So we have succeeded in stopping it moving via surfaces so much? If there is a way of stopping it transmitting so much through the air (masks?) to infect - perhaps that would cause a drop in THAT method of transmission?

They were also kept spotlessly clean with hot water, soap and bleach (cheap too) because the Consultant would fire any cleaners not doing their jobs - EVERYTHING in a hospital affects the health of patients, and everything was the responsibility of Consultants, NOT admins!

I do have a couple of questions about cleaning:
Does steam cleaning kill the virus, or are you more likely to inhale the virus in the steam cloud produced when you clean surfaces?
In relation to carpets and vacuuming, is the vaccume cleaner going to pick up the virus from the floor and if the filters do not filter it out, spread it back into the air where you are more likely to catch it in your mucus membranes?
This is particularly important for all public places, and cleaning contractors who may be vacuuming for hours at a time, and stiring up dust and viruses ready for the workers to breath in.

    • @thedarkdragon1437

Steam does not have high enough temperature to kill virus particles. As steam particles cool down quickly, what you feel from steam is the heat h2o molecules are emmitting away as they shed extra energy. Virus particles latch on to those bubbles and just travel further.
The steam only works when it's coming straight out of the source in very high temperature (150 degrees celsius or higher). But since water already boils at 70°C-100°C, it may just spread the virus, altho in it's damaged form, since virus outer membrane tends to destabilize in 65+°C. Thats the complex explanation.
In laymans terms: It will damage the virus, not kill it. It may and usually does end up spreading it

Good morning, Doctor Campbell. Just last night, my daughter and I were discussing the viability of the virus in water. We are very well aware that the high chlorine content in swimming pools will destroy the virus. However, we wondered, in the case of indoor swimming pools, if there is sufficient chlorine vapor in the air to kill the virus. Given the atmosphere at indoor pools is usually quite warm and humid, and that one is almost immediately struck by a heavy smell of chlorine as one enters the pool area, it seemed a plausible theory to us that the atmosphere at indoor pools might be deleterious to the virus. Have you any information on this question? Thanks, and a hearty wave from across the pond in northern Virginia. 👋
