I also think the government know that these safety features are cost-prohibitive and intend them to be; they do not want us to be able to open small businesses.
The reason prices are high for beginners (besides inflation) is that our government "protects" by mandating extra safety features. A modern 1970s style car would be very affordable, but all the required computers and safety features jack the price up. I understand the argument for making factories/plants use sawstop and other safety features, but entry-style saws should be simple and therefore affordable.
There are 2 processes that are different but folks use the term kickback indiscriminately. One is true kickback. where the blade grabs a piece with a rear tooth and tosses it upwards. Which is where the amputations happen. The other is ejection where a piece gets pinched at the fence and blows straight back. This one can kill you.
I hope people read this comment, it is so accurate.
I think that more DIY project users purchase table saws and other power tools and start using them without learning the correct way to use them safely. The amount of injuries from table saws seems high, but the data used is inadequate, leaving the door open for big brother to interfere with a product when used correctly is no more dangerous than driving a car. I am looking forward to your table saw series, as always thank you for sharing your knowledge!
When the States buckled to the Fed's threat of withholding tax monies if they did not mandate seat belts everything went downhill for freedoms. Now, I am a proponent of seatbelt use. I am not infavor of someone ORDERING me to use them or get fined.
I heard Makita stopped selling table saws due to lawsuits
No matter what the case is for the safety I wouldn't buy a sawstop even if the money is the same. I don't want all the extra crap to eventually go wrong on my saw. Look at the auto industry. So much extra crap on cars that only make them over the top expensive to buy and to repair. All of the timing on this sure is suspicious with the original sawstop patents set to expire. I guess someone got into the right guys pocket to get this pushed. We don't need government to tell us what we need, let the open market decide.
With a plunge saw and a router table we can replace the table saw
Get an RAS kickback CAN't happen. ejection? yeah but rare.
