After watching well over a hundred of his videos, I think there are three principal reasons why this channel is so popular. 1) he checks out interesting products. 2) he generally seems to say it like it is and describe things from/to a layperson's perspective. 3) he is likeable and quite charming.
These are EXCELLENT for people who are hard of hearing because it relies on bone conduction as opposed to a possibly damaged ear drum. Also EXCELLENT for street runners and cyclists so they can hear oncoming traffic. I also use them often in my office - I need some white noise to maintain focus but if someone comes up behind me or needs my attention I can hear them without them having to tap me and make me jump not
+GracieLou They still rely on your ears to function properly. Bassically the sound travels through your bone into your ear dum, instead of through the air into your ear drum. you still need your ears to convert the vibration into something your brain can understand.
+martinshoosterman Even still they don't use true bone conduction technology. If you plug up the speaker openings the audio isn't really intelligible. These are more like a cheap commercial version of the technology.
+martinshoosterman actually, if you did your research, you would know that bone conduction headphones directly bypass the eardrum and transfer vibrations to the bones that "decode" the sound waves to something our brain understands
+Logan Leavitt Lol and if you did your research you'd know the only way to achieve true bone conduction is through direct contact with the bone. Hearing aids that utilize the technology have to be surgically implanted in order to achieve proper sound.
From this video, I actually got them and I will admit, they are a different sense of hearing. The vibrations can be intense if set too high, but under normal volume, it isn't noticeable. They're also very light and have one of the most useful features possible: they put the pairing instructions DIRECTLY on the inside band of the headphones! No more looking up manuals!
It's not bad. It's a bit hard to describe, because the bass isn't the same as normal headphones, in the sense that it has 'feeling' now. Not a lot of feeling, but its there. These won't be competing with any Sennheisers, but when it comes to mid-high range, these things are king. Again, bass is good, but too much and too high of volume can make them vibrate.
Thunder breaker none. It may seem like it if on a surface or if held, but that would be due to the bone conductors vibration. When worn, there is zero bleeding.
every review i've read no matter the brand says there's sound bleed through. noticeable bleed through. which is a shame because i want them. biking and walking is fine, but at home with other people it can be a problem.
I have the older version, the Bluez 2 (No S) and I love them. They bleed more than the newer one and I also lost my adjustable strap because the slot it fits into cracked and wouldn't hold it anymore. Still easily worth the $100 I paid for them on amazon. I've been a owner for over 9 months and I have never regretted my purchase. I use them everyday. It is especially useful for driving cars and motocycles since I can hear the traffic around me and a sick beat.
Evan Diliberto its pretty easy to do all you need is a 3.5mm Y-cable and a bluetooth transmitter (Reflexion AD3 for instance) but you also need a way to delay the sound and adjust for the lag. Even 2 different brands of bluetooth headphones can have lag. Anything above 20ms lag will be quite noticeable and sound bad.
+Hakar Doski The bass is pretty shit on the bluez. I just bought a pair of the Titanium headphones and i have to say its a great sound upgrade. the bass still kinda sucks and theres a bit of bleed but its a great upgrade from the bluez 2
Noah DeJesus yup. extremely lightweight and flexible. after almost 2 months of having them i have to say that i love them. they are my everyday headphones.
Might be a stupid question, but if it's technically played through the bones, could this help deaf people here stuff? I might be completely misunderstanding the product, but if anyone has an answer I would really appreciate it. Thanks :)
I believe it can help people with hearing loss, but it depends what part of the ear the hearing loss is caused by. I've seen some comments on reviews of the new Aftershokz Titanium Trekz from people using them this way
Actually the bone conduction leads the sound from bones directly to the mid ear! so, if the ear drum is damaged, then this will enable them to hear but if the auditary nerve is damaged, then unfortunately it wont!
I am profound deaf, and yes, it does help! However it is not in "hearing aid" mode, which means hearing things from outside and amplify them to your headphones directly. But it has been a BIG help, as I am able to play better in games, being able to tell where shots came from (right or left?) and all that jazz! Also I am able to enjoy music as well rather than having to place my feet on subwoofer blaring like crazy.
If you plug your ears with these on, you'll only hear base, so unfortunately it's not the best experience. Otherwise, it works about as well as you'd expect.
