Metroid's Mother Brain should be on here...
As iconic as that battle was, she didn't really do a lot. She just sat there while you shot missiles at her. Although I agree, in a Top 20 list, she should be included.
I agree actually. Not to get all technical, but the title of this vid says "boss battles". The Mother Brain battle was epic with all the bubbles, the lava (?), running put of !missiles and life, etc. Very ! memorable...
I agree, it should have at least gotten an HM
The Mother Brain left many players on a WTF mode. The amount of ammunition needed was never explaind, and the setting of the fight was just creepy.
Was that not 90s....
Link taking up the Master Sword once again? the Master Sword wasn't a thing until Link to the Past.
But ALTTP is before zelda 1 and 2 in the timeline... So not impossible 😊
@@CrebleStar But in LoZ 1 and 2, he does not use the Master Sword
No one cares. They were fun games. They hadn't made the lore yet. Etc. All your annoyances can be explained with retcon. No one gives a fuck about what the fucking sword was called.
@@WalkerRileyMC lmao chill out bruh, he was just correcting
Great video. Although, Link doesn't use the Master Sword in Zelda II.
And I would've liked to see Mother Brain in there
go Anu I Anu Anu Anu Anu s
Perfect #1 pick! I still have not beaten that guy after over 20 years, and I need closure!
10. Dark Link (The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link) (same)
9. Jashin (Ninja Gaiden)
8. Yellow Devil (Mega Man) (same)
7. Mike Tyson (Mike Tyson's Punch-Out) (same)
6. Sinistar (Sinistar) (same)
5. Dracula (Castlevania) (same)
4. The Mothership (Phoenix) (same)
3. Red Falcon (Contra) (same)
2. MEKA Dragon (Wonder Boy in Monster Land) (different)
1. Ganon (The Legend of Zelda) (different)
Honorable Mentions
Manhandla (The Legend of Zelda) (different)
Dodongo (The Legend of Zelda) (different)
Gleeok (The Legend of Zelda) (different)
Note: I did one boss battle per game, instead of per franchise. Also, no rules at all for my honorable mentions
Once you knew how to beat Ganon, he was super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Cool thanks for the awesome video of top 10 most epic boss battle of the 1980s 👍😎.
Mike Tyson punch out looks like they got mario for the referee lol
Because it is
Nazi troll it was
Mario was in everthing even back when his name was jumpman
The box art shows you what he really looks like.
Contra is such a fun game tho,
No
I swear if Mike Tyson is not on this list...
Well you got what you wanted.
that gap toothed 8bit pic still sends shiver down my spine
Number 1!
they should really bring Wart back into the Mario series
Wart is like the Macaulay Culkin of Super Mario. He got too much too soon.
I agree. I would also like them to bring back dark link. Seems like so many missed opportunities for both franchises to not bring them or the respected worlds back into play!
Always thought wart should be in smash bros, also could do a 3d mario return to dream world and have those returning enemies
I may be late, but having opening footage in #1's pretty great!
Great list!! Thanks for the memories
Absolutely agree with #1. Good choice, no contest.
Pretty Solid List! I Realized that the entire top 5 were all games released in 1987 :D
Yay! I've been waiting for this for so long!!
The only hope I had against the yellow devil was the pause trick
Can't nelieve they didn't mention it!😒
0:24 oh look it's Peter Pan fighting his Shadow!
Oh, Grommit. One of my FAVOURITE catchphrases back in California. You couldn't STOP me from saying that word: Grommit this, Grommit that, THE FUCK DOES GROMMIT MEANS!?
Great idea for a series!
This is so much better than there 90's version of this topic
Really good list!
I'm sure there's a better boss than that Phoenix arcade game no one's ever played outside of MAME. I would second the motion for Joker from Batman NES
The Joker was a 1990 boss. He's also quite easy when you choose to use fists. Getting to him is the harder part.
I did not expect #10 to be on here, but I was sure thinking it!
YES! THIS IS SO GREAT!
I can't wait for the next episode. :)
Excellent choice for #1.
