Flappy Birds should be on the list.
Honorable mention: Geometry Dash

Prehistirk Nes It s too damn long ! Ooogaa boggaaa Dinosaurs raided your town kitchen last night and winter is near . Go find KFC and go to Ice Wasteland to get bones so we wont starve It takes 5 hours to reach the middle on Easy and on Hard you get the girl on easy you get a pep talk .
“Hello everybody my name is Markiplier and welcome to ‘Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy’. Now this game is gonna be totally fair, not rage inducing at all, and I’m gonna keep my sanity in this!”
- Markiplier before he loses his mind
Watching his playthrough of this game made me believe it would be like #1 on the list. Interesting to see it wasn't.
@@EricaTheDerp agreed. It definitely should have been on here
One trick to make Silver Surfer a little easier is knowing that if your shots pass through an object, so can you. If your shots don't pass through it then touching it will kill you.
Raid Shadow Legends should be #1. You don't even need to play it to melt all your brain cells.
It really is the "cancer of games"
Shots fired
I'm just sick of youtubers advertising the hell out of it.
@@ARIXANDREthat's the cancer of games? Not the RUclips rs bear pizza game, among us, the f. Kid shooter with Thanos and any other popular thing?
These kinds of comments needs to be in top 10...watch mono note it down...😂😂😂
Out of all the Mario Party games, the original one is definitely the most cruel. Boards with unforgiving mechanics, unbalanced minigames, the infamous control stick rotating games, and how freaking malicious Bowser is in this game. Mario Party 1 is always a hard game to go back to all things considered.
ESPECIALLY if it's the dreaded Bash n Cash when you're the target and your opponents are actually players, not AI.
Like, that one time it was the Bowser version of the minigame; I didn't get hit at all. And he congratulate me by coughing up 15 of my coins. WHAT KIND OF SENSE IS THAT?!
@@maytheprincessofhoenn619 "The player in the Bowser suit must run, run away. You don't even want to hear the words 'Bash 'n' Cash'." -Aforementioned mini-game explanation
Super Meat Boy - honorable mention.
In addition to the Mario Party Series, Mario Kart series can be just as brutal, from the insane rubberband A.I. in Super Mario Kart and 64, to Mario Kart Wii's insane Blue Shell spawn rate and items like the Thundercloud
I think those games are based on luck, not cruel design.
I can confirm the bots do indeed cheat on Mario Kart. It was on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I was playing with a friend who's extremely good at the game. It was the third lap and he passes the finish line first, Link passes a few seconds after (making him second place) but it said Link got first place. We even watched the replay and Link clearly was in second place the whole time. My friend was pissed lol
@@zachariahgrubb3802 Yep theirs always at least two Rival Racers who go absolutely apeshit fast and aggressive when they fall behind.
Mario Kart 64 Mirror mode on Toads Turnpike, the A.I. literately phase right through the traffic if their not in your line of sight
The fact that The Lost Levels is harder than Cat Mario is hysterical
Oh gawd. I still have nightmares about Ninja Gaidan. I completed it, but the curses and slurs that came out of my mouth while playing that game would make a sailor blush, and got me grounded many a time lol. Same with Battle Toads, though that still remains one of my favorite old school games ever.

Thank you bro!
Driver should've been in there, I could never get my licence.
@@sovietonion72 I never got passed the tutorial on Driver.
I feel like they still ended up putting games on the list that are hard more than cruel. I think Lisa: The Painful deserves a spot here. At several points in the game you're forced to choose between the life of a party member and your inventory/money/limbs. Then party members can also leave your party randomly for good, or get kidnapped, and then the game forces you to pay money to rescue them.
MK 2 is cruel. If you dont know how to exploit the AI. You will not be beating that game
Fear and Hunger also deserves a spot
Lisa the Painful is, as far as I can tell, just a remake of Lisa: The Joyful made for more modern systems. That being said, both of those versions and the sequel to the original should be on this list. No other game series makes their protagonist sacrifice so much without just killing them.
I'm just going to put it out there: Getting Over It is one of my favourite games ever. Once you play it enough times, get the hang of the controls and learn the nuances, it's a great time, relaxing even. It's also all a matter of accepting the fact that there will be screwups and not letting yourself get mad.
My record for this game is 11 minutes or so and I've beaten it over sixty times.
