    Rick, the house you didn’t recognize (next to the Partridge House) was used as the Hecks’ home in ABC’s “The Middle”. At one point, during the “Bewitched” years, a church set stood on the site.

    • @1966bdc1984
      @1966bdc1984 9 месяцев назад +3

      It looked quite different for "The Middle" - didn't have the white paint and stonework. It's visible down the street in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" in some of the outside scenes, though at that time it had a (fake) second story.

    The “Partridge Family” house was most recently MeeMaw’s house on “Young Sheldon.” In the 6th season finale, the house was “destroyed” by a tornado. To facilitate this, the house was partially demolished ahead of schedule. The house originally had a “practical interior,” meaning it could be used for filming like a sound stage. Photos of the interior can be found online. The wood supports were more than likely put in place to support the remaining walls after the demolition was complete.

      Exactly correct. I love "Young Sheldon," and also loved "The Partridge Family," so that "tornado damage" was "realistic," but also broke my heart!!

      "brianmoore6306," "I'm glad you explained to people about thumbs down voting. . . . I am giving him a thumbs UP!"
      THANK YOU . . . EXACTLY.
      Voting thumbs down -- because of justifiable, legitimate sadness over the destruction of these cinematic time capsules -- is as stupid as voting down on a Blu-ray or DVD of "Lethal Weapon III" or "Bewitched" seasons 1 - 4 [ed. - both 'keepers' btw] delivered by seller Amazon and the packaging was ripped and the discs inside the plastic cases got loose. Vote 'down' as a result of lousy delivery and immediate aftermath + 'up' on the actual contents, which of course is the important matter. Think about it -- anything wrong with playback? "no" Details on the printed matter accurately reflect the contents? yes.
      . . . . . . .
      If the photos displayed here were blurry / out-of-focus - "thumbs down." If the voiced narration was supposition, hunches, tired, untrue gossip and not information -- "thumbs down." If the tone of the narration was much too fast, barely audible or annoyingly too loud -- "thumbs down." Were the photos of interest, based on the RUclips video's title? 'yes.' Was presentation of these visual treasures on display 'rushed' or did viewers have sufficient time to absorb the pictures and stated info? They were displayed perfectly. So, "thumbs up" [ed. naturally we can click 'pause' at any time].
      Muchas gracias, "Rick Nineg." I'd like to add -- in response to various statements -- that the fact much in demand, state of the art soundstages, CGI and AI buildings are the replacements. So, the condition of the facades -- whether 75-years old or two years young -- is irrelevant. What's needed, what's desperately in short supply are these specific structures. That 'trumps' feelings of nostalgia when sighting "Bewitched" or "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" sets.
      In a perfect world, a parallel universe "Bewitched"'s Samantha would wiggle her cute nose, complete with accompanying music jingle, so the acreage would DOUBLE in size. Therefore, BOTH could be useful occupants within the perimeter of Warner Bros. Ranch Facilities.
      TMI -- And in the parallel universe accessible to all, Sam could wiggle her nose a second time to bring back Darrin no. 1 for seasons 5 - 8 of their "Bewitched," with Dick York's health issues totally resolved for the benefit of his quality of life and delivering wonderful performances.

      @@tarasyonka6462 Since there's nearly nothing blatantly wrong with Rick Nineg's 11-minute video,"FAMOUS TV/Movie Home TOTAL Destruction at the Warner Bros. Ranch!" -- he delivered what was advertised AND in a professional manner: sight, sound, reliability of narration being true, your not-too-surprising frustration and sadness is directed in the wrong direction. It SHOULD go to the powers-that-be, the big cheese(s), the CEO at Warner Bros. corporate; cc'ing the city of Burbank.
      BTW, based on your very brief description of yourself, why you'd go berserk, ballistic if you saw what Universal has nuked on its backlot.

    I started my career on this lot back in the early 2000s. Some of the homes were practical. Meaning a few of them had actual rooms. The shows I worked on we filmed in the Lethal Weapon house and Small Soldiers house and they were practical. This really breaks my heart. I made life-long friends and memories here..😥😥..Thank you for the video.

    Rick,
    Thanks for the video, despite its bittersweet nature.
    As a RUclipsr who provides commentary on Classic TV, your reputation relies on sharing ALL the news - good and bad alike.
    It's the nature of the beast! Classic TV is tied to a business with a profit motive. Plain and simple. This might be tough medicine to take, but it's a reality we all must acknowledge. Thankfully, all these "homes" will forever be memorialized in the shows themselves.

    I don’t know who produced Mork & Mindy, but they’re the first example that I saw of a show that used the front of an actual house. I saw it in Colorado when I was a kid. The house on Dallas was another one. It was the home of a house builder named Joe Duncan, in Parker, Texas. He built my childhood home and all the others around us! He was out mowing the front pasture, of his home, when some men drove up and said they wanted to use his house for a new tv show. The house is huge and has all the acreage that is shown on the tv show. Using the front of a real house is better than building these houses. Nothing to keep up or tear down! Thanks for sharing this video. It’s cool to see these houses and hear the names of the multiple shows some of them were used for.

    Similar to the double fronted houses, at the NBC Studios in Burbank, the exterior set for Salem Place, the outdoor shopping center set for "Days of Our Lives" had (I don't know if it's still there) a small six sided building, with each side having a different door with a different store name on it. This gave the illusion, when seen on TV, that there were all these different stores.

