I first thought "why is that worker speaking in such an aggressive tone" but when Martina called hansi's dad for supplies, I realised: Norweigian language sounds more aggressive than german^^
Yes! Even just once every other month a video with these smaller projects, no fancy tools. Making little room boxes. Could even get the viewers involved with polls to vote on what they make.
agreed, the logo pattern is very nordic with a touch of scots gael thrown in, now would a 50 year old look stupid in it :P Also that has to be the best use of a samsung box and packaging ever!
Proof that while fancy tools can make the process easier, quicker and cleaner, it really is all about the creativity and ingenuity of the artist! (Also who else had a small heart attack for a nanosecond before they realised that *wasn’t* in fact a microwave and that Martina *wasn’t* about to stick a load of metal into it? 😂)
i agree and as someone who has spent many years working on automobiles appliances and doing general construction many times i found myself in situations without the proper tools needed to do the job and thats when getting creative comes in handy in some cases its as simple as using a coin to act as a spacer when you dont have the proper size wrench on hand others actually fabricating a makeshift tool a good example from the vid was when she said she cheated by using a smaller brush where needed when she could have simply cut bristles from the larger brush and used the box cutter to carve a slot in the other end of the handle of the brush to glue them into make a small detailing brush
In some way limitations can even enhance the creativity, because you have to work with what you got. Improvisation comes into play, which is imho the highest form of expressing creativity, if that makes sense.
Or alternatively, if they do a low budget challenge like this, most of the material they use is still super-specialized or expensive offcuts from their regular projects.
Hahaha yea it's like the statement "I made this in 7 days with only $10" is really just bull crap. Cause the amazing equipment and workshop that they have and use cost tens of thousands of dollars, and the training, experience and social network they have is priceless. So it's kind of a hollow statement. But cool project and end result for sure. 👍
This is reminding me of my favorite doll house I had as a child! My mom had made a castle out of a cardboard box and carved windows and a drawbridge in it! She even made a couple of ledges on the inside to act as a second story. And she decorated the sides with climbing roses in red and purple! It was much or as detailed as yours but it was the thought that counted and I played the heck out of more than my other dollhouses!
As soon as you bought that pack of paint, I knew you were gonna need some "contraband" white. I use acrylics a lot, and I seem to be always buying more white than anything else. Tip for folks on a budget: you can buy cheap color acrylics, but buy one tube of high quality white if you can. It will make most of your colours more opaque and easier to apply.
Don't most palette packages come with a white on? I mean the quality probably isn't the best but that's true for the other paints and one can make it work
It was great seeing this "budget" build. Even if it would be more expensive the fact that it was done with only basic tools is great. Like you said at the begining, things like 3d printers are still a rarity but getting some boxes, glue and paints? Everyone can have those :)
First of all, I had no doubt that you could produce something amazing with a small budget - you did that quite a bit in the earliest days - the talent is what matters most, not the technology! Secondly, it was refreshing to see you step back from fancy tools and materials because those tools do start to appear essential to newer makers. I understand that better tools and materials free you from a lot of tedium, but the vision and skill are there either way! You guys are amazing regardless of budget, and it is a pure joy to watch you work! (Incidentally, I really missed the quests for illicit gravel from the old days!)
I agree that this should become a series...challenges. Money based, tool based, even color/paint based. I also love the fantasy inspired stuff you do but would love to see more cyber/space stuff like the PC you did with LTT! Keep up the great work both of you!
One of my favorite sayings is this " You could give a fool the best resources and they will do nothing while at the same time you could give an artist a bag of trash and they will create magic. " You are an artist!!
I absolutely love these budget-friendly builds, especially because you manage to keep the quality of the outcome similar if not the same as when using expensive tools and materials. Love your work every time!
This is such a flashback to college for me. My 3D design professor actually made us work with cheap materials at first, then we often had to dumpster dive for materials because we were too poor to afford anything extra. I watch a few other channels that make some pretty amazing things from garbage and recycling. Fancy tools are nice and make life easier, but they don't make the art, you do. That's why a good artist can make art from trash as well as expensive materials.
