the point of the cards is that the company has a standard graphic design format they must all conform to, it's a metaphor to their entire personas, and they can only stand out in subtle ways which are only observable by them. To the outside world they are all identical. It's this pressure on the human soul that is driving him to kill.
it's way funnier to think that these cards are just indistinguishable from each other (which they kinda are) and Patrick killed jared leto for the stupidest reason imaginable
Eggshell - van Patten was obsessed with food in the book (the red snapper pizza) and it pissed Bateman off... Pale nimbus - a cloud. A white cloud, of cocaine 😉 (is that a gram?) he was shoveling Bolivian Marching Powder up his nose with Bateman in the bathroom... Subtle subtle. 😁

Its funny how some guys today portray Patrick as a "Sigma", the most incredible type of man and shit, while in reality, he is the most insecure guy ever.
That's the whole movie. Do yourself a favor and watch it. It's thriller, drama, suspense, horror, and above all else, hilariously exaggerated, satirical comedy.
@jpm1911 That is the opposite of what is going on here. All of these guys do the same job - they make M&A deals - they are essentially salesmen. But the people they have to "sell" are c-suite executives who often have huge egos and put an enormous value on titles and status, so back in the heyday of investment banking it became commonplace for these firms to just slap a fancy sounding but meaningless title like "vice president" on all of their deal makers so that the client would be able to tell themselves they are working with a big wig and not just a salesperson. None of them are actually people managers.
"As a vice president, I'm flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed... but with a business card? I can be tastefully thick, I can be everlasting..." "What business card?" "Something impressive, something very nice..."
I just want to watch all of his movies where he plays an American but still uses his native accent. I want to hear Patrick speak as if he just walked right out of a Dickens book 😂
It's a way of showing that everything revolves around comparison: my suit is better than yours, my restaurant is more exclusive than yours, my business card is better than yours...
all these years and I only just noticed that patrick's card is off balance because it's written "pierce &pierce", no space between the ampersand and the second pierce. wow that's weird. 1:48

I’d pull out my fake printed anime Seal Of Orichalcos… took all my friend’s souls lol. Miss being a kid. On a side note these people are insane lol, and ironically all their cards look better and more creative than Allen’s 😂
The thing is: Al is not such a good person either, he'd probably rob you or beat you or take whatever he could from anyone he sees who's in a disadvantage and he'd encounter. It just shows how fucked up this society is.
I've watch this scene probably 100 times, but right now is the first time I noticed the guy asking “Is that a gram?" when Bateman opens his cardholder, hoping to do some afternoon blow. Hilarious.

Thx now i finally underdtand the movie after 20y. No kidding
Buuuuut, Paul Allen's card looked amazing, you must admit it.
Very cool Porter, but that's nothing.
Great analysis. Do you have any recommendations on any literature or resources critiquing/analyzing this film?

Blame the printers
@@hiphopguru81 It's not the printers job to proofread spelling, you tell them what you want, they send you a proof to approve, and they print it.
Because they are so obsessed with paper type, thickness and lettering that they forgot to check for spelling. They only care for their appearance.
This is the best subtle joke in the movie.
Look at the subtle intro, the tasteful volume mixing, oh my god...its even perfectly clipped

I think the Sigma edits are kind of ironic.
