- After a quick jaunt to the deserts of Nevada, the crew returns to Utah for a long walk and narrow ski. The goal, to ski a line that many have gawked at but few have gone to. Joining up with Cody is Pep Fujas, who fulfills a dream 16 years in the making and Ian Provo, a Wasatch backcountry ninja.
Starring Pep Fujas, Ian Provo and Cody Townsend
This is line 4 completed of The FIFTY, a project following Cody Townsend as he attempts to climb and ski all fifty of the lines and mountains chronicled in the book, "The 50 Classic Ski Descents of North America." The series documents Townsend's journey's, travels, challenges and each line and mountain listed in the book. It's a journey through the most majestic mountains and ski lines in North America along with a unique insight into how skiers make decisions in the backcountry, how they plan, navigate and safely move through the mountains and the people that dedicate their lives to the mountains.

Just rewatching the episodes. Man, you guys had some great first lines. Nothing compared to the sufferfests that followed.
Best series on youtube. Thanks for doing these Cody. Stoked for the Aemmers vlog! We were just up the street on the ole Grand Daddy the day you and Kevin/Chris did it
Thanks man. Really appreciate it.
The smiles on everyone's faces!
Again, another sick line from you guys. Nice to see one of the Provo brothers showing the way!
Really nice to link up with Ian for this one.
This series makes me so happy.
Easily the coolest series on RUclips. Late to the party but so glad I found it. Thanks for the awesome job!
Those turns at 4:33 are no joke... Skied this line for the first time last weekend and I think I side slipped that entire section.
Nice work Erik! It's a really fun line.
Man skiing is beautiful. Thanks for this series, love the ambition, vibe and quantity of epic content!
Look forward to watching every new episode. keep the goods coming.
North Thunder in the winter. Now that is an adventure! I've done South Thunder, that whole area is my favorite in the entire Wasatch
Stoked to watch the new adventures in '21
congratulations on concurring the sketchy needle and thanks taking us gawkers along for the ride!
Fantastic Series, thanks Cody for sharing!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this adventure!
Beautiful line in almost perfect conditions! Congratulations! ;)
Great skiing in that tight section. Loving the series.
Thank you, Cody and crew(s) for this fantastic work !
Great work Cody. Keep the inspiration coming.
Cody, you’ve nailed it with this series. Unreal. Endlessly entertaining, and shows what skiing’s all about.
Been loving this series
I really enjoy this series .. thanks for making it.
Best episode yet guys! Really impressive for us lesser skiers. Ready for the next one.
this series is the best !!!
great episode....those rocks steps where sketch.....nice turns boys....great filmage Bjarne!
Absolutely insane!!!
Dreamy! 10/10!
outstanding! thank you.
"The hike might be the best part..." Wow! Whole lotta rocks.... justalittlebit of snow on top... but the point is you found it and got at least 60% of your skis in it.
A bit like watter skiing behind a pickup truck on a road full of potholes after a thunderstorm! Good job!
One of my skiing rules is: 'Never climb higher than the first good turn.'
First use of “the adventure isn’t over until you get to the car.”
Love this one.
great RUclips serie cody :)
Fantastic filming and great skiing!
this intro! nice edit
Super rad stuff! Do your tails ever catch when jump turning in steep terrain like that? Real cool to see the technique on those sections.
This series is awesome dude, appreciate all the hard work, I know making the videos adds extra gear/planning/work . Sick that you teamed up with Bjarne been a huge fan of his since the work he did with Andreas (RIP).
Speaking of, is he skiing on the Andreas top sheet Salomons? Nice!
Thank you so much man.
Skiing is super fun
Cody, you skated past me on a skin track near Joffre peak BC a week ago after witnessing a bad wreck. Sorry I didn’t have a PLB to help you out. Hope everything worked out ok
This comment scared me a bit, but I'm glad everyone turned out ok.
Yeah!
Should have skied the NW coloir of Pfieff first and then up the needle. Two lines in the same day which have very similar approaches. Best of luck on the rest!!
Is that possib'e
Really enjoying this series! What a line. Cody, did you go with the setup you did because of weight? I feel like I'd feel way more comfortable skiing something like that with the shifts.
I hope you do bloody couloir this spring and showcase how fucking rad a sierra corn harvest is.
Great RUclips series! I put it right up there with the Italian girl bikini contest.
Please work with smith on a sg model with “glacier” features, a bit more modern styling. Really a solid model with side shields would be ‘all time’. I only wear smith and I think with what you’re doing, such a model would be a great asset. Keep it up Cody, love the series!
Well keep your eyes peeled, few things that might be right up your alley coming out very soon.
what are those shades? i need some so i can rip as well as you :)
thanks for the stoke , cant wait for the rest.
Smith wildcats!
All those jump turns after boot packing that thing must have sucked! (For the legs)
Nah, they're fun!
@6:28 - that stream gives me the heebee-jeebs!
Core shot ...2:11 Ouch !!
“O dark thirty...” 🤣
🔥
What gloves is Bjarne using in this video? Seem like perfect gloves for photography
Hey! One quick question out of curiosity, is it generally easier to ski steep terrain like this in snowboard or skis? Thankyou!!!
👍👏
@Cody -- can you describe how you are handling the camera work on these missions? It looks like you are each wearing POV cameras and at least one of you is carrying a SLR with video capture. Do you take turns with the SLR; e.g., first/last up/down?
There is a shot of the sony cam they use at about 5:30... But yeah, based on the credits there seems to be more than that and the gopros.
Pretty much it's Bjarne Salen who is shooting with a Sony A7s being willing to do everything we do, but then take out a camera and shoot it. Bjarne is doing 100% of the SLR shooting.
I've skied backcountry for almost 30 years. I've never been with a group who were all sporting absolutely pristine gear and high-fashion clothing like this group was. That was visually jarring.
Being sponsored has its perks
What no monoski?
4:27 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Yeeet
You should do one with Chris davenport
haha saw my car drive by at the end
is that downclimb there every year? I've never seen it before in other videos I've watched, maybe they edited it out.
Don't know as it's the first time I skied it. I imagine it fills in quite often but we were there early.
Yo Cody what's up bruh!
wow, how long did it take to get from car to top?
Not entirely sure, but at a leisurely pace, probably 5 hours.
Tell Pep that he needs to climb back up and do it switch now
I don't know much about snow sports. Why are so many of these lines couloirs? Just because they're challenging?
So, why is the little canyon called Big Cottonwood Canyon and the big canyon called Little Cottonwood Canyon?
BCC is longer than LCC
@@mattkaden3483
Thanks. I've wondered that for many years.
skis are made for snow
Bring Tony Lamiche next time
Has he ever left France?
Cody Townsend i don’t think so.
First
Why hike right up the line? Why not up the side of the line? I'll never understand this move people do alllllll the time...ruining that awesome pow pow...