Martina, you really are amazing. I've been watching your channel more than usual for extra tips and tricks because I discovered d&d diorama crafting that I want to make for my sister and brother-in-law (they're both dungeon masters and play every week :) and just happened to stumble on your online store. I checked it out just to see what you had, and found the downloadable template for this build completely FREE! I never thought I'd do this specific build, there's so much I have to just make from scratch and that takes a crap ton of time, but because this was free and it goes pretty well with the fantasy, medieval theme of d&d, I can't WAIT to get started making this! Thank you so much Martina! ❤️❤️💙💜💜
Here I am struggling to make anything with cardboard and hot glue, and Martina goes on to create a brilliant house. Amazing. Love this budget creation. Would love to see more of this in the future. A series perhaps? Also, I'm confident that your bright pink hair definitely aids in camouflage
That’s amazing! I’m an art teacher and I show this video to my students to teach them all the process of a project and how you experiment different materials to solve different problems. They loved it! So I decided to download the templates and try it myself 😁 A lot of fun in perspective!
@@BlueBeam10 You are literally generalizing one statemet, blowing it out of proportion. She never said that this is her way of teaching but maybe she was just inspired and tried to incooperate her love for the topic into a cool lesson. Hows that different from watching movies? because that's something that happened a lot with teachers be it history or what not. lol
@@BlueBeam10eachers use other resources and compile them to teach… such as websites and articles, and surprise, videos!!! Literally what are you on about. She may have shown them a little clip and explained it as inspiration for students on this project.
@@BlueBeam10 Your mind is set. Your logic is sound (to you). You shake your head in disbelief of this injustice to the tax system, on an art video on RUclips. Well I have bad news for you : some art teacher just put an apple or something on the table then walk around while the student draw in an art class. Some of them even hire another person just to sit around *gasp*. Why don't you go expose them as the lazy person they are. Afterall, how could you possibly be wrong?
You know, that hoodie is literally the best merch clothing I have ever seen. It’s not plain with a boring design, as I usually see with others. AND ITS CONVENIENT TOO, like look at all those pockets. I wish I saw this earlier bc now it’s sold out😩 I want one so bad
This project was not only beautiful and fun to watch, but I feel that content like this is so important for young, inspired makers who don't have "All The Things." Very inspiring.
As someone who has built many things from "found treasures" and "it's not what it is but what it could be".. I must applaud your ingenuity at creating incredibly awesome projects from the simplest of tools and materials!! I would love to see more of these type of projects and perhaps a bit of your own insight into spotting these potentially useful items and materials!
I love that you recognise that a lot of artists and model makers don't have the access to a the higher end tools that feature in your videos. Maybe you could turn this into a series. "I built a ______ for $10". Or even do it in tiers like you do with the 1 hour, 10 hour, 100 hour videos. "I built a _____ for $10, $25, $50".
This gives me a lot of hope for painting my 3d prints. I really want to get into making huge stone structures like this. Homes, Taverns, Castles, etc. I love seeing the process, especially how you painted and then washed and drybrushed the stones. They look AMAZING! And that diy stucco is chefs kiss! Fantastic work with the beams and doors and windows and I never would have thought to make a roof like that! Every video just gets better and better. You deserve all the hype. Bravo!
6:17 made me laugh so much. Anyone who worked with glitter or material like this knows the feeling. You created something so amazing for such a small budget! Beautiful.
Basically, if you aren’t in Norway, you could do this for $10 😂 And I can confirm Martina went to the cheapest place possible for the supplies she bought 🤷♀️
I do not know where you live but here (Netherlands) it would also be impossible, the hot-gluesticks alone would have eaten up the entire budget. (And scavenging from the roadside would be a lot harder, since most of us live in well-paved cities. And scooping up stuff in the parks is illegal, it's poaching, and would give you a lot of dog-turd/catpoop as well. Lovely to have in your oven...) We have one of those shops/brands (in Utrecht-city) and they are high-end expensive! Do not go there if in NL. Go across the gracht to the affordable ones ;) (Pro-tip: use the bridges, it's cold in the water)
@@muurrarium9460 I don't know where in the netherlands you live, but the places I know there all have these scarily cheap shops (like Action for example) where you could definitely get like 3 times the supplies for 10$.
