I’m so glad they included his Outsiders performance. The last scene with him and Dallas will always be powerful
Cobra Kai is the best handled continuation of a franchise I've ever seen. Ralph and the rest of the team are doing an incredible job!
I agree
Agreed
Cobra Kai, Creed and Top Gun Maverick are the best franchise continuations in my opinion
@@icemav5740 I still need to watch Creed!
It’s the best soap opera I’ve ever seen and I mean that in the nicest way.
It’s Karate Kid for a new generation, while still respecting and continuing the journey of characters that were already established and that people grew up with.
The Outsiders is a true CLASSIC!! We read the book in my english class in school and so did my kids so to this day the movie is one of our absolute favorites!! Much love Ralph ❤ He is a true Legend.
Love that movie.
never read it or seen it. Hope I can stream it somewhere.
@@stich21 its a must watch trust me
What is it about??
@@journeytrials watch it and find out
The way Ralph says “My cousin Vinny!” in that scene gets me every time.
Karate Kid 2 is very underrated. Great cast, amazing score, lots of heart and touching moments, a more raw final match with higher stakes, and Kumiko was Daniel’s best pairing in my humble opinion.
Nah man that has the be Karate Kid 3 the villain and the bad boy of karate made this movie so great to watch
And don't forget the scene at the beach where Daniel comforts Miyagi after his father dies. It gets me every time I see it.
Chozen is great.
The Next Karate Kid is underrated.
Nah, Amanda is really great for him. She grounds him pretty well.
I'm glad to hear him talk about The Outsiders more. I love the Karate Kid and Cobra Kai series, but The Outsiders film will always have a special place in my film loving heart.
Facts
I watched the movie as a kid and didn't even realize how many big names were in that movie
Is it because you're a Greaser
@@bellaknightR597 Right, it's absolutely mind blowing when you realize that none of them at the time were established stars or the major household names they would later become. The only one of the cast who was a well known star at the time was actually the 70's teen idol Leif Garrett as Bob the Soc who Johnny ( Ralph ) ends up killing in self defense . It just goes to show just how good the casting was that they grabbed so many future big name stars for this film.

I could listen to him talk forever. He has such a soothing voice and a way about how he explains things that just holds my attention like few other people can. Loved this man as a child and I still love him now in my 40's :)
I hope he makes a audiobook for his new book coming out why read it when I can hear him read it his voice is soothing 🙂
I read that he’s also a trained dancer too.
@@matthewschwartz6607 mf your weird
@@matthewschwartz6607 yeah he is he use to be on dancing with the stars I'm surprised he didn't win tbh
Ralph looks very young for his age.
Ralph made a good point about how they portray Daniel in the show. It was a little weird seeing him as a dealership owner but it started to make more sense as the seasons went on. Also it makes more sense when you rewatch the movies and you see that Daniel was always pretty cocky.
One thing I love is the wax on wax off movement lol. When a student or students comes in because they want to learn karate and are all hyped up. He then takes them where he has a bunch of dirty cars lined up and tells them to clean all his cars which is why one of the reasons it makes perfect sense he is into cars. Most students quit but the ones that stick around eventually get frustrated after doing it for days and then threaten to quit complaining that they wanted to learn karate not be an unpaid lackey then this is my favorite part he attacks them and they block using the wax-on wax-off movement and the student looks surprised at that themselves blocking.
Ps
LMFAO when the son paid for all the car to wax.
And the pov of Johnny seeing Daniel as a punk kid that kept asking for more trouble as well 😂
Exactly I was like a car dealer ship ?! Then you remember miyagi gave him the car and he loved that car and all that stuff show is handled so amazingly
I love his personality. He seems so kind and down to earth ☺️
@Khalilah D. For some reason I remember him not being viewed that way.
Are you mentally slow? He’s literally a nobody in show business and acts like he did something meaningful
@@godofthisshit remembered is past tense. Currently he is.
@@RonnieG Well he has a hit show. I don't know if how he was viewed was accurate or not, but I do remember him not having the best views.
I got to meet him! he really is that down-to-earth...
