Cuddly Savage wrong again. the agreement of a temporary truce happened AFTER the halloween party at the cobrai mai dojo. there was no agreement at all. all what happened up to this point is 1) johnny beating up daniel at the beach 2) the cobrai kais attacking daniel at the football game for no reason 3) the cobra kais pushing daniel off a hill severely injuring him, again just to bully him.
after being bullied and ruthlessly ganged up on 3 occasions daniel retaliated by spraying water on johnny. which led to 5 cobrai kais almost killing daniel by beating the shit out of him for spraying water at johnny. a close to death beat down for water, let that sink in.

He did regret playing dirty at the S1 finale, also he started up cobra kai firstly for helping miguel, kinda. First class in S2 showed that he tries to teach well (punishing being unfair). He has the spirit, but some of kobra kais lessons are flawed since they originate from Kreese. Kresse from his part comes from the war?(before making cobra kai) And since then he hasn't shut up about hypermasculism and such. (Maybe affected by war idk). Jhonny absolutely tries his best but has flawed methods rooting far back, back either to kreese, the war kreese was in, or Jhonnies rivalry with LaRusso.

Other than the exception of the final episode the characters and story are very grounded in reality, and instead of it just being a battle between black and white, it’s more so a shade of gray. The story also explorers the past of the characters, so you can see why they make the decisions (whether or not they are right or wrong) and that brings up the question who is really the good guy? This show is a great example of flawed protagonists IMO. Just my 2 cents on the topic

I think this story is meant to show there are more sides than just good vs evil. Daniel has done a lot of good in the show, taking in robbie, teaching his students to be peaceable. He also shows bad qualities: obsession, refusal to let things go or think differently, but most if not all of those behaviors are induced by trauma, which is realistic. On the other hand johnny shows some promising qualities, wanting to change cobra kai, taking in kids who are considered "losers".
That being said he has some serious self confidence issues when it comes to kreese. Giving up his dojo too easily, flying off the handle and getting into petty fights, not being there for his only son.
This story isn't good vs evil like the old karate kids, it's about realistic people who have issues trying to cope and get along, doing what they believe is right. We see many times in the show that while daniel and johnnys teaching methods are vastly different, more often than not they achieve the same result and are both effective.

      Ali: Karate Kid's Real Villain
I’ve seen “The Karate Kid” 7924 times. It is one of those films from my Youth that continues to re-enter my life (and my DVD Player). As a kid, I once faked being sick just to stay home and watch KK on HBO. You did things like that if you were a movie geek in the 80’s. The TV Guide was my constant companion. Since 1984, I have memorized its dialogue, overanalyzed the plot, worn out the soundtrack on vinyl, cassette and CD…for God’s sake; this website is named after the villain of this movie…or more accurately; this website is named after who is perceived to be the villain of this movie. It’s been 27 years since its theatrical release and as an overly knowledgeable and obsessive fan, it’s finally time to reveal the truth…the real villain of “The Karate Kid” is Ali (with an I).

A quick review of the plot; Lonely High School kid moves cross country into a new town…complications arise when he tries to fit into his new environment. Honestly, if you haven’t seen KK by now, you should jump off the highest mountain in Okinawa…for real.
In this article; I will outline specific scenes and details of how the Film convinced the audience that the villain was Johnny Lawrence (played to perfection by the great William Zabka). I will then prove how Ali (ably portrayed by Elisabeth Shue) flew under the radar as the true villain of this film. Science and shit…what up?
      The Beach Party