This project reminds me a lot of when I would take a shoe box, prop it up on its side and place the lip on top and pretend it was a gas station 😅 I used to love building things using scrap cardboard (coz we couldn't afford actual building blocks, much less lego) and that prob contributed to my being a designer right now. This also reminded me that I have a perfectly good and large box sitting in the attic with lots of styro (recently bought a new fridge) I can use alongside the various tubes of paints I've been gifted that I've yet to use. Conveniently enough, it's my day off tomorrow and my dad's bday as well, who is also a construction fanatic (studied engineering) so this really inspired me. Gotta make plans and try to work around a very curious cat though 😂
i really appreciate when people with access to all those fancy and expensive tools go out of their way to do something like this. it really shows that the quality of your projects comes down to passion and dedication, and you don't at all need anything too complicated to make something beautiful
I would LOVE to see more "Budget builds". They serve as great entertainment and are a huge inspiration for projects that I could stand a chance creating myself... after I've had many, many years of learning "how to art" XD
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing project! I am an artist myself and sometimes I really get lost in all the supplies and fancy stuff you can buy. That sometimes I start a project and the first thing I think is “ohh I need this and this and I don’t have this…. Yadayadayada” You really showed that you CAN make amazing stuff with “thrash” and without fancy art supplies. It is the artist who makes the art, art. Not the supplies. It was really inspiring to see this. ❤
I am now totally keen to try and build my own house! Thank you for showing us what can be done on a small budget and with basic tools! Also thanks a stack for the template!
This is a great video for two reasons: 1) It really shows you can get good results with time and not a lot of money 2) It REALLY shows you the importance of skill and experience It'd be a fun idea to have Martina take a new, aspiring crafter and walk them through this challenge side-by-side as a learning exercise!
I love everything you do, and have followed for years, but in a medium where you always have to top yourself (RUclips) to be successful, it’s actually really refreshing to see you go back to the roots. Especially as a DM who is currently trying to make terrain on a budget, this is literally how I have to think all the time. Love seeing my favorite RUclipsrs do the epic builds and cost accessible ones that are still aspirational in quality. 🖤
Watching you frantically waving arms around while saying "Get off!" to the styrofoam is something that brings me pure joy. I have watched that over again over again in fits of laughter.
This creative and budget-friendly approach to building a fantasy miniature house is not only impressive, but also inspiring. My girlfriend and I are excited to try our hand at making our own using just 10$ in materials and basic hand tools. Kudos to the creators for going back to their roots and showing that imagination and resourcefulness can go a long way
the squeaky noises that the styrofoam makes literally has my skin crawling omgggggg the amount of patience you had for this project! incredible work as always, martina!
I love when makers do things like this because often as they get new equipment and more income, the accessibility of their craft disappears and discourages people from trying things themselves. There’s always a sense of having to do bigger and better projects on RUclips, to get more and more views, but people came and stayed because they love the maker and their work. So seeing you do a very accessible project and challenging yourself by not using all your tools is really great and enjoyable to watch AND inspirational!
I love the idea! Wouldn’t mind more of it… especially “scrap materials and materials from the trash” because not all of us have stores that sells quality material… great video!
This is the first video I've watched of yours & it was fantastic, I've never crafted anything, so it was wonderful to see what you were able to do & it turned out amazingly. The stones & the purple look phenomenal! And the sneaking around + commentary, was hilarious 😂
Martina and Hansi could roll a turd in glitter and still make it look amaaaazing! Thank you so much for the template. I’m going to have a go at making this myself. You guys are the reason I got into modelling so I’m so excited to try copy your house.
I’d love to see this as a regular series. In the same way as painters do limited colour painting or cooks do limited budget grocery shopping, you could do limited tools and materials based on random things either drawn from prompts or from viewers examples. Also, you can make sort of glue from flour. Very useful in a pinch.
This was so cool. We've been fans since the beginning stages and watching you succeed has been a joy. But this solidifies why you had fans even without the laser printer - your creativity and vision!
Super cool result! And a side note: there's a good chance most people would have an extra paintbrush and a bit of white paint laying around, if not more... so I would hardly call that cheating.