These are great tech for those of us who deal with tinnitus- putting ear buds in makes the ringing in our ears feel louder, so using bone conduction actually is more "comfortable" for us.
why not i know that some invasive teatments for deafness use that principle i just wonder if the gadget can be applied to medical field with some minor changes to avoid surgery
This type of bone conduction is used by many single sided deafened people (deaf in one ear). basically the hearing aid is on the deaf ear, picks up the sound which is connected to a similar type of device that conducts the sound to the other ear. They are commonly surgically implanted. In fact, there are some that have bluetooth capability, so you could literally pair your head with a phone.
+Vincent Harry I am DHOH (Deaf / hard of hearing) in one ear, and I use a "normal" in ear hearing aid, BUT I can connect it to my phone and a total of 0 teachers know I listen to music in class.
JAC(K) : Just A Camera --- Lews' "buddy" of sorts... He has also shown Jack in some videos pointing towards the camera placed about at 2 o clock direction
I watched this vid and bought it and now I'm back watching this using it, it is great. It's truly amazing. Thanks unbox for your vids or I would never have found all these amazing tech stuff
I've got the Titanium Aftershokz and your description is spot on. Not going to replace your favorite music headphones, but they are comfortable and good for listening to everything ranging from music to podcasts, while allowing you to hear whats happening around you as well.
ajinthevalley NS The rings around the ear will add pressure onto the glasses, I have similar build (necklace/collar-like) headphones and it build pressure. Depend on how right it actually is.
I have a pair that I use every day at work. Personally I put the arms of my glasses on the outside of them and they're fine, putting them on over my glasses isn't ideal though because the glasses reduce the gripping pressure of the headphones which can make them a bit harder to hear as well as more likely to slip out of the correct position. They don't make much noise so having the right pressure in the right spot is very important.
What I ask is whether it has spatial separation nailed down... Imagine the driver placed all around the ear, so you can nail down the direction of the sound coming fron 360• And... Doesn't Microsoft HoloLens use Bone Conduction too?
Glad I saw this a while ago. Found some for cheap on Amazon and was needing to replace my earphones that had died anyway, this video definitely helped me decide!
We used this tech in the navy for in squad communication, and it was always hyper dependable, and clear, and being that there was no sound leakage, it made for safe communication even in close quarters.
There is so much hype about these kind of products and there is a huge variety of them. Glad you did a video on them lew! Nothing beats it like some good old Unbox Therapy treatment!
Bought them, Love them. Best part is using them in industrial environment. I am able to take phone calls and listen to music while wearing hearing protection. The noise canceling mic is great. welder, grinders, vac trucks, backup alarms you name it, still able to hold a phone call!!
Possi N that’s funny, are you trying to make “Codec Call with Otacon” from Metal Gear Solid, lol? Just kidding but seriously, that looks pretty cool & how much are they? What website are they on?
I own these and man can I say their amazing, Talk about having the best sound in your head. I've recommended these to several friends. @Aftershokz rock. Oh and yes they tickle.
A quick explanation behind this. The cochlea is a organ in your ear that that takes the vibrations and basically convert it to the sound we hear through nerve endings.
I heard somewhere (Scishow I think) that rhythmic vibrations on your bones have a sort of healing effect. One example of this idea is that cats' purring could be how they quickly heal themselves. If that same concept worked with this headset instead of earphones, it could be a way to heal head injuries while listening to podcasts or music :P
Jay Zhou I have a pair up the higher level titanium model and while overall the sounds better than I expected the bass and some mids drop unless you plug your ears with the provided plugs or others then you get the full range
Wistbacka I have the trekz titanium, I love em. They are nice at work (I am an industrial electrician, so I can wear earplugs with these on, and I don't deal with many people at work, but when I do I can hear them)
HEY MAN THANK YOU SOO MUCH I ordered them as soon as I finished watching your vid just got them today and it gave me such a different feel on music and even some what changed my taste of music just cuz of the bass awesome video thank
I would prefer regular earphones for ASMR, since they drowned out the outside world. To get the best ASMR experiance, you have to have nothing but the ASMR sounds playing.
as a heads up, sound is vibrations going through air but it can also be transmited through other stuff, like if you hit a metal rod against a wall it will vibrate and make a sound. thus thiz device will vibrate your bones and make sound. btw this vibration is the resson you hear your voice diffrently than others. sorry for the bad English :C
I love it how he seems so confused every time he reviews anything. He has no idea of anything he talks about and he still gets millions of views. The unexpected virtue of ignorance I suppose. People like watching people who don't know.