Imagine if all modern video games had three lives. Welcome to the arcade days….
fun fact about superman 64: WB wanted it to be as impossible as can be, not for the player but for the developer. they sold the IP to them and only later realized they could have sold it to a bigger company so they just made it relentlessly difficult for the developer to meet expectations.
Contra was quite hard, but I wont call it cruel. An experienced player can easily solo it, it gave clear objectives, continues, one ups and all. It rewards you for getting better, not just in obvious sense, but like the more points you score and the less you die, the more lives you get.
Compare it with Ninja Gaiden which needs you to be at the edge of your seat whole time. It gives very little margin for mistakes and to make it worse, there is a timer on. When I got to final boss in one of the early games, I couldnt even figure out how to attack it, it wasnt taking any damage from me at all. If I am not wrong, if you die in it, you had to start from the beginning, though its been a while and I might be wrong on that
Contra isn't too bad if you use the Konami Code, which EVERYONE knew back in the day
can confirm contra was not that hard.
I agree, but the hardest and unfair to me is Hard Corps on the Sega Genesis.
Right now i am stuck on the final stage axis mundi from catherine full body a 3d climbing platformer. The worst part is i climbed 3/4 of the tower and can already see the top and need like 30 steps to crack it but it gets so difficult/unfair on that final part its gonna take forever and a lot of luck to finally reach the summit.@@mattiasolsson1523
If you die in the final bosses (yes, plural) of Ninja Gaiden, you don't go back to the beginning of the game, but you do go back to the beginning of Stage 6-1, which is bad enough. Supposedly that was a bug and the developers didn't intend it that way.
Ghosts n Goblins was a game I spent many coins on before and after school. Finally beat it only to have to do it again even harder, man that sucked... good times lol
Not on the list, but the very first game I was ever exposed to that I think easily qualifies despite being an arcade game: The Tower of Druaga, and especially the extra modes in the Namco Museum Vol. 3 release.
11:53 Super Star Wars WAS re-released on PS4 and Vita.
I played it on both of those platforms. Got 100% trophies in both versions.
If you want to experience what cruelty is in an XCOM game, play the original X-COM and its sequel, X-COM Terror of the Deep.
X-COM 2 destroyed my faith in my decision making abilities. Are you saying the first one is even tougher?
not quite the same vein, but "Might and Magic IV: Mandate of Heven" the endgame could be listed. even using the flight exploit to hunt the dragons of the desert, (which is still hard, btw) you still need more to get to the end of the game.
I've never had an issue with being able to miss when close in XCOM. Nobody is a perfect shot at any range. That said, XCOM2 is absolutely brutal anyways.
Vexx should on here, it's an absolute grind to scrounge up enough Wraithhearts to get to the final boss, who is then mind-numbingly difficult to beat
Also Impossible Lair before they added checkpoints. The game is a breezy and fairly forgiving DKC clone for most of the game, but then the final level is a 20 minute (or more) marathon that you have to start over from the beginning every time you die. You can earn extra hit points on the final level by playing through the game, but the Impossible Lair has SO many frustrating sections where you can lose multiple hit points in quick succession that it still ends up being a complete slog.
i heard somewhere that the "impossible lair" area is actually comprised of a bunch of areas that were originally rejected as TOO HARD.
Even though they're not on the list, I say Castlevania 1 and 3 was hard (I haven't played Simon's Quest). While both had stiff controls, 1 because of two notoriously frustrating areas right before Death and Dracula (the one with Heavy Knights tossing their axe boomerangs while Medusa heads flying around, and the clock tower with the birds dropping off the hunchback fleamen teasing you). And three not only having scroll sections, but that one particular boss where you fight a clone of Trevor and whatever ally joined him.
But on to what's actually on here was スーパーマリオブラザーズ2 (on NES and All-stars). I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty hard; but it's worth navigating the game's 8 worlds (no warp zone pipes) to check out the hidden 9th world (plus beating the latter's 4 lettered worlds to truly beat the game).
‘Contra’ was difficult but also a fun game.
You'd think Superman owed the Narrator money with how much he got worked up. 🤣
Top Ten Most Hated Common Enemies in Video Games
Every enemy in Metropolis Zone from Sonic 2.
All the NES, SNES, playstation games were my childhood. I played/owned most of these. That explains a lot now, lol. TMNT, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Super Ghost & Goblins just to name a few. I would basically rage quit one game just to torture myself again in another (didnt know it at the time, was just a kid who loved videogames.) At that age, you just think you suck, lol.
ARGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!.... Battletoads just triggered my PTSD. Thanks a lot :P
All kidding aside, I never made it past Rat Race. That level was just impossible for me at the tender age of 11.
Honorable mentions should go to Lion King and Top Shop. Top shop is a game all about chance similar to Mario Party
Lion King had 2 specific levels that had so many 1 hit kill traps specifically the second level and the lava level. The lava level was the most frustrating bc you only got a set amount of lives and continues. Lose all of them and you had to start from the beginning.
Stuntman was probably the first game I ever rage quit or began my raging in general.
That game is ridiculous. Great concept but its nutso
15:07 Of course, the next Mario game we got after SMB1 was not the one with the Lost Levels. It was Super Mario Bros. 2.
I freaking loved Stuntman. It's basically a memory game. Eventually you remember everything in a sequence and it gets easy. I'm all for a Stuntman remake.
Me too. I hope they keep the scoring system as well, that was my biggest issue with Ignition. You could just powerslide through each sequence and get a 100%.
Fun fact. Games were purposely hard/unfair in the 90s so people couldn’t beat the game in a weekend when people went to blockbuster to rent games. I’m sure everyone knew this though
I think they're starting to do that again but with digital sales games. They've shortened the amount of time and play hours you can ask for a refund, and the games ramped up the difficulty even if you set it to the lowest difficulty or they just make you do random tasks and travel around a lot. People were speedrunning through entire expensive games and asking for a refund. They screwed the rest of us over though because sometimes you don't find that gamebreaking glitch or things don't become incompatible until a week later.
@@mr44mag I’m literally playing tears of the kingdom rn and was feeling the same. I love this game but the amount of hours exploring is insane
#10 i read something in a review of "super empire strikes back":
if you pick up an item that increases max health while you are riding a Tauntaun, ITS health will be increased, and YOURS won't!
THAT is pretty cruel.
22:08 "…we'd rather play the other games on this list than have to go through this [expletive] again!"
Wow… even Superman 64? 😂😂😂
Super Star Wars wasnt TOO bad. It was possible to farm 99 lives a few levels in, which should be enough to carry you to the end of the game.
Super Empire Strikes Back was unplayable for me. It looked great and I really wanted to beat it, but the first level alone completely turned me off. The re-spawning enemy and projectile spam was off the charts.
I never played Super RotJ.
22:08 That commentary tho- 😂
The playthrough of "I wanna be the guy" is still one of most impressive things I've ever seen.
Damn😅, that "Oh My gosh that was close" 20:55 Had me dying.
Super Mario 2 (j) is basically what we'd know call DLC. It was a budget title, originally only released on the Famicom Disk System expansion, and starts at a difficulty where the original SMB leaves off. The guy playing here seems like they've not played the original first.
yeah, Markiplier had a furiously hard time in that game "Getting Over It With Bennet Foddy", trust me, I watched his walkthrough and everytime... everytime he tried over and over again in getting to the end, I watched in sadness that everytime he tried to keep on climbing to the VERY top, he kept falling and falling and falling AND falling back down to where he was originally, he would get so angry, he kept on throwing a temper tantrum, and breaking down in tears, honestly, the guy who created this cruel game oughta be sued down to the last penny, for making Markiplier suffer like this.
Not to mention the cruelty he did to his chair by throwing it across his room a few times! That poor chair deserves the compensation tbh 😂
But yeah the rage Mark went through was insane!
@@GeoToni13 no kidding, but like I said before, the guy who made the game oughta be sued.
Top 20 Ratchet and Clank Weapons
good idea👍
Good idea. I just started replying the one on the PS2 after 10 plus years
Any iteration of the RYNO would be high on that list. For me, I'd put Mr. Zurkon and family up there as well.
Love your videos guys😊😊
Battletoads pause music such a jam!
For me its Tomb Raider iv the last revelation. That game is very cruel, confusing and hard with booby traps around every corner and a unforgiving manuel save system with no checkpoints. There's even fire bats that if they touch lara she goes up in flames and its a guaranteed game over. Then there's the mind boggling puzzles. 😢
I watched my older brother torture himself with stuntman. I'm pretty sure anytime he sees a tuk tuk in a movie he gets flashbacks
THx for taking STUNT MAN into the list! ;-)
I had this game...
