The good ol days when SquareSOFT still made good games.
Never beat any of the Parasite Eve series before and I played these in my childhood. Stopped playing with 1 @ the hospital and got stuck at the final Boss in 2.

I really miss the days when CGI was designed with an emphasis on being unique and interesting to look at, rather than trying to convince you that what you were looking at wasn't CGI at all

If by indistinguishable, you are including fantasy which looks real, then... Back when this game was released, its cutscenes would be pretty cutting edge, no? It seems as though you're framing the game as something that came out recently, with a conscious choice to make the CGI outdated. But in reality, to the artists that made the game, they were probably envisioning something meant to be close to reality (visual effects wise.)
If however, you are not including fantasy, but games which might be called realistic fiction, like GTA V, I guess I could understand but then I'd wonder why you hadn't latched onto Resident Evil Village. It may have realistic treatment of optics and lighting but in art direction, it takes the standard science fiction of the franchise and (seems to) turn it on its head with mystical and fantasy elements. In that way actually I would say it's more on par with this game than any other game I have seen (although I am not an expert.)
So, I'm assuming you must be complaining about all games with realistic visual effects, regardless of whether any other aspect is interesting to look at. I imagine if you were born 20 years earlier, you might be one to say "I really miss the days when video games didn't need CGI, they were just pixelated enough to be interesting to look at, rather than trying to pass as indistinguishable from reality."

This was my fave game. I remember being creeped out playing this at night. When the people at the concernt started burning and when the rat mutating. Lol.

The cutscene that happens at the amphitheatre fucked me UP as a kid. Being melted into gelatinous LCL just so that bitch eve can conceive her monster son, was more than my child brain could comprehend. Not to mention all the transformations look so painful.
I feel like no one ever talks about this game. This was my absolute favorite as a teenager, and I'd still play it if I had my old PS1. Even if they never make a remake, I'd still be happy with a remastered version.

I love that they set the game in NYC and then really committed to making the monsters NYC related. Took full advantage of the setting and it's really cool.
when all the people melted together, that moment was when I walked away from this game for a bit

Looking back, there are 2 things that makes this game off the walls crazy with what I've learned:
1.) The concept of this game is what Final Fantasy 7 was supposed to be before they changed everything
2.) This game took the phrase, "The Mitochondria is the power house of the cell", to a whole new & EXTREME meaning
They took that phrase literally.
never got to play this game when I was a kid but remember seeing it from a demo cd. I was scared as hell watching the trailer. Looking back at it now, this game looks amazing.
The mutation with the dog at 7:00 reminds me of the mutations found in the movie The Thing

Think its worse here bc in The Thing, that was a alien taking over a dog it captured.. This feels more Brutal in nature w/ the gore & ears being removed.. And I actually feel for a polymorphic creature thats not morphic =/

She was clearly in pain the entire duration of her transformation.

Or like Dr William Birkin in Resident Evil 2 his G-Virus kept mutating him until he was nothing but a mindless monster.
Great game! Ahead of it's time. They need to remake this instead of resident evil so many times

Well Capcom made Resident evil, Square Enix will be responsible for a remake of this game, but they in the middle of remaking more of FF7, with fans begged before the PS3 was release to be remade.
You know this was made by square soft, not capcom, right?
I can almost imagine a Parasite Eve remake made by Capcom instead of Square Enix.
But "Resident Evil" is owned by Capcom, "Parasite Eve" is owned by Square Soft

RokuroCarisu well, Square Enix did a marvelous job in my opinion for FF VII Remake, and it doesn’t bothers me the way they did it because, for something is a remake, it doesn’t has to follow the trail like it was before lol but is respecting the important parts mostly, just look the remake for RE2 and RE3 lol or the first RE.

This would make an epic movie givin a good director and special effects team, remaster for ps4
Considering its a sequel to a novel that had a great film adaptation. It would easily be a perfect translation into cinema. The only trouble is that after p.e.1 the writters had nowhere else to draw inspiration. This caused a massive alienation of the franchise for p.e 2 and p.e 3. So if they made a sequel film i would really hope they would be wise enough to not make it a trilogy or at least retkon 2 and 3 so it can go back to what made it cool to begin with. The elements of the novel and book have such a cool vibe that nevee got properly followed up with. This is especially mibs blowing because the game ends with a dark implication that everyone is infected, she also presumably defeated her sister at this point too.
Ngl, the rat and sheeva cutscenes with modern 3D hardware would look fucking terrifying

The scene from 9:59-10:29 is always so freaky to me. Its just so silent and the perspective makes you feel like you're there

I wish more villains (in video game or otherwise) had opera weaved into their character themes. Honestly, just more opera used in media, please. The music in this game is so good, and the opera singing being brought back every time Eve is on screen is so impactful. It feels so haunting.
They need to remake this with better graphics that’s all!! No short cuts no cutting it down but the exact same but with better graphics .