Low res made me read "SHits" instead of "5Hits" in the FF battle. xD
Aha same!
A lot of these I can agree with.
Although you might want to consider these choices for when this list gets a Part 2:
-Blaster Master: Either the Plutonium Boss, or Hard Shell the Crab
-Ninja Gaiden: The demon Jashin
-Double Dragon NES port: Jimmy Lee (for reasons similar to Zelda 2's Dark Link)
Nice to see Wart get some recognition. They need to bring back Subcon and especially the Phantos...
Would have been nice to have Phantos in Mario Maker (they could add it by shaking a Key). But as we can see, they stopped updating the game when they decided to make a vastly inferior port for 3DS. =(
Gustavo Paz On the plus side, Mario Maker was a big success so Nintendo will remember that in the future.
no not the phantos, they were a night mare, great frustating times tho.
The phantos scared me as a kid, as well as the Owl exit flying toward you! 😨
Holy shit! Finally a good top 10 list on this channel!
the good old days when PainStation and Xbone didn't exist
this channel is dead bro
+MaximumPowersGaming no
are you dumb look at their fucking views
they have low views because they release multiple videos per day :)
Blaster master just doesn't get enough love... That last boss was rough, and epic.
Holy shit for once bowser didn't making it into a top 10 bosses list. this is truly a day of history LOL
Bowser might be a great character, but the battles in his first game weren't nearly as epic as some of the later ones.
Mostly because he kind of sucks ass in SMB 1.
My friend and I beat Bubble Bobble in one sitting, it took one hour, the boss took four hours...
Lol. So much truth.
My dad would always yell at us to go outside after half an hour. It's why I didn't beat any NES games until my genesis days.
Did you only do the 100 floors or did you do the secret ones for the true ending too?
I love the new intro
Wish, we Gen Z had the same games like our Gen X parents. Have a great day Gen X, your 80s decade is revolutionary.
TRUE
The modern era has its share of epic bosses. Undertale and Dark Souls, for example, have great bosses.
Don't forget that you're comparing *all* the games of this era to the *best* games of the 80's. All the average/bad games from the 80s get forgotten, making it seem like there were only good games from that time. In 2046 I bet kids will look only at the best games of the 10s and say "I wish we had great games like you guys did back then."
You're right about that, since the Modern Era is a combination of new 3D and old 2D and the era of remakes. We do have great games and downright horrible games.
90s is better.
A Nintendo 64 and a few friends
"... Highly irregular attack pattern..." for the Yellow Devil? Nonsense, as his disassembly is the same pattern, he shoots an easily avoided shot at you, and repeats the process until one of you dies. Once you get the pattern down, that boss is too easy. It's still one of my all-time favorite boss battles I've ever finished.
That is a good list, but it's missing one thing in my opinion: Mother Brain from the original Metroid. This battle had enough suspense, difficulty, flair and action to rival your #1-spot, it should at least have been brought up as an honourable mention.
Seeing Shredder gives me terrible flashbacks...
That fight was intimidating!!
He cut his fingers off
They say Yellow Devil has an irregular attack pattern, but actually that's not true. It has an irregular attack, however the pattern remains the same every time it moves across the screen.
You guys should do a Top 10 Greatest Clowns!
To anyone complaining, Super Mario Bros 3 came out in the US in the 90s
Greatest boss defeat scenes
Turtles 2.... that was my game in the day. Once played it from start to finish while the screen was getting worse and worse because of the cartridge or NES I was on had problems. By the end, I was just a box fighting and avoiding other boxes couldn't even tell what I was fighting. Still completed it.
After 9 awesome bosses and some great honorable mentions, I was certain who the #1 spot was gonna be. NINJA GAIDEN! Oh wait what?
Duck tails was probably the first game I ever completed
"Who knew eating your greens could be so deadly?" People who take coumadin. They know.
Blood thinners?! Why?
You forgot to mention that, in order to defeat "Wart" of Super Mario Bros 2, just throwing vegetables at him was not enough. You had to hit him when his mouth was open for the veggies to have effect.
