    It’s great how the writers show Daniel slowly changing his philosophy on both karate and what he’s learned about Miyagido. He starting to realize that he equally needs offense and defense. Combining His teachings from Miyagi and Johnny. I can’t wait to see them expand on this with Chosen in season 5.

      Daniel never said he was a hot head, Silver said that as an excuse for how he trained him. And when Daniel was angry he had every right to be angry with all the crap going on.

      , Johnny pushed Daniel down at the beach, he broke Ali's ghetto blaster, Daniel had no idea who Johnny was and that he and Ali used to date, he was trying to protect Ali from thugs. Also Daniel had been tripped twice as he tried to run at Johnny during the confrontation, The "cheap" shot was Daniel defending himself.

      I feel that perhaps Mr. Miyagi held back the full Miyagido teaching for Daniel, because perhaps Mr. Miyagi used it in the war, maybe he was protecting Daniel from going full Miyagido for his protection so he wouldn't kill anyone.

      I like how this last season made him have to take a hit to his ego by showing him he doesn't know whats best for everyone or that he isn't always right.. I agree. It was better to learn defense in his case because Daniel would have probably harm his enemies on purpose if he had learned the Cobra Kai style of karate.
      If you are already one way, it is good to learn another way so that you are a fuller person. It is also possible that Mr. Myagi was mainly taught the defensive version of Myiagi by his father, and not the aggressive parts.
      I wonder if it will turn out that Cobra Kai is actually a branch of the aggressive version of Myiagi-Do. That would be a cool twist. The only things we know about the origins of Cobra Kai are that John Kreese was taught it by his superior in the army via flashbacks, and what Terry Silver said in Karate Kid III; an elusive sensai from (presumably) South Korea. But it's Terry Silver, so it could all be bs.

    • @badengrishSi
      @badengrishSi 2 года назад +50

      This exactly! Daniel was a hothead because, he didnt have a father figure before, Mr Miyagi. Johnny had a terrible father figure in Kreese. Daniel and Johnny are two sides if the same coin. One is controlled, the other chaos. One is rigid, the other flexible. Each characters represent Ying and Yang. All the characters reflect each other in a push and pull. It's very smart that they repeat this theme and do it effectively.

    The BIGGEST thing people overlook is back in The Karate Kid. Despite a few lessons at the Y, and a book, Miyagi wasn't Daniel's first stop to learn Karate... It was Cobra Kai. The other main problem with Daniel is that he is very hypocritical and quick to assume the worst in people. Daniel was holding a grudge against Johnny for 30 years, but Daniel went through a lot worse with Chozen and Terry Silver. He was also very quick to get angry with Johnny, when half the time it’s the students acting out on their own against Myiagi do ( Johnny actually punished his students for bad behaviour) . When Daniel found out about the dojo re opening, he did everything in his power to close it instead of leaving Johnny alone. If Daniel wasn’t at the tournament meeting in season one, the committee would’ve turned down the dojo to enter the competition. Johnny wasn’t even Daniels biggest bully!!! There's just one puzzle piece missing for Daniel in all this, self-awareness. That's one of the reasons I think Johnny is for many fans the more sympathetic character. He has his own flaws that still need a lot of work, but he was also the first one to recognize that. From the beginning Daniel would blame himself sometimes when things went wrong, but in a "Oh, I failed, I was righteous but my righteousness wasn't enough to solve the problem" type of attitude. He's made progress though, especially toward the end of season 3, but still has a ways to go. I'm interested to see how this turns out by the end.

    It’s my opinion that the entire show is a representation of the yin and yang concept. Cobra Kai is hard and violent while Miyagi do is softer focusing more on peace and harmony. All of the movies did the same but the show is doing something different. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that this is the story of how the two finally join together as one. Instead of being two opposing forces, the two will learn that both philosophies can coexist and compliment each other. It’ll work out in the end.

    • @Pyrela
      @Pyrela 2 года назад +6

      I also think that Miyagi-do was not as soft or focusing on peace and harmony as Daniel thinks that it was. I think that Miyagi purposefully over emphasized those aspects in order to counter Daniel's natural aggressiveness and temper and maybe also because of his experiences with war and losing his family. After all, in the movie Daniel was far from introverted or shy. He was outgoing and a little hot headed. I think Daniel would have fit into Cobra Kai very well actually, if circumstances had been different.

  • @MechisMechas
    @MechisMechas 2 года назад +29

    The point from which the show started is that from Johnny's pov, Daniel was/is the bully, while from Daniel's, he gained confidence because of karate and what Miyagi taught him, but he never let go what Johnny did to him and how scared he felt at first. So Daniel's initial instinct, was always to fight Johnny in the same Cobra Kai style, it was Miyagi who shaped him not to, but we can see even in his kids, the nature is there to also be the bullies, and if there is not a strong figure like Miyagi was to Daniel, they can go to that path too and Daniel is so into showing he is right to everyone else, that he is not paying attention on what is going on with his own kids. So the entire concept of the show is great, even if some storylines come across as soap operas, because no one is completely bad or completely good in it and it is great in the way that is shows that it is all a matter of perspectives.

