I would say Gibson encouraged Epiphone to make this.
As a first guitar this model is great, it has the look, the sound and a built in toner....Gibson knows if it can retain that player/customer then in a few years they will buy a Gibson LP standard or two and they will have a customer for life.

In my opinion, it’s not that gibson is “letting “ epiphone make a very good product, it’s that gibson stuff is over priced. I’ve had my epi for 8 years and it’s just now showing wear. It’s hard to justify 2-3k price tag when they all pretty much wear out the same.

    Great video sir!
Almost pulled the trigger on one of those, they are beautiful for sure.. I went with the HB 450 plus lemon drop. Mainly because of the cutaway on back of the neck.

I got just the guitar new for $279 from Guitar Center and love mine! Out of the box it played and sounded great! Setup was decent but, I took it to the next level and got Slash pickups and dropped those in. Great great guitar for not a lot of money.

I bought mine back in 2018. And the only thing I have done is I put on some Dimarzio super distortions. My son got them for me for Christmas. But, the original pickups were good also. But this is my go to guitar.

Mike I noticed that you stayed away from the tuner topic quite a bit, except to say that they hold tune. They're the same tuners that came on my special too and they're the semi-closed type and basically junk. I had to rework and rebuild them to make them work properly

Very smooth playing Mike, that guitar really sounds great. Interesting feature with the tuner in the pickup, very convenient. I like the color of the fretboard on that neck it’s unique and stands out. It reminds me a bit of the neck on my SG bass.

Awesome playing Fulton. I wish I could play as great as you. I am so happy that I got my AFD Special off a dude on OfferUp for $100.00. It’s it great condition. Mine might be from 2016 according to the serial number. The fretboard looks like rosewood on mine. Epiphone seems to be using a fretboard material on their newer budget models that are ugly in my opinion. I have an SG Special in pelham blue that has the ugly fretboard. I’m not sure what Epiphone is calling this ugly fretboard? I am not a snob my any means. I love budget guitars.

This guitar seems to be an awesomely good instrument: and the kit price makes it Pretty much a steal.
(But even setting aside my total aversion to the "GibsonOfaB!t(h Company" and those associated with it,)
Unfortunately for me, This guitar not my cup of tea or my flavor.
But as always your review was very cool
