      How often do you moisturize aka spritz with water?

    • @nicolove2877
      @nicolove2877 3 года назад +2

      Honestly, barely. I oil my scalp and that's about it. When I curl my locs, I spritz them then. If I'm bored and want to clean my parts up, I'll throw a little water on them so I won't badly break my roots.

    I agree with you about not washing hair often. That's also old school. My mother was a cosmetologist for nearly seventy years and she used to say that these new fangled folks are literally washing their hair out.

    Purchase an akaline water filter. You hair will be soft and extremely hydrated. In my faith, I need to my hair must be clean. 6 to 9 months would not be health for me.
    The alkaline filter reduces dry itchy skin, dandruff, eczema,and dramatically improves the condition of your skin,hair and nails. The filter removed chlorine, heavy metals, bacteria, pesticides, and inhibits the growth of scale, algae, fungi and mold
    The filter is on Amazon for $28.00. Get the filter and change your hair game.

    Thanks so much for taking the time. I'm seriously considering locs. So I'm doing research now before I fully commit. So far I believe my hair scalp and hair is healthy. I do use water from my well, rain water, and occasionally rose water. Since I'm here near Gainesville, FL and on a limited income I wanted to try to start my own locs. My routine is to wash my hair once a week with black castor oil soap bar and/or shea butter soap bar by Shea Moisture. While moisture organic extra virgin olive oil and shea butter. A few days ago when I washed my hair I did the same thing and added ECO styling gel with olive oil and twirled my hair.(coil I guess). I had a imagine of my hair being springy in sort of a corkscrew pattern. I know how realistic that is. Now that I have found you, I'm rethinking using the gel and to see what kind of journey my hair can go. Mainly prevented build-up from products and confusing my hair being unhealthy. My hair is somewhat soft. I don't usually take pictures and I know it's not same as touching it but I really want to make sure I'm on the right track/path. Any help is greatly appreciated.

She may give you dirty looks and call you out every so often but that is what moms do...at least mines does...if it is not one thing it will def be another.

    I'm sorry. No one should go that long without washing their hair. That is plain unsanitary. There are pollutants in our environment, dead skin cells from our scalp, sweat etc on our hair and scalp
    no matter how careful we are.

    • @Allahaziah1
      @Allahaziah1 7 лет назад +9

      Dee Drummond I'm going you respectfully disagree with your comment. Depending on a person's hair, because everyone is different, our bodies are pretty self cleaning. Their may be build up on everyone's scalp but that doesn't make it completely unsanitary, it's natural for your hair to do that.

    • @Allahaziah1
      @Allahaziah1 7 лет назад +2

      Dee Drummond I personally wait 2 weeks before washing my hair because my hair breaks off when I wash it too often. while my friend has straight hair and she washes it everyday. :) everyone differs lol.

    • @phoenixmoon5580
      @phoenixmoon5580 7 лет назад +6

      Umm... not really. Everyone has bacteria on their skin and scalp to help keep the negative ones away. If everyone was sterile, we would be very unwell very often. There is a mindset and haircare method that is called the sebum only. You don't wash your hair, you don't even add oil. If you do it right, and do it consistently, there is no smell to people's hair, it doesn't look oily (if someone has an oily scalp it can actually lessen oil production over time!). It practically cured my horrendously gross dry scalp and straw like hair ends. If you work in the beauty or hair industry, you'd have to protest this point, as the lie has been going on and on for decades. Wash your hair, repeat washing, add this, add that, do it daily, buy more of our product this way. When I did that (I tried pretty much every type of shampoo including 2 in 1's, and checked lathering twice, followed by conditioner... My hair looked like straw every time!).

    • @phoenixmoon5580
      @phoenixmoon5580 7 лет назад +2

      +Syria__ No worries, and thankyou for your kind words. When I read your comment about how badly your hair responds to being washed, I could imagine how heart shattering that might be when you put effort and energy into growing your hair. (If you wanted no hair, you'd shave it and go bald right?!). I am guessing that your hair might be brittle (I kinda imagine what happens when you dip a flower in liquid nitrogen and then slam it down hard on a table!), so you might be needing more moisture to balance it out. However it also depends on the item you use to wash your hair (Is it soapnuts? Or apple cider vinegar? Or bicarbonate of soda/sodium bicarbonate? Or eggs? Or honey? Or is it a solid soap kinda thing like African black soap, or the weird pink ones that I've heard are super effective/possibly castile soap? Or is it dish washing liquid? Or is it classic everyday shampoo if so what type? clarifying, shine, soft, moisturising, for volume?). How many times do you put it on your scalp and make it foamy? Are you putting it on your scalp, or on your hair, or on both? How much of the cleaning agent are you using? Are you prediluting it or using it neat? Also, what else do you do in the shower, do you use that brush thing that is supposed to make the shampoo foam up better or quicker, and is supposed to be good for the scalp? How do you hold your hair when in the shower? How do you dry it? How long does it take for the entirety of your hair gets to 70 or 80% dry? What do you do after it is dry, or 'dry enough'? Do you cover your hair generally? (If so, with what and what is the bit that touches your head made of?). Do you 'protect' your hair when dry? What happens to your hair/where does it go, and how when you sleep? Is your hair in locs or loose strands? Do you use heat to style your hair at any point? Do you use dye of any sort or bleach in your hair? (If so, how often? What kind?). I am guessing the ends of your hair break off, is this correct, or is it anywhere? If it is at the ends of your hair, then can you recall what happened when that part grew? (were you happy/sad/stressed? drinking enough fluids? eating balanced meals regularly? were you pregnant? were you on medication (of any kind, however minor)? were you ill? if so, how ill... just a 24/48hr bug or was it a hospital stay? mental health counts as health as we all have a mental health. Some people's mental health is well, others has a mild headache, others flu, others at earth shattering levels of illness, mine currently has the equivalent of pneumonia and bronchitis but I'm being stubborn like my grandfather and not seeing a doc!! Hehe! Also, the mind is the thing that controls the entire body, and so if your control system is down then things won't run right, and chaos ensues!).

I have been using ACV on my locs recently because I found out I am allergic to Cocount oil. My scalp would itch like crazy. I would scratch and it would turn into Folliculitis. But from here on out I will not be using it as often as now.
    Question: Since I am allergic to Coconut oil what can I use on my scalp. The tea tree and Olive Oil?

      Trill Swim So, the thing about freeform locs is that you let them be free to form on their own. Try to leave it alone, even though it's tempting to mess with it. Keep your hair clean and moisturized. Let nature do the rest...really that simple. Best wishes on your journey ✊🏾

      GreenSagittarius thank you and how often do you recommend washing?

      Trill Swim Well, Yannie is an expert locologist, and I am just a woman speaking from experience. I wash my hair no less than once a week, but Yannie recommends washing far less frequently. I trust in her wisdom, but I also say that you know yourself better than anyone. If you feel the need to wash, you should. If your activity level is high, you may need to wash more often, you know? Whatever you do, make sure that you stay as natural as possible, meaning stay away from shampoos with too many chemical ingredients. Yannie's website has A WHOLE LOT of information, so check it out if you can.