    The problem with both is that they’re so similar. They’re each other’s Jungian Shadows. They subconsciously recognize all the things about themselves that they dislike in each other and it pisses them off. That’s why they alternate from close to being best friends to absolutely hating each other, because they’re essentially looking into a mirror, and how they feel about each other depends on how they feel about themselves at that moment.

All what he did was fight back.
    When Daniel and Johnny first encountered at the beach, Johnny threw Ali’s radio and Daniel was only trying to help out by picking it up and giving it back to Ali but Johnny snatched it off his hands rudely and then shoves it back to Daniel knocking him on the floor. Daniel wasn’t going to take that; well WHO ELSE would?! Would you??!! I adored the fact that they wrote Daniel to absolutely ignore Silver and Kreese's win in the end. He's right. Every time these conniving turds have gone above and beyond to disrespect, disregard, manipulate or hurt him, his father figure Sensei, his children and students and it was so refreshing for him to say nuts to honouring any agreement made with those two snakes.

    This show is great because it has taken what were essentially kinda 2 dimensional characters in the movies, and let them breathe. Life isn't always black and white as the movies would have you believe. Johnny can be an asshole, but Daniel can also be an asshole. The deconstruction of both characters (especially Daniel) is what drives this show forward. My only issue is that the show seems to be in an alternate reality where you know, um, MMA doesn't seem to exist...LOL. I think they mentioned MMA in Season 1 or something, but that karate is everything. From having been a student of karate, it has some merits but I definitely would love to study Judo and/or BJJ as well one of these days. Aside from the fact it isn't really in OUR world (FUCK YOU COVID), great show and I highly recommend it. You will binge hard on this one.

      Maybe Chozen will introduce a ground aspect to Miyagi-Do similar to original Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. Say "It was there all along" but Miyagi didn't want to flood Daniel with new techniques just then. After all, the reason Miyagi taught Daniel was to give him something he needed, not to turn him into the ultimate fighter. I think there's room for a ground game in the show.
      BJJ is fantastic, but if you have the chance to study Pankration or some other form of ground fighting, you'll get a similar result. I asked my ground fighting instructor once how what I was learning compared to Jiu Jitsu and he remarked "there are only so many effective ways to wrap someone up" meaning they all converge to a similar style. Good luck with however your training goes.

    • @mattirealm
      @mattirealm 2 года назад +1

      @@SequentiallyCompact Thanks for the response. Yeah I have wanted to study a ground art for some time, and that really left me with Judo or BJJ as options. The show definitely needs a ground aspect because that cannot be ignored. I mean, how many videos out there where a student of one martial art, say Tai Chi, gets schooled by the MMA fighter? I don't remember any ground stuff being taught in Karate, not where I learned, and I know its important. Either way, I plan to get on with it when I can, and we shall see where Season 5 goes with the show!

    • @SequentiallyCompact
      @SequentiallyCompact 2 года назад

      @@mattirealm I wish you the best of luck. You really are getting the most out of studying separate martial arts and integrating them yourself. In my day (the 90s) that was the only option. MMA schools can teach good skills, but there's something intangible that really benefits you when you figure out how it personally works best for you. If you find a way to advance your training, I'd love to hear about your progress. Take care.

    It's funny how differently people can see things. I watch a video called "The problem with Daniel LaRusso" and it's a bunch of stuff that's basically mirroring this dumb video that said Daniel was the bully in the Karate Kid movies which apparently is satire, but then you have videos like this :) The funny thing is that nothing about what Daniel did in season 4 is referenced her at all, it's all from the Karate Kid, earlier seasons of Cobra Kai.. It's hilarious, like where my perspective which is a lot more balanced like I don't really have like huge biases and stuff like a lot of people do.. I go by evidence and like, actual real evidence not the stuff mentioned in this video which is stuff interpreted to fit the narrative the person's trying to portray as opposed to really being evidence. For instance, Danny going and telling Johnny that he should take over the kids training from now on because he knows how to handle Silver, and you can't strike first with him and basically throwing Johnny under the bus.. That's evidence. Coz it can't be interpreted in one way or the other it just is.. For example "Daniel sucker punched Johnny in the first Karate Kid" ... it you rewind just a few seconds before that "sucker punch" you see Johnny shove the radio into Daniel's face knocking him on the floor. So yeah who started what again? ....
    Just an example. but yeah my point is I find it hilarious that a video stating the prblem with Daniel LaRusso mentions NOTHING about his actions in season 4 which is actually when he starts to be the problem. You cannot say that Daniel did anything to Johnny in Seasons 1-3 that Johnny didn't do to Daniel.. every single time they come close to making an alliance one of them screws it up and they always do it equally.
    But in season 4 Daniel is always the one who is refusing to see the value in Eagle Fang, refusing to be fair and really combine their efforts and that's literally the reason why they split every single time they split in Season 4 is Daniel's fault. But none of this is mentioned which is hilarious..
