      I love this show, the characters in really life are different leif and his haft sister Freydis never met harald, and leif never took down the bridge in London leif was an explorer and was the first person to find America and named it Vinland (wine land) this is because there were a lot of grapes. Freydis in really life was well scary to say the least so the Freydis Valhalla shows is a much nicer version. And Harald also know as Harald hardrada has a big story too which I think the next season will go in to with them being in Constantinople I won’t say any more through because they would be big spoilers 😂

    These series are just marvelous. The story telling is amazing, the cast is extraordinary and the tremendous effort dedicated to the set is astonishing. There is so much work behind the scenes and the actors portraying the characters are exquisitely chosen. I have not seen previous Vikings series, but I truly believe this one deserves recognition of its own.

    Let me first begin to say that I love both Vikings, and vikings Valhalla. But as a Norwegian I find it kinda upsetting when they drastically change the story or appearance of the important people who formed my country. Jarl Haakon was litteraly a Jarl in the town im from (Trondheim). And its not just that she is black, never in a million years would a female be named Håkon. (Å= is the same as two AA´s btw). Im all in for her being in the show, but I dont understand why they couldnt just make a new character who isnt a historical person for her role...

    • @thoodd2636
      @thoodd2636 2 года назад +5

      Because these days facts or truths can hurt people's sensitive buttholes so they decided to put 1 a female in the role and 2 a black female in the role.
      But this whole show is filled with holes and not even close to the truth so it's whatever really.
      We need to compensate for everyone nowadays.

      No, I'm with you
      Clearly the show and all the people involved have grrat quality and skill to them and are magnificent at their jobs and crafts, no doubt.
      But I'm really tired of the cultural appropriation.
      Being a swede deeply invested in history and culture, I don't appreciate my culture and history being used in fiction as a coat of paint ontop of someone else's or some made-up culture, and then being labeled my culture.
      Their garments, their interactions, beliefs, how they interact with their own cultures, with each other, their relationships, how these characters and cultures live within the show - It's alright if they want to make it what it is, a made-up culture inspired by something else. But to call them norsemen, vikings and portray their very clearly religious ways of life (since when was norse mythology a religion? It's folklore and local culture, not religion) is not only cultural appropriation, but it's also spreading misinformation and painting an image of my culture and heritage that is untrue.
      It's not like the real cultures weren't interesting. Why not spend some more effort to honor and portray that.

    • @Norskpingvin
      @Norskpingvin Год назад +1

      @@smallbeard I know, right? The average person watching the show has barely any knowledge of norse culture and folklore to begin with. I hate the idea that people watching the show is actually going to belive all of it to be true. The "religious" scenes in vikings always make me cringe deep into my bone-marrow.
      As for the casting: Imagine a white female actress portraying a leader of an historical indigenous African tribe! And on top of it: Have a guy's name lol. People would lose their shit!

    One thing I don't quite understand is that now does Kattegat, the richest city in the north, has such a pathetically small army? and otherwise poor defenses? I mean, if Kattegat is the trading hub of the north, and also a symbol of religious freedom and liberty, then it would make sense for Haakon to spend more on defending it. By looks of it, Jarl Kare, somehow has a more potent force than Kattegat...

    It's ok so far. Not great but there were some great parts. Some of it felt rushed, especially some of the England storylines. Some of the Freydis story was too slow. Both her and her brother Leif are very interesting and hopefully season 2 gets better. I wasn't happy to find out Harald is a decendant of Finehair (who I absolutely hated in Vikings).
    The timeline confuses me. It's 100-150 years after Vikings ended or began? Erik the Red was in the end of Vikings but these are his kids? Did I miss something? How can it be 100+ years later?

Also, same creator and producer from Vikings, Michael Hirst is back for this series so i'm certain he knows what he is doing and I have no doubt he'll create another amazing series. And tbh, Vikings Valhalla season one was better than Vikings season one. Much more happened, the stakes were higher, the action sequences where much more intense, bigger, especially since it is only an opening season, and there were a lot of unexpected twists. While I adore Vikings season one, imo, Vikings Valhalla had a better opening season. Now we'll just have to wait and see how the rest of the series goes
