Yea it will be based on the true story for sure. Fighting in the Varangian guard and later being the last king.
Very impressed with this series. One of the best I've seen in a long time. I liked the original, but I think this one is more 'grounded'. I love Viking history, so it's interesting to see how they include the Byzantine/Rus angle. All the characters, including the more minor ones, are outstanding. Loved Miriam as a character. An excellent book on the Rus Vikings is "The River Gods". BTW I am well aware of the license taken with actual history. As an adventure story it is very engaging.

All of these shows need to dial back on the ceremonial angles. They spend way too much time on religious angles. We don't need to see full sermons. Weddings, burials, sacrifices, rituals, etc. They get OLD.
Ni se acerca a vikings. La temporada 1 estuvo buena, pero la temporada 2 dejó mucho que desear, no estuvo a la altura de las expectativas. Pulgar pata abajo.

I disagree. Both seasons were good.
Vikings valhalla ( actually it´s valhöll ot valhall in old norse) is ok, not as well produced as the Vikings, sometimes bad CGI but overall ok .
What irritates me a bit is that the actors are models, way to good looking in a typical "soap opera way" and that they keep on like....remember we are vikings, a viking would never do that, be proud of being a viking etc etc etc.
"Viking" is not a certain group of people, it´s something you do, like raiding, let´s go raiding, let´s go viking.
Being Scandinavian i just find these "hollywood vikings" entertaining :D
And Haralds surname is Hårdråde....not Hardrada :D Hårdråde means "Harshruler" or close. And who is Canute????...lol, it´s KNUT! .
The show has all the big budget crap and battles. But from a historic standpoint it is pure trash.
As a Man of Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian ancestry I am disheartened that they sacrificed amazing stories
that actually happened just so they can check off boxes on their ridiculous woke checklist. And the sad part is that if they just stuck
to history, paying particular attention to Harald, then they'd have all the diversity they could want. Cuz that Man
went EVERYWHERE as a Mercenary. Don't even get me started on Hakon Jarl & what they did to his legacy.
Although license is taken with the history (b/c Leif & Freydis do predate Harald, by lots of years), the show takes such an interesting turn by bringing in the Rus Vikings and the Byzantine angle. I think the story telling is still good. I have read about every book on Viking history and archaeology and I still find the series compelling storytelling. Sometimes a program like this piques the interest of viewers to go looking for more information and the actual history lessons. Why the 'woke checklist' whine? There is much evidence regarding the interactions between the Vikings & the Near East, Central & possibly East Asian cultures via artifacts (Islamic dirhams, buddhist items, coins from India etc). There is the account of the muslim traveler, Ahmad ibn Fadlan, who traveled to Scandinavia. There is more mixing than you might imagine with these intrepid people.

Velhala is no match to viking , freydis role is really boring moreover the actress is not fit for the role , this series is not up to expectations really disappointed.