I was 10 when this game came out and I loved it but at the time I had no idea what the World Trade Center was. Sometime after 9-11 I decided to play Parasite Eve again, it had been around 12 or 13 years since the last time I played it. Seeing the Twin Towers unexpectedly in the beginning cutscene that time was a sad and bizarre moment for me 😥.
i remember watching my uncle playing this when i was 4-5 yrs old and getting scared shitless yet asking him to keep playing because i loved horror and loved to watch him play; he was really good at it (still is!!)
then at 6 i got my own playstation as a bday present and he gifted me his copies of parasite eve 1 & 2
i got so damn scared when i played that sometimes i had to turn it off and go play spyro instead to calm down 😂 but i loved this game so much that later i kept playing anyway, though i never managed to beat it cause even at easy mode it was already hard for little me
nonetheless it remains as one of my loved childhood memories and would love to play it again 🎮🙏

I played this game as a kid when it first came out. If only I could see the look on my face and my reaction to some of these pre-rendered cutscenes when saw them for the first time 😲.

I haven't played this game since 1998. Half of this stuff I don't remember because I only played it once. I love the music and the fact that Eve's boss battles have an opera background lol. I hope Square remakes this one. I have the 2nd one also, but didn't play it all the way through
Ahh, the early days of the PS1. Good times. Bought this game on a whim. Glad I did. Such an awesome story with awesome game play to boot.

I bought the walkthrough book and even created my own spreadsheet with the weapons and mods arraigned accordingly during study hall in 10th grade.. I ended up with a machine gun that fired shotgun shells with at least acid. I'm sure i decked it off more if it allowed me to. I just can't remember. This game also made me wanna learn about mitochondria which apparently only comes from the female side which is why the name mitochondria Eve was conceived.

I want a other parasite eve game... or at least a remake of the original. I never got to play it. I never even heard of it until my girlfriend showed it to me. If it at least got a remake, I'd love it to pieces.
You can play all of them with the PSX emulator, and PE3 with the PSP emulator. There are a few sites where you can find almost every game made for any console up to PS2 and PSP:
ROM Nation, EMU Paradise Romulation.
I still have my old PS1 console, both PE1 and PE2 which I visit every now and then. Looking to buy the Parasite Eve 3 for the PSP.

For me, parasite eve far better than resident evil n other horror games in ps1
I feel so bad for Melissa. She was just trying to be a normal woman chasing her dream of performing an opera and was used and manipulated and became a monster. Seeing her pregnant it makes me think - she would have lived a normal life if she hadn’t have been used like that. I know she’s fictional but it makes my heart hurt because once Eve took over she was no longer in control of her body. Did Melissa die when Eve took over or was she trapped in her body, witnessing all these events like a prisoner in hell? I forgot that part of the story.
She died when Eve took control over her mind and body. I feel sorry for Melissa, too, I wish she had survived somehow.

The Horse with Human Face is the Monster from Parasite Eve 2. They are been called "Chaser". But yeah, they are really scary.

16:07 in the days before the internet I remember keeping a save before this fight so I could, ahem, "bop it" to Eve. Fighting a whole boss for like 5 seconds of a good view of her body. Shameful memories 😂
EDIT: I meant before ubiquitous internet and smart phones, didn't really have my own computer until 2004. Was like 10 and this was the only real material I had to work with 😂.
That was my favorite Eve form, did you get get to fight the last boss in Chrisler Building? Very similar form.
@@rx-8ccx301 never did it myself. Watched my older brother spend a whole afternoon beating it in one go. We were stupid and didn't know you can use elevators as you unlock them. So after seeing how long it took him I never wanted to do it. 😂

Wolfraimer normal ending. A sign that her mitochondria was taking over. Her ability was being able to control minds hence that scene. It was retconned to continue the series
@@Xxsorafan Don't really know if you can call it re conned since the true ending exists and therefor is considered canonical. It's not as if it was the only ending and chose to change it.
@@Dahpie I remembered them mentioning in game that her mitochondria may have learned to work with humans instead of what Eve's did.....At least that's how I always took it...As a symbiotic relationship....It's been 20 or so years since I've played it though so I may be wrong lol.
@@Dahpie @Bethany Monges If by "the true ending" you mean the one where Aya fights her way to the top of the Chrysler Building and confronts the "Original Eve" that is inhabiting the body of her twin sister Maya, well I'm not sure if the "True Ending" is the Canonical one. Because after Maya helps Aya to purge herself of the "Original Eve", Aya says to herself, "My body... It's back to
normal... before Eve ever came along... Before I came to have all that power...". That means she goes back to being a normal human being, which is obviously not the case in Parasite Eve 2.
As far as I'm concerned, the only Canonical ending is where Aya, Daniel, and Maeda return to the shore, and are looking out over the ocean. The second incident at Carnegie Hall, I figure, was someone's fever dream, as obviously it doesn't lead into PE2.
(Besides, it would have taken them weeks, if not months, to repair the damage Eve had done to the building, which they couldn't even start until they sifted through the bodies and cleared them out. Maeda would have had to returned to Japan by the time they were finished.)
And here is the dragon the DEMIURGE, the Demiurge offsprings ARCHONS!
If I'm going to watch this I'm so going to regret not having a ps1
