The result is excellent and proves once again that a great artist can create amazing paintings with low-cost materials.

More than anything, I heard a message about the importance of paper quality. Nice to hear about inexpensive paint that worth it. Thanks.

Absolutely. Never stint on paper, always get the best you can afford

From my experience, the paper is the most important of art supplies. Even artist quality paints do poorly on cheap paper.

Enjoyed the demo on cheap paints! Very helpful! Have never bought cheap paints for the archival reasons , but these seem good to play with!

That was really good to see. I normally use the Windsor and Newton artisan paints but recently I bought some from Lidl and they are really good for practicing with and excellent value. You get 24 tubes and they are 18ml, the colours are a really good choice too. 😊

Ooh! There’s a Lidl near me, I must keep an eye out 💐🎨

In the US, I got watercolor tube paints along with an easel I bought. I haven’t been impressed with the pans, but I have used the US Arts paints with a beginner watercolor class and found them appropriate for practice mixing colors and practicing brush techniques. The cost $29.99 for 36 18 ml tubes so it’s a good beginner set of colors to share.

A surprising result, I must say. I am curious about the light fastness of such inexpensive paint. Thanks, as always, for the demo.

Indeed! I don't think the lightfastness would be good, but doesn't matter if they are just used for experimentation and exploration, as I say in the demo, they aren't archival but great value for beginners to simply practice with

This was such a helpful video showing us that even at the cheaper end of the market great paintings can be created, the Lois Davidson magic shone through in the end. I wonder if you have ever dabbled with the Arteza range of watercolour or gouache tubes?

Beautiful painting and I love the earthy colours. It could easily be marshland or somewhere in the fenlands. Really lovely and I will try those paints when I’m skint. 😊

Great work! I am only learning at the moment and I use cheap watercolour paint, mid range brushes and paper. I get ok results, though still struggling with skies, that's me rather than my tools... it really has helped me feel more confident knowing that a professional finds these paints useful. Love the channel. Keep up the good work.

Interesting video. I once bought some paint brushes by the same company from The Works. They were awful, to be honest and wouldn’t form a point. It’s not until you’ve used better equipment that you realise that you’re not quite as bad an artist as you thought. Thanks again.

A pleasant surprise ! But can I exhort people to be extra careful with usual safety practices as nasty heavy metal, chemical and biological contamination can occur with very cheap paint. (A tutee who would mouth-point her brushes ended up in hospital ! ). Not to discourage anyone but maybe worth saying for any paint of unknown origin.
