Great video Gilbert! I admired your lack of frustration and determination. I'm an old timer and remember changing a heater core on a '66 Ford Galaxie. It had four 3/8" bolts that held it in, from inside the engine compartment and the two hose clamps. Now that I own a 1997 F150, I will try my best to be as calm as you when I change the heater core. Keep making great videos Gilbert!
Hey Gilbert, thank you so much for your help!!!!! I've watched a lot of other RUclips videos on this process, and there's maybe one other thats close to being as insightful as your video. The rest are either "blowhards" trying to impress with low work time, or others take way too much apart. I just did my heater core on my "99 F250 (light duty). @joaoguilhermepm6131 if you are patient person and you Have tools is a cool little project I usually take it out in 5 hours and leave everything ready to install the next day that allows not to stress out to do it all in one day
this is the most helpful video ever. I just changed the blend door on my truck ac was not working finally its blowing cold air . It was a big pain in the ass doing it the first time and without this video showing all the hidden bolts it would be a nightmare figuring it out!
Your video was the final inspiration I needed to finally take on the heater core in my 99 F150 that has been bypassed for at least 5 years. There are some other videos out there that show a couple guys taking the dash out in 12 minutes but they don't explain what each fastener needs to be removed and what to watch out for like the indicator wire and shift cable. After watching your video about 4 times, I felt ready to just do it already. I was amazed at how fast I had the dash ready to pull. One hangup on mine that cost me some time were the 2 bolts on the bottom of the passenger airbag on my truck were security headed screws. One with 2 small holes in a pan headed stainless screw and the other was a rounded head allen with the little nub in the middle. I was able to shimmy the pan head one off with needle nose vicegrips but the round headed screw needed drilling out to remove the air bag. Once that was gone, the job went just as planned. Thanks for putting out a nicely detailed and descriptive video that was a big help to my long awaited solution for a no heat truck.
I'm 2-3 years into the bypass on my 2000 f-150. Keep putting it off. I check youtube for vids on this every 6 months, haha. Familiar with the other video you mentioned. No help for a DIYer. Hoping this one carries me over the finish line.
@@Andygeofri So far so good with the heater core. A couple other things were the snap on fittings I bought at Autozone for the heater hose connections to the heater core were too large for the tubes on the heater core. I had to take my old hoses and cut the crimped aluminum with a hacksaw very carefully and the fittings are just like the ones from the store except they actually fit. Then when the heater core is in place but not covered by the heater box, have a friend push against the heater core as you push the snap on fittings back on to the tubes of the heater core. Maybe it could be done without help but it felt like I'd be breaking something by pushing that hard on aluminum tubes in a plastic housing. Good luck with yours. I couldn't be happier with mine and I almost can't wait for winter.
This video gave me the confidence to do it after 5+ years with no heat. I got the job done in 2 days but it could be a lot quicker if not for some gremlins and the mosquitoes that came out around dusk that made it unbearable. It's really not that hard. Just a bunch of steps and nuts and screws and none of them are rusty. You barely have to remove it, just pull the passenger side away from the front and on the seat and you're in.
@@Steven72160 If you have any specific questions, I have fresh memories from doing this. Again, after it was all done, I didn't feel it was actually anywhere near as hard as I had worried it would be. My airbag was bolted in with 2 weird security style headed bolts. One of them had two small holes but I was able to use vice grips to loosen it and get out and the other was like an Allen head but with a tiny stud in the hole of the bolthead. I had to drill that one out and I found similar threaded bolts to re-assemble when done. The heater box has a few bolts in the back that are pretty hard to see but you can use your phone camera and flash and see where they are so you're not pulling on the top part with a bolt or 2 still attached. I never pulled the dash completely, just the passenger side pulled away from the windshield to barely rest on the seat's edge. All the heater core work can be easily accomplished leaning in between the dash and doorjam.
@brianbrown600 cool, thank you for the tips. I'm 64 grew up wrenching on cars. But it's been awhile. I think I'll be OK on this. As long as I don't have trouble remembering where all the wiring goes when I'm done. My heater core broke off where the hose is attached. So I just connected both hoses together to bypass temporarily. But it's starting to get cold here in Ohio & I need heat. Thanks again for the help. And I'll definitely hit ya back if I have issues.
@@Steven72160 Wiring is no problem. The gear selector indicator is a small cable that loops on the linkage on the back end of the steering column. That has to be slid off and there's a screw that holds it that needs to be removed before you drop the column, I think he details this in the video. Just something I remembered that was important.
Something to mention here. When replacing the heater core it's a good idea to replace the blend door actuator. They can easily break due to the plastic breaking. You will hear a clicking noise when adjusting temperature.

