Duck is a great example of how to make a jerk character funny, and given how Duck only agreed to search for Yellow Guy because he finished his picnic…yeah, I can definitely see him as a jerk character. Maybe you could argue that those events were only in Yellow Guy’s dream, but that’s still how Yellow Guy thinks of Duck.

It's honestly pretty funny that of all the failed, unbearable jerk characters that have existed over the past few years, the most endearing, funniest jerk character is a duck puppet.

DHMIS is just one of those shows that are a blast to write fanfics about. The characters are so fleshed out and have so much chemistry, you don't really have to think that hard when coming up with scenarios and about how they'd react.

  • @danny4607

This is how ive always viewed them: The trio are a family but theyre all different generations. Yellow Guy is childhood, Red Guy is early to mid adulthood, and Duck is the older generation. Yellow Guy is self explanatory, Red Guy is constantly searching for ways to leave the house, which could be interpreted as him growing up and moving on, maybe even taking the father role with Yellow. Duck is the grandparent generation, knowing enough to function but not enough to thrive in this current time like being a little too harsh to Yellow Guy as a way of discipline or teaching, always trying to insert himself into the situation so as not to be forgotten about, and trying to help or take over the parental role entirely because Red isnt doing it right. Idk its just so funny to me imagining them like this, Red guy trying to raise Yellow with Duck barging in trying to show him how its done (and ultimately failing)

Makes sense that he'd carry the jerk role; most trios tend to be idiot, ignored voice of reason, jerk (Ed Edd n' Eddy, Meatwad Frylock and Shake, Billy Grim and Mandy). With the other two roles filled by the other two members, there's nowhere else Duck Guy would go.

I would say that with Duck Guy, they took what were minor aspects of his personality in the web series and expanded on it. Duck Guy did have some Jerky moments in the web series too, like insisting on looking for Yellow Guy AFTER they finish the chicken.

I think the best example of a basic, nothing character being fixed is Rob from the Amazing World of Gumball. He starts off as a nothing background character with virtually no role in show, and is recognized as such as time goes on. Come season 3, Rob is made into the show’s main villain, and his main motivation for that is because of his role as a nothing person. (Now of course he was erased from existence first but y’know)

I feel another character who has a similar issue (ironically also coming from a Web series) is Millie from Helluva Boss.
Like Duck Guy, she really only gets bits and pieces of characterization which makes her fairly weaker compared to the rest of the cast.
Only difference is that Duck Guy would go on to have great characterization in the show.

Thinking about it, another character that's similar to OG Duck, Bucky and Stereo would be Starlight from My Little Pony Tales (1992).
Compared to the others, you don't really learn that much about Starlight. Sure, she takes on a leader role from time to time and works at the ice cream parlor that the other ponies hang out at, but that's about it really. There's only one episode that where she's the main focus and it's about her crushing on a boy. Bear in mind the series ran for thirteen episodes, so it doesn't really add anymore depth to her character. There were comics released in the UK, so maybe they flesh out Starlight there, but I don't know for sure. 💫

Over the course of the series, Duck has killed:
    - a butterfly (Pesky bee no. 1)
    - a maggot (Pesky bee no. 2)
    - Warren (Pesky bee no. 3)
    - a copy of himself (in the Death episode, i still don't know if it was the real Duck killing Stain-duck, or the other way)
    - a bread child (in the Family episode)
    - a fly (in the Transport episode)
Also, in Friendship episode he mentions "documents that led to many deaths".

  • @troin3925
    @troin3925 6 минут назад

I don't know if it's official, but Duck Guy actually has an auto-biography about his personal home shredder called "What about my shredder?: My personal shredder?" For the quotes on the back, it's the other two characters and all they say is:
"I'm friends with my dad." - that one
"This book is really boring. It's just "What about my shredder" over and over again." - the other one
Red Guy is correct, the entire book is just Duck Guy's solo "What about my sshhhhhhhhrrrrrreddddddaaaaahhhhhh? My personal sshhhhhhhhrrrrrreddddddaaaaahhhhhh?" over and over again. Just full pages of it nonstop. It's on Amazon and TV Tropes has a link to it.

One character like that type was Tord from eddsworld. Back then all the characters were the same with the only things different were the things they liked. The real reason Tord was written off to leave was because he didn’t like how the fans treated him and as the three remaining characters got more different from each other, tord came back in the finale as a villain who wanted to take over the world which is hard to see in the old episodes except from him having violent tendencies.

It's kind of funny. I don't think the duck guy was intentionally supposed to come across as a jerk in the original webseries, he just made a few off-handed remarks that might've came off as negative to some viewers because of how blunt they were, most of which were targeted at yellow guy. Now in the show, this has become one of his defining character traits, and he pretty much hates yellow guy.

The character was too boring, had no character, and there were no stories to be had... That was the popularized classic justification for writer Gerry Conway choosing to kill Spider-Man's love interest Gwen Stacy back in 1973, a justification that ignored that Gwen Stacy being "boring" would have been the responsibility/fault of the writers. While it was long debated whether Gwen was "boring" in the first place, the "fault of the writers" part particularly seemed to show through with future movies, animated series, and even comics that did better with Gwen Stacy. Mind, further comments by Conway arguably brought his whole justification into question, and perhaps raised some questions about Conway himself. Conway openly stated the belief that only a "damaged person" could end up with a "damaged guy" like Peter Parker, and that he couldn't understand how Peter instead ended up with a "babe" (Gwen) who was "perfect". Conway went on about how Stan Lee had a fault where he'd base female characters on his(Lee's) "very attractive" "babe" wife.