This is the fourth video I've seen now where no one uses the Select repeat trick on Yellow Devil. Everyone and their brother knew how to pull that off and get by Yellow Devil in one or two cycles.
top 10 epic Boss Battle of the 90s next please
james howe cool
Sonic 3 and Knuckles Final Boss &True Final Boss
I wish they had Fat Cat from Chip and Dale in it . . . *checks* oh it's a 90s game my bad lol. Nice list though. Only one I got to was Count Dracula Duck lol.
Waiting for 10 epic boss battles of all time
this is my type of top 10s from mojo
Lel, I was kinda expecting Yellow Devil
glad the first boss to appear as a sepparat chalenge got the recognision it deserves.
Number 2 not Dracula simply named "the count " 👍
wtf? No Mother Brain? Were you even around in the 80's?
Super Metroid was made in 1994.
+NinjaFalcon2 The original Metroid was released in 86'
lol tht motherbrain was too easy
It kinda was. I guess with her it's all about the build up & the epic escape.
Let's hope the Super Metroid get's into the 90's list
Can you do a top 10 famous movies we didn't know were remakes?
Probaly White Fang would be in a very high place and also, your profile pic scares me
Some of my favorite boss battles of games from the 1980s are Bowser from Super Mario Bros., Belger from Final Fight, Wart from the American version of Super Mario Bros. 2, Tatanga from Super Mario Land, Death Adder from Golden Axe and Sagat from Street Fighter 1 (AKA) Fighting Street).
seeing Wart on the list makes me smile :) Too bad Nintendo insists on Bowser only these days, not to mention the fact Wart never returned after SMB2 ( I would really like to see him as the big bad again.... )
Oh god that yellow devil monster in any mega man game it’s In I had a VERY hard time with that one.
the most surprising thing about dark link in zelda 2 is that it was a last minute adition, according to Meeyomoto.
4:"I am the great Wart! Ah ha ha ha ha!"
3: "BUMOOOOO!!!"
2: "What is a man? A miserable pile of secrets! But enough talk! HAVE AT YOU!"
What about Darkfalz (Dark Force) from Phantasy Star?
that's a tough battle ive beat it before.
Tyson once admitted he couldn't even beat Glass Joe at that game.
3:02 I used to love that game... Sigh, I feel old now.
The only boss battle that mattered in the 80's was fighting your older brother for the controller.
Yes, because growing vegetables in a frog mouth is a entertaining fight XD
Duck Tales... good game, played it and beat a lot.
I dunno, I would've had more fun putting Airman from Mega Man 2 on here. Yellow Devil was tough, but with the pause trick he was actually easy to take out. Air Man, well they wrote a song about him! Still really good list.
Dat Castlevania music is slowed down super hardcore lol.
Machine Gun Willy from Double Dragon should be on this list. One shot and you were dead. Totally agree with your #1 pick.
My best friend and I beat shredder recently at a arcade called Barcade. It took a lot of coins
If you want a real challenge with the Yellow Devil, use just the mega blaster. Only 1 pellet of damage at a time. And that's IF you fire at the precise moment during your jump
Sorely missing: Jacquio from Ninja Gaiden, Shredder from TMNT NES, and the end boss of Final Fantasy II. Get rid of Chaos, Wart, and the Alien Lair. Oh, and no mention of Mother Brain?
Ngl, Grumple grommet (Super Drunk) may look easy, but he's actually pretty hard the first few attempts.
It's dangerous to go alone, take this!
developers missed a big one by not calling that boss 'Count Duckula'
Dracula from Castlevania III is more iconic to me and far more difficult, and the final stage is no cakewalk either....
There are a few Bowser boss battles I could see in the 90's list...
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Baby/Giant Bowser)
Super Mario 64
I would personally give it to Yoshi's Island. The music in that one just makes it spooky.
The Dynamite Duke final boss was difficult... as hell... that mad scientist/alien/power ranger bad guy
"mad scientist/alien"
I'm thinking of a Mega Man II character..
