  • I'm self-studying Japanese, and it's not easy! So I've searched RUclips for advice, and collated some of the most common tips in this video (plus my own take on them based on my time limited reality)
There are a bunch of incredible RUclipsrs out there, I think you should definitely go and watch some of their study advice. Only naming a few below!!!:
‪@LindieBotes‬ (thought through and real, thank you Lindie!)
    ‪@TokuyuuTV‬ (great energy, inspiring)
    ‪@KoreKaraPodcast‬ - • How I Learned Fluent J... (FUN & lots of other content)
‪@emigrace‬ (studies spanish, but down to earth and I feel I connect with her)
    ‪@AllisoninTokyo‬ (relatable, honest)
    ‪@AliviasNook‬ (practical)
‪@bunsuke.nihongo‬ (quite advanced japanese learner but some nuggets of wisdom and advanced interesting resources though there are no links to the resources eh mentions)
I'm exploring my Japanese heritage by learning the language Subscribe to come on this exploration adventure with me!

Re immersion: I find that listening to Japanese music is great! Also love podcasts in Japanese as well! It's absolutely not the same as full immersion, but it is certainly better than not!

Learning Japanese is not something I planned to do. I started learning to play the shamisen a year ago. With lessons in Japanese only, it seems like a natural progression to learn the language and music concurrently. A unique challenge I am definitely up for.

I want to add to the encouragement. I have been learning Japanese for over a year off and on... Only within the past 2 or 3 months have I been consistent. I'm using Japanese from Zero (which is a little easier for self-study than Genki, but a much slower pace)... After all that time I'm only on chapter 6 of Book 2 out of 5.

You are misunderstanding that immersion is optional. To become fulent you need immersion. Good way to think about it is that everything else is just there to support immersion or at first make it possible. It might take years to build up for immersion but it is still just build up.

Japanese is one of the easiest languages to speak. But they decided to add unnecessary "code" like kanji just to make it inaccessible for everyone else. Kinda like C+ or Java script.
