Octopods actually rival humans in raw intelligence. The main thing they have working against them is their relatively short lifespan. Part of what makes humans successful is our ability to learn over time, bolstering our raw intelligence with experience. Octopods are basically toddlers with better motor controls.
We also have the advantage of language. Lets us teach without practical examples.
@@DemonicEngineer Octopi can communicate by changing their skin color. The three things working against them are their lifespan, their solitary lives, and living underwater (preventing easy use of fire.)
@@DemonicEngineer May animals have a semblance of language. What makes our language and brains unique is that we are capable of communicating abstract concepts with them, which is something many communicating animals find difficult.

Fuck English... i feel bad for people having to learn it
while i agree, if you want to get technical, the correct plural is octopodes, as octopus originates from greek, not octopuses.
Technically speaking, “octopuses,” “octopi,” and “octopodes” are all correct in different contexts
Anonymous Off-Brand While I agree that “octopodes” is technically, technically correct, but good luck finding an actual grammar professional (and I do mean professional, not expert because of how many people like to do a few internet searches and consider themselves an expert) who actually enforces this idea. The suffix “-odes” is so old and widely unused that it is largely considered to have no place in contemporary English, giving the suffix “-es” priority today.

Octopus is not a simple Latin word of the second declension, but a Latinized form of the Greek word oktopous, and its 'correct' plural would logically be octopodes. ... Like octopi, the plural hippopotami is now generally taken to be either funny or absurdly pedantic, and the usual plural is hippopotamuses.
It’s octopodes, it comes from the Greek octo and ped, for eight legged. The proper Greek pluralization would be podes, or octopodes. It should really never be octopi, because ending with an i is a Latin plural