Remember, Ralph is 60, he looks extremely good for his age, honestly stopped aging a long time ago. ❤️
He looks younger than 60 I gotta say Yeah he looks good for his age ☺️☺️
There was a inter view he did at 30 years old but still looked/sound 17
@@omarbautista541 the david letterman interview! where he's talking about having his first kid but he looks and sounds so young
That because he been eating right
You mean he never started aging. 😉
The outsiders is by far my favorite movie, and I think Ralph fit the role for johnny PERFECTLY. I've read the book a million times, and every time I read about johnny, I picture Ralph in my head. It just fits perfectly.
Wish they included cross roads. One of his best performances hands down.
Yes! That would've been the icing on the cake
“Yeah, he’d be a walking concert”
Seriously plus an iconic ending a guitar battle with Steve Vai.
The whole reason I clicked on this is because I assumed crossroads would be included.
@@angercatalyst Did exactly the same thing. Sadly it wasn't there.
"Stay Golden" is such a beautiful line. I say it to people and they don't know I'm quoting a classic film line. More people should either read the book or know the film.
*Gold
He said “SOME OF my iconic roles” because he’s upset no one ever talks about ‘Crossroads.’ He wanted to play all the guitar in that movie. It meant a lot of him.
Crossroads is a favorite of mine.
Enjoy it every time I see it!
15 y.o and hyperfixating on him bc of the outsiders so I'm glad he talked about it in this
Same dude
Seems like such a nice, humble guy. I can't imagine him being rude to a fan. You can tell he appreciates what he had and has.
he was a client at my previous job. VERY sweet, down to earth, never ever pulled the “celeb” card. just an overall cool dude who was always a pleasure to see.
YOU MET RALPH,…
@@savannas_aura a few times yeah! spoke to him on the phone without knowing who he was lol. blended in with everyone else and very very kind to everybody
Very nice story, thank you for sharing.
If you ever speak to him again, please tell him I said Hi. 🙃
The legend! He’s literally in every iconic movie.
I remember him on the show Eight Is Enough before all these too. He goes back awhile. 40 years at least.
Really puts a smile on your face to think how so many members of the original cast of Karate Kid returned for Cobra Kai to bring Karate Kid to a new generation
I know it’s obvious but you can still see his teenage and young adult self perfectly through the ageing. It’s nostalgic
Macchio should be in more movies. In more noticeable great films I mean. He's such a great actor.
Espacially after The Karate Kid 3
Karate Kid basically made his career and ended it in one fell swoop. He made so much money with those 3 films, he really didn't need to keep working. Also nobody really casted him unless the movie had some sort of Martial Arts theme.
@@bazookajoe6133 after 1989 and My Cousin Vinny was his best memorable roles for his career
Fantastic actor. The Outsiders was incredible
I get a lump in my throat hearing him talk about all this. He's been part of our lives since we were kids. I agree with him, I'd love to see Miagi's story.
A lump in ur throat c'mon now. Danielson didn't turn u on that much did he
I refuse to believe he's 60 years old. Honestly he looks like he's in his early 40s.
When i was a kid it was hard to believe he was close to 30 when he KK1
@@robd1329 he was 21 in kk1 not close to 30

Well you better believe it
"Thanos is in a Gi on Ventura Blvd & he must be stopped" LMFAO 🤣 5:45
So I'm halfway into Season 5 of Cobra Kai and I know he gets this constantly, but it is shocking how young he really does look given he is 60 years old! Especially that *steam room* scene (if you know, you know) the steam fogged up his face enough that you couldn't see any wrinkles or anything else (not that he had many) and it looked like he was a kid again almost. It was WILD. I don't think that part of that scene was intentional, but given the other character in that scene, and how Ralph Macchio looked even younger... I got chills. As if I was back in time.
Talk about younger.. wait till you get to one of Kreeses flashbacks!!!
Ooooooo have you finished it yet? What did you think about the finale?
I first saw the Outsiders in 1994, after we read the book in English class. I still got weepy seeing Johnny on that hospital bed, even out of context in this interview. Coppola really caught lightning in a bottle with Hinton's book and that cast (and Carmine Coppola's score)! I still have that Frost poem memorized. 💖 Stay gold, everyone. 🌟
So happy they made a video talking about all of Ralph’s most iconic characters!
