"Forza is about collecting cars, Gran Turismo is about the sheer level of content" You mean Gran Turismo is about the sheer level of cars you can collect?
The reason why real life races aren't done in reverse are mostly for safety reasons. Since corners are taken in reverse, so does the angle of a potential crash change. Most, if not all, circuits are designed in such a way to only support gravel pits and such from driving the circuit in one way. Driving in reverse would require a massive physical reconstruction, and putting down new gravel pits and other safety things. Some tracks even make it impossible to do so, due to public roads being in the way around the circuits, preventing the construction of new gravel pits. Or even roads of the circuit itself blocking the position of where a new gravel pit would have to be made.
BTW You can actually race "24 hours" of le mans if you play it on race day (quick play) and set the timer to 24 hours (no pit stop) instead of 12 minutes. lol
Fun fact: Bathurst actually is in Grid 1! It was originally made for an unfortunately-scrapped V8 Supercars DLC, but its still in the game through the Prestige DLC (I think)
Been looking to a review of this for a while and now that it's here I wasn't disappointed 👍 Great job on the review and it'll be interesting to see how you get on with the other GRID Games :)

1:57 found good comment on steam about this: "Companies who release new games with the exact same title as an earlier game should be ashamed of themselves. When a company does this, they effectively remove the earlier game from existence. When a person says "GRID", how do you know what game he's referring to? Well, if you're the company, you want them to mean the newest game--that's the only game that exists as far as they are concerned. It's a disgusting, greed-borne tactic to increase sales, and shows that the decision makers have no passion or respect for the games that created the success in the first place. When companies do this, we have only one response: It's not Tomb Raider, it's Tomb Raider 2013. It's not Battlefront, it's Battlefront 2015. It's not DOOM, it's DOOM 2016. It's not Hitman, it's Hitman 2016. It's not Prey, it's Prey 2017. It's not GRID, it's GRID 2019."
Played it back when it was new and I really liked it back then. I did like the drifting and driving with the touring cars. The drawback is the bloody aggressive AI and all the broooooown. Fun game and it is a lot more fun than Grid 2 and Autosport.
@@cheesyeurotrance95 The worst is 2019 GRID (less cars, less tracks, barely damage model, dead multiplayer, overpriced, bad career, no drift, no derby, no sponsors, no tunning, no public lobbies and much more fucked up things), Grid 2 was good besides this weird driving model. Grid 2019 shouldn't be called grid, it's just next boring arcade game with less content so it can't compete with Gran Turismo or Forza. I'm regretting buying this shit to these days.
Have you ever thought about talking about Juiced? I remember Juiced 2: HIN for the PS2 very fondly, but the PC version (and X360-PS3) are quite different and don't feel the same to me. Love your videos!
I noticed this as well. I used to play it on my ps2. Since I don't have a ps2 any longer I played it on pc and it's totally something different compared to the ps2 versions. Ps2 games may be graphically inferior but are more superior when it comes to plain old fun and strategy
Had it for PS2 and Xbox 360, the newer gen consoles and PC had more features for ex the Veilside RX7 bodykit that the PS2 version did not have and better nitrous effects etc.
When I played this for the first time... I was flying all over the place since I was not used to the fast paced physics of this game. Edit: Finally completed the game, the physics became quite fun once i got used to them.
Im a sim racing fan, always been and will always be, but GRID is still to this day one of the game where i got the most fun while playing it. I remember not being able to put it down, i was literally addicted to it, even though it was an arcade racer, the intensity, the graphics and the immersion were years ahead of everything else on the market in my opinion. I also loved the cockpit view and the damage model, i truly loved this game, so much that its still in my top 10 of all time favorite racers even though its far from being a sim! I would love to get a remastered version of this game
This is my favorite racing car game ever. I think that the author of the video didn't mentioned what is, in my opinion, the most impressive thing in this game: the MUSIC...or better, the DYNAMIC MUSIC system ! Unfortunately this system is available in the game only during the head-to-head racing with Ravenwest once you finish a tier of challenges (there are only 10 in the whole game)...but is definitely worth experiencing! The faster you go, the more the volume pumps-up during those rare races. If you do an accident and you risk to loose concentration, the music goes quiter, waiting for you to catch up. Once you are closer to your adversary, the rhythm and basses kicks on harder and other instruments adds. It's something really exciting!!! If you want to see what I'm talking about, you can check my channel, I have some videos in one of my playlists.