I make a lot of miniature stuff and have no fancy tools to use. Just the basics and a good imagination. This was a cool thing to see you build with just the basics.
Beautiful! I'm a little surprised that you didn't just make the extra PVA glue in the kitchen or even make the extra paint but perhaps time was a factor to consider as well. Maybe that can be your next challenge? Making a medieval diorama with medieval supplies? Hand making the paper, glue, paints, etc. Perhaps even a series of videos of making the supplies using different methods/techniques leading up to the last video of making the diorama itself as the last in the series. Thanks for all the great inspiration! My kids and I love your videos!! :)
@Tiffany Carvajal-Swartz, One can make PVA glue in the kitchen?! How? Also, I thought that Martina could have diluted the PVA glue with some water for her coating to protect the styrofoam. Diluted PVA glue works to stiffen delicate crochet designs such a snowflake, so why not?
I really love this video especially with how you showed us how to reuse ♻️ all of our packaging that our packages come in like that is like so much better than just throwing it all away and creating more waste so I say LETS RECYCLE AND CREATE AMAZING ART for cheap
This is gorgeous. I think polystyrene is good for doing those textured looks, I thought, until I watched this, that you needed that dense, extruded polystyrene, but you have just shown that the ordinary, packing stuff, can be just as effective. I usually use that egg carton or drinks holder, sort of papier mache stuff to do bricks or stone walls, which is effective but can be really time consuming. I am going to give this a try next time I make something because it came out beautifully for you. Thanks, you got a subscriber and a like. I actually have a Tudour house kit that is wood but isn't painted and is just the bare structure, and I think, I could take a few tips from your video in order to make it look amazing rather than just average. I am going to do the windows with plastic packing (clear stuff) and do the leading like you did and definitely the polystyrene and the concrete paint. I am not sure when as it's pretty big but I'll tag you when I eventually do.
It's super awesome being able to see something this amazing done with $10 and trash. So many of the youtube artists I watch now use so many expensive and fancy equipment that I could never afford. It's nice seeing you go back to your roots and use very little to create something still just as incredible! Beautiful work as always!!!
I thought that I'll never do anything like this without money. But this video... Do, you say... I really can use some garbage, buy paint and glue and... That's enough? And I already know how to do it, because I've seen the process of doing it so many times? So, I can just... do it? Like, now? Yes, it inspired me more than anything. Tusen takk!
I can’t speak for everyone here, but your projects bring me joy and catharsis. I love when a new vid pops up from Nerd Forge as I know it’s gonna be a damn fine day. I appreciate all the hard work that you two do to make these builds and videos. It really is absolutely glorious to see things come to life here. Thank you so much, and here’s to another gorgeous build!
Thank you so much for doing this as a Norwegian, I see tons of other art channels and such do similar challenges, and they get so many supplies just for 10$, and I always think it would be impossible in Norway, this was a great video. 🥰
I totally agree. Tried to find a bicycle braking cable for a project that an American crafter said would be, " a couple dollars" or something like that, and I couldn't find one here costing less than 15. Haha. (Good thing we don't have to sacrifice our good living conditions or screw the environment for those cheap prices though.🙂)
@@BajkonurBobby Oh absolutely, it's just that whenever I see budget projects it always seem as if they would be totally impossible to do here. Therefore, it was great to see a Norwegian art channel manage to stay in the budget. Sometimes I need to see examples of it before I get my own ideas.
Is norway the most expensive out of the scandinavian lands sweden/norway/finland or are they kinda similar? Also do you guys travel to your neighbours often or do you stay in your own lanes? :)
@Peero N Scandinavian countries are Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, if you add Finland and Iceland, that's called northern Europe. Norway is quite expensive when it comes to buying certain things. It's quite common for Norwegians to dive to Sweden in order to buy meat, sweets, tobacco, alcohol and other such items. Several Norwegians tend to travel on vacation in Denmark as well. Our countries are quite close, we jokingly make fun of each other and have a friendly rivalry going on between our countries, but overall we get along great. Plenty of Swedes and Danes move to Norway to live and work, and the reverse happens as well. I don't know if Norway is the most expensive when it comes to art supplies, though. Sorry for rambling. Hopefully, I managed to answer some of your questions.