He’s had so many awesome characters,
like Daniel Larusso in Karate Kid,
or Daniel Larusso in Karate Kid II,
or Daniel Larusso in Karate Kid III,
or Daniel Larusso in Cobra Kai
HHAHAHAAHHAHA
Well, you're not wrong. If we're really talking "Iconic" then Daniel Larusso is pretty much it. But still, even though this is a glorified commercial for Cobra Kai, I think Ralph tells a pretty good story. Cut the guy a break.
That’s pretty much what Ralph Macchio is known for these days
@@Dream0Asylum true. But that man was struggling talking about My Cousin Vinny 💀
He’s embraced it at this point which is not bad he’s getting a bag out of being Daniel Larusso
Ralph Macchio is a legend and he was fantastic in the original Karate Kid.
Crossroads was one of my favorite films Ralph Macchio was in. Epic guitar battle against the devils prodigy Stevie Vai.
I only clicked on this video for Crossroads... 😒
"Who's next up here? Who's gonna get their heaaaad cut?!"
"Cant talk little man?.. Betcha cant play nun' either!"
He still looks so young 😳😳 one of my favorite 80 s movies 🤘🏽🔥🔥🇲🇽
Hard to believe he’s 60!
He's 60 years old, remarkable! Seems like a genuinely good guy.
61 in a week.
Ralph Macchio should host Saturday Night Live!!! The guy is a gifted actor and I love his onscreen presence.
Anyone who is watching Season 5 currently- did you also get chills during the steam room scene?! The steam sort of blurred Daniel's face, and it made him look even younger than he already does. It made him look like it was his young self vs Silver, almost like we were going back in time to where their rivalry started. I don't think it was intentional on their part but you could take that visual and sense that scared boy in Daniel, the same look he had in the OG movies whenever he encountered Silver. I don't think I am explaining this well but I found it very cool. I am just loving the scenes between Silver and Daniel
There was a lot of KK3 references....right down to Silver soundly breaking Danny physically, mentally and emotionally (thus symbolizing the broken banzai tree).
Karate Kid 3 was probably the weakest of all of the films but the way they’ve repurposed and re-worked that material and lore for Cobra Kai has been great. That’s the brilliance of Cobra Kai, it doesn’t ignore anything, and takes the best of it all and twists it all around for something new.
I've noticed that too, actually. Although not much, but I definitely picked up that detail. I thought like "whoah, young Ralph/Daniel is back somehow." I'm glad somebody pointed this out. 💙
man i love how they put in those deep sceens where he talks to mr miyagi .... its those moments that connect me back to the original magic of the films.
So many amazing roles. If I had to chose a favorite performance, it would be The Outsiders.
8:40 if there was a show of Mr. Miyagi’s life, and it would end with the scene where young Daniel is knocking, I’d feel like my life would be complete lmao
Ralph Macchio: 61 years old.
Pat Morita in 1984: 51 years old.
Is your mind not blown?
....WHAT???!!
60 not 61
also, Michael Ian Griffith (Terry Silver) is 5 months younger than Ralph Macchio ... wtf
no way lmao
Holy crap he looks good for someone getting into his 60s
Such a humble man. Loved his energy and what he brought into the entertainment shows since KK era.
*My 7th grade English teacher read us The Outsiders in class - I was 12yo. We were all in tears by the end of it.*
Me and my classmates were in hysterics when we watched the movie. It's hard to take things serious with immature Gen z students. When I watched it for the first time it had me in tears as well. It's for sure iconic.
He's one of those few pretty boy Hollywood stars who never ended up abusing drugs/alcohol.
Thank god
This is so true 😭❤️
Gosh, he’s still so fine me so darn attractive for the age of 60! He seems like the most down to earth, humble, and sweetest man in Hollywood
It just warms my heart see he is humble.
My favourite thing about cobra Kai is how the characters in it actually make relatable decisions and choices, like a horror movie where you’re like “don’t go into that room! You’re gonna die” then they go in and die, this isn’t that kind of show and I love it.
