Do not use lubricant on NGK and Denso spark plugs! They
are coated to withstand corrosion and also "lubricate" the threads. Lubricating will overtight and can easily destroy the threads in the engine. NGK states that explicit in their manuals.
I found this info helpful. Didn't answer the questions I have. Trying to gain a better understanding of the greases, etc used in another video for brakes; Chris Fix. He talks about use Anti-seize, Silicone paste and thread-locker. Not sure how grease relates to these products.
WARNING: Never use Anti Seize or Silicone on Brakes... Yes, you heard me correctly. This was a so so video but don't feel bad if you are confused. These big companies jumped on this market because it is extremely profitable... but note that they have no idea what they are doing. The words and terms are wrong, they are sometimes 180 opposed to each other (silicone good vs silicone is bad), plus they keep changing their formulas "because they don't work and people complain".
Antiseize is about 70% low-temperature oil (400F), mixed with chalk (filler) and only about 3% to 5% of the actual metal. When the temps get up in the 700F+ range you evaporate that oil and create a sticky glue-like paste. Anti Seize is "NOT" a lubricant, it was created for threads on non-moving parts like nuts and bolts. For brake applications use Pastelub-2400 Boundary Lubricant, it is an extremely high-temperature synthetic lubricant with over 25% solids.
On all the moving parts and or rubber assemblies you need to use Ceramlub-2800, not Silicone paste. Silicone was "NEVER" designed for metal applications! The manufacturers themselves (GE & DOW) say that they are only used for preservation of rubber and plastic parts. What you need is, again, a boundary lubricant but one that has sub-micron solids for support of the moving metal parts. Ceramlub is a true synthetic, contains a high concentration of solids and uses extreme temp oils, so it won't break down with high heat and or damage rubber seals or boots on the calipers.
The best part is these two "real lubricants" cost less than the "wrong" products everyone is selling at the auto parts and or online. Don't spray the whole cassette on your bike. You'll just attract gunk and jam up the pulleys. Just drip on the chain and wipe of all excess.
You probably should have mentioned silicone grease used on brake pin slides.
Don't put anti seize on spark plugs threads like the one on this video. Those have nickle plated threads and and the manufacturer even says don't use anti seize right there on the packaging 🤦♂️.
Pretty much all cars over the last 20 years are this same way. Stop coating the plug threads!

CAN I USE white lithium grease on my elliptical machine, I disassembled it to move and now I want to assemble it,, but the grease has worn off of it where the screws and washers go...this is the area where the movement takes place?
Absolutely! But I’d recommend Silicone & Lithium grease, premixed. It comes in tubs and in aerosol cans; get the foaming kind if you can. Apply liberally, run the machine, then do clean up. With the right product you may not ever need to service it again. 🤙🏻

Sorry but that was pretty weak, especially coming from a group like you. No mention of classes of lubricants, application classes, or performance characteristics, and adding to spark plugs is a huge no no, it interferes with conductivity and defeats the anti-seize properties already on the threads. Do better !!!
Super Slick Slick Stuff is worlds better than every one of these options. Try it, you'll believe it! Available at Lowe's, and from Amazon.
And here is a great buffing compound to get all the scratches out of the hood. Sure, we could have easily just used a work bench, or a shop cart. Instead we chose the hood of this car 😊
oh my goodness... you see the guy spraying chain lube on the bicycle rear cogs? HE TOTALLY MISSED THE CHAIN! He was spraying inside the bicycle cogs an area that doesn't need any lubrication! Just a total waste of lube and time; also makes for horrible cleanup. What a total mess! If Advance Auto Parts doesn't know what a bicycle chain is then how can they work on cars?!!! Elsewhere in the video I recommend a rag or something to cut back on overspray. They left it exposed for you to see but cleanup on those things can be a @#$% as well.
You do know that the cogs the chain rides on needs to be lubricated too, right?
Also, using the red straw tip most canned lubes come with makes it come out as a cone instead of a thick stream.
And also, white lithium spray lubricants will thicken and set as a paste, and will spread onto cogs anyways.
And finally, when it comes to chains and cogs and pretty much any metal-on-metal connection on bikes and quads, stray lubricant isnt really gonna hurt anything. What, it may make it move better? Reduce friction and wear? Oh my!

