Love your videos! Did the super Maxx upgrade a couple weeks ago and I love it! I definitely had to re gear it because the motor was getting SUPER hot. It got to 277 degrees before I realized it! So I geared down to 16/54 and after a heavy bashing/ racing session it only got up to 193. This is without any cooling fins on the motor. I have chopped up and made the year racing heat sink fit, and I will hopefully see what the new temps are tomorrow with and without fans on the sink. 😁
Love the SuperMaxx! Pretty crazy to break a metal drive shaft. I have ad my Maxx end over end 100’s of times, broken many parts, but never a metal drive shaft.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who switched out for the erevo 2.0 system but everything else is still stock and trenchers in the back erevo tires in the front. Just had to do it after Christmas. Was just not enough power for me with the 4s. 6s oh yeah!!!
Happy New Year!!! Mark and the RC Nation.. Man I would take that right back to the Traxxas store. Since it's rite down the road from ya.. I can't see that jump/landing causing that to snap.. If so those are some weak steal shafts IMO.. The wheels and tires look sweet. Might have to get them for my T/E maxx. That I built with a Revo 2.0 Trans in a Tmaxx chassis 😁. And a castle 2200 mamba combo.. its a beast for sure.. Suggestion when using loctite. Put a drop on a couple threads back not on the tip of the screw.. And give it a second to set up before install. The first few threads are what gets tightened into each other. So with the loctite a few threads back on the screw It will hold the screw from coming out. But won't be smashed/locked into the threads.And should be a little easier to break free bud.👍👍
I've been running 6s for a year. Here are my tips:
1) re-gear to 54/20 with a metal spur gear (better for motor heat and tires). I think that alone will help save any tires on the maxx.
2) I've tried proline trenchers and DuraTrax Hatchets MT (Hatchets have some fender rub when they balloon) and they've both held up well. The Maxx V2 tire compound may hold up better than Maxx V1 (which I destroyed on 4S). Please report back on your results as I love the look of the new V2's.
3) upgrade to metal driveshafts if you are bashing. The platic ones may warp with that much torque, especially if you use self righting.
These mods were on Maxx V1 with Wide Kit, I think it's equally applicable to Maxx V2.
The car is sooo much more fun on 6S, enjoy the new beast!!!

I ran erevo 2.0 tires on my maxx with the wide kit for a long time! Super fun. I started breaking alot of stuff however.
I sense that in my future also… hahaha

My wife drives a wide Maxx 1.0. I put the steel cv shafts, and erevo talons. We still break the hubs, or at least pop pins out of them. We gotta try those sledgehammers.

I got to my set screws without taking anything off. Underneath corner of the a arm the driver fits right in all four sides.

Came to the comments to say this. When I first got my X-Maxx one of the pins came out. They had them in pairs at my lhs. I think you can also just get the "rebuild kit for them for the small parts.

Easiest way to get to the driveshaft pins is to take the arms off. 5 screws takes off the bumper and skid, one for the hinge pin cover and then arms are out

Maybe that's unlucky, caz how a expensive cvd from Traxxas broke off so easily, but my v1 GPM driveshafts last me for a whole year and it's still going, for the whole year I only broken one outer drive pin and is under -20c with a lot of snow on the ground. ❄

You can get a driver in there. Mip bits for the win.
I was tempted to get a Maxx now that it has been revised, buttt I still can't bring myself to purchasing this truck knowing that I'm going to have to drop a couple hundo more on certain components that I feel should have been included from the factory (driveshafts, real 17mm hex, captured hinge pins, etc.) I mean, c'mon Traxxas, this is a 4s powered monster truck. Not to mention the servo and esc will probably need to go pretty quick too. Thanks for sharing the footage. Sorry to see your supermaxx didn't make it through it's first session. Probably just an anomaly.

I suggest you move the shocks to the outside holes. On the inside holes, they over extend and you will break the output cups in a crash. I busted 3 of them running backflip lp's on mine. I also bought some 16mm ID bearings, cut them apart to use the inner race as a bearing sleeve just to beef it up anyway.