Oh and about Super Man 64 do I really have to say something about? ;-)
Sinistar should have been in this. Especially after you die once. Because when you do your roaly screwed 😢
if you fail to get enough "sinibombs" before he says "i hunger", you are definitely screwed
Markplier playing Getting over it: Oh shut up with the goddamn music I hate you!
I was always so proud my kids enjoyed playing video games as much as I did, even when young.... but we'd play those Mario party games and tested the durability of the controllers, because it was brutally funny sometimes! 🍻🌎♥️🎶🕺
And there's me just thinking I was bad at Stuntman for all these years. And yeah, hats off to anyone that's beat Le Turt. on NES legitimately. I've always had a love hate with that one since a kid.
I can actually say that I finished the PS2 Stuntman, and you didn't mention the best part! You had absolutely no prior idea of what the stunts will actually be until you're there, doing them with the director screaming in your ear. Door hop the van! Overtake the car! Hard left! Anxiety incarnate.
Whoever created Cat Mario is a menace dude literally died once the level was complete 😂
Lmfaoooooo I KNEW Battle Toads, Ninja Gaiden, & Ghosts’n Goblins were gonna be on here! Haha
It's interesting starting off the video with MK. I just watched a tournament ladder with Havik.
TMNT was hard, but I managed to beat it. Contra was fairly challenging, but SMB The Lost Levels was too overwhelming and I couldn’t get through it.
I did beat SMB 2 (LL) once. I vowed never to play it again after
The fact that Fear And Hunger isn't on this list is a travesty
I beat Stuntman. The final sequence is brutal, so when my 15-year-old cleared it 100%, you can bet your toaster I recorded that sucker for posterity on my phone.
You know Some games are really Stressing you OUT.
Fighters Uncaged should be on this list. For those who don't know what this game is, it's a Kinect video game that was released when Microsoft introduced us to the Xbox Kinect system. It was labelled as the one of the worst games in Kinect history by those who played it. The Kinect motion sensors do not always recognise your fighting poses, and it's even less likely you'll be able to win matches without taking a punch, no matter how hard you try to achieve a perfect victory in each fight. And don't get me started on the opponents you have one-on-one matches with, as in every fight, not only do they do plenty of trash-talking, but their A.I. gameplay system allows them to cheat their way into getting the first victory. Those who played this game and found it frustrating will know what I'm talking about.
Number 7 The REAL Super Mario Bros. 2, would have been fun to play back in the day, but no wasn't released till the S.N.E.S.
Not sure if it would make this list but Resident Evil 0 on hard difficulty is brutal so annoying but you need to beat it to get the trophy maybe in a hardest achievements games or single achievements list also flappy bird is just cruel as well 😂
Contra is one of the best games ever made. I will admit that the cheat code make it much more fun though
I was shocked at how difficult MKII was. I was determined to beat it in one run, and it took me a few hours (I have the Arcade Kollection). But man, when I finally defeated Shao Kahn, it felt so satisfying.
I would include the first Street Fighter. The difference is night and day between that and its classic sequel. SF1 has random difficulty among its opponents, which helps make some of the fights unfair. The hit detection is just as frustrating. But the worst part is the broken, delayed controls. Even when I press the right combination of buttons, special moves happen at random.
0:00 *Flashbacks from Mario Plays Unfair Mario from SMG4 intensifies*
I knew I Wanna Be The Guy was going to be on this list. I'm surprised Zelda 2 and Celeste wasn't on here tho
Mario Party Buddy stars were the best when you were playing with a whole bunch of competitive people! Specially if you'd had a couple of drinks first
I was just watching KSI and Deji play Cat Mario, omg it was so funny and hilarious. Obviously the video was old but going back and watching their old videos was funny.
Mario party dosen’t feel cruel to me, its about luck you need. But the mini games can sometimes be unfair But call it cruel probably not.
Agreed!
id say it more based on RNG then anything
@@mattalan6618 that's what he means by luck
16:24 I can feel the anger and pain in the narrator's voice here 😂😂😭
While many of my childhood memories are hazy, I think I managed to finish Ninja Gaiden - I think even the instruction booklet had a blurb about "all a matter of endurance".