Wither Storm, Ivor, Aiden and the Blaze Rods, White Pumpkin and more
Actually, I thought the original Nintendo Batman game Joker fight and the huge ending duel in Double Dragon deserved places here.
sinistar and shredder! got so mad the one time i got to play the arcade for tmnt. made it to the end just to run out of quarters. that sucked.
Super Mario 2 was the best!
I totally agree with you, and I just can't believe that some people wanted the version that originally came out in Japan despite the face that it's just a harder version of the first SMB with hardly anything new in terms of presentation. :P
Casey Decker
It was just so whacky the music the bad guys the bosses not to mention being able to pick from 4 characters. Toad's pick up speed is insane!
Mike Hunt And that's not really a bad thing at all, especially since the game had a profound effect on all the other Mario games to follow afterwards. For instance, it was the first game to have Luigi in his distinguishable style instead of him just looking like a pallet-swap version of Mario, and it was the game to feature the appearance of characters such as Shy Guys, Bob-ombs, and Birdos.
Casey Decker
Ya it was all around great imo. It makes me want to play it.
Yeah, scandal was fun.
I know that we're not there yet, but I hope that the Champion Gary battle is high up on the 90s list.
Gary?
Oh shit, my bad lol. I was thinking Gold/Silver/Crystal hahaha
*Blue
don't forget earthbound
At least one of the following 90s bosses: M. Bison (SF2), Kekfa (FF6), and Bowser (SMW) should be on the 90s list.
I would have liked to see the machine-gun dude from Double Dragon make the list.
If the Cyberdemon isn't in the top 3 of the 90's list, I'm gonna be pissed.
In Super Mario Advance, Wart ends up bleeding from his eyes.
Bowser in Super Mario Bros 3 was a fun fight.
I'd also add Dark Force from the original Phantasy Star, and Mother Brain from the original Metroid.
I've always wanted to knock out a former heavyweight boxing champion. Instead I found myself with the honor of being knocked out by one...
At first I was mad there was no Dedede, but he's from the 90's.
Where's mother brain in this?
The Mother Brain fight hardly seemed epic as it just sat there doing nothing while the weapon turrets tried to kill you. The only thing that made it interesting was the escape after the fight.
The Mother Brain fight in Super Metroid definitely was epic and should be on the next list.
+cian murphy That would be "Top 10 Most Iconic Boss Battles" or "Top 10 Most Iconic Boss Battles of the 1980s"
Bet you she'll be in the 90's list though for Super Metroid.
+TheDuckClock She'd better be!
Chaos - Final Fantasy
Shredder - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade
Dracula - Castlevania
Bowser - Super Mario Bros. 3
Joker - Batman
Sinister - Sinistar
Mothership - Phoenix
7:02 - You guys obviously never defeated Yellow Devil. His disassembly/assembly pattern is regular and it shoots a single shot at you from its eye, then repeat until one of you is destroyed. It's very easy once you get the pattern down.
No Mother Brain feels like a fail. Wart sort of sucked--hence why Bowser came back immediately the the series staple. I honestly would have liked to see a boss from Golden Axe.
not even an honorable mention. how sad.
omg Chaos was so freaking hard!!! it took me MONTHS to beat him
Wow, I'm shocked that Mario Bros. 2 beat out Bowser from Mario 3 for that slot.
I'm mad that mother brain didn't get an honorable mention at least
4:47 "Taking up the master sword..."
Except that the Master Sword wasn't in this Zelda game, let alone wasn't a thing in the series, yet.
Here are my picks for top 10 most epic boss battles of the 1980's
10) Death Adler- Golden Axe
9) Lucifer- Ghouls and Ghosts
8) The Large Creature(it really didn't have a name)- Splatterhouse
7) Red Falcon- Contra
6) Mr. Big- NARC
5) Shredder- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
4) Sinastar- Sinastar
3) Dark Link- Zelda 2: A link to the past
2) Count Dracula- Castlevania
1) Bowser- Super Mario Bros 1,2 (Japanese version), and 3 (of course the American version was a different game in general, you can play the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros 2 on the Super NES as know as Super Mario Bros. The Lost levels).