Awesome. My niece wanted to discover Miniatures painting and modelism. I will show her your vidéos which I find so creative and inspiring . Thank you for sharing your project. Regards
i use to build things like this as a kid in the 1960's... I had a great art teacher. For stained glass windows we would use colored construction paper and apply heated wax with a conventional clothes iron to make the paper translucent so light would come thru... great work and video from you... Thanks!
@@liaaaaaaaaaaaaa Sure... You take block paraffin wax (which is clear) and melt it with a regular iron (the type used for ironing clothes) onto colored construction paper, ironing the melted wax onto the paper. The paper then becomes translucent allowing light to pass thru. If you cut out thin cardboard to look like the lead ridges of stained glass from the outside you can glue this paper on the inside... Add an LED light on the inside and the "window" glows. It doesn't take much time to achieve the look either. PS: The paraffin block is of the type used in canning or making candles and can sometimes be found in the canning section of the grocery store. Amazon also sells a block of it for about ten dollars.
@@mindtekzone I'm gonna try it out as soon as I can. Should I make the layer as thin as possible? Will the translucent paper turn yellow over time? Thanks a lot for your help ♡
@@liaaaaaaaaaaaaa Sure... make it as thin as you can... its kind of self leveling as the paper can only absorb so much of the liquid wax as you heat it with the iron. I don't think that it will yellow over time... the paraffin starts out a semi-clear white color... best thing to do is try it out and see what works best for you. The materials are inexpensive enough to let you explore and play.
Amazing job. With such a low budget it’s incredible that you had those results. Shows you are super skilled and that anyone can do what you do with time and effort. Love the hoody design. I don’t usually like hoody’s but the amount of pockets and the front opening makes me want to order right now
Thank you so much for sharing this video and showing that my love of miniatures doesn’t have to be expensive 😊 Would love to see more budget materials videos like this for more projects to help beginners like me stay motivated and positive on our journey ✨💖✨
I audibly gasped when Martina sprayed the step with the spray bottle. The transformation in that moment was incredible. Then again anything she does blows my mind
Got the discord notification and have arrived! I always wondered how well a diorama would turn out if you just improvised everything. Makes me wanna give it a try now! Thank you guys! You are awesome ❤
While there are several project of yours that are my favorite, this one slips into my top 10. What you did with $10, contraband paint, stolen gravel, and refuse glue is absolutely amazing!
More of this type of crafting! Makes it feel accessible for "common crafters" such as ourselves. Would also love it if you keep a "focus" in future episodes like you did here with the "cement paint" - small tips and tricks we can use ourselves.
This is amazing, I use so many recycled materials for all my projects and seeing you do the same to prove that you don't need fancy stuff to make things is fantastic
please do more of these. Honestly, its your attention to detail and wonderful painting ability that sets you aside from anyone else, budget or not. The way you layer paints and textures is nothing short of genius.
This is my first time watching & I have been so inspired to like craft! Also.. I LOOOOVE accents and martinas is GREAT. this is amazing. You've just gained a forever subscriber.
I love how quotable you are! "The finest gravel man has ever seen..." I also love the sorts of stuff you make! This will be SUPER helpful when I make my floating islands! :D (BTW, ur hoodie is probably the only youtuber-made hoodie I'd ever wear)
I think this is my favorite project you have ever done. There are real barriers sold to us by craft stores that to make projects takes huge investments. And this just showed that creativity is better than any expensive crafting gadget any day of the week. Thank you for doing this!
As someone who has been compared to MacGyver on several occasions, I must say that some of my favorite projects have been things I built completely out of scrap parts. All you need is some creativity and some motive and you really can create anything. The most used tool in my workshop is probably a simple screwdriver, closely followed by my hot glue gun. Hot glue and cardboard is wondrous. I’ve built clocks, birdhouses, computers, and toys for children out of things other people would consider trash. This world really has so much to offer, we’ve just got to grab it, and this video is a great example of that.
Love it when you share a bit of your language, with the subtitles. A great thing about youtube is that allows us to get to know about other cultures in a natural, unscripted kind of way.
