Be careful pumping at higher speeds, I broke my elbow last week being a lil dum dum on a minicruiser. Was pumping while going too fast and slipped out. Awesome vid, keep em coming!
I’m new to skateboarding and have watched a LOT of videos on carving. This one by FAR explains it the best. Having said that, I also almost turned it off bc the intro was so obnoxious. 😂 Glad I stuck it out, and thanks for the info dude!
It’s been 2 years since I watched your video, and now, I pump whenever I could, on my cruisers, my surf skates and my pintails. It’s so much more efficient to pump when already at high speed to sustain speed than to push. Thanks for the video!
Dude I’ve been trying to figure this out, and have read and watched so damn much, and this was definitely one of the best explained and most helpful videos. Can’t wait to practice again! Thanks!
BEST pump guide, today is the 3rd day of my very first longboard a loaded icarus. I never had a skateboard before BUT my main goal is never have to put my foot in the ground again, there is so many acid latic right that I cant move for at least 1 week LOL
@@bruah4364 Sure it's possible. By doing tick-tacks you can produce momentum too without putting feet on ground. :) PS: but you're right. pumping with a skateboard is *impossible*.
@@Unknown-DE I saw one guy that could swear he did 10km with a normal longboard (flex, paris trucks reverse something) just pumping without a single push. Well, I will be trying until I'm able to do what I saw people on loaded videos doing. I already can at least extend to 2x the distance if I dont do nothing
Begginner here, thanks for this! im gonna practice it as soon as I master my impulse, its been my second day and well my balance is not that good. So I have a lot to learn. Thanks again!
Hi man, I just bought a cruiser board with very little board experience, but I'm feeling really confident about it! I live on a campus so there's a lot of nice space to practice and your videos definitely help me too! Can't wait to be able to pump properly :)
Today for the first time i pumped my old yamba with tunnel krakatoa wheels. I didn’t want it, i wasn’t thinikin about it and it came out naturally, it’s been so strange... usually i cruise with my slide surfskate, i can’t believe i can pump this little toy ( except the very good wheels and bearings). It’s very cool 😎
I got my longboard yesterday I cant seem to keep my board moving without kicking as much.. I got a skateboard previously but I cant seem to tackle many tricks.. so i tried cruising and dancing on longboard and its funnnn
Using a topmount board and wedging the front trucks 5 degrees and de-wedging the rear truck 5 degrees will improve the pumpablility of your board. Also getting a bracket board such as a G-bomb can be a fun pumper.
Thanks a lot, I think NOW I finally understood how pumping works. I've seen a lot of videos but never really got it. Now it'd practice practice practice...
Here it is! Thank you! That’s so awesome. This is definitely the best tutorial on RUclips. Hopefully it is good enough to help me being successful with pumping.
Been wanting to do this from watching Stacey Peralta do it in the old movie “Freewheelin.” He’s able to generate power on flats. I have been trying on a regular street setup and I’m starting to get it. Thanks for the extra tips!

I was struggling with this for a while, every video I saw didn't help. I went longboarding after watching the video and almost immediately figured it out.
Thank you your the best 👌 I'm just learning beginner when I get better I'm getting a electric skateboard. What do you think of electric skateboard? I'm only using for commute not for backflip because it break it.
As soon as I get one, yes! And that’s on my list. For now I’m practicing dancing with my tan tien because it’s basically a dancer board that’s drop through
Good Job! I'd love to see you cover the waterborne surfskate kit. I got one for my Loaded Omakase but Its my first board and am waiting until I am a little more skilled at riding.
@Ogden Sikel Thanks for the video. Your movement looks already pretty good but there is still space for a lot of improvement. You can work with only feets, only legs, only core body, only shoulder and who guessed it only arms. When you combine all factores you become a little god in pumping. There is a nice Video of Vlad Popov who did a great job of how do well with your body to accelerate your longboard. I know how hard it is to teach someone to get the idea of pumping right. But I also want to mention something very important you didn't state (please correct me If I just didn't catch it up in your video): Wheelbites: Guys!!! Please care about your health. Most longboards are not intended to be that much pressured like it is happening when pumping. I started myself with a drop-through longboard and it becomes very likely that when you get too confident with pumping that you run into wheelbites because you hit the cut-outs of a drop-through longboard or the longboard itself in case of a top-mount longboard. A wheelbite occurs when the wheel is touching the longboard. And you can guess what happened to me after getting too confident... I fell very badly two or three times, but to my luck I am a god doing great rolls so I didn't got any injuries. > So if interested in pumping and I mean real pumping, then please riser your longboard properly to prevent wheelbites. You can test it by standing at the very left or right side of the longboard with all your weight and when you get stopped by the wheels it gets very likely you run into wheelbites. When preasuring your weight while riding there is more force than you could test with only your weight, so please consider this too. :) @Ogden Sikel So the most important question is: was that just a wheelbite? ruclips.net/video/rAodfWfPIYs/видео.html ? :D PS: I surely would not ever ride with a "normal" longboard anymore. At some point you have to decide if you want to make it professional (hard learning and long distance pumping oriented setup) or you just want have some fun. I just tell you this, because the above instructions are based on many years of experience where I started with a normal longboard and and ended with a high end setup and a lot more knowledge) and I hope someone will read the above and prevent any injuries to himself. :)
I'm having trouble and I don't know if it is because the board is too stiff. I've been skateboarding for almost 30 years and am still trying to learn something new.
I'm struggling with trucks: How tight/loose they should be? I can sense your rare truck (longboard) is tighter than the front one, that's the way I use them. But I'm 38, so I'm not as energic as you are and of course want more stability rather than any other thing. Not sure If I should make the front truck looser as I already feel it bends a lot, but it still doesn't turn so stiff. Still haven't practiced the carving, but I'm up to it next.
I just learned (and now relearned) to ride at 32 and jumping while riding sounds like a good way to break a leg or neck. Any suggestions on how to do this at a more....advanced age?
You don't actually jump. You turn hard back and forth on the front truck and follow with a snake-like action with the back foot. I'm 14 years older than you and learned last year.
Im not sure if I am doing something wrong but I feel like im not gaining any speed or sustaining it, neither am I losing speed. I just get same same distance with pumping as I would do without doing it. Can you maybe tell me what Im doing wrong? I have 80a wheels on a drop through deck that is 100 cm long. Any help is appreciated!!