I enjoy listening to Ralph explain everything. He ages well, and I had the honor of meeting him at Megacon this year. He's so sweet, kind and down to earth. Loved his roles in karate kid and The Outsiders. True greaser at heart :) ❤
Man... I really wish y'all would've covered Crossroads, which is a fantastic film that didn't do well during its theatrical run, but one critics loved and where Ralph had a fantastic leading performance.
You saved me 17 minutes.
@@airbendingeagle2358 Ralph's performance in that film is fantastic. Just a good, solid movie of the kind that no one makes anymore.
Would have been awesome hearing him drop an anecdote or two about working with Steve Vai.
I asked him about Crossroads over the weekend on his book tour. You can see my question here at the 43:08 mark: ruclips.net/video/zf8hcNZ9ZHI/видео.html
@@Bringos76 That's awesome!
Ralph really is killing it in Cobra Kai. I couldn't be happier with him and his character. Everyone on that show is doing a great job.
I loved his performance in The Outsiders. Watched it when I was a kid in my 7th grade year, read it every few months since! Love!
The outsiders is such an underrated movie. I would say the book but it's being used in a lot of English classes as it was for me
After rewatching all 4 Karate Kid films, it strikes me that Johnny is a potential new father who needs to find peace, his center, and his balance. Perhaps Daniel can teach Johnny what served as a distraction to win against Mike Barnes. He should teach Johnny the importance and value of knowing his "Kata".
Fun Fact: Ralph’s sons name is Daniel
Coincidence
You want call me annick
And your name
I love every single one of the movies mentioned, ESPECIALLY my cousin vinny, I love the part where billy says “woah! wait a minute!” after realizing, it always makes me laugh, ralph never fails to get into character and I admire him so much for it
The karate kid is deadass my favorite movie of all time, crazy to see them bring back all the actors for cobra Kai
Would be surprising if Hilary Swank comes back
What happened to him is what every actor fears - that they will be typecast and will never be able to get another meaningful role. Glad he at least got to go back to the role that both made him and 'ruined' him. Obviously a very intelligent and self aware man, good luck to him.
My Cousin Vinny is one of my favorite comedies ever...i love it.
I like that he speaks so highly of the people he works with and takes the time to analyze the 'why' and the motivation behind his characters
Love The Outsiders stories. That movie changed my life.
Ralph is the Karate Kid always and he was so underrated In My Cousin Vinny too!
He doesn’t get enough love for My Cousin Vinny.
His recurring role in Psych as Nick Conforth was really good.
He was so funny in Psych🤣
Someone once remarked, "Johnny Cade died and was reborn as the Karate Kid!" I don't know how true that statement is, but it is ironic that Ralph did go on to play two very beloved underdogs. Maybe its me, but I've noticed more than a few times Ralph has infused some of Johnny's emotions and vulnerability into Daniel.
Who knows, maybe, in some alternate universe, Johnny Cade and Daniel Larusso are one and the same.
Ralph Macchio is a class act.
Would've been cool if you got to talk about Ol Lightning boy Martone working with Steve Vai at the crossroads. For being one of the most awesome guitarist...Vai (in interviews) seems incredibly humble. That's some kind of nice.
@8:39 I've been wanting the same thing for YEARS! Please make it happen!
Good interview. He's lucky in that he has not made many movie's, but the ones he mentions are, as he said, iconic. As a teen in the 80's the Outsiders was very memorable. And being a "Vinnie" I can always say "like as in My Cousin Vinnie" when introducing myself and people always remember my name with that reference.
I wonder how many times in Ralph's life someone has told him he looks like and/or reminds them of Sal Mineo 💕
He was pushing to play him in a biopic for years but it never got off the ground. Missed opportunity.
Let's do it for Johnny!!!! Let's do it for Johnny!!!!! Stay golden pony boy Stay gold...
I looked a lot like Ralph Macchio when I was younger. He's brought some amazing, iconic roles to life!
I'm really disappointed that my hands down favorite movie he's ever done wasn't even mentioned at all. " Crossroads " was a fantastic movie. The guitar duel with Macchio and Steve Vai was legendary. Joe Seneca " Willie Brown " and Jami Gertz roles in the film were great too. Tim Roth even does a cameo
Outsiders all the actors became big time actors and had long carrers amazing see them all together.
