Eh tbh English actors normally do American accents quite well like Idris Elba and The guy from snowfall but It’s normally americans who butcher the english accent
He's even more absurd (and evil) in the novel. In one chapter he microwaved a jellyfish and ate it, and was stuffing his mouth with sand on the Beach. As well as other shit like running around the streets and yelling like a lunatic or eating a can of ham in a shop with his fingers and puking etc.
2:54- there is a theory that Patrick may actually care to some extent, and that his psychopathic murderous rage is something he can't control. At the very end he speaks about the immense pain he feels, something he feels so much that he wants to inflict it on the world. But then again, what you said makes perfect sense. That's why I love this movie.
4:49 is my favorite scene. as much of a shitshow as it is. he knows that courtney believes its dorcia, and for the most part thats all that matters. as long as someone thinks he been able to get a reservation at dorcia then he may as well have gone. it speaks perfectly to patricks priorities. the look of sheer joy and content is palpable in his smile alone.
6:46 makes me realize one of his issues and reason for his warped perception is that he's either constantly mistaken for someone else or not noticed at all, so of course he'd eventually just run along with it
I remember seeing an interview with Christian Bale where he says that he based his performance on Tom Cruise. he said something about how Cruise is lifeless behind the eyes, and he wanted to replicate that in bateman.
There's a moment of sheer panic...when I realise that Paul's apartment overlooks the park. And is clearly more expensive than mine. I wish I'd seen this in a packed cinema, people would be laughing their asses off.
Actually, they'd be too busy experiencing a moment of sheer panic when they realize the person next to them, instead of watching the goddamn movie, is staring at iPhone 17 which is clearly more expensive than theirs.
Christian Bale nailed this performance so well, that every time I see him in another movie I just see Bateman. Even his popular films like the Batman trilogy. This is also one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. It's not really supposed to look like comedy, but his antics and massive overreactions to insignificant problems is timeless.
Honestly, in some ways Bateman is the most genuine, sane person of the bunch. He keeps trying to tell his friends and coworkers that he's miserable and they just ignore him and pressure him to behave. It'd drive anyone insane.
You do realise that this whole movie shows how a ‘high achieving’ violent psychopath operates and thinks? All those dialogues of him not feeling human etc.. it’s no metaphor. It’s actually him noticing his psychopathy. He cannot pin down what is wrong. But everybody else seeing it from outside can clearly see what is.
Er, are you an idiot. He’s just another one of them. He has nothing special, his insanity is just the hidden desires of everyone in that room. If we got into the heads of the other yuppies, we would hear similar dialogue. He never bothered to reach out, because everyone is trapped in this prison.
I think it also could be interpreted that everyone is so similar and shallow that he is mistaken for someone else, despite being very different people.
No, insane is working constantly for a paycheck you’ll blow through in a week, working for a promotion you’re never going to get because your competitor is the CEO’s son, exercising and not losing any weight, obeying laws that the government doesn’t obey, chasing love even though it’ll end in divorce, raising children that’ll idolize gangsters instead of their father and spending your twilight years grumpy and bitter, hating a world you did nothing to change, before dying with your last word being “Ouch”. That is insanity to me.
Huge misunderstanding of the whole movie: There is no Patrick Bateman. All the characters are basically the same (that's why they always mess up his name, dont recognize him, etc-... They guys all look the same, do the same things... Thats what the novel / movie wants to show us: All this consumerism dulls your personality, it takes away your individuality ). That's why Bateman (presumably) resorts to murdering people. That's the only way for him to actually FEEL something
you sanitized a lot of bateman's character lol. can't wait for all the people here that'll watch this movie expecting a quirky comedy only to see him curbstomping dogs and eating women alive
I thought there was something really wrong with me when I first watched this film and was laughing every other minute. Glad other people find it hilarious 😂
the most interesting plot twist in this story is that, when he killed Paul Alan , he used a trip to London as a reason for his absence, but at the ending of this film someone tells him that actually Paul Alan came back from London recently and he saw him, and Patrick realised he is actually insane.
Or, just like Paul Allen mistakes Bateman for Marcus Halberstram, everyone in his world is so narcissistic and shallow that this person did the same thing - thinking he was at dinner with Paul Allen, but it could have been any other nameless, faceless businessman
I always took the scene with the realtor to mean that Patrick DID commit those murders, but just as there is always a bigger fish, there was another layer of madness above him made up of people, such as the realtor and the lawyer, who make sure these crimes go unnoticed.
Something horrible is happening inside of me, and I don’t know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip."

