It’s not a bad guitar and great for keeping it around a room for song creation. I think the bridge pickup sounds the best with tone knob about 6. The weakest part of this guitar are the tuners. The tuners are really really weak. If you replace the tuners, the guitar will def be better
Excellent!! Yes. I was a fan of the neck pup, tone pulled down to around 4 ish. Gain and volume maxed on amp. Overall a wonderful axe. (Cheap tuners or not) They crushed those veneers.
I found that Guitar "left for death" on the Street, and i brang it home, it is in best condition, just one string i have replaced. Also i have the matching Amplifier. That brings me to this video. Thank you for that Video,
Traditional Les Paul feel. Same heel, normal access. (Meaning it feels like any LP, Epi or Gibson if you’re used to those upper fret access on the neck/body.)
These special models are no longer in production, but if you go to site like reverb or eBay and put it in as a saved search, it will alert you when someone posts one, in your feed. Epiphone just announced at NAMM 2021 the new Slash line up (they look AMAZING!!!). Check out the Epiphone website for more details and when they’ll be available.
Hi just bought a new Epiphone AFD Slash Special II. There was a gap between the stock and the body. Is it a defect or is the guitar built that way. The strings were also very high. Please let me know.
Hello Nivag!! Congratulations on your guitar!! they're awesome Axes!! "Gap between stock and body" do you mean neck and body...? The neck pocket should be tight. No gaps. Take a large (and please make sure it is a LARGE) head Phillips screwdriver and try to tighten the 4 Neck screws. If you don't feel comfortable working on your guitar (please, for the guitars sake, DO NOT EXPERIMENT :)), take it in to a local music shop, or have a local luthier take a look in your area. A second hand guitar is just that unfortunately, second hand, even if it is fantastic loving shape, there's a chance someone else had THEIR hands in it or experimented on it themselves. Good news is, as long as the truss isn't maxed, and the fretboard is pretty straight, you should be in good shape. (even if the neck has issues, the neck can either be replaced or repaired.) As for the string height, (Action) step one is to make sure that neck pocket is solid and the neck is firmly attached. Second, make sure you're in tune, and check your neck/fretboard to make sure its fairly level, adjust the truss if needed as needed. Third, get your stop bar tailpiece and bridge as low as you can to the body, *but make sure the Stop Bar isn't so low its forcing the strings to touch the back of the Bridge (this causes premature string breaks). Then slowly raise the bridge. I LOVE my les Pauls to have about a US Nickel height on the bass and treble side at the 12th fret. If there's any buzzing, I will raise in tiny turns. Maybe will do a set up video one day if people show enough interest.
@@thebiginstrument , Thanks for the reply. It was a new guitar so I returned it. Got a replacement which is super good. Will be changing the strings to get a better feel. The strings are a bit old.
This is not ultra high quality instrument intended for professional use. None the less is a great great option for getting to rock in bedroom sessions or playing with our friends in a band. I dare to say that if you make sure the setup is great and you put a set of higher quality pickups on it it is very good instrument for playing in small gigs. That is why I love this model. It really is a beauty on its own.
I would rock one on any stage, but then again, I’ll play anything and make it sound good… 🤷 and I think for a sub $300 guitar with a flame maple veneer and these are incredibly high quality for their price point.
@@thebiginstrument exactly! Yes yes that is so true. That is why I find this to be one of the best Epiphone products. I personally have this guitar, and a couple more of specials, one vintage edition and another with P90s. Man, what you get for the money is really good, with all the possibilities of making upgrades. And I definitely think like you, I prefer to center on my playing. So even if I´m playing a cow or a tennis racket, it will sound good! xD
@@mhdz10 hell yes! And thank you for commenting! I think these are actually super UNDER valued. It’s so crazy! If I had access to these types of guitars for the sub $300 usd market when I was learning to play?!?!?! Don’t get me started on loop pedals…. Might be showing my age here, but I can’t help but think… “man, I might not have had arthritis in my hands at 18 if I’d had something able to just … keep playing the same thing over and over…”😂🤣😂 Good for these younger learning players though. So much great new talent now with this access to higher quality instruments at a more affordable price point and gear that makes playing and learning MORE SIMPLE!!! I love it!! I’m excited to see what the new guitarists over the next few decades get to innovate and create. Keep playing man!!! Thanks so much!!!
As of today, it says there’s some available through Amazon. (Epiphone Slash Les Paul JR AFD www.amazon.com/Epiphone-Electric-Guitar-Performance-Package/dp/B00IQCRJ9Y) But cannot confirm on shipping availability or anything. Check reverb for used models as well as look on your local marketplace ads. They have released a new Epiphone signature slash AFD (Appetite for destruction) line that is very impressive. (A little pricey though in my honest opinion especially for Epiphone Alnico II humbuckers when they could’ve used actual “Gibson” buckers to justify the $150 increase in price)
All Les Pauls (by traditional specs) are mahogany body’s (and sometimes maple necks) with a Maple top (in the case of these, a maple veneer, or thin piece). Fretboard/finger boards are traditionally rosewood or ebony (depending on the country/wood supplier, will today be Pao Ferro, or grenadillo) All woods including fretboards will vary in color/darkness. Some will have figuring or nice streaking, some will have wide open wood grain patterns, some will be tight and smooth feeling wood grain. All different depending on the trees the wood is sourced from. Rosewood (and it’s substitutes) all typically have a reddish hue/tint. Keeping your fingerboard conditioned and clean will help maintain the natural colors of the wood.
@@thebiginstrument From website, it seems the body and neck are now Okoume instead of Mahogany. Not too sure if there will be any difference in the tone. I am a beginning and found this guitar looking cool. Also want to know if the Zebra Ceramic plus pickup here is the same as the 650/700 pickup set as in normal Special II model
Did somebody tear the part of the sticker in the back of the head where it says "CHINA"? hmmmm I suspect that the Q.C HK sticker is fake? because in mine both stickers say "China". :))
It's especially authentic because Slash's AFD guitar wasn't made by Gibson either :-)
Excellent!!! Yes! It was rumored to have built by Kris Derrig, the luthier. (A phenomenal LP copy and truly unique!)
True!

I bought one a couple years ago and put locking tuners on it. Now it's a lot better with them. But for 250 bucks it's a pretty killer guitar 🤘🤘
Great Stuff. I got this guitar for my daughter with all other required.
I got it for myself, and gave it to my daughter. I loved it. I had given my older son my casino years ago ✌️

Hell yeah!
How’s the tonal difference?
How is the upper fret access

I own this signature one
Is a good guitar with the amp
Slash tone totally blowing ur head..😎👍
I haven't been able to find one in stock anywhere, do you know where I could get one

Why some model of this guitar had different color of frerboard?

I just wish this guitar had the three way switch at the top, for some reason I hate the way les Paul’s look when the switch isn’t at the top
It can be a little funky. Once you’ve messed with enough specials though, kinda gets the SG feel with the switch at the controls.

I just bought this pack. Sold the amp it was awful. Quality guutar for the price of 300£ i paid.
This has nothing to do with "snakepit", this is standard Epi Special II AFD
…cool
Thanks for watching!
(Also, there’s a snake pit logo on the headstock, the amp, and the gig bag, but that’s close to nothing…)