Geez what an amazing cast and director in "The Outsiders".
Ive seen My Cousin Vinnie twice in three weeks (and many times before that) and that scene with the verdict gets me every time.
In the 90's, I taught 7th-grade reading and would read The Outsiders aloud to my students a little each day in the spring of the school year. Once I finished the book, I would show the movie - this was when you could still show a whole movie to your students. It took two days - half one day and half the next day. Every year, the students loved it and found parts of it funny like when Ponyboy gets his haircut in the church, but they always cried for Johnny when he died. Even though they knew it was coming, seeing Ralph Macchio play that scene brought on real tears. The book and the movie are both true works of art that will touch the hearts of students forever.
I can NOT believe that this man is 60 years old. 😲 He looks the same ,just more mature. The Outsiders...LOVE....I love that movie.
I love him so much! Stay Gold Ralph😍✨❤️
Seeing him talk about mr miyagi is so nostalgic. Literal flashbacks to being a kid seeing these movies for the first time when my dad decided to share these movies with me back in the 90s/early 2000s thanks dad!
Loved this so much THANK YOU
This man aged well the fact the him and Thomas were they same age in Karate Kid 3 😳
Teachers is like a forgotten gem of a movie IMO. Would love to have heard him talk about it.
He and Crispin Glover were awesome in that movie!

though i do wish these videos included roles like *crossroads* or *teachers* because i’d love to hear him talk about those
I’m so proud of how well the series has been. Karate kid part 1 is and always will be my number 1 movie. Watching it as a 3 year old, it taught me that you can be what ever you want in life and the spirit of the movie never left me 🎉❤❤😊
Omg! I've been saying I would like to see Miyagi's story. They definitely should do a show about a young Mr. Miyagi.
People forget Ralph Macchio was in Teachers 1984, too bad he didn’t mention that performance! Ralph Macchio is truly a classic actor! 🥋
I was really hoping he talked about Crossroads, I love that movie so much!
The Outsiders book and movie will forever be my favorite, absolutely no movie or book will top that. I wish I could go back to my sixth grade english class and relive reading the book and watching the movie again, it changed my life forever.
Ralph Macchio may be best known for Karate Kid, but I think Johnny Cade was his best role.
" i was 30 looking like 20" i totally buy that... Wish I looked 10 years younger than i am
Macchio speaks tons of words very quick. karate kit rapper.
Legend. One of my idols as a child growing up
I love the outsiders such a great cast full of decorated actors. It will always stand the test of time IMO. Johnny Cade will always be one of Macchio’s best role
All decorated actors.
The casting person was brilliant
@@9876babyboy they got them all before they were household names. Crazy how all of them became well known

I’m so happy they talked about Johnny Cade, don’t get me wrong I love cobra Kai and karate kid,
But the outsiders is better than both combined in part due to his amazing performance.
I know he will mostly be remembered as Daniel LaRusso but I think he has the look to pull off other characters going forward. Similar to Daniel Radcliffe who is always known first as Harry Potter, but his career kept going.
Harry Potter?
Yes I agree
I watched the Harry Potter movies and read those books, I was a Potterhead before becoming a fan of The Outsiders.
Deeply disappointed by the lack of Crossroads here. One of the great guitar movies, it introduced teenage me to the works of Robert Johnson and was one of the main the reasons I started to play slide.

Absolutely agree.
Loved all 3 films- all classics particularly the Karate Kid trilogy.
really wish he talked about crossroads. that movie and school of rock are the movies that really pushed me to get into music. classic movie that rarely gets talked about anymore
Agreed we deffinetly need a Miyagi origin story. Kingsman showed their origin, it's time to see Mr. Miyagi's.
I think that'd be a bad idea. Mr Miyagi had this aura of mystery about his character and that's kinda like the man with no name who was a mysterious character.
An episode needs to be done with Anthony Michael Hall.
Can only imagine the stories he has
Awesome interview with Ralph Macchio
Would have loved to hear about his character in the 3 wishes of Billy Grier or Crossroads, but great interview, kind of teared up during the Outsiders clip...