Aron Faine Amongst bicycle mechanics, lubricating a cassette is generally accepted as overkill. The downside of over-lubricating any part of your bike is that it tends to pick up more grime from the road and surrounding environment, which encourages wear on parts that are made to fine tolerances. A white lithium grease would exacerbate this, as it stays tacky. It's generally recommended that you use a specific bike chain lubricant, of which there are many varieties, on the chain only. Through riding the bike the cogs and chainring will be protected enough.
I think Zé Forte's comment is contradictory - I would assume that Advance Auto Parts know plenty about cars, but maybe not some of the specifics of bicycle maintenance.
yladmac The grease Auto Parts used wasnt very thick at all. It was just general purpose lube used for chains and cogs of almost any type. Its not thick enough to absorb a lot of dirt and dust.
Spraying just the chain and letting it apply grease to the cogs as you ride does work, but the chain isnt the only thing you need to grease, and the amount of grease applied to the cogs isnt really as much as you want.
You cant apply too much grease. You can apply so much that most of it fals off, but what stays is completely fine. You dont want to waste grease, of course.
My point is, friction is BAD. So, grease up, and grease anything thats gonna be touching something else or moving.

I hear you. My point was that bikes aren't cars. To you I'm just some guy on the internet, so next time you're in the bike shop you could ask the mechanics what they use and why.
Just my opinion, but sorry, before this guy even spoke he'd lost all credibility... letting anything touch a car's paint is a sure sigh of incompetence & gross inconsideration... do so working in many shops, even first offence, and your tail won't bounce once on it's way out. Be advised: some car owners have been known to consider such acts as personal attacks, and will occasionally react with aggression.
Spraying chain at this angle, near the brake disk... Good luck riding without the brakes.

Wd40 is not a small engine starter thats more like carb cleaner and starting fluid but wd40 does not. Go ahead and try it and see for yourselves
Water Displacement Compound 40 is used to… displace the water in a water flooded motor. So… you’d drain the combustion chamber and crankcase of H2O, hose it with some WD40, zip it back up, add crank lube: then, hit her with the ether and as long as there’s fuel and spark, there ya go.
The thing that makes me laugh is he clearly says synthetic lubricants contain silicone. Yet people still say "I'm gonna make sure this never leaks again and put some RTV on it" and the whole time they will be smearing the shit all over a rubber gasket. RTV is a silicone based product.....the same silicone used in those lubricant. And then they wonder why they have a leak.
But yet I can take the same rubber gasket and really clean the surface and dr install it and not have a problem with leaks at all. It either use rubber or use RTV not both. RTV lubes the rubber and will squish it out of place and cause all sorts of leaks and usually worse than it was before.
So to sum it all up. RTV is used on application you are using cork or no gasket at all. Shellac or Indian Head (yes I still swear by that stuff) is used in gas application but Permatex no 1 and no 2 can both be used (one hardens and the other don't) Dry install on rubber and metal/plastic core gaskets. And finally use the RTV specified for the part your working on.....Don't go and smear the grey RTV on a water pump or the blue on an intake they are not rated for those applications.

Uh yes sir rubber gaskets and rtv sealant are used in conjunction with each other quite frequently. Typically they're used as an oil barrier in material intersections

Come on....and your name is Lucas? If anything, adding lubricant to threads causes people to over tighten. It's the stretching of the bolt, or compressing of materials that keeps things tight, all the lube in the world won't make something come apart.