I've always appreciated how you guys may now have fancy tools and editing, but the process and materials are almost always easily accessible to people. Obviously I'm very happy to see a build like this. Thank you, you guys rock!
My girls have been kit / trash bashing for Warhammer 40k and fallout. They make some really cool stuff , they are busy , engaged both mentally and creatively. And it is nice when you hear "Dad can you help us ?" Nice build , you rock and they love your channel... every morning Sherra Baggerha has replace good morning.
absolutely amazing this is how i create and its interesting that you found out about the stucco that is virtually free. i have downloaded the template thank you so much. i love how we can made so much out of trash great for our budgets and also good for the environment.
Hi, thank you so much for this video. I am making a medieval Christmas present for my brother. And no matter how much I tried, it just didn't work out. I almost lost hope and was frustrated. And then I see a notification from youtube. I didn't give up because of you. Keep doing what makes you happy. Your art is amazing!! You inspired me. I guess I can see myself with art in the future. Thanks again!
I had started to feel that achieving something magical like what you guys make would be impossible without all the extra equipment, but this video proved I was wrong! Thank you for making this, it’s given me the encouragement to start regardless of the equipment I have!
This was such an inspiration to me. I just started this hobby and was feeling a bit defeated when looking at all the tools people have and the expensive materials. I am so much more interested in using recycled or affordable things, plus some of the many paper crafting tools I own. Thanks for the inspiration.
This is amazing! What astounds me is the amount of detail you managed to create on such a limited budget; easily outmatching resources of a budget 10x larger. And the fact that even on the close-ups, I couldn't tell it was polystyrene and cardboard! And using dirt and fine gravel in the paint, not only for texture but also to make more use from your available materials: genius. I would never have thought of that. Bravo!
Fantastic! What isn’t mentioned is your incredible artistic skills - the small touches of paint that effectively create texture, the attention to details. These are the things that make this house (and so many other projects) look so amazing. I am inspired by your artistry.
I've been wanting to make a diorama for a while now based on a show I love, and I was reallyyyy struggling to find stuff for good stone terrain until I remembered your channel!! I am so happy that I don't have to buy something expensive for the stone texture and look I want when I could just make it myself! I will also be using some of the other techniques you used on your house, like the wood texturing. Thank you for being such an inspiration and saving me moneey!
The fancy tools make the process easier and feel more awe-worthy, but your projects shine because of your patience, dedication, attention to detail and determination. True love and enjoyment of creating something right there.
I would love to see this become a regular thing! As someone who is crafty but doesn't have all the fancy tools, this was truuuuly inspiring. I'm going to be asking my partner to save all our cardboard and packaging from Christmas!
Tools and materials can be the difference between something that looks good and something that looks mind blowing, but it's the raw artistic talent that really matters. You could give most people every possible tool and material at their disposal and they'd still never get a result that was anything even remotely approaching what you ended up with here.
Virkelig imponerende, Martina!
Wow your house came out so friggin' coooool! I love seeing you guys use your fancy supplies and tools, but seeing you go back to basics and create something wonderful with limitations like this is really inspiring! It reminds me the most important thing is always just to try, and you will learn and get better :3 Thank you for the amazing dose of creativity and inspiration!
Martina: *trying to sneak around*
Also Martina: *not realizing that her neon hair gives away her position from a mile away*
That was hilarious, in the wide shot everything was dark, gray, and rainy, except for a bright pink spot...
Jajaja yes
But... but... it's STEALTH pink!!!!
I first thought "why is that worker speaking in such an aggressive tone" but when Martina called hansi's dad for supplies, I realised: Norweigian language sounds more aggressive than german^^

I would not hate it if this became a semi-regular series.
Also that hoodie is an instant buy.
I'm glad somebody else thought this was well, I would love more videos like this.
Yes I think it would be cool to see a video showing creating things using different price points (like 10, 50 and 100) or something
Yes! Even just once every other month a video with these smaller projects, no fancy tools. Making little room boxes. Could even get the viewers involved with polls to vote on what they make.

I wish this budget thing was a series. So cool to watch.