GRID is such a classic, was one of the first games i played where you could actually race in depth with Le Mans prototypes and Group C cars. also yeah the handling is insanely good
Hey man you're not alone stay retro, your friends are the ones missing out. Many new games are also great but there's no reason not to also enjoy past classics alongside them.
Same here man. Just got Daytona USA 1/2 via emulator on my PC and just playing the fuck out of em. Also my local arcade have San Francisco Rush 2049 and holy moly it's amazing. Just kept playing the game for hours and seem to be no one is interested in it... Hopefully it goes for sale. I was even shocked that game cabinet had a clutch pedals as well!
This was the first modern racing game that really appealed to me when I was a kid and to this day it still remains my overall favorite. It's not realist, it has this dark aura I love so much but most people hate and doesn't feature as many cars as I wanted but has my favorite one (NSX) and to me this is more than enough. This game changed the way I saw racing games forever and is a spectacle of a title that I've played a lot on every platform. It represents the absolute peak for Codemasters and almost everything they developed afterwards wouldn't even get close to giving you the same feel the original Racedriver GRID always provides "Legendary" is as much as I need to say about this game, immortal and a must-play for everyone that loves racing adrenaline at its finest
Shame they could never recapture the magic of the first game with the sequels, The gameplay, visuals, cars, tracks, replays with that thumping matrix style music that made every race super intense.
A Le Mans race in this game is the greatest racing game experience i've ever had. GRID 2 is alright, graphically it looks incredible but the physics are a little weird, it's very powerslidey so you get the most out of it by barreling into corners full speed like a monster which is a lot of fun, but i did miss the physics of the original.
There’s a magic to this game’s physics that are obviously arcade but there’s a definite reward for driving as if you were playing a simulation game taking proper racing lines and braking at optimal points as well as how much throttle you apply mid corner and exiting the corner. I feel as though it was designed to act similar to a simulation game but adjusted the system to make it (very) forgiving as if every car in the game would drive as they would in real life but exponentially better (acceleration, braking, handling, oversteer/understeer, etc). Phenomenal design and very fun to brand newcomers and veterans of the racing game genre. It’s up there in my top racing games of all time. Hell I think I enjoy it more than the critically acclaimed Most Wanted 2005 nfs game
Would love to see a review of TDU 2! Its my favourite racing game of all time and very different to what you have been reviewing so far :) Love all your videos
This game reignited my love for racing sims, idk what it was but there was something about this game that kept me coming back for more, that AI was legit
Great review of an amazing game. I played trough this one and the second part too. Hard to believe, but Intel was one of the sponsors of this series, and it runs surprisingly well on intel integrated VGA's. So in 2023 it runs decently on any PC, I recently played it on a laptop with an intel 4th gen i3 with no discrete GPU.
I have a ps3 that it's only game was grid for almost 2 years, I've played it even at a rf tv through an composite to rf converter and only had gray-scale, that was my first game that I've ever finished... I've bought other 2 games that weren't even near the quality of grid for me, needless to say that this game was part of my life at this point, and i think that i still need to play this game in a proper tv that have an HDMI input to relieve this awesome feeling of being the best driver in the game, oh and strangely enough i'm really good at drifting, don't know how but I'm unbeatable by the AI
I LOVE this game, fok that last race against the cheap Ravenwest though lol. And the music, man, it has some great music. Also, love the cheats you get after you finish it, specially repulsor field lol, too bad you didn't mention them. On PC you can make your own custom paintjobs if you have the patience to modify some textures.
Honestly my only complaint about the game is the post processing filter. When using modifications that remove the brownish tint the game looks GORGEOUS.
You can't race on reversed versions of racetracks because of the safety measures. It would be deadly - the possibility of being cut in half by the barriers.
Great review as usual, but I can't help but wonder where the Forza Motorsport 4 review is... You posted the FM3 review 8 months ago, and you have reviewed several racing games since. I hope it is in the pipelines as this is the most highly regarded Forza game to this day.
To be fair, the only Grid game I got into was Grid: Autosport. I was browsing through the in-game store and saw it. I enjoyed it the most. I only played Grid 2 on ps now for few days but never renewed it. I didn’t know TOCA was a thing before Grid. I’m on the fence on buying the reboot.
