- The Mini GP is the ultimate track focused road car from BMW Mini and having reviewed the GP3 I wanted to put the Mini GP2 Vs Mini GP3 on road to see if the Mini JCW GP2 is a better car.
The GP2 has a 218-hp The turbo-charged 1.6 L direct-injected four cylinder engine, giving this MINI a 0-60 mph time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 150 mph.
The engine is essentially identical to the N18 used in other 2012 John Cooper Works models, with an increase in compression accounting for the power gain. In keeping with its uncompromising race track heritage, a 6-speed manual gearbox was the only transmission offered. The GP2 also features exclusive 17” wheels, high-performance tyres designed in a special partnership with Kumho, adjustable coil over suspension with revised geometry unique to the GP, 6-piston Brembo® front calipers borrowed from the BMW 135i, a full valance tray and functional rear diffuser, a hatch-mounted spoiler with carbon fibre element, red mirror caps, brake ducts, signature badging, a pair of special-edition RECARO sport seats (complete with side-impact airbags), and deletion of the rear seats to save weight. The stability control suite features an additional "GP mode" exclusive to this model which permits a greater degree of wheel-slip while retaining function of the brake-based electronic limited slip differential. The 288 examples sold in the UK originally retailed for £29,500 and were available in only one configuration.

Enjoyable content as usual Damian, a MINI feature (plus GP as a bonus) will always tick a box with me. The GP2 looks a fun little machine and has lots of character. On balance, I'd probably prefer the latest incarnation, though I accept for the purists that the newer generations are less in keeping with the MINI heritage. Digital dash is making its way into all MINI, my Clubman Cooper Exclusive LCI has it, a very nice bit of kit and a great cabin overall. Good to see you back on the channel.

I love the GP2. I've had my 2013 R56 JCW for 8 years, and I still love it! Looks wise, I can't stand the GP3. I don't care how good it is.

Good video, but it would have been a better review if you had the GP2 & GP3 side by side as a comparison. Oh and just a note ref the brakes. GP3 doesn't have an extra couple of calipers, @ 04.57 mins it has a couple of extra pistons in the calipers. 😉😂😂👍 Which you also mentioned. Slip of the tongue. 😉
Would have loved to have the 2 cars at the same time but I was really lucky to get the GP3 at all. It happened to be in the dealer , drove it the next day and they sold it the day after. Thanks for the correct , easy to make the odd mistake but you know what I meant lol

So you do a review of the GP2 on B roads and don't use sport mode or GP mode.

I am certain it was in sports mode for some of the time
As a GP2 owner and a fan of MINI I would say that MINI lost it is soul unfortunately
They have certainly changed a lot over the generations, I do like the modern minis but i understand where you are coming from in the way they feel a bit like a normal car

I think customers demand more and more from
the cars (gadgets, safety, comfort etc) and if a manufacturer does not offer all of this the customer will go to another manufacturer so they are forced down a path of making similar cars to appeal to most people. What is built I suspect is very much dictated to by what makes the most money and not always what is the most fun 🤔
Hey there. Do you daily drive your GP2? I'm considering one to replace my Fiesta ST. How's ride quality? Is it doable considering I have very bad roads where I live? Not for comfort but for not breaking anything.

Some of the video is national speed limit on the back roads and you must also remember I was driving the car for the day so not all of the experience is on camera , you cannot gauge the full potential of the car on the public road and not going to put anyone’s life at risk for a review !

Trouble here the gp2 has the n18 Prince engine hello timing chain problems clutch dramas suspension overhauls an really costly I will take the gp3
As I am finding out owning a 2002 R53 they seem to cost a small fortune to maintain although I often forget it’s 20 years old
