Would have to spend a little time ranking the rest , but hands down for me the #1 album from 1972 is Exile on Main Street. Gritty, raw, bluesy, rock, country - it’s got it all and I like it, like it, yes I do!!

72 was a breakthrough year for David Bowie. The Album Ziggy Stardust was released along with David & Mick Ronson producing & Ronson playing Guitar String Arraignments & Piano on Lou Reeds Signature Album Transformer. Just listen to Ronson’s Piano & String Arraignments on “Perfect Day”. Then Bowie gave Mott The Hoople their Signature Hit “All the Young Dudes” and saved Mott’s existence for a Wonderful 3 Album Run.
Bowie & Ronson were On Fire in 1972.

Purple. Sabbaff. Bowie. Reed. Tull. Dan. Stones. Young. Wonder. West, Bruce & Laing “ Why Dontcha “. Couldn’t stand Yes lol. I’ve placed Purple before The Sabs based on the fact that “ Smoke On The Water “ is as iconic as , say, “ Whole Lotta Love” but there’s very little to choose between them. The album “ Why Dontcha” is one of the best first albums by any band I’ve ever heard. Shame the follow up was dreadful but that’s drugs n booze for ya! Best wishes from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ( where the Premier League is almost about to resume ⚽️).

I have to take issue with Stevie Wonder/Steely Dan phases. You're not going to decided they weren't all that great, after a period of reflection. Two very strong number 1s, though.

Great album picks, just a little bummed to see Black Sabbath Vol. 4 not up there, an influential album of mine.

Wow! A trip down memory lane for sure😊
Happy to see Ziggy get a number 1 as for me it's such an iconic album.
Hearing Stevie's "Superstition" again immediately teleported me back to a couple of sweaty '70's discos I used to frequent back in the day. Great video overall and thoroughly enjoyed it. 😃