Race Driver Grid was actually going to feature a V8 supercars as dlc with Mount Panorama. But it got cut due to licensing issues. But Mount Panorama was not cut as it made its way for a PS3 only dlc. Thr files for thd V8 Supercars got datamined by a few dataminers.
i remember this running on my dual core athlon, 2gb - 4gb ram (dont remember), and radeon hd3850 512mb...back in 2008...although its a pirated games, still can play online drift with no problem lol...well now i pay my games haha
I always loved to Grind this game and I even mod it to let you play All the Cars in every track/mode. It made more arcade and funny after your beat it countless times, but the thing that makes me come back to RD:Grid every single time to this Day is Drift. I just love it. You can make insane drifts and even it is very arcade, I feel i'm in control. Connecting every corner in 3 laps, making 20 million plus points is just Awesome and trying to make mountain drifts absolutely absurd speed is something that rewards more than almost any modern racing game : ) Thank for the "fresh" review !
You can download the DLC patch for PC which include Mount Panorama and Mazda Furai. Also it doesnt hurt to remove the orange filter in the config files. 👍
10 years ago, I've heard that laptop aren't optimized for Race Driver Grid. I believed that because my laptop back then, an i7, was able to play it, but when it comes to loading, it sometimes would get stuck. Also, one of the selling points of the game was that this game was developed by Malaysians, so that it would appeal to us Malaysians.
Someone might've pointed this out already but Mount Panorama is available as DLC. So technically there is one Australian track for the game, but I suppose it's not used in the career mode. Still a bit of a shame this game's track list isn't as expansive as the predecessors.
I dont want to go back and be disappointed by this game but in my memory, it was perfect. Different race types that were all enjoyable, an awesome mox of fun and challenging. Drifting that really felt like you were throwing the car's weight into each corner and great damage to cars for the time.
To this day I'm scared by how well-optimized the EGO engine is. Even my shittiest computers could run Codemasters' games.
To bad their greediness of dlc and taking content from a previous game they made and putting it back as dlc is stopping them from becoming better.

BTW You can actually race "24 hours" of le mans if you play it on race day (quick play) and set the timer to 24 hours (no pit stop) instead of 12 minutes. lol
A racing game that look mellow and depressing but yet professional and aggressive
0:39 piss filter included
Man I remember playing this game with my college mates. This was an incredible game. Completely hooked on it. Screw you Ravenwest!
Shioriko Mifune & Ayumu Uehara were the Ravenwest drivers in RACE DRIVER GRID.
Fun fact: Bathurst actually is in Grid 1! It was originally made for an unfortunately-scrapped V8 Supercars DLC, but its still in the game through the Prestige DLC (I think)
multiplayer freestyle drift events were the absolute best. the loading screen stats were great too. so much nostalgia
I´ve been looking forward to this. One of the best racing games of all time, and one of my favourite reviewers! Keep it up!
Been looking to a review of this for a while and now that it's here I wasn't disappointed 👍
Great job on the review and it'll be interesting to see how you get on with the other GRID Games :)
I still remember doing the last race vs Ravenwest with the koenigsegg ccx, it took so many attempts, and I managed to win it only by wrecking the guy and racing alone
Nathan McKane is so annoying in this game 😢 😭
1:57 found good comment on steam about this:
"Companies who release new games with the exact same title as an earlier game should be ashamed of themselves.
When companies do this, we have only one response:
It's not Tomb Raider, it's Tomb Raider 2013.
It's not Battlefront, it's Battlefront 2015.
It's not DOOM, it's DOOM 2016.
It's not Hitman, it's Hitman 2016.
It's not Prey, it's Prey 2017.
It's not GRID, it's GRID 2019."
Actually DOOM before was just Doom but, ye still fits.
This is just a self-entitled comment, the kind of guy that thinks he knows better than everyone else
the first grid menu music is fire tho lol
Yeah !
the rewind feature was a stroke of genius
Played it back when it was new and I really liked it back then. I did like the drifting and driving with the touring cars. The drawback is the bloody aggressive AI and all the broooooown.
Fun game and it is a lot more fun than Grid 2 and Autosport.
yeah the brown hurts
Autosport is better than this IMO, GRID 2 is the worst in the series though.
You can remove the brown by editing a single true to false in the hardware config save file. After you do that, the game looks brand new.
god this game was fucking amazing. those in-game voice tracks are burned into my brain forever lool
Mount Panorama was included as DLC if i am not mistaken
Yes it was!