I was a little surprised because usually they just have a facade and the actual interiors are built in a soundstage. The buildings you showed aroud the 9:20 mark were the extras "holding area" as they would call it. They set up a bunch of folding chairs and a few tables. Some water, fruit, crackers etc and we would all just hang out there in between our scenes.

    Great follow up video on the loss of these facades. I use the term facades, because as you reminded us, these were not real homes. Our loss comes not from these empty fronts, but from the screen, when watching what we believed in our hearts to be true became etched in our memories as reality, a reality that never truly existed.

    The first _Blondie_ movies used a house in Studio City for exterior shots, Columbia then built the replica which was used for the later movies.
    The _Bewitched_ house is based on a house in Santa Monica (but it's reversed left to right) that was used in the first _Gidget_ movie. Columbia built the replica intending to use it for later _Gidget_ movies but instead used it for Bewitched. When _Gidget_ became a TV series, _Bewitched_ was already in production so they used the _Hazel_ house, next door.
    _The Partridge Family_ house (also the home of Gladys and Abner Kravitz) was based on the Sears Roebuck "Glenn Falls" house plan. It was later drastically changed for _Life Goes On_ .
    The _Christmas Vacation_ house was also used in _American Beauty_ and _Wandavision_ ; it and the one-story brick house beside it were built in the 80s in place of the former Deed's mansion (from _Mr. Deeds Goes to Town_ ). The Deed's mansion was later used as a school, library and other various public buildings.
    The park in the center of the backlot featured a swimming pool and the fountain seen in the opening credits of _Friends_ .
    Most of the houses were "practical sets" meaning they had interior rooms (the _Blondie_ house served as offices for many years), an exception is the _Bewitched_ house which was only a facade due to the shallow lot.

    First of all, the people who are giving this video a thumbs down because they don’t like the fact that these homes are being destroyed are completely stupid. I gave you a thumbs up because I thought this video was *excellent.*
    Quite a bit of the information you give here is stuff I didn’t know. A lot of it I did already know, but you definitely filled in some blanks. Seeing the Partridge Family house almost completely demolished and what’s left of it being propped up by 2x4’s is something I had no idea they did.
    So sad to see this vestige of Americana being erased and flushed down the memory hole. I feel like it’s a symbol of what’s happening to America right now.
    Also, the house you were unable to identify (if no one’s already mentioned it) is from “The Middle.”
    Lastly, another thing I love about your video is that it’s fairly brief. Your narration was excellent, and the way the video was formatted encourages 100% engagement. It was worth watching all the way through, worth giving a thumbs up, and definitely worth leaving a comment. Well-done 👍

    A lot of history disappearing but these got a ton of use over the years - Christmas Vacation came out in 1989, many of those were from much earlier than that like you mentioned so they served their purpose. At least they survived this long - the apartments from Friends and Mad About You, the hospital from House, the bridge from Star Trek The Next Generation - these were all gone a long time ago after about 7-10 years of use, torn down once the show was done.
    What you said about the front and back facade being different is interesting. One of the western towns(think it is the one they willed Tombstone at) is the same - your main street is the typical western town, one street over is a different style of western town to allow you more options when filming. And it makes sense because you never really see people walking up and down streets, around the block, etc so all you really need is one street made, next one over can be totally different.

    9:08 That looks like it might be the house that, most prominently among my examples, was the _Hazel_ home for its final season, on ABC. That house was also the one that Jeannie blinked up for herself in the _Jeannie_ season 1 episode "What House Across the Street?", where I believe the same *_interior_* was also used as on _Hazel._ The exterior was also what Uncle Arthur zapped up for himself, and then Endora zapped away, in a _Bewitched_ third season Halloween story arc.

    Definitely, this is the Partridge family home. I am surprised that after fifty-three years, the kitchen still has its sunshine/mustard color. I guess the inside of the home wasn't used after the show was canceled. The nine-window door led to the garage where they would rehearse.
    Warner Brothers purchased the lot from Columbia Pictures.
    Blondie Street was developed for the successful adaptation of the newspaper comic strip Blondie. Columbia reinvested the profits generated by Blondie into expanding the lot. Penny Singleton played Blondie. She went on to voice the character of Jane Jetson.

    • @johndavis3921
      @johndavis3921 9 месяцев назад

      @@ChristhirtythreeAD I base my point on the color palette of the kitchen, the door, and the fireplace. They all look screen-used. I heard that some of the homes on the lot were capable of being used for interior filming.
      They used a kitchen setting a lot in the final season. If I recall correctly, the kitchen door was a Dutch door. They would leave the bottom closed, and on at least one occasion, Rueben leaned inside over the lower part of the door to deliver his lines.

    I lived in L.A. for over 10 years and found a lot of historical sites in reference to Hollywood were knocked down and destroyed instead of preserved which is very sad. To this lot, if they torn them down to make a new building for a movie, it would have been nice if they set an area up where they can keep the old buildings for tourists and future use, but they torn them down for an ugly studio destroying a piece of their history and they are not the only ones who have done it over the ages. It is sad, but it's a business that only looks at profit not on preserving.

    • @dentuttle
      @dentuttle 9 месяцев назад +1

      Warner Bros. could have easily kept a portion of Blondie Street, had it designated as historical, and it would been a fine tourist attraction and revenue generator. Instead, they cut down 100-year-old trees and almost 90 years of movie and television history. Inexplicable.