New kid in town, Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) attends a Beach Party and catches a glimpse of the blonde, blue eyed beauty, Ali. Sparks fly. Daniel tries to woo Ali by juggling a soccer ball (obviously, Daniel has no skillz with the ladies). The party is innocently crashed by the ‘Cobra Kai’…five 17 year old guys from a local Karate Dojo who ride motorcycles.
A few important notes need to be mentioned here:
      1. The leader of the Cobra Kai (Johnny Lawrence) expresses regret to his buddies about his reputation as a 'Degenerate". He speaks of hoping for a new start to reinvent himself in the upcoming school year. "I have one year to make it work…and that’s what I’m gonna do…make it work.“ There is no way that Johnny went to the Beach that night looking for a fight.
      2. It seems that all of the other party-goers (sans Ali) are happy to see the Cobras. There are high fives, laughing and no signs of violence anywhere. Just a bunch of kids enjoying an end of summer party.
Alas, Johnny sees Ali, an ex-girlfriend of just a few weeks, and decides to confront her about their break-up. While Johnny tries to make amends, Ali becomes confrontational by taunting her ex with the volume control on her boom box…real mature. Unable to get through to her, he disgustedly throws the boom box to the ground. Daniel picks up the radio against Johnny’s warnings ('Don’t touch it punk!’) and a fight ensues. Halfway through the ass-kicking, Ali pleads; "Alright, let’s go somewhere and talk!” Really Ali??? Really? Too little too late. If she had just taken 5 minutes to clear the air earlier, all of this madness would have been avoided. Instead, she caused unnecessary drama. She wanted to create friction and have two men fighting over her. Was this all a plan to boost her ego and make Johnny jealous? I think it was.
      Soccer Tryouts
Thanks to Ali, Daniel-san starts the school year as a social outcast with a black eye. His friends from the beach party don’t want anything to do with him. Can you blame them? Homeboy started a fight with the Cobra 'Freakin’ Kai! No thanks pal! At least Daniel has his juggling skills which will certainly gain him a spot on the High School Soccer team….that is, until he runs into Ali again. Ali apologizes for the friction that she may have caused. "I should have just given it (the radio) to him (Johnny).“ Oh ya think Ali??? It would have saved Daniel’s face, friendships and reputation. Was this harmless flirting…I don’t think so. Ali knows that Johnny and the Cobra Kai are also trying out for the team and watching their every move. Why wouldn’t she pursue Daniel in private especially after the ass kicking Daniel endured the night before? Because she LOVES DRAMA!!! She also fails to give Daniel her name until the very end of the convo…by the way it’s Ali (with an I). Freakin Tease. Underscored by Bananaramma’s Cruel Summer, the Kai get Daniel kicked off the team. Fun fact; it’s not even Johnny who attacks Larusso…it’s the perennial All Valley tournament runner up, Bobby Brown (no, not Roni Tenderoni).
      Golf N Stuff
Ali and Daniel go out on a date. On Ali’s suggestion, they decide to go to a local hot spot called 'Golf N Stuff’. Really? What the hell was Ali thinking? "Hmmmm, is there a place we can go where I know that everyone at our school (including my jealous ex-boyfriend) is going to be on a Friday night?” Come on! Go to a movie! Go to the Mall! Go to Mr. Miyagi’s house! Why must you showboat in front of your ex? Inevitably, Johnny and his crew show up in a convertible and ask Ali if she wants to go cruising. Note: Johnny makes a slight effort to bury the hatchet with Daniel as well…'Your friend can come to, if it’s ok with his Mommy.’ Sure it was a little shot at DL’s ego, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if a friendship could have been established if Daniel had simply hopped in the car. Of course, right on cue, Mrs. Larusso pulls up in her embarrassing green station wagon. Fail. Golf N Stuff is probably not the best place to go for an intimate first date. However; if you want to needle your ex with jealousy, this is the place to be.
      The Country Club
By some miracle, Daniel gets a second date with this Demon-woman. Ali suggests that Daniel pick her up at her Parent’s Country Club…you know…the same Country Club where Johnny and his family are members. Are you kidding me? She could have met him anywhere, but nooooooo…she is evil. On her Parent’s recommendation (they know a good guy when they see one), they instruct Ali to dance with Johnny. Signals are crossed and Johnny kisses her (a Pimp move). Daniel sees this and crashes into a waiter carrying 421 plates of Spaghetti (it was Italian night apparently). His all white outfit is stained in sauce (white jeans, come on Danny!). Embarrassed, he bolts for Miyagi’s (weird?). Ali meanwhile punches Johnny in the mouth…spraining her hand in the process. Anger Management. Manipulative and violent…not the best attributes to have in a woman.
      The Tournament
That She-Devil pretends to be a Japanese Translator in order to stand ringside at the All Valley U-17 Tournament in Daniel’s corner. Enough is enough. How is this allowed? She should be in the stands with a ticket stub and a sno-cone. Imagine Johnny’s humiliation. Now he has to defend his title with his ex-girlfriend in the corner of his eye the entire evening. Such a Judas. When will she stop with the mind games? Larusso and Lawrence meet in the finals where Daniel gets a fluky 3-2 victory. Johnny, showing his true colors, presents the Championship trophy to Daniel and yells; “You’re alright Larusso! Great Match!” Yes, the assumed villain of KK turns out to be a classy, good sport while Ali basks in the glow of Daniel’s Championship…I ain’t sayin she’s a Gold Digga…
      The Aftermath- Karate Kid 2
The cinema patrons who thought that Ali and Daniel-san would live happily ever after were basically punched in the stomach from the start of Karate Kid 2. Daniel shows up at Miyagi’s with a damaged car and a broken heart. A quick off screen recap: Ali borrows his beloved car, crashes it and breaks up with him…admitting to 'falling in love with some guy from UCLA.’ WHAT!!??!! That Bitch! Using Daniel in the first movie to make her ex jealous…and now breaking up with him when something better comes along.
Essentially the beginning of KK 2 renders the original love story from Karate Kid useless. We were led to believe that Daniel and Ali were as star crossed as Romeo and Juliet…two people from opposite sides of the tracks trying to come together. Ali is meant to be a likable girl who sees something in Daniel that he can’t see in himself. I think it’s been proven that she’s a manipulative witch with anger issues. She’s still hot though. William Zabka is vindicated.