He is unboxing it as a consumer. and as such someone we can relate to. Obviously he won't be an expert on every unboxing. the variety is too broad. not to mention he's a great unboxer/entertainer hence his success in RUclips.
uriel acosta He is a good entertainer, but as a guy ho likes to know what he is talking about, I hate watching a guy who has trouble explaining vibration through his parietal bones. No justifiques su ignorancia jaja.
+Andrés Legorreta His style of making videos has changed since the past few months, i've been considering him more of an entertainer than a reviewer. If you want to watch a proper review, there are many other channels. If you just want to get an essence of a product in a chilled out manner, i think no one beats unboxtherapy!
I got these . there is heaps of sound leakage. its not 100% silent . like he said its just so you dont have to block your ears for safety reasons. the sound is pretty good though you dont get any Bluetooth hiss you do like with dr.dre beats .
They may be annoying and cause more headache than regular headphones but for people those "air conduction" is impaired it will open a new world for them. This technique has been available for quite time as medical equipment but to see it on consumer bases is a nice touch.
I like how they are different from everything else. Now that they have a newer model in blue. (although for $129) I want a pair. Will be a perfect pre-christmas gift for myself. I just added them to my Amazon Wishlist.
how does this fair in loud environments? I want to use these to hear my metronome app for my band (I'm the drummer), I'm currently using in-ears but which block out too much sound that I can't hear my band (we're low tech, no band mix in my ears). I'm hoping this will help me hear the metronome as well as my band more clearly.
There's nothing blocking your ears, so you will be able to hear your metronome and hear your surroundings with the same amount of clarity. You will be able to hear your surroundings more clearly than any other headphones on the market for that reason alone. (The reason being that nothing is blocking your ears.)
I just ordered a pair. I'm a bike rider and wanted something that would allow me to hear my surroundings and stay on my head while moving. I hope these do the job
+harold pro Bluetooth radiation also 🤔 mobile.journals.lww.com/thehearingjournal/_layouts/15/oaks.journals.mobile/articleviewer.aspx?year=2012&issue=06000&article=00012
+William Simpson it wouldnt work because bone conduction just means that the bones act as a conduit for sound to travel to the eardrum. Since your deaf the eardrum cant pick up sound or translate it. so no it would not work.
I have these and I love them. I suggest getting a pair of hero type earplugs that musicians use to block some of the outside noise. They make them sound so much better, the bass really comes through. The good thing about the higher quality earplugs, is they don't muffle outside noise, as they cut all frequencies equally, and depending on how far you insert them in your ear you can still hear what's going on around you. Another use is to be able to listen to music and audiobooks/podcasts at the same time. I pair the Trekz to an Ipod and have a set of Airpods connected to my phone. That way I can mix the two together, and as a bonus the Treks sound better with the airpods in my ears, same affect as the earplugs.
+Chuk Stoskopf No, these still work by vibrating the inner ear, just with the added step of going through bone. Unless these directly stimulated the part of the brain responsible for interpreting sound (they do not), they will not work on deaf people.
well cuz they not produce truest sound like normal headphone/ earphone. but overall good enough for me, i have one and use it when i do project at school, so i can still hear what people said
I was recently given a pair of bone conduction headphones as a gift, but they're not Aftershokz - do other ones create sound when you're not wearing them, or are they quiet? In a quiet room other people can hear what I'm listening to, but they're great for driving or at the gym
Why don't a few of my subbed channels' videos don't show up in my sub box? I wanna see what all my subbed channels have posted, not just the ones I recently watched or something. #YTPlsFix
This is great for those with conductive hearing problems. If someone has problems with their ear drums or surrounding areas, then stimulating the cochlea directly is the way to go. Would work better if they are placed behind the ear though, right on the mastoid. Very cool product.
Bone conduction basically means it's sending the sound vibrations through your bones rather than through the air like the sound we typically hear. The three smallest bones in your body, which coincidentally are inside your ear behind your ear drum, actually use this method for your hearing to send the vibrations of your ear drum to your inner ear.