Yes me too, that would be so good
Try studson studios! He makes everything out of recycled materials and uses mostly cheap materials save for his air brush. :)

In some way limitations can even enhance the creativity, because you have to work with what you got. Improvisation comes into play, which is imho the highest form of expressing creativity, if that makes sense.
I definitely had a mini heart attack when I thought it was a microwave. >
I was like: noooooo-wait, it’s not a microwave 😮💨
Yes lmao
Often it feels like craft channels forget their roots and forget that not everyone has fancy tech, so it's really nice to see a video like this one.
This is how I feel most of the time. I stopped watching a couple diorama channel because they started 3d printing everything.
Next time we're sending more boxes 😉 This was incredible!
And a very challenging & creative way for "recycling" ;)
@@Lexmanity So True :D
The paints are then going to run out with a 10$ budget so😢
As soon as you bought that pack of paint, I knew you were gonna need some "contraband" white. I use acrylics a lot, and I seem to be always buying more white than anything else. Tip for folks on a budget: you can buy cheap color acrylics, but buy one tube of high quality white if you can. It will make most of your colours more opaque and easier to apply.
Yeees so true! That's a great tip!
Don't most palette packages come with a white on? I mean the quality probably isn't the best but that's true for the other paints and one can make it work
@@kessera5645 yeah they do, but it's usually as small as the rest, and when you are mixing colours you use more white than anything else
Same goes for oil painting, I'm always running out of white
@@kessera5645 that stuff runs out within five minutes. It hardly counts 💀
It was great seeing this "budget" build. Even if it would be more expensive the fact that it was done with only basic tools is great. Like you said at the begining, things like 3d printers are still a rarity but getting some boxes, glue and paints? Everyone can have those :)
I think these simple supply challenges really showcases the skill level of the creators.
I agree wholeheartedly
First of all, I had no doubt that you could produce something amazing with a small budget - you did that quite a bit in the earliest days - the talent is what matters most, not the technology! Secondly, it was refreshing to see you step back from fancy tools and materials because those tools do start to appear essential to newer makers. I understand that better tools and materials free you from a lot of tedium, but the vision and skill are there either way! You guys are amazing regardless of budget, and it is a pure joy to watch you work! (Incidentally, I really missed the quests for illicit gravel from the old days!)
Talent AND skill.
I agree that this should become a series...challenges. Money based, tool based, even color/paint based. I also love the fantasy inspired stuff you do but would love to see more cyber/space stuff like the PC you did with LTT! Keep up the great work both of you!
I nearly laughed to death hearing her soul leave her body when that worker busted her gravel goblining. 🤣🤣🤣
One of my favorite sayings is this
" You could give a fool the best resources and they will do nothing while at the same time you could give an artist a bag of trash and they will create magic. "
You are an artist!!
This is amazing, I loved picking up tips like the gravel and the water spray bottle painting. Please make this a regular thing
This was so cool. I'd love this to become a series. Making really cool stuff on limited/attainable budgets, and recycling or upcycling things!
facts
@hospitalcakewalk yeah I watch his stuff too. I like seeing how different makers with different styles create with limited or no budgets.
i think so too!
Seriously talented and creative. Great idea to make this a series. Maybe find materials in "the wild" and then use for projects.
and parents will have their garages cleaned of leftover paint, glue and what not XD
These two can literally do anything they put their minds to!
True dat
Freaking power couple. Truly.
You can too.
They are multi-talented persons
Nice touch making the template free too! I'm going to give this a whirl with what I have laying around the house. Thank you sm
@@BlueBeam10 yes as if arts are never inspired by others and strictly taught of a mediocre book at best
@@BlueBeam10 You are literally generalizing one statemet, blowing it out of proportion. She never said that this is her way of teaching but maybe she was just inspired and tried to incooperate her love for the topic into a cool lesson.

If you aren’t familiar with Studson Studio (chances are you know it lol) the videos are a goldmine for repurposed materials
@@biazacha was gonna say this lol
I AM GOING TO BUILD MY OWN VERSION OF THIS RIGHT NOW!!!
So good !! Such a nice reminder that making stuff doesn’t need to be expensive ! Back to the roots building !! Amazing work guys
Beautiful.