22:12: You know what you're in for in the NES version of Dragon's Lair when one of WatchMojo's narrators drops a cus bomb
Actually, there is something from Super Mario Brothers: Lost Levels you forgot to mention. I remember there was this one level where I had to make a certain hidden block to that was invisible until I hit it to make a beanstalk rise up to get to the end of the level or I'd repeat on an endless loop. I had to look it up online how to do it. I can't remember which level, but I remember that happening when I was playing the lost levels on my Switch.
Luigi winning Mario party by “doing nothing.” I see what you did there 😏
Up down up down AB left right. If you know, you know. I like how games I played as a kid are on this list
I wanna be the boshy surely deserves a spot on this list. It's essentially I wanna be the guy but much harder
The Nerd hates Silver Surfer. His video about the game is funny as hell, but still *DAMN!*
"It's like if you touch the floor, you die. Touch the ceiling, you die. Too far to the right, you die. Too far to the left, you die. You die, die, die, die, DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE!"
Section Z, and Wizardry, both for the NES. Those should be on this list as well. Millions know of the franchise Wizardry, but almost no one remembers Section Z.
I always thought the death animation of Dragon’s Lair was unnerving.
Ah yes, Ninja Gaiden and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The number one causes of premature hair loss in kids. Stressful homework? Bullying? Loss of a loved one? Nope. Those abominations. Also, Shao Kahn a punk, just jump and do a weak punch without moving forwards or backwards. He usually won't retaliate. I figured out how to cheese him fast.
I haven't played many games, so I can't stay for sure if any were cruel or frustrating.
I was thinking why are videogame creators so cruel, than i had to watch 6 differents adds to finish this video, the guys that make these and ad this to the video, they are the real cruel villains
from the screencap I thought for sure it was Rust. It would definitely fit lol
The rage that brew up in me when you said battle toads 🤬 aint no ways they created a game that hard 🤦🏽♂️
Forgot to mention RoboCop vs Terminator on the Genesis that game was brutal
Pewdiepies playthrough of Getting over it is the most epic playthrough ever!
That Bennett Foddy game looks like it inspired Skibbidy Toilet!
I never had a single issue of cruelty playing MK2, either in the arcades, consoles, or PC. Shao Kahn in MK2 was pretty easy, as he was in MK3 (and all of the variations). In MK9 he was a pain in the ass and Blaze (in Armageddon I believe) was MUCH worse in my opinion.
When I played battletoads as a kid, I thought I sucked at video games lol. Only to find out in early 200’s that it was tough and that it wasn’t just me
I don't think the Super Star Wars series was that hard at all.
I had all 3, and they were all basically no harder than any other game at the time.
The only reason the games seem to be on this list is because of the fact that they have life counts and no tutorials, unlike most modern games.
But that wasn't what made them hard.
It was just a matter of learning patterns and the fact that there is usually only one way to win (practice),
There are some games that you are almost required to use something like a Game Genie to even have the slightest chance of making any kind of progress. And with ROM-hack's there are some that were specifically designed to not be beaten. Even if you have low blood pressure these will make your blood pressure go so high that you have a stroke. I'm not kidding on that. These games are not even safe to play as they will enrage you to the point of vomiting right where you all while causing your blood pressure to end up dangerously high.
Had Dragon's Lair for the NES... never got past the draw bridge...
I had Contra and didn't think much of it but also didn't play it much, I think I only passed the mine level a couple times in Ninja Turtles
Super meat boy is the cruelest game I’ve ever played, it’s like they intentionally made the controls bad just to make the game hard
I Wanna Be the Guy and Ninja Gaiden Black should be on this list!!!
I'm so glad Ghosts and Goblins was on this list, that game was a living nightmare and the sequel, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, was just as unforgiving. Also I would've said the Mario Kart series is more unfair than the Mario Party games. Also I would give a mention to Fantasia for the Sega Genesis, that game was god-awful.
I think it’s amazing that people can’t pronounce easy words or names like “Mario”
22:12 Whoa keep it PG dude
"SUPER STAR WARS... Why this wasn't re-released for the PS4 and Vita, we'll never know."... Eh, what?? It WAS re-released for the PS4. From Disney/ Code Mystics. Maybe he meant "was re-released"? Either way.. It's a rough game, but hardly unfair if you know what you're doing. Rule 1.. Stick around on levels until you've collected many power ups and health sword extensions. This makes the game much easier. 2. Repeat 1...