If anyone happens to read the comments, I can recommend these especially for motorcyclists. You can wear earplugs, but still listen to music and have some situational awareness left when it comes to audio. Also, helmets push these against the temporal bone, so the sound is way better than just wearing them normally. 10/10 for motorcycling.
I have a BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) I was one of the first to benefit from this implant (like Cochlear implant) back in 1994 as in the ear hearing aids would not give me sound whereas BAHA allows amazing hearing :) :) :)

+Kamal Tailor How are you verified?
He s not dashie
+Kamal Tailor Im really confused why your verified??
+TackStash779 he's verified?
How does it sound when you use these and regular headphones at the same time?
+Bernd F. I think brain melting happens. Or just super high quality music.
+Bernd F. you won't hear the one but you will feel the bass of the bluez 2s
It'll probably just sound like putting on 2 songs at the same time
first of all its hard to do because it's blue tooth but I figured out a way to do it and it sounds shitty
Anything above 20ms lag will be quite noticeable and sound bad.
idk why but your vids r like super calming to me
Something fun to test: Use a Y-splitter for headphones (some amplification would be ideal) and use both these and in-ear headphones :P
And use a pair of over headphones on top of that xD
And the new subpac that he just reviewed!
The LG v10 does dual play, bluetooth and headphone jack at the same time, a little bit of a delay
Nd maybe direct the lower freq to the bone conduction and let the rest go through the headphones
now play a bass boosted tune on that
+Hakar Doski The bass is pretty shit on the bluez. I just bought a pair of the Titanium headphones and i have to say its a great sound upgrade. the bass still kinda sucks and theres a bit of bleed but its a great upgrade from the bluez 2

"Ooo... Its vibrating...its an odd sensation...not that i don't like it... It tickles in a pleasant way." ~ Lou 2016
I'm curious... Would this allow deaf people to hear?
+AKProFilms seriously?!?!?!?
+AKProFilms Not unless they connect to the auditory parts of your brain via Bluetooth...
No, deaf people usually have the ear drum, not the ear itself damaged and the headphones only bypass the ear itself.
Lol dude, it still uses audio
I was thinking the same thing :o
These are great tech for those of us who deal with tinnitus- putting ear buds in makes the ringing in our ears feel louder, so using bone conduction actually is more "comfortable" for us.
I've been using a pair of Aftershokz Trekz Air for nearly a year now and I absolutely love them.
Is Jack real??
+Louie Kotler in our dreams.
Yes.
or just a fantasy?
x factor
I really can't tell.
Will this do the job or should i get a vibrator instead?
i wonder if a deaf can listen with them
that's not a smart comment
why not i know that some invasive teatments for deafness use that principle i just wonder if the gadget can be applied to medical field with some minor changes to avoid surgery
+Thijs Van Den Broek it's a very valid question, and point, he has there.
They do work for deaf people or hard of hearing depending on the type of hearing loss they have.
so they work in deafs as long as it is a ear problem and not a brain problem right
My son has these and uses them every day at work. He has them synced to his phone and no one can hear them but him. Excellent product.

sadly not an audiophile review

I love movie tracks and soundscapes. I'm getting these now. I use openbacks now for my walks, but this seems even better.

Aaaaannnnnddddd
They're $100
+Josh Nichols You should go for the titanium ones. 30 bucks more, but better conducters and a lighter and more slick design
Now they are 80 dollars.
That's honestly cheaper than I expected. I'd buy these for $100.
Wistbacka I have the trekz titanium, I love em. They are nice at work (I am an industrial electrician, so I can wear earplugs with these on, and I don't deal with many people at work, but when I do I can hear them)

I bought a pair after watching this vid and I love them! They're perfect for where I work. And also safe
HEY MAN THANK YOU SOO MUCH I ordered them as soon as I finished watching your vid just got them today and it gave me such a different feel on music and even some what changed my taste of music just cuz of the bass awesome video thank
Jack at 3:74
you got me ffs
+Kotuku Macky So 3:14 ?
+Jamez Martinez Nice maths.
