Yes i used a press i made out of some scrap steel pipe and a 20 ton bottle jack. Had to do twice as the cheap ebay bushes only lasted a year. Replaced with powerflex ones much better and not too expensive
Was it pretty simple? Looks ok getting it apart as long as there's not too much corrosion. Is it ok getting it back together? If I do it I ll only have the car on axel stands. Will being on stands give sufficeint clearance to get it apart and back together? I have no impact guns just a big breaker bar that has not failed me yet. I was going to drift the old ones out with a chisel and I understand the powerflex ones don't need a press to go in? I saw the powerflex ones are expensive but remove a design flaw and should last forever? I will get quotes at my garage and use FMOC parts but if exorbitant I fancy having a go sometime when I don't need the car for a frew days ( a week knowing my skills )
ALL THINGS JIM I agree great video straight to the point & easy instructions. Nothing worse than people waffling on while trying to crack a seized nut or bolt etc.
ALL THINGS JIM Nice video & thanks for posting. Without people like you going out of your way to do these instruction videos, we’d all be paying excessive garage prices. Thank you very much.
They go on about Audi's having overly complicated suspension but this takes this biscuit, throw in sub standard Ford fasteners and we have a right field day. (Focus Mk1)
Hi. I’ve got to replace the rear passenger bush on my s max. I’ve bought the bush… is it possible to do it without the bush tool/press? Seems an unnecessary expense for something I’m likely to only need once during the life of the vehicle 😂
You can get a tool specifically for it to do the job in situ which is easier than stripping the whole arm off imo but no chance of getting that bush in without some form of press / bush tool.
Hi Jim you helped me previously with a front driveshaft clunk on my focus zetec s the tsb worked with cleaning the splines and applying locktite so thanks for that I have another noise now though when I go over certain bumps I get a high pitched repetitive creaking noise for about 2 seconds from the rear end my trailing arm bushes do look a bit rough side but do you know any other causes for it as there is no play in any of my back suspension parts
I don’t think you’ll know what I mean by “Repetitive” but the best example I can give is when you drop a coin on the floor and it clatters until it lies flat it’s similar to that
Hmmm. Its going to be impossible for me to say without actually having the car unfortunately. However you say youve checked all your other suspension arms and bushes etc on rear ,have you checked you dont have a broken spring? Have you bounce tested the shocks to see if its those?
@@ALLTHINGSJIM I’ve bounce tested the car checked for broken springs checked the drop links and d bushes I’m going to take the spare wheel out and drive it for a few days incase the tyre is rubbing on the spare wheel area hopefully I’ll find it soon thanks Jim
rear trailing arm bushes are seperating That’s an advisory on my MOT from Feb 2019. Hi how long you think this may last before I have to change them? And what costs to expect please? And do we change both sides or just the side mentioned.
Hi, They could last many more MOTs or fail the next its impossible to tell how long they will last, just keep periodically checking them, also depends on the tester.. cost wise is another wide scale depending on if you do them yourself , take them to a backstreet or main dealer so id say anywhere between £30.00 (doing it yourself) upto £300 per side.(main dealer) and if only ones advised just do the one side. Hope that helps 👍
Jim tomorrow engineer going to replace the same bushes in my Galaxy. He asked me to pay £400 pounds, £200 each. A thing is too mach money . What you said about that? My Galaxy is reg 2012. Thank you.
If its in a garage sounds about right as its not a great job to do especially if you dont have certain bush presses etc.. im guessing theve quoted 2 hours a side plus parts...
Great video no messing about pure and simple without the faff! Cheers Jim...
Thanks for the video . Was very helpful. Also i like more the music. I see the video tree times to listen the music again and again. AAA perfect .❤️
Thanks for the video. Managed to do this on the driveway without buying the expensive tool. Much appreciated
Did you do it without a press??

Be interesting to see how

No talking for hours. Nice video.
Not sure if this is sarcasm or not but thanks for commenting anyway 👍👍😁

It's definitely not sarcasm. People talk too much on videos. Bores me.

Although I’m not a mechanic I agree it was a great show with all the key details clearly marked or spelt out.. well done

eats the inside of the wheel on the right side! What needs to be replaced?
Hi Jim, is this simular to a mk 2 focus.

What is keeping the spring in place when you remove the arm?
The lower track control arm.
Thanks Jim 🤗

Note you pressed the new bush in much farther than the old one was ..
So, if you dont have an 500$ press, what do you do?
You can buy a hand tool that allows you to do it, sometimes even in place so you dont have to drop the whole arm out
@@ALLTHINGSJIM well, i removed the entire arm, and had to buy a press😂
Can anyone tell me what will be part number for this bushing replacement? Thanks
2040703 & 2040702
You don't need to do all that, just drop it at the bush and air hammer it out then press it in
No offence, you made a meal out of that job, laser video shows it done with wheel still on both buses 1.5 hours,
What a lot of work for nothing. Do it in place with a mobile tool. Just undo a few bolts and job done in less than an hour.
Thats all well and good if you have the tool to do it 👍
You need more tools to repair the broken bolts and arms...
The mondeo 4 i a lot of rust and crap
Sorry
Ho like i see you have the tool...
Could you elaborate on this? would be useful.
@@allicks9220 The tool will set you back 250 + tax and a week wait from amazon.
