Let's be honest Taylor Swift doesn't need Awards, the Awards needs of her, Midnights is a masterpiece. She's the music industry, Queen Taylor deserves it so much ❤️
She deserves it. With or without the award. It’s pretty crazy how much hate she gets for being a genuine artist though. Especially someone who actually writes their own music and directed an entire film about what they went through. Every bit of it was impressive. You don’t have to like her or enjoy her music, but this woman is where she’s at today for a reason. And she’s not going anywhere.
"It’s pretty crazy how much hate she gets for being a genuine artist though" That's pure jealousy and it comes with the territory. Not to sound dismissive but I think she is used to it at this point. @@xtaylorswift13x74 SWIFTIES: I am attempting to start a movement of no tolerance for bullying in fan bases like Taylor’s. I have written a statement. If you agree with the contents of this comment, please repost, Tweet, make a TikTok, and share in any way that you can. I think it’s important that we band together as a fandom to hold our beloved Taylor accountable for some things that are of SERIOUS concern. She cannot control her fans but she can set the tone for her fan base and she can certainly use her platform in a responsible way. She has embraced feminism as part of her brand and has Tweeted about her commitment to be “loudly and ferociously anti-racist”, so let’s please hold her to that bar. We don’t want our girl walking around looking like a hypocrite, and even more importantly, we need the world (and that includes this fandom) to be a safe and loving place for all. I have been harassed and gaslighted for expressing the opinion that the pattern of death threats in her fandom is something Taylor should speak on. As her fandom, we love her, and part of loving her is holding her accountable. We know she has expressed a desire to use her voice for positive change, and we need to be there for her and support her by showing up even when that means we have feedback to give. The information I present in this comment is very well researched, but of course my integrity is only as good as the integrity of the sources I draw my information from. Still, I trust NPR, Time Magazine, The New York Times, Washington Post, The New Yorker, NBC, Newsweek, USA Today, and publications from Brown University and Northwestern University to be sources of integrity. My information also comes from observations of the things Taylor has and has not posted on Twitter and Instagram or made public statements about. If any of you have found information in your research that is contrary to any information I’ve presented in this comment, please bring that to my attention and direct me to the source you got your information from. I encourage you all to do your own research, and again, if you agree with this comment, repost, Tweet, and share however you can. Let’s show up for our queen! **************************** Here goes: There was a situation where Taylor took to Twitter to say that a Netflix show, Ginny and Georgia, had made a sexist joke at her expense (re her going through lots of boyfriends). It's fine that she wanted to stand up for herself in that way, but when Swifties began attacking the actress who delivered the line with racist slurs and LITERAL THREATS OF DEATH in response to Taylor’s tweet, it’s NOT OKAY that she didn’t say something. This was a big news headline. Taylor was “feminist” enough to defend her own name (in the name of her very self-serving brand of feminism) but disappeared when attacks turned ugly and racist. That's not real feminism. I can't be convinced she and her team didn't know about this. It was a big news story and it took place as a direct result of her tweet defending herself. This was simply a dangerously irresponsible use of her platform. Many Swifties will argue that that’s part of fame, but I feel like we need to stop normalizing this. And that STILL doesn’t mean she shouldn’t speak out. I believe she should do everything in her power to use her platform in a way that discourages hate. Not doing this is literally dangerous. Less importantly but still important, it also is not good optics. It’s hypocritical to claim feminism in defense of yourself but to throw your hands up and walk away when RACIALLY EXPLICIT DEATH THREATS are being hurled at another woman because you didn’t like a line in a TV show, even if she did find it triggering. That’s bullshit. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable to say that in light of the events that unfolded after Taylor’s tweet, her cries of “feminism” ring hollow. She has a long history of this type of self-serving and politically tone-deaf behavior, including when her team threatened a blogger with legal action (serving a cease-and-desist) for arguing that Taylor should denounce the white supremacist fans who insisted that she shared their beliefs and called her their Aryan Goddess. She literally could have sent that cease-and-desist to the Alt-Right groups making those claims in the first place. Although it would have been unsuccessful too because first amendment protected speech is a thing. (I’m flabbergasted bc her legal team HAS to know this.) My point is it’s disturbing that the person her team chose to threaten w legal action was the one saying she should denounce the LITERAL HATE GROUP rather than the people OF that hate group claiming she shared their beliefs. The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) even released a statement chastising her team for attempting to suppress first-amendment-protected speech with their convoluted rhetoric. I am aware that in 2018 she denounced Tr*mp and addressed white supremacy. But this doesn’t change the fact that she remained silent on it for a long time, including the year leading up to Tr*mp’s election and the first two years of his presidency. And it certainly does not change the fact that her team tried to silence a blogger for making a reasonable speculation about her silence. (Silence in the face of violence means support for the oppressor.) I feel she should address the problematic white feminism of her past and discuss how she intends to embrace intersectional feminism in the future. For those who do not know what white feminism and intersectional feminism are, I encourage you to do your research. One of its key tenets is that in order to be real, feminism needs to also encompass all of the aims of anti-racism and LGBTQIA+ activism. Taylor’s “feminism” in the Ginny and Georgia incident, and truthfully, in general, is not only not intersectional, but it can better be defined as an act of self interest. It was “Taylor Swift Feminism”, which is not feminism at all. This is all coming from a woman who as a 19 year old in 2011 went to see her on the Speak Now tour and cried tears of happiness when she came on stage. So it’s not like I don’t have my own attachment to her. But I’ve seen what I’ve seen and my principles are too strong to not take issue with these things. Wrong is wrong. We need to stop making defenses and living in the areas of gray, because racism and injustice proliferate in those gray areas. I still love her as a creative entity, but I must admit that I’m not here for the character she has shown in these incidents. There are real victims of these behaviors who are being subjected to death threats (and in some cases even racially explicit death threats. She is someone who has claimed feminism and anti-racism as part of her brand, and we need to hold her to the bar that she has set. There are other situations like the Ginny and Georgia incident. A music critic was threatened and her address was posted because she gave Folklore an 8/10 review. Fans did the same to Scooter Braun and his family. From what I can tell from my rather extensive research, Taylor did not speak about this. We cannot just wait until someone dies to hold her accountable. This is NOT OKAY.