Video ends at 4.13 and it cant be 74 sec
+McLukaZg no fucking shit sherlock
I wonder what it would be like with asmr
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
+joseph johnson That could be interesting… xD
just doing daily stuff while listening to asmr
I would prefer regular earphones for ASMR, since they drowned out the outside world. To get the best ASMR experiance, you have to have nothing but the ASMR sounds playing.
better than that weak lamp you showed us
Bought this product the other day after watching this video and they just came in today. Love the product alot. Really recommend it
as a heads up, sound is vibrations going through air but it can also be transmited through other stuff, like if you hit a metal rod against a wall it will vibrate and make a sound. thus thiz device will vibrate your bones and make sound. btw this vibration is the resson you hear your voice diffrently than others.
sorry for the bad English :C
How's the bass?
UH-MAZE-ING Its like a head massage
Have y'all ever heard Zungle? Oakley Frogskins like Sunglasses with Bone conduction tech
Yessur... So which one came first?
rommelriot aftershokz came first, military tech adapted for civilian use
I love it how he seems so confused every time he reviews anything. He has no idea of anything he talks about and he still gets millions of views. The unexpected virtue of ignorance I suppose. People like watching people who don't know.
+Andrés Legorreta ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
+Andrés Legorreta ignorance? lol. he's an unboxer. not a reviewer. he gives you a general idea of what you're getting.

2:34, Jacob Sortourius kicks in... Whhooaahww.
Does it tickle your pickle?
idk buy them and figure it out.
if you give it a nickel
Bought them sadly they don’t ☹️
I like how they are different from everything else. Now that they have a newer model in blue. (although for $129) I want a pair. Will be a perfect pre-christmas gift for myself. I just added them to my Amazon Wishlist.
I'm a fan of the quality of your video! Very Clear!
3:57 looks like a camera there...
They need to make these that look like glasses so you can listen to music at work.
Zungle
GTFAFM they exist lol
GTFAFM zungle
Google Glass actually has that. too bad they did away with them as a whole
GTFAFM vue glasses, they on kickstarter rn
-there is like avibration to it- okay lads. We all know what bone is going to get conducted now
how does this fair in loud environments?
Im a cyclist too, please let me know if they work well.
Is jack real??
+wallington filming I'd like to know as well haha
Yeah
Of course!!!
What's the radiation like though?
Are you stupid?
+harold pro Bluetooth radiation also 🤔 mobile.journals.lww.com/thehearingjournal/_layouts/15/oaks.journals.mobile/articleviewer.aspx?year=2012&issue=06000&article=00012
Oh ok than.
Would it work with deaf people?
Souless Valkyreon Why not?
+William Simpson really nigga!
Junior Sniper Why wouldn't it?
+William Simpson it wouldnt work because bone conduction just means that the bones act as a conduit for sound to travel to the eardrum. Since your deaf the eardrum cant pick up sound or translate it. so no it would not work.
+William Simpson Sound is vibrations your ears pick up. So no, the deaf would not hear it.
Lewis, you made unboxing interesting! I find myself watching your unboxings even if I am not interested in the products at all.
you should tell the prices
+Hector Caraballo He adds the link in the description
Would these work if you were deaf?
what a great fucking idea
+Chuk Stoskopf That would be awesome!
Never thought of that
No, it just uses bone to conduct sound, instead of air
+Chuk Stoskopf No, these still work by vibrating the inner ear, just with the added step of going through bone. Unless these directly stimulated the part of the brain responsible for interpreting sound (they do not), they will not work on deaf people.
Why are they not popular yet? they've been around for so long.
well cuz they not produce truest sound like normal headphone/ earphone. but overall good enough for me, i have one and use it when i do project at school, so i can still hear what people said
I was recently given a pair of bone conduction headphones as a gift, but they're not Aftershokz - do other ones create sound when you're not wearing them, or are they quiet? In a quiet room other people can hear what I'm listening to, but they're great for driving or at the gym
I have the original version of these and I loved them they are absolutely amazing!
Music in my bones
reminds me of the tooth tunes tooth brushes
Why don't a few of my subbed channels' videos don't show up in my sub box? I wanna see what all my subbed channels have posted, not just the ones I recently watched or something. #YTPlsFix
+Aryansh Malviya #MakeRUclipsGreatAgain

had the same problem. unsub then resub :) works like a charm