Hmmm. I’d say try to practice more than just a few times a month. Get out a few times a week if possible. Make sure like 70-80% or your weight is mostly on your front foot to give you the most control, and you could also try putting your other foot on the front of the board (maybe you’re actually riding switch but don’t know it...that can be uncomfortable for some ppl)

Hi Ogden, from what I've been reading the ldp set up is a tighter back truck. I have a long board I'm using for distance pushing and pumping..but I like the feel of big surf carves..should I keep the Rear truck lose like the front? Or tight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos;)
Honestly it really depends on you and how it feels for your riding experience because everyone has a different preference. You can pump on any setup as long as your trucks overall are loose enough to turn easily. I don't even know what truck is looser for me I just tighten them up, try out the board, and adjust until it feels good to me. So while tighter back truck does work for some people, its all personal preference really.
Hey ! I bought a cruiser board but I wanna know which board is best for commuting more than 5 kms at a stretch ? Also, can we use surfskate for the same purpose ?
I have some difficulty to pump my longboard. Its energy consuming, I believe I am too used to using a surfskate, and to movement is different. I will continue to try... I already changed the bushings, installed a Bennett truck and added two wedge plates so... The problem should be me🤔
Well pumping does definitely take a lot of energy on longer boards. It isn’t always the most practical but it’s fun and can help you get a good workout in lol!
I like the orangatang stimulus 70mm 86a personally. Not too hard, not too squishy. For bushings, maybe 85a or 87a? I don’t like super squishy bushings.
I'm not as good as him but I've been longboarding for 5years. As for the wheels - depending on your board, but as a general rule... The bigger the more comfortable! Obviously also faster but harder to accelerate. Anywhere between 68/70 to 80mm is good, but again: if you're at risk of wheel bite play it safe. Hardness depends on you're planning to do with it. In general, for anything except freeriding, I'd say go as soft as you can because there's really no reason not to. Unless you want to slide with it, then it's a completely different story Bushings... ahah it's complicated. Want to go fast? 90/95A double barrels are your friends. Want to have fun on flat? I'm using 85As double cones. Want a good all around? Something like an 85 mix (one barrel, one cone) is probably a good choice. Consider that the boards length will influence the feeling of the turns anyway, so giving advice is really hard. Best advice I can give you: invest €10 more and get more choices ;) Sorry for the long reply
I'm quickly finding that a cruiser board isnt recommended for beginners like me that have trouble steering on a board. I usualy do quick short sprints when skateboarding to do tricks. Since riding my dinghy im finding it very high of the ground and too responsive with the slightest turn. My board did an unintended 90 degree turn when i put a bit of pressure on my heel side not good if a pedestrian was coming towards me D: At least i know what to look for now when buying.
Carving isn’t exactly pumping. Carving slows you down because turning the board in long sweeps generates more friction with the ground. Pumping is throwing your weight side to side which generates forward momentum if done right, which actually is more powerful than the friction forces from the wheels therefore making you accelerate

My board did an unintended 90 degree turn when i put a bit of pressure on my heel side not good if a pedestrian was coming towards me D: At least i know what to look for now when buying.
Dog you gotta try the waterborne adapter front and back

Your voice is nice :)
how loose should i soften the screw on the wheels ?
awesome
Can you pump cruiser board?
I thought carving which pumping uses slows you down tho
Carving isn’t exactly pumping. Carving slows you down because turning the board in long sweeps generates more friction with the ground. Pumping is throwing your weight side to side which generates forward momentum if done right, which actually is more powerful than the friction forces from the wheels therefore making you accelerate
thank you so much for this...you really explained it well