I hear you man, this is an ace game. Just wrote something about it myself. Shame the multiplayer servers are closed now.
GRID is such a classic, was one of the first games i played where you could actually race in depth with Le Mans prototypes and Group C cars. also yeah the handling is insanely good
I dont know why but i enjoy older games and my friends think I’m weird bcuz I don’t care for the mainstream gaming ;/
Hey man you're not alone stay retro, your friends are the ones missing out. Many new games are also great but there's no reason not to also enjoy past classics alongside them.
I just downloaded this the other day and the damage physics is 100x better than 2019 version.
You ain't the only one I still play the maddens from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 era
You're not like other girls.
It represents the absolute peak for Codemasters and almost everything they developed afterwards wouldn't even get close to giving you the same feel the original Racedriver GRID always provides
"Legendary" is as much as I need to say about this game, immortal and a must-play for everyone that loves racing adrenaline at its finest
TOCA 2 Touring Cars on PS1 remains the greatest racing game ever made
BEST GRID GAME.
I want a motorsport 4 review !
Great video Spencer! 💙
amazing use of the PoP rewind feature sound effects and reduced-colour shots
Great review as always! Thanks for your amazing work!
8:10 Allan McNish corner, same car..... gives me goosebumps
Such a shame you can't even buy it on steam anymore.
due to expired licences
glad i already got it on steam
@Hussy buy the game on a disk. I bought my one years ago and it is a disk.
@Hussy actually they do? I've bought a key like two weeks ago. Maybe its currently out of stock
If you can get a legit Steam key, or buy it from someone else who still has a gift copy, you can still download it from Steam.
Honestly my only complaint about the game is the post processing filter. When using modifications that remove the brownish tint the game looks GORGEOUS.
3:39 You can actually make it 24h in real time via Race Day mode.
PSA : If you playing it on PC, don't forget to check the steam guide to get additional cars not available on that version
You can't race on reversed versions of racetracks because of the safety measures. It would be deadly - the possibility of being cut in half by the barriers.
Do you plan to review the rest of Grid games and Dirt series?
it's still the best game that gives the driving/racing feel the most to this day.
Don't waste your time and money, it's a snoozefest
Race Driver Grid was actually going to feature a V8 supercars as dlc with Mount Panorama. But it got cut due to licensing issues. But Mount Panorama was not cut as it made its way for a PS3 only dlc.
Thr files for thd V8 Supercars got datamined by a few dataminers.
I didn't know I could get this nostalgic over a video game I haven't seen in a decade
i remember this running on my dual core athlon, 2gb - 4gb ram (dont remember), and radeon hd3850 512mb...back in 2008...although its a pirated games, still can play online drift with no problem lol...well now i pay my games haha
I love this game I'm so glad ur reviewing it
i downloaded 2019 grid with great expectations to only find myself downloading original grid again after a few hours in the game.
Yea the crash physics in that game is fucking dog shit compare to a game from 08.
One thing about the 24hr race in grid is that you can set it to real time for a real challenge
Connecting every corner in 3 laps, making 20 million plus points is just Awesome and trying to make mountain drifts absolutely absurd speed is something that rewards more than almost any modern racing game : )
Thank for the "fresh" review !
Finally this review came out. I had a feeling it was coming soon.
You can download the DLC patch for PC which include Mount Panorama and Mazda Furai. Also it doesnt hurt to remove the orange filter in the config files. 👍
Still BEST Grid game !!! The last one , GRID 2019, is just quick DEMO cash grab game, avoid it please !!
I have to agree: I found ToCA 3 miles better than Grid, which I found a bit disappointing.
Are you gonna review the other Grid games? And also the colin mcrae dirt games?
Someone might've pointed this out already but Mount Panorama is available as DLC. So technically there is one Australian track for the game, but I suppose it's not used in the career mode.
Still a bit of a shame this game's track list isn't as expansive as the predecessors.
I dont want to go back and be disappointed by this game but in my memory, it was perfect. Different race types that were all enjoyable, an awesome mox of fun and challenging. Drifting that really felt like you were throwing the car's weight into each corner and great damage to cars for the time.
I thought Neon engine was a fork of sony's PhyreEngine
The GRID series is great but why oh why do they force the drifting events? Right after I finished a tense open wheel event. I hate it so much
I had this game back in 2009 I loved it