YES! I got so into Cobra Kai I rewatched Karate Kid and actually loved it even more than the first time I saw it. They even play a lot of the same music which was a really nice touch. But it definitely doesn’t fit with the series because in Cobra Kai we are led to believe that Johnny never got over this lose and his life spiraled downwards for 34 years afterwards. In the movie he is over the loss in like 2 seconds, lol. Both are great though, there is not a single character who is strictly a black and white good/bad guy. I guess the closest is altered, but he is even made more sympathetic when you here how he has spent the last 10 years of his life in halfway homes. Even though he is the only villain of the story, I really hope he gets redeemed by the end.

The fact that Johnny graciously accepted defeat, handed Danny his trophy with the words "You deserve this" and Danny completely blew him off says a lot about Johnny. He also punished his class students for fighting dirty. What would be great is to see Johnny and Danny finally set aside their differences to fight Kreese.

Yeah : though, johnny didn't even mean it that much
He was mainly trying to show off after his rage as he was likely going for a head charge or perhaps johnny was trying to ground and pound danny mixed martial arts style
The cobra 🐍 kai kar8 group weren't going to leave danny alone after they struck his leg physically and mentally injuring him like the cowardly criminals they were
Want evidence : johnny threatening danny telling him stuff plus the wild strikes he tried on danny
The cobra 🐍 kai karate group would have likely still been after danny along with myagi if johhny won the final tournament match and danny lost however, since johnny acknowledged Danny at the end of the original karate kid film plus johnny stood up to his bully cobra 🐍 kai karate group sensei johnny kreese in the beginning of the sequel johnny deserved and still deserves redemption ☺

I don’t think Johnny really was, because since the first movie Johnny didn’t want to fight Daniel at the beach, when Krease told him to hurt Daniel at the tournament, Johnny didn’t really want to, and even when he lost the tournament Johnny was happy with 2nd place, he thought the still did good, even over the fact that he lost with an illegal kick, Daniel literally did not win because if that was the case then Johnny would’ve gotten the win when they gave him a warning too, everyone knows that was an illegal kick, they just felt bad for Johnny, but you didn’t see Johnny as a teen arguing over the win with the judges, he could’ve said the same thing like Older Daniel said “you don’t know the history here” I always saw Daniel as an ass

I hope in season 3 they see the error in both of their ways (neither is perfect, both make mistakes) and realize they can exist without having to be enemies. I hope they see what their rivalry did to those they love (if you saw the season 2 finale you know what I mean) and realize it needs to end once and for all. At the same time, I really like to see how much it seems that Zabka and Macchio enjoy doing this. They are actors, yes, but it really shows that they like bringing back and updating the old KK universe. A universe, that obviously had way more potential than "just" 80s action movies.

Kreese served in a bloody war were he learned if he didn't strike first and hart with no mercy you and your comrades were dead and he thought his students this. I don't believe Kreese is completely evil or bad but that he is traumatized by the war. That's maybe one reason why he hates Miyagi: Miyagi is a Asian and looks to him like the Vietnamese he fought. Also as a veteran of the 2 world War Miyagi earned the medal of honor and was honored as a war hero. Kreese fought in the Vietnam War were soldiers that came back didn't get the same recognition as world war 2 soldiers.

Daniel had Mr.Miyagi until possibly Pat's real life death back in 06, so he's had alot of time to learn with him. Daniel is used to world he's in, Johnny's not, he's a man stuck in the 80's, and has so much more to learn because of his upbringing in life.

Johnny has more spiritual enlightenment without him knowing it, while Daniel is still in ilussion. Johnny dont care about ego, while Daniel is more of ego. I agree it has no black and white. Its grey and that is life.

    • @crimsonking440
      @crimsonking440 3 года назад +4

I think it's like an inverse scale. Johnny in the movie was all ego and Danny was enlightenment. During their lives Johnny's ego was eroded due to his failings in life, while Danny's ego was inflated by his success, partially due to Miyagis teachings. By the time of Cobra Kai the opposite is taking place. Danny is so convinced by his ego that destroying cobra Kai is the right thing that he's actively working against Johnny's enlightenment and effort to make Cobra Kai better.