@@Bladesvideos Christian Bale is Welsh.
Honestly one of the most hysterical movie characters to ever exist
There is men like this in real life.. handsome men especially are douchebags!
The fact that the character name is Bateman always makes me giggle considering Bale played the role of Batman. It feels like a parody name of Batman
In the book, one of his pals calls him "Batman" a couple times (since they’re always high/drunk/forgetting each other’s name).
I love how he sounds like he’s about to cry when he asks for Paul Allen’s card.
1:42 gonna be honest I don’t think Bateman sexually harassing someone is the worst thing he has done
I mean, he literally torture and murder those prostitute
Just constructive criticism
In the book he shoves a rat into a woman's vagina, also he murders a kid he abducted from a zoo. Patrick is much more likeable in the movie.
he didn’t sexually harass her. he was being sexist. he thought of her as unworthy of that suit.
No shit
"I'm simply not there." *Is the most cognizant character of the entire movie.*

Maybe the real dorcia is the people we deceived along the way
I didn't understand anything that you said.
@@sillygoobermentpatrick bateman is pretending he took her to dorcia, I’m assuming a better restaurant, when in reality it’s not
Patrick Bateman is always himself because he could never ever not stop acting as patrick bateman
6:46 makes me realize one of his issues and reason for his warped perception is that he's either constantly mistaken for someone else or not noticed at all, so of course he'd eventually just run along with it
I read somewhere that he's character was inspired by Tom Cruise. I literally can't unsee it
In the book Tom Cruise is Patrick's neighbour
I remember seeing an interview with Christian Bale where he says that he based his performance on Tom Cruise. he said something about how Cruise is lifeless behind the eyes, and he wanted to replicate that in bateman.
He always reminded me of Tom Cruise in this movie, it makes sense now
Patrick talks with Tom Cruise in one chapter in the novel lol.
The scenes in this movie can be watched in any order, and it’s still amazing 😂
There's a moment of sheer panic...when I realise that Paul's apartment overlooks the park. And is clearly more expensive than mine.
I wish I'd seen this in a packed cinema, people would be laughing their asses off.
Actually, they'd be too busy experiencing a moment of sheer panic when they realize the person next to them, instead of watching the goddamn movie, is staring at iPhone 17 which is clearly more expensive than theirs.
I'm laughing my ass off now. I forgot how brilliant the dialogue is
i like how he tells everyone he's done terrible things to people but they do not care at all
Christian Bale nailed this performance so well, that every time I see him in another movie I just see Bateman. Even his popular films like the Batman trilogy.
This is also one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. It's not really supposed to look like comedy, but his antics and massive overreactions to insignificant problems is timeless.
Bruce Wayne is basically Bateman.
Impossible that he didn't get an oscar for this amazing performance.
Your editing was sufficient, Pittsie. Thank you
Bruh this is literally every single scene of him being iconic
American Psycho is one of the most iconic films in the history of mankind
Bro should've gone to a therapist not on a murder spree 💀

This film is simply a masterpiece. Highly entertaining and extremely watchable!
the most interesting plot twist in this story is that, when he killed Paul Alan , he used a trip to London as a reason for his absence, but at the ending of this film someone tells him that actually Paul Alan came back from London recently and he saw him, and Patrick realised he is actually insane.
Or the lawyer is also a killer and used Paul as a false alibi
Or, just like Paul Allen mistakes Bateman for Marcus Halberstram, everyone in his world is so narcissistic and shallow that this person did the same thing - thinking he was at dinner with Paul Allen, but it could have been any other nameless, faceless businessman
