would suggest a 1 inch non-tapered screw. I used a 1.25" and had almost too much sticking out. I was still able to close the hood w/o contact.
Yes, thank you for this video! My headlights (left and right) both broke on the tiniest, slightest pressure when attempting to install Xenon bulbs. The plastic was too old, aged and extremely brittle. They both broke on the post underneath the adjustment knob. This fix worked great for me. I would warn others that there is no adjustment to be made if your plastic mounts broke where mine did. However, you can hold the lights where you need them and pin them back with the screw.
thanks for posting this, it really helped being able to visualize what needs to be done. I've been aware of the fix for some time, but a little reluctant to give it a go. this made me go out and do it, and it's worked like charm. thank you again!
I went out and did this and it worked GREAT! I think the big thing is if they droop this will fix it. After 2 years the left one is fixed now. This is awesome. The right light I had my mechanic install a used light I got off eBay. They set it up and it has been too far up for over a year. I got it to go down so I think I am set. I will fine-tune when it gets dark.
Thanks from me as well. I did this fix and it worked brilliantly. My only moan was having to take the whole front of the car off to change the xenon bulbs as the rear of the headlamp unit is unaccessible with out removing the unit which meaens major surgery. Big labour cost, big bulb cost and ludicrous Jaguar design....for owners! Buyers beware!
Great video thank you I’ve just did the same repair on my S type . Only difference I did was that I used slightly longer screws and managed to close the gap 👌👌👌
This fix works on a 2000-2002 s-type as well. However you need to move the drill location over slightly and i added a side screw to secure the L-R aim (pull both lights back to center). Thanks ! It works!
This guy Brutal is an FN genious. I did the screw trick and it works perfectly. Both my lights were loose. Self leveler still worked but the lights pointed to the ground. Now they work perfect! One question to anyone out there, especially Brutal. Do you think the screw might eventually break the plastic piece it's digging into? Or should I do like another person did, crazy glue a nut to front of hole, and then thread a flat bolt through? Seems less likely to crack plastic.
My light moves in both directions , will this method work on my HID lights ? Please respond as I need to do this asap . Also don't you need to turn lights on to see how much to screw in also it looks like you used a machine screw ? Did you seal the opening to prevent fog ?
after less than a week, after the screw mod, the self leveling stoped working, when I switch igniton on lights no longer sweep and both beams are in the pointed down position. Any ideas or a way to test the self leveling? or a fix?
Hate to tell you but most new cars are like this now. I've actually replaced bulbs on the new CTS and a Saturn Aura and both had to have the front bumper removed to replace the headlights. Both people were quoted over 200 just to replace the headlight bulb and they were not HID so they were standard $20 bulbs. It's just the way cars are being engineered now.
Going to try this, by using a #8 1 inch pan-head metal screw. 2005 diesell anybody had any problems does the self leveling still work I would suggest a little siliconcom on the tread to keep it water tight. Thanks for the information..any more tips for S-type owners
It's a 1 inch self tapping screw if I remember correctly. It was a while ago when I did this and sadly no longer have the car anymore. The area in the video that I screw it into is between the high and low lights. You should be able to see it pretty clear where to put it in at.
In a short answer no. To remove the lens the whole assembly needs to be removed which requires removing the front bumper cover and then once you have the whole assembly out, they have to be heated up to loosen the glue and then pulled apart gently.
I have a 2004 and I am going to try this. The dealer wanted $3500 for new lights and my local mechanic can't fix it either. I have one pointing to the ground and another pointing up too much. I am going to try it since I cannot make it worse.
Guys u can buy on eBay jaguar s type head light adjustment. Take the head light off. Strip down and change adjustments. They suffer with adjustment breaking. Very easy to change them.
Doggy repair.go and buy on eBay jaguar s type head light adjustments and repair properly. Water will leak throw. Hate when people cut corners and try to fuck up everything.
Aleksandre Kublashvili This repair is for the housing that commonly cracks. It has nothing to do with the adjusters. You have to replace the whole assembly when this breaks. This is a repair done by a certified Jaguar mechanic that has done this to thousands of headlights with no issues. I never had a single issue with water in the headlight. There is a rubber trim piece that covers where the screw goes. The hood covers all of that. Not sure where the water would get in. If someone is that afraid water would get in just shoot some sealant on the screws.

I did the passenger side of my 2004 S type a couple of years ago and the driver's side today. This is a great tip that works 100%.

Thanks so much to you for this and for Brutal and Co. for the posts on Jaguarforums - you are an absolute star thank you, thank you, thank you!
I can't believe you made this video miracle for me just amazing, I have a 04 s-type R and have this issue
thanks for posting this, it really helped being able to visualize what needs to be done. I've been aware of the fix for some time, but a little reluctant to give it a go. this made me go out and do it, and it's worked like charm. thank you again!
Thank you! It looks simple enough that I'm going to attempt it myself! I've been driving around way too long with droopy headlights.
took literally 2 minutes to do, cant believe it. brilliant.
Did this last week on my '03 S-Type-R. Worked perfectly and fixed my headlights. The auto-leveler kicks in now that it has something to push against.

Awesome, thanks for this video! My used str already has a screw in it, so looks like it just needs some fine tuning to the correct beam level.

THANKS IT SAVED ME $ THAT FIXED IT GOOD!!
Hi, nice video! Now do i have to first get a drill bit and drill or i can drill just with the screw?
Great mod!!!! Dealership fixed mine under select edition warranty... but that's kool

I see that engine! I see what your working with, cobra supercharged baby, I have same model I have British racing green.
THANKS!!!
@tednugentlives No problem. Thanks for the info about the other years. Thats good to know.
@ross1961 No problem glad it helped you out.
Do the self adjusters work after this or are they fixed in place and can they be aligned afterwards? And thanks for saving me $1199.47!
Is it possible to just change the plastic part of the headlight verses the entire unit? Thank you!
after less than a week, after the screw mod, the self leveling stoped working, when I switch igniton on lights no longer sweep and both beams are in the pointed down position.

What kind of screw did you use? I couldn't see exactly where the screw is supposed. to touch. Pls help, Thanks
INCREIBLE
Hemos ahorrado unos 1200 € que pedian en Jaguar por el recambio original y la mano de obra. MUCHAS GRACIAS

great video, I have a different issue.. is there an easy way to remove the lens covers?
In a short answer no. To remove the lens the whole assembly needs to be removed which requires removing the front bumper cover and then once you have the whole assembly out, they have to be heated up to loosen the glue and then pulled apart gently.
@nixxnixxnixx They will still adjust after this fix.
Ok did the screw mod, and it works fine, the auto level works fine.
Only question has anyone had an MOT with the srew in place
can someone tell me how to change the fuel pump on 2000 jaguar s-type 6cylinder
This didnt work on mu s type. Were your adjusters broken on the low beam side. Mines is.
I have a 2004 and I am going to try this. The dealer wanted $3500 for new lights and my local mechanic can't fix it either. I have one pointing to the ground and another pointing up too much. I am going to try it since I cannot make it worse.

The adjustments were not what was broken. It's the assembly within the housing. The adjustments still work when this happens.
Can you send me the exact link or info on eBay for the light?
Thanks in Advance
Fixing Drooping Headlights on 2003 S type R Jaugar
Now your head lights will be foggy soon
mines been done for 5 years with no problems
Doesn't affect how they will fog. If they fog they were already going to fog. HID lights are vented to minimize the inside from condensating.
Fit the new adjuster in instead make that rubbish think.
