    What’s something you’ve been postponing for too long?
    P. S.: Small correction: I’ve pronounced it as in a word, mia, but it should be as in an acronym, M. I. A.

    About 10000. I found guy on RUclips who take all subs for every show on netflix and used text analyzer on them. So, for understanding 75% of netflix show its enough to know 1000 words. But if your goal 95% - its 13000 words.

      Thanks for sharing!
      The MIA quick start guide also contains some information on how to automate this process.
      As for 13k words, I'm somewhat in the middle I guess. Way to go^^

      Works only if you're already on a good communicative level or if you don't have a language in common on a level that makes communication faster. In a relationship, you usually want to communicate effectively and not struggle too much, hence people use the language that serves best for communication.

    Imagine if i had spent the past 5 years watching anime with no subtitles.

    • @obamascock2169
      @obamascock2169 2 года назад

      Doesn't really mean anything if you don't understand the grammar. You can spend 10 years watching Japanese content, and still have hardly a clue what they are saying. I tried this approach when it came to Japanese, just watch Japanese content zero subs, then I realized that it's a big waste of time. I then decided to go onto learning the grammar basics and my Japanese skyrocketed. Seriously, understanding things like Particles, Polite/Impolite verb conjugation, Ta/Te form, different i/na adjective negations, etc makes your Japanese step up to a whole new level. Also being able to read Japanese is an important skill you can't get from anime. Reading Kana/Kanji takes lots of practice and years to get really good at it.

    頑張て!
    Learning Japanese since September 2018 and Anki is really great tool, if I knew about it back in highschool life would have been much easier and perhaps I would remember some of the Spanish and Russian they were trying to teach me there. Unfortunately I am still a bit strugling to figure out how to incorporate grammar into it

    • @JapaneseJourney
      @JapaneseJourney  4 года назад

      Yeah, learning a language in school is definitely less than optimal.
      Back when I used to learn grammar, I would read the rules in a book (like Genki), then input the sample sentences into Anki.

    something i would want to tell myself back when i started
    would be to 'anki' against the program rather than (torturing) myself
    -just spamming easy and again's (i was fixated on the hard button)
    and 25 kanji per day was quite.. was very.. very inconsistent
    so i had to set the limit per day to 200 from 9999
    otherwise i would have 1000 reviews
    and i was only at 600-900 kanji
    should have restarted the whole deck with less per-day new kanji(and without actually skipping a day lol)

    • @JapaneseJourney
      @JapaneseJourney  4 года назад +1

      I totally agree with that!
      All the ideas that went into RRTK aside, what really made the difference and helped me maintain the 25 new cards / day, without having it turning frustrated or crazy, was Matt's advice to not use the hard button.
      It still took me 90-120 minutes each day for other reasons, but I'll touch on that in another video

    Matt and Yoga have done an EXCELLENT job of improving and fine tuning the language learning process that nets the most results the fastest. Start active and passive immersion as much as you can stand it, and learn your Kana. Start your kanji with lazy-kanji to give yourself a little help with RTK in the future, and start sentence mining. Of course, this is an over simplification, but Matt and Yoga are working their butts off to really fine tune the process and help people learn a new language. Thanks for the shout-out to this AWESOME system!
