I am 39, and mostly sedentary my whole life. All cardio felt like torture to me. Yesterday I watched your video and learned how to pump on a surfskate within the first hour of trying. My heart was beating fast, the exercise was really exausting, but I did not want to stop! It was really fun! Thank you for the lesson, I think I found my sport!
In my opinion surfskating is way more fun than regular skateboarding. It is now hard to go back when I am very use to having a higher mobility just a warning to others if you get to surfskating
same sentiment man. i cant go back to "normal" longboard. lost all my balance which due to my muscle memory but one thing for sure, i regretted not to know about aurfskate wayyyyy earlier
Great video, thanks for the tips. Learning to surfskate at 66 after being off a skateboard for 40 years. It hurts quite a bit more when I hit the ground. Your videos rock!
I bought a skateboard for my daughter, tried it several times and realized that I really liked it too. I looked on the website for how to choose a skateboard, bought it and took a training course. As a result, I mastered it within a few hours in two lessons. I really liked the lessons, even for me who did not speak English well, the course turned out to be simple, interesting and understandable.
Man, I’m 59 and have been riding since I was 7 !! I am a well seasoned rider. I have a 1979 Simms wide original pump board. I build my own longboards and have a few brand name rare ones as well. I recently installed a set of sidewinders on a board I made and it rocks !!!! Thanks for the video !!! I forwarded it to several friends 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼 I just wanted to tell you that was one of the best how to videos I have ever seen !!! You rock man !!!! Keep it up 👍🏼🤙🏼✌🏼
I'm trying to keep everything in mind but there seems to be a rhythm that is going to come together suddenly. I am on very flat terrain so I feel that generating enough speed to sustain is a challenge. I'll figure it out I'm sure but I want to thank you for board size recommendation charts and all the other videos I've been watching.
Cool laces. The arm step may seem irrelevant, but, it's really not. In surfing, that particular arm movement comes naturally just to accomplish the momentum to ride the board on the wave. That's once you progress to that level of ability in surfing. As a surfer, the most major factor in my surfskating obsession is the fact that I can ride the board anytime, anyplace, anywhere. All I need is a relatively smooth patch of pavement.
whoaw! I just learned how to pump with my freeskates. this tutorial translates to the S motion pumping with freeskates. Now, i picked up things in this tutorial so i can improve my pumping. thanks, man! I will definitely have a surfskatebaord too.
Good video. You really do a good job as a resource. To help you with maybe some new ideas, it would be interesting to see some more advanced surfskaters / surfers / snowboarders get more indepth with the pumps/carves for a particular boardsport. Here is why I mention that. As a surfer who spent 15 years hardcore, 2 years street surfing a skateboard in the 70s, and 2 years riding my quiver of surfskates, the pumps/carves are quite ever-changing to match surfing on road. For example, all waves from various breaks have different power and all waves have power zones, flats, etc. So, sometimes a pump/carve is a quick snap with quick forward/back leans. Sometimes, that backfoot is operating unconventionally and so is how the body shifts to compensate for what is trying to be achieved. List goes on. I know you'd do a hell of a better job at why I'm trying to say.
Yes, that's exactly what I would love to do. The challenge is that I'm the only surfskater in my little town, so I have to take road trips to California to find other skaters. But I'm cooking up a plan to compensate for this....
Just ordered a Resin CX Surfskate and so excited to give it a try, surfed for 18 years and skateboarded most of my childhood. Any suggestions on how I should set my Trucks or just ride how it comes?
Nice! I definitely recommend that you upgrade the bushings and customize them for your weight. It makes a huge difference. surfskate.love/carver-cx-bushings-guide/ Have fun!
Hey, thanks so much for this video! My husband and I just got a surf skate and this was super helpful! I was curious, where did you get your shoes? They’re super cool and I’d love to get my husband something like that! Thanks!
I am so excited. Just ordered a Carver Black Tip surfskate, with 2 day delivery. Think I will prefer surf skating to skateboarding, especially now that I am older! It’s all your fault Steve, which is a good thing. Hopefully I will catch on. I have been binge watching your videos! 🛹
Correct me if I'm wrong but I've seen other videos where it seems like it's "knees down toes down" and "knees up heel up". Here it's the other way round. But maybe I'm getting the concept wrong 🤔
Are they going downhill? They are going way faster then me with my carver cx!😅 I have to put a lot of effort just to keep the board going forward on flat ground.
Sorry, I don't see the benefits of the lifting or of facjng the body in the direction of travel. You also seem to emphasize the backward push of the rear foot during a toe-side turn. What happened to the forward push of the rear foot on a heel-side turn? I can go like hell with my body sideways, with my arms rotating while bent and staying at the same height.
Yeah that works for just pumping on flat land. But if you're doing more pure surf style, you'll figure out that having your back arm behind you is bad for balance. You'll feel this more if/when you start riding transitions.

Dude in the red is killing it
He's my build and I'm just waiting for my protective gear arriving tomorrow to start my first ever Surfskate, he gives me hope!
Dude's killing indeed
Never skated (or surfed) in my life before, but I learned it in an hour thanks to this video. Honestly. Super helpful man!
Uphill is still tricky but I got it for the most part.
That's great to hear! Thanks for sharing!
@@SurfskateLove thanks mate I don’t know where the sport would be without you🙏

Surf skate doesn’t compete with transition you really want to surf skate skate transition bowl/pool skate
Sold my 2 longboards immediately after my first ride on a surfskate and switched. Soo fun
It's like when I got on my first donek knapton twin then aloha wide Snowboards. Changed everything.
It is much easier than regular skateboard and more fun

Was on the fence on whether to try this at my age (55) but this looks awesome. Just ordered a board.
Encouraging video.
That’s the best vedio in RUclips for beginners

El mejor video que he visto sobre este tema.
Such a great video; I think I'm hooked!! Now I just have to get my first surfskate...

great
But I want to heel up toe down?? Or maybe train both for ripping left and right.
I love this course!I want to know it
is adapt to a bushing based truck or spring based truck?
Either works!

Thanks for the lesson. What is that song at 11:47?
"All the Feels" by Sarah, the Illstrumentalist
Ok that’s it. Now I want one 🫶🏻
what does jackbolt mean? when you said if your front foot was too far forward. thanks
Did I say that? haha
If I did, I meant to say jackknife.
@@SurfskateLove ahh, maybe you said jack-knife! Think I got a board too short, doh!
Hi - Which trucks are you using in this vid? Looks like a CX but looks very loose
Yes, they are CX trucks.
How loose or tied to put the front/rear for easy long ride pumping ?
It depends on your truck and personal preference. Just experiment with it until you find what you like.
Born to surf, forced to skate 😔🤙
This area your surfskating is an inclined/slope ish ?
Yes, slightly.
The steps are quite similar to riding wave board. But, wave board is not so popular among skaters.
What happened to the kid in neon tank top, he disappear half way thru the video lol
haha I noticed the same 😂 did he give up?
It's mistake to keep bottle with water! I usually used bottle with beer! 😅😅😅😅
I got one and almost broke my back help? 😥
Yikes! Sorry to hear that! Are you padding up, including hip pads? ruclips.net/video/ebsXvS_0BlY/видео.html