The static cling! You can never get those off!
Basically, if you aren’t in Norway, you could do this for $10 😂
And I can confirm Martina went to the cheapest place possible for the supplies she bought 🤷♀️
Lovely to have in your oven...)
We have one of those shops/brands (in Utrecht-city) and they are high-end expensive! Do not go there if in NL. Go across the gracht to the affordable ones ;)
(Pro-tip: use the bridges, it's cold in the water)
@@muurrarium9460 uhh?? In France, for 10€ you could have at least twice as much as she buyed
@@Nuagedelumière You are lucky!

This is a great video for two reasons:
1) It really shows you can get good results with time and not a lot of money
2) It REALLY shows you the importance of skill and experience
It'd be a fun idea to have Martina take a new, aspiring crafter and walk them through this challenge side-by-side as a learning exercise!
Time is more valuable than money
I love everything you do, and have followed for years, but in a medium where you always have to top yourself (RUclips) to be successful, it’s actually really refreshing to see you go back to the roots. Especially as a DM who is currently trying to make terrain on a budget, this is literally how I have to think all the time. Love seeing my favorite RUclipsrs do the epic builds and cost accessible ones that are still aspirational in quality. 🖤
This should be a monthly or at least yearly series! It keeps you grounded to your audience and is so accessible!

Ugh same, got goosebumbs because of those >
This is a prime example of your art skills. With enough talent, you can make something incredible out of mostly trash.
Am I the only one going back to old videos to confirm that she had no pinky finger? 😦 Was I so distracted with how charming she is?
Can they make it smell amazing though? If anyone can...
+1
Yeessss
@Tiffany Carvajal-Swartz, One can make PVA glue in the kitchen?! How? Also, I thought that Martina could have diluted the PVA glue with some water for her coating to protect the styrofoam. Diluted PVA glue works to stiffen delicate crochet designs such a snowflake, so why not?
I don't know if I want to see Martina cooking glue from bones, cartilage and tendons. 🙄🤣
@@peter_althoff It can be made with water and the addition of flour or cornstarch or even flax. There are lots of recipes.
Tusen takk!
Right? For some reason this video is more intimidating than her regular dioramas lol
“What were you doing over there??? 🤨” “oh hehehe just filming” why is getting gravel so criminal???
@@Humanoidfrenzzy Totally. 😊
And its fun and helps you challenge yourself and learn too; finding alternative materials/methods.
Thanks!
That stained glass trick sounds so interesting! Could you elaborate on how to apply the wax or make a tutorial? I'm dying to try your technique 🥺

Got the discord notification and have arrived! I always wondered how well a diorama would turn out if you just improvised everything. Makes me wanna give it a try now! Thank you guys! You are awesome ❤
I would love this concept to become a series!! ❤️
While there are several project of yours that are my favorite, this one slips into my top 10. What you did with $10, contraband paint, stolen gravel, and refuse glue is absolutely amazing!
the mmorpg montage music always gives me such nostalgia. its like you're building the inn where i need to turn in my quests
I felt the same way strangely. Well, except I played Horde and would sack these taverns, but you know, good times!
"The finest gravel man has ever seen..."
I also love the sorts of stuff you make! This will be SUPER helpful when I make my floating islands! :D
(BTW, ur hoodie is probably the only youtuber-made hoodie I'd ever wear)
Floating islands?! How fun! Will you hang them and everything or use a floating stand?
Woaaah the final shots with the orange windows is breathtaking!🔥
Awesome project! You just proved how simple supplies can create incredible results!!! Love it ❤
Yay! This is awesome 😊 i love your normal vids but these more 'budget friendly' builds are so inspiring!!
AMAZING WORK 10/10
I'm incredibly happy that RUclips exists! That people like Martina & Hansi can live off their passion. And we can watch it and be amazed :)

I like that you admit when you "cheat" with the smaller brush and using the white. Instead of lying about it like other people might.
You can use gelatin sheets as windows, they even have the right texture and are semi transparent. (as long as you dont get it wet)
Lovely comments... I agree Martina! Did anyone go to google translate? lol