I gave up and let the car sit for the winter and drove my other car. Going to attempt it again before it gets cold here in NJ.
@@brosolution i just got it done. Its not that hard once you figure out what to do. Had to cut the firewall lip so I could slip heater core into its slot. My issue at the time which i didnt realuze was the steering column didnt clear the 4 threaded studs it bolts too.
Great job but one questions , how much does it cost this job to get done ? My a.c. is not working and they told me to remove dash to clean all the dust
This jod it take about 10hrs of labor we charge $100 per hour and if there is any parts that need to be replace we just add that to the total price alot of times you can flush the system with out take out the dash you should ask the mechanic if this is an option for your truck...I hope it geta solve soon

Wish me luck putting it back together
Can you remove the box the coils are in without disconnecting the ac lines? I need to go behind it to find the vacuum line that fell inside the fire wall.
Very nice although I'm not fixing the core but might as well had a pack rat chew up a lot of stuff to the point of theft lite comes on need to see all the wire harness an vacuum lines this will help I was to the point of scapping it but I'll try after seeing this video thanks .man damn rats tore the truck up
Can Rodents get in through the Holes on the Right & Left Side of the Interior Cab down behind the Foot Panels? Can they gen in through the Heater if the Door is Stuck Open?
If the carpet is fine i dont think they can. They might be going in thru the air vents, thats the only way you can go in where the heatercore is at.. if you got a plastics cover in front of the windshield remove it and check under there you might have to remove de windshield wipers
Great vid bro right to the point did Any if you all remove dash and notice the small black boxes that have fuses in them ? I think I have two or 3 been wondering what there for anyone know? Removing all heat and AC and air bag stuff for a audio build would like to cut these out if it's heat ac related if anyone knows
How do you get the Dashboard out of a 1994 Ford F150!?!? I have all Panels, Covers, Radio, Glove Box, etc Off. Also the Instrument Cluster is Out and the Steering Column is Down. It seems Loose but I cannot Lift It Up & Out on the Drivers Side!?!?
I have one question, my heater works but my ac wont cool down or last long, is the heater core for heat, and the ac evaporator for the cold? Should I replace the ac evaporator then??
Evaporador it is for the a.c. system and you would have to do this to get it out but I would check the a.c freeon first o check the pression in the system
@@brosolution did mine. 2 weeks ago didn't unplug wiring from steering column and just dropped steering wheel to seat and pulled dash far enough to where I could maneuver saved alot of money thanks
I have a 2001 Ford F150. In mine I didn’t have to remove the shifter cable out of the bracket. Once it’s popped off the metal piece, there is enough play in the cable that you can safely drop the steering wheel without damaging it. Be careful though! Hope this helps someone!
Yes...the Carpet is fine. At 1:40 in your Video you Remove the Passenger Side Panel with the Wires & Plugs behind ... I thought they might be coming in through there.

Very nice although I'm not fixing the core but might as well had a pack rat chew up a lot of stuff to the point of theft lite comes on need to see all the wire harness an vacuum lines this will help I was to the point of scapping it but I'll try after seeing this video thanks .man damn rats tore the truck up
Oh wow ..yeah from time to time I had to deal with problems like that those rats destroyed everything
Outstanding video!!!
Bien! Bro. exelente video...
Que bueno que te sirvio brother
In that bundle is the relays for your door locks and what not. Forget what else.
Is hard to tel what it is bro but i would check behind de cluster and right undrr the steering wheel
Very thorough !
Thank you
👍🏻
I have a question Does the 99's models go out the same way as this one?
Only issue is on newer models with 4x4 on dash you have to pull the switch. To disconnect. I see your 4x4 selection is on the floor as it should be.
Thanks bro for the Video..alot of shit to take off..lol😀..but if you want your heater working it is what it is..
Thanks for the feedback let me k know if you need any help

Gilbert soy Francisco hijo de Margarito el pintor de norco, muy buen video y vi el video muy tarde😅🤣🤣🤣 desarme todo y ya no se como armar🤣🤣
Thank you so much dude.
Hell ya this helped alot ty
I read an article that said not to disconnect any wiring from steering column is that true
You can do it either way it won't affect anything
@@brosolution did mine. 2 weeks ago didn't unplug wiring from steering column and just dropped steering wheel to seat and pulled dash far enough to where I could maneuver saved alot of money thanks
Do you have to drain the coolant before cutting the lines to the heater core? I imagine you would but wanted to confirm.
I have a 2001 Ford F150. In mine I didn’t have to remove the shifter cable out of the bracket. Once it’s popped off the metal piece, there is enough play in the cable that you can safely drop the steering wheel without damaging it. Be careful though! Hope this helps someone!
Tell me why do you have to take the trim off for
Yes...the Carpet is fine. At 1:40 in your Video you Remove the Passenger Side Panel with the Wires & Plugs behind ... I thought they might be coming in through there.
Ok I did just how you said. Now after reinstall of everything. Truck will not start. Crank no start. Any ideas?
Doble check all the connectors specialy the one by the passager side there afew grounds keep and eye on that
@@brosolution redid the ground check all connectors and then I saw it! Oooops, forgot to plug the fuel shut off switch back in. She loves again! Thanks for the response