Hi AutoJunkieMan! White Lithium Grease is optimal for metal on metal interaction. The best example I can think of is the sliding rail and wheel track for a garage door. Springs would require a lubricant oil such as Liquid Wrench Silicone (not WD40 which is a cleaner/penetrant) Find this product on our site by putting this product number in the search box - 7070063 - Thanks - KV

Nice intro but could be much more detailed. There are many other factors which affect what grease/oil/spray to use.
Also I think you'll find that most spark plugs made today already have an anti seize coating on them and greasing them is not recommended by the manufacturers. By doing so you might over torque/tighten the spark plug and cause damage. You can also affect the thermal properties of the plug by greasing them.

Spark plugs with a shiny chrome surface don’t need grease of any kind on the thread. It can be over tightened with the correct torque specs.

I have a project going on where I'm trying to get an old treadle sewing machine (like this one: goo.gl/8BvTiK ) back in working order. The old treadle mechanism has almost completely seized and I need some lube to get it going again. It doesn't have any ball bearings, just smooth, cone-shaped plugs that fit into cone-shaped holes, so I'm wondering what type of lubricant would be the best for this purpose.
WD-40 is good to remove adhesive labels and other sticky residue, it works OK as a lube for home use.
OK, here's my question- I have a tube of the Permatex white lithium grease. I'm wanting to keep some rubber seals on a project in good condition. Now on the back of the tube it says it contains "Petroleum hydrocarbons"..... is this a petroleum that will harm in any way a rubber seal? Thanks
How would the Blaster bike chain lube compare to the Blaster Industrial Strength Silicone Lube for an off road motorcycle chain. I've tried the silicone and have been very happy with it keeping the dirt off, but from a post on a different Blaster video, one commenter indicated that the rust protection might be an issue with the silicone lubricant. What do you think would be best?
I tried using the Green Grease in comparison testing, in clean, open caged ball bearings which I immersed 50% in clean water, then spun via chopstick in hand drill. I held the outer race in place, and had half a dozen in place at once, with a variety of greases, so could compare side to side. GG was mediocre, primarily due to a very odd behavior - it seemed repelled by the steel and kept congealing around the inner race/chopstick no matter how I initially spread it into the bearing, as if it were sucking the grease right out of the bearings. This happened even in dry tests, ie before water immersion. Other mostly bicycle- type greases worked fine, with Slick Honey being both most water resistant and good at staying on the balls. Parks grease absorbed water more than most; Viper lube and old Pedro's synthetic were almost as good as SH and only those three stayed free of water emulsification which I see as a problem inside bicycle hubs and closed bearings. GG seems a poor choice for anything that I could think of.
Needs to focus on each item so people can see them clearly. No one think you advertise for such a lot of products like that. Some lubes that needs mention like for brake glide pins. Others for household use everyone knows it!

some spark plugs you don't use anti seize. also, use the dry-lube on the tracks of your cars windows to keep them running smooth
Well my particular instance the spring is not stretching horizontally it's actually for a clutch on my Jeep which is being pulled sideways (why they designed it like that is beyond me) so in the middle of the stretch it's actually squeaking the metal against it's own coils. I found there already was lithium grease on it out of factory. I put Gunk brand on it, sprayed it inside of the spring and after the spring heated up and expanded the gunk coated it and it stopped squeaking..
They use to play these types of videos in the stores. But that was about 12 years ago.

Richard Cowtails Copper doesn't break down as easily over time. And it's generally graphite not aluminum that's used

+SIK LEEI've used antiseize in bicycle assembly work for decades; NOT as a lubricant but to keep parts from reacting/corroding/rusting, in threads and pressfit areas, or else blue loctite. Slick Honey is the best light synthetic grease I've found for bicycle bearings and such, as it is light enough to cling well inside bearings, stays very clean and repels water. None of the general Lubriplate or OTC greases seem to be very useful for bikes; either too thick, too thin, absorb water or dirt, or separate/dry out (oily portion leaks, leaving dry residue of thickeners with little lubricating value).
You can use any thick grease as an anti-sieze lube... just don't use it on bicycle seat tubes (because they rely on static friction to stay in place), I'm not sure if special anti-sieze lube could be use on a seat tube though?
