  • It's been a rough ride for San Jose Earthquakes fans. Most of the time, they aren't exactly competing for trophies.
    But there was one special year, then it all came together. The 2012 Earthquakes were the most electric team, and they had the craziest season in MLS history. And quite frankly, I don't know if we'll ever see something like this ever again.

    Man... the Cali Clasico rivalry was something else. It's not as intense as it used to be these days. Thanks to El Trafico, of course.

      That, and both the Galaxy and Quakes have fallen off just a bit. I'm a big Fire supporter and our rivalry with New England completely died off because the Fire.... are now not competitive anymore and no one cares about that matchup. It's a bummer

    Mannn the Quakes frustrated the hell out of me. The Galaxy(the team I support) would always blow leads to them in the regular season. Like we knew we were better, but the Quakes would grab results out of no where. It was so sweet to knock them out of the playoffs. 😅
    Also, Galaxy fans were furious when we traded for Alan Gordon two years later. He won everyone over and was easily a fan favorite for us too.

    People in America seem to be much more acceptable to their teams changing than over here

    • @dannytradio
      @dannytradio  Год назад +4

      It's definitely more acceptable here, unfortunately. Although I encourage you to check out the Save The Crew story in MLS. The owner of the Columbus Crew had attempted to move the team to Austin, TX, and the fans fought back and actually won. That owner did eventually get a new team in Austin... but after new owners came in and bought the Crew to keep them in Columbus.
      One of the biggest wins for fans in MLS

    Thank you for this video. The 2012 season was magic for us San Jose fans, and you absolutely nailed it. Respect to the Galaxy with whom we used to have an actual rivalry - Robbie Keane went to LA to chew bubblegum and win trophies, and he ran out of bubblegum right before that playoff game.

    This is the MLS I miss. The Quakes full backs were Justin Morrow and Steven Beitashour, both of whom were drafted in the second round in 2010. Beitashour's draft pick was a makeweight in the Cam Weaver-Chris Wondolowski trade, which made it the most lopsided trade where one team thought they were doing the hosing and ended up getting hosed. The breakout star player was Simon Dawkins, who prior to this had been released and re-signed by Spurs and failed to impress Leyton Orient on trial. Lots of American players, acquired through trades and the draft. Obscure foreigners looking to use MLS to build their careers.
    It's not the same anymore and the national team suffers as a result.

    As a Sounders fan, all I can remember of San Jose's 2012 season was what we here call The Battle of Kezar, the USOC quarterfinal match that the Quakes moved to rut-filled Kezar Stadium and the Sounders won 1-0, hanging on to an early goal despite all the Quakes' increasingly hyperphysical play. Those watching the livestream also know this as the Red Question Mark Game (a large stretch of the feed featuring only a red question mark) or The Night Eddie Johnson Killed a Man (Quakes sub came off the bench after the final whistle because he didn't like it that EJ was celebrating, they shoved each other, the Quakes guy fell down, and the livestream announcer declared "Eddie Johnson just punched a Quakes player!" before later backing down from that portrayal). Security had to escort the Sounders players off the pitch, and the traveling supporters had to move their celebrations downtown because the Ultras were on the rampage after the match. Good times.

    FINALLY, SOMEBODY SAID IT! As a loyal LA Galaxy Fan. I remember the CALI CLASICO used to be a TV Quality soccer match with usually a major impact on the Western Conference (considering how many blown leads we used to give up to them iykyk). Now, this all-time classic is so sad because they used to be that team to loathe.

    God I miss the old MLS. Something about the branding the team names were special to me. Nowadays MLS doesn't have the same exact magic as it once did. But I'll still respect this league no matter what happens. A lot of the charter clubs that's still playing till this very day aren't as good as they used to be. Most of the expansion clubs are taking the MLS by storm
