Astonding! I heard this on the radio and I thought it was Pinnock conducting. One of the best performances of the "little" g minor I've heard. Firey and passionate. I don't believe the exciting tempi, etc.
This "little" symphonie" in G minor is the orchestral masterpiece of the teenager Mozart together with th A major symphony and later on, the Eb major piano concerto. The theme and their development are particularly well suited to the "sturm and drang" atmosphere that Mozart wanted to approach, what was not in his habits when he worked for the Salzburg aristocracy and the archbishop Colloredo, who pushed him rather to write on one hand serenades and divertimentos, on the other hand very simple church music. Evzn the "minuetto" finds such an expression. No wonder that he escaped to Vienna as soon as he could do so. What impresses me most is the solidity of the architecture, which is perfectly perceptible here, while usually Mozart used to d hid it using melodic transition celles, and also the way how he succeeds in creating a great tension with a rather small orchestra. There are other gems in that period, such as in the chamber music domain the string quintet in Eb major K. 173, which opens a series of six absoute masterpieces.
This and Böhm's are the best interpretations of this Symphony. The tempo is indeed rather quick, as had been typical for Klemperer during his early years. However, the tempo is fantastic is fairly moderated in the Andante and subsequently thereafter.
Oh yes, yes, YES! This is how Mozart in g minor needs to sound! Too bad Klemperer didn't bring the same passion and energy to his woefully wrongheaded recording of No. 40. Many great conductors completely miss the mark with #40. If you want to know how it should sound, listen to Furtwängler/Berlin 1949.
Come restare attuale 70 anni dopo.... Klemperer is Genius...
Spannende Interpretation dieser erregenden Sinfonie im ziemlich schnellen Tempo und ohne schleppende Töne. Echt genial!
Asombrosa precisión. Energía del corazón. Tiempo y vida.

very clear performance despite the tempo. Brilliant.

furtwangler's recording of the other minor-key symphony was qucik. this is borderline insanity. and i like it.
,
@Stephen McMullan i meant furtwangler's recording of the 40th.
Bruno Walter is more than 2 minutes faster!
Do you think it's been speeded up?
I don't think so. It's a fast rendition, but I think if it had been, the pitch would be higher.
good

Primo movimento un pelo veloce altrimenti top o bravo dalle mie parti
too fast. too much of the nuance is lost. also just feels rushed, it's not a race. not for me at all
No !!!!