The beauty of this series. I think with original karate kid I always viewed Johnny as the bad guy. With Cobra Kai, we can see that each person has their complexities . there is some good and some bad in each person. We are all one, and we should have compassion for each other's stories. BALANCE!! Love this series!

I think Sam it's mostly guilty of what happened in season 1 and season 2.
She gave hope to Miguel and established the rivalry between him and Robby since the beginning, and instead of treating Miguel as her official boyfriend, she kept hiding him from her parents and treating him really bad when Miguel had defended her in front of all the bullies and stood with her when no one else stayed. Plus almost all misunderstandings between Johnny and Daniel were caused by her and how she manipulated Robby during season 1 and 2. Another thing to notice it's how hypocrite was Robby during all the show I mean, Johnny wasn't the best dad ever but he tried to change and get closer to his son(Robby's mother was a disaster and horrible in all senses, she didn't cared for him and just used him as a source of income provided by Johnny's hardwork)and even attempted to help him change so he wouldn't commit the same mistakes he did during his childhood and teenage time but Robby never listened and instead turned to his father's rival just to make him mad. Daniel Larusso was also poisoning the mind of Robby and Samantha during the whole season 1 making Johnny look like the bad guy and as a horrible human being while in reality Johnny defended Miguel from the bullies and even went as far as to help his students using himself as an example of what shouldn't be done. I just hope Samantha, Robby and Daniel receive some kind of punishment for everything they have done against Johnny and against Miguel, I mean Miguel already had a perfect life with Tory as his girlfriend which is never afraid to show him around and to teach him about life and Johnny as his father figure(It's states quite literally that he sees Johnny as a father due to all the teachings for selfdefense and life) before Samantha gets completely wasted and uses this as an excuse to kiss Miguel and confuse him causing the final issue between her and Tory.

Daniel did the right thing at the start, he showed that he had the balls to try stoping a girl from being harassed. [NOT A VILLAIN]
Then he gets pushed down by that a-hole so technically Johnny starts the fight. Once again proved that Daniel was NOT A VILLAIN.
On the soccer field, that bully PURPOSELY tackles Daniel so ofc Daniel gets angry and punches him. This again shows Daniel AINT A VILLAIN.
Later, he gets pushed by a group of bullies while riding a bike which could have even killed him. Another thing suggesting Daniel was NEVER THE VILLAIN.
And yes he won the tournament fair & square which CONCLUDES that HE WAS THE HERO.

Personally, I think that Johnny is going to become the main teacher of Miyagi-Do, and Daniel will be the owner/ head teacher. The only reason the cobra kai students didn't go off the deep end was because Johnny was still the head instructor, so he was able to kick Kreese out and teach the students the importance of mercy.
At the end of season 2, Johnny was forced out of cobra Kai (taking his morals with him), and Daniel's wife made him leave the dojo behind. I think that with Daniel still wanting to stop cobra Kai, and Johnny wanting to beat Kreese, the two will finally end up joining forces (the two always seem to get along when given the chance, but other stuff always gets in the way).

Johny's karate style is way too different from Miyagi so it doesn't make sense that he takes over that school of teaching. Its actually the exact opposite in style. One is focused in a linear aggressive offensive style while the other is a circular calm defensive style.

    • @phabiorules
      @phabiorules 3 года назад +3

@@titusalabat5173 I think the fact that his style is so different does make sense as to why he would teach there. In martial art schools, you want to have teachers with different fighting styles and specialties because it will lead to a more well rounded student. If you have two defensive based teachers, then the students will have a strong defense, but if you get one offensive and one defensive, then students will be more well rounded.
Martial arts has no correct way, and it is important to give students the tools to help find themselves and their specific fighting style for them. The show has shown that Johnny and Daniel can get along, so it makes sense the two can run a dojo together (the universe seems to always cause major problems that prevent them from becoming friends), and since Daniel is still the owner, he can always fire Johnny if he becomes too aggressive.
At the beginning of the show, I would agree with you. However, we are seeing Johnny start to become less aggressive (teaching them to show mercy, punishing them for stealing a medal of honor), so I wouldn't be surprised if he took over the school (especially since Daniel still wants to end Cobra Kai).

    • @titusalabat5173
      @titusalabat5173 3 года назад +2

@@phabiorules But isn't the point of a martial arts schools, based on one style of teaching passed on from generation to generation? I think instead of taking over Miyagi Do they will end up combining their school of teaching to make a new one and a new school of martial arts is born. That is my guess.

My favorite part about Cobra Kai is the way it shows the effect of the dojo's teachings on the students. Miguel, but more obviously Eli/Hawk beame more hotheaded and worse people as a resuly of the Cobra Kai philosophies
