It is true, I was purchasing a new guitar at Guitar Center and tried 3 guitars.
A Gibson Les Paul Studio (~$1600 retail)
Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard (The $800 big brother to the guitar in the video)
and the Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue. ($1000 retail) that has Gibson Burst Bucker pickups.
I played and swapped between the three for a couple hours before I made my decision based on what both felt and sounded the best. My decision was the only one with Epiphone pickups the Custom Alnico 2 Pro-buckers and the overall feel with that Slash neck profile etc. sounded better and felt better to play than both the other options. So I can say it is true, the Epiphones pickups can sometimes sound better than the Gibson options for sure! So as a result I bought the Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard despite the fact that I could have bought the 1959 Les Paul standard or Les Paul Studio both having Gibson pickups, one actually being a Gibson product but the Slash LP Standard was just better in how it played, and sounded and looks absolutely stunning!
Btw I’m on my personal account that isn’t tied to anything musically right now but this is coming from someone who has a $10k studio, has played guitar since age 5, and although taking a break rn due to some personal life things but for the last couple years has produced countless songs for other individuals as a rec/mixing engineer so my ears are very well trained.
Glad I made the choice I did as it sounds unbelievable in the studio! A higher price isn’t always better for music gear, but its hard to know that when you don’t have coming up on 19 years of music experience, a trained ear and a well develop set of preferences in terms of instrument choice.

I tried gigging with one of these to see how it would perform and it sounded really good and I found that the neck pickup is amazing for doing lead parts when the tone is rolled all the way off! But it's a killer guitar for someone to start out on!

I found this kit randomly and bought it some years ago with a discount. Then I searched and understood it's the cheapest version of the afd les Paul , which actually impressed me. But the actual finish is in a Gibson model only and we talk about a lot of money. Now I'm thinking of buying the vermilion burst Epiphone cause the afd Epiphone has a very very similar colour with my starter Epiphone special kit guitar. And it doesn't make any sense getting it as an upgrade , at least the colour is not an upgrade, it's still the yellowish- orange

Mike, that Slash LP really came to you in overall good condition and except for maybe a few sharp fret ends there's really not much to do, it's pretty much ready to go out of the box.

NEW SUB! Glad to have run across your channel, we have similar lines of thinking about guitars and value. I have several Epi Specials. I passed up a great deal on one of these amber top AFD models a year or so ago (they were either $249 or $269 new at GC without all the stuff in the 'player pack') and I have kicked myself in the butt many times over it. Never seen one used out in the pawn shops and that may be saying something: these are keepers for most folks, evidently. Enjoyed this deep dive very much, thanks!

My best guitar besides my Dean vx. Love this guitar got my money worth out of it.

My second ever guitar was the Epiphone Snakepit in '99. It looked awesome but I didn't vibe with it, eventually sold it and I've seen them going for like, $1,200 used now. I wish this was around back then. I would have had no problems hanging onto it.
Newer Epiphones have got so much better. I had a 2010 SG that I got used for next to nothing. It just needed some fretwork, but was otherwise a total ringer.

LoL" I'm glad you are reviewing this one I been eying this one since they came out that's Awesome the pickups are killer ones out the box.. I love the look of this Les Paul a lot super low price tag on it 2.. I don't mind fret sprouts it gives me something to work on to set up to my liking... Hendrix liked 3/8th to 1/2" string height imagine that one a half inch high?! 😂 SRV liked a little less I think... i changed some of my guitars to a higher action and they sound better can't beat the clarity LoL" Sweet guitar FSB! Organic coconut oil I got to look in to that stuff 😎 Awesome video as always & honesty at its best also love how you roll FSB!

Thanks for watching brother. You would like this for sure. The Amp that comes with is is very nice. I expected it to be crap because the guitar gods mostly said it was crap compared to their 10,00000 watt Marshalls. It turned out to be a very very solid well build Amp that sounds great. Now mic it up and its absolutely beautiful sounding. The clean tones are spot on. 👌 Once again the gear God's are wrong. 🤪

Just got, what seems one of the last new ones in the UK. Fret ends not as bad as thought. Put slinky's straight on, only thing is the selector for the treble pickup is a bit temperamental. Otherwise a stunning guitar, great action for me a returning intermediate player. I've had a Gibson before and this is my favourite guitar I've had. May take it in to have a pro look at it, but seems ok to me.😊
    Another great video 🎉

Was looking for an honest review thanks!
I don't mind the bolt-on. Especially as someone who HAS broken a headstock 😉
The pickup selector is "odd", though I can see why they would put it where they did as a beginner guitar.
While that does bug me, the only thing that really irks me is the dot inlays. No LP should have dot inlays!
A serious question though: does it feel "weird" playing a flat LP? I've never played Specials.
I am looking for a guitar to teach my child on. I have been looking at Harley Benton SC's but since seeing this I may go for this kit.
But I would also prob use it for practice, or just strumming around the house, but I am curious if the feel would be a lot different than my regular LP's.

Not that bothered about the additional extras with this package doesn't have the amp just bag, picks etc. Can get the kit minus amp for 220 or the ebony satin e1 for 149. Just looking for a les paul entry tempted to pay the additional if this guitar has alot better pickups etc. Thanks

Personally, I loved the sound of these pickups for blues and Jazz. To me it was fantastic. Unfortunately, I let it go. Now, I find myself wanting another. Ot never hurts having the Slash name on it. But every one of these guitars is very acceptable. Some do require a bit of fret end filing I have found.

    I doubt that you would remember, That in previous postings;
I have clarified my feelings about the GibsonOfaB!t(h corporation and their Bastard companies.
I will qualify that with, A good guitar is a good guitar.
And the afore mentioned company; has many many outstanding guitars to their name; as have their subsidiaries.
And I have no problem buying used ones. From a private seller,
But the price is usually too prohibitive for what you are actually getting.
Case in point...This very guitar ..
The asking price for the guitar alone or with strap and gig bag "used"?
Is generally more than the new with amp bundle,
You have acquired and are featuring now,
Just one more reason to steer clear of " the GibsonOfaB!t(h corporation and their Bastard companies." Used or New..
(Just an opinion from someone that doesn't matter anyway)
Peace Out...And sorry for the long diatribe..
