Hi Sean! Once again, you delivered us an amazing video. Its was simple and short and you not only explained how to play the song but also told us what makes it so special by using knowledge about scales, intervals etc. Please keep doing these videos, they are very useful to me and I bet they are useful to others as well. Take car man! Cheers, Miko
I don't know whether it's because I'm a Brit or whether I've been under a rock but I've only just discovered John Mayer's music recently and have fallen in love with it. Great deconstruction too! :)
It really does beef up the intervolves . I practiced a long time learning how to incorporate these technics into my playing style, it was so worth it . Great video man .
There are already pretty good tutorials on it (check out Thomas Gilbert. But yeah, I would like Sean to some more John Mayer :) maybe newer songs of his ?
You should check out Mild High Club. They are amazing psychedelic Jazzy band with pretty complicated progressions. I like Homage, Tesselation, Skiptracing, Windowpane
All those intervals are going to be in the scales anyway, so scales are an excellent place to start, but just keep being thoughtful about what you're doing and your ear will develop :)
I see in a recent interview that John Mayer says he has never felt closer and more in touch with his guitar than being part of Dead & Co. and playing all those Jerry Garcia guitar parts. Hear hear!
Not necessarily the 'interval' of a minor 6 BUT it's an example of using the 6th note in a scale (which is the natural or relative minor). So you can just slide into that 6th position.
Yeah that's great advice from Sean, any progression is simple if you just break it down to the root note. So simple is never bad, but if you're bored with it, extended chords all the way!
Anyone ever told you your oratory skills were very preachery? Its the added "uh" after certain words. Its not bad. Just interesting. Made me curious if you maybe went to seminary or were a preacher in your past life or something.
*salty blues comment alert* john mayer?wasn't expecting anything more from a blues poser ,you cease to understand the feeling of the old school exciting three chords blues,I bet you've never heard of robert johnson, do you know how blues is supposed to be? british, just like the salt in this comment pretty sorry about that i was intending to joke about saltiness that's all ,great lesson as always ,thank you a lot :)
Sean, am I alone in my heartbreak of seeing John playing Jacksons, WTF, his tone was way better with strats and I'm a LP guy so no Fender fan boy crap....????
SEAN & UR Dudes ? Again ? John Mayer is Only a CHANNEL for Stevie Ray Vaughn ! Who is Channeling Both Jimmy Hendricks & Eric (Is GOD) Clapton (and all the Stones & Beatles) ! Outstanding breakdown. Best lesson for this song. I've been playing guitar 6 months and find your teaching style informative and easy to keep up with.
Songs like this and Stop This Train show what a beast Mayer is
He really is a beast!
Yup! Easiest and most thoughtful lesson for this song out there. Thanks for all your wisdom!
Happy to help!

I don't know whether it's because I'm a Brit or whether I've been under a rock but I've only just discovered John Mayer's music recently and have fallen in love with it. Great deconstruction too! :)

I may have said this here before, but that is my all time favorite Strat looks. Sherwood green with a Rosewood fretboard. Perfect.
It really does beef up the intervolves . I practiced a long time learning how to incorporate these technics into my playing style, it was so worth it . Great video man .

You should check out Mild High Club. They are amazing psychedelic Jazzy band with pretty complicated progressions. I like Homage, Tesselation, Skiptracing, Windowpane
I'll need to check em out, thanks for the heads up!
Thankyou
If I learn all the scales, would I be able to put the melodies I have in my head on the guitar? Or I guess I need to learn the intervals too
All those intervals are going to be in the scales anyway, so scales are an excellent place to start, but just keep being thoughtful about what you're doing and your ear will develop :)
Sean Daniel i am interested in the diads & triads, they're cool. & You're cool!
I see in a recent interview that John Mayer says he has never felt closer and more in touch with his guitar than being part of Dead & Co. and playing all those Jerry Garcia guitar parts. Hear hear!
You can definitely tell in the videos I've seen that he's in his element there.
So how to use this song as an m6 interval reference? I'm confused
Not necessarily the 'interval' of a minor 6 BUT it's an example of using the 6th note in a scale (which is the natural or relative minor). So you can just slide into that 6th position.
how do you get the high harmony that he does as the song progresses?
Jonathan Titus get another guitar player
Yea but Sean teaches so nicely. Well. Let's see. I'll probably view another vid. Thanks.
Might have to do a follow up! :)
Sean Daniel can't wait!
Name of song at 3:20 ????

Sean Daniel Nice!!
Good tutorial man. Did you look up how to play this? because the notes sound very similar, but this is not the way he plays it.
Thanks for checking it out! I just went off a tab.
Florida the crazy state.
Can't deny that.
My chord progressions are simple, but I like how it sounds, but it's simple, help? :(
Jon D A who cares when it sounds good
Yeah that's great advice from Sean, any progression is simple if you just break it down to the root note. So simple is never bad, but if you're bored with it, extended chords all the way!
Sean Daniel thanks! Bc I want to create my first project and start it off with a simple chord progression, and solo over it!

You're better off now.

Anyone ever told you your oratory skills were very preachery? Its the added "uh" after certain words. Its not bad. Just interesting. Made me curious if you maybe went to seminary or were a preacher in your past life or something.
Maybe in a past life :)

Thanks for watching!
*salty blues comment alert* john mayer?wasn't expecting anything more from a blues poser ,you cease to understand the feeling of the old school exciting three chords blues,I bet you've never heard of robert johnson, do you know how blues is supposed to be? british, just like the salt in this comment

You are not alone! It just seems wrong. And the crazy expensive signature PRS amp with NO REVERB!?!?!
